In the morning, I woke to breakfast in the room, and a note.

Dearest Mulan.

I had to run to the palace early. I'll come find you, at Lings. I'll be there as soon as I can.

I also peaked at the results, You look once you're away. Stay at Lings till I come, I already dropped off everything there, apart from an outfit, for you.

Love,

Shang

I smiled as I finished eating and got dressed, before leaving a note for Shi Yi, and leaving. I got Khan, seeing Shang already took his horse. I went to Lings, and put Khan in the stables. "Mulan?" I jumped half a foot hearing a male's voice. I spun and looked at who came in. "Ling… You startled me." I said, stroking Khan's mane. "Shang filled me in a little. I told him if you guys needed help, and a place to stay, you guys could stay here, as a temporary option." I smiled, as I said "Thank you." We went to the gardens, and sat on the bench. "What's going on in your head, Mulan? You can tell me anything." I said "Just life…" "I'm sorry, I know it's hard, but it will get better. You have me, Chien Po, Chien Ye, Shang, Shi Yi…" "You guys are my family. Actually… Since you brought Shi Yi up… The way you said her name… Sounds like your kind of smitten with her…" Ling blushed and said "Umm… Yeah I am… But I doubt she'd even notice me…"

"How would you feel if I set up kind of a meeting?" His eyes lit up. "But I do want to mention, and this stays between us, and her… But she was raped… and thinks she's damaged goods now." Ling said "Like you were… Unlike others, I'm going to work hard, to get her through this." I smiled and said "I'll get her to come over." "Shang did leave this…" He handed me the paper. "Read it." I opened it, taking a deep breath, and read the carefully inscribed name. I gasped. "What is it?" Ling asked. I said "My baby's daddy…" Ling said "Who is it?" I flipped over the paper to show him. "Oh my god… How do you feel?" I said "Relieved, to be honest… I really didn't want the baby to be either of the two potential fathers, to be the one… So I'm glad…" Ling smiled and said "Did you eat? Are you hungry? It's got to be nearing noon. Shang said that you get really sick when you don't eat…" I said "I'm actually getting hungry…" Ling and I headed into the house and said "Hi Ling, New friend?" His mother asked. "Sort of… You remember Captain Li? It's his wife." His mother said "Oh Of course! Welcome! Come sit, and eat as much as you want." While we ate, There was a knock on the door, causing his mom to go answer it. "Captain Li, please come in. We're just having lunch!" His voice said "Oh, thank you, I just actually ate." He walked over, and sat beside me. "Hey you." After lunch, Shang said "Want to go for a walk?" I nodded, and we went to the gardens. "So, I was trying to get us a house but I can't find the perfect one…"

"We'll have to take Ling up on his offer…" "I know… at least for a few days." I nodded. "It is close to the palace… So that's good…." I said "Yeah." "Did you read the paper?" I nodded, and threw my arms around his neck as he placed a kiss on my lips. "Good thing you are the baby daddy… It's a huge relief." "I know." He whispered. "I have to tell you something…" I looked at him and said "What's Up?" Shang said "Well, I got a promotion. You are now looking at and married to the new General of the imperial army." My eyes widened, and said "Oh My god Shang! I'm so proud of you!" Shang said "Well I'm not done, yet. There is one person I want as my captain, and maybe if she was wishing, she can name 2 more people as co captains." "Wait… Shang… What are you implying?" Shang said "Mulan, Will you do me the incredible honor of being my Captain?" My eyes widened. "Wait… WHAT?! Shang, I'm honored, and want to accept… But what about the pregnancy? And any following pregnancies?" Shang said "We'll figure it out. I promise. So what do you say?" I said "I accept." "Thank you." He said, placing a loving kiss on my head. "Who do you want to name as your co captains?" I said "Ling, and Chien Ye." Shang smiled, and said "Perfect." "I won't let you down Shang." I said letting our eyes meet. "You could never let me down. That's why I chose you specifically for this job." We went towards the house as Ling and Shi Yi came over. "Hey!" I grinned. "Is everything Okay?" Shi Yi came over, and hugged me, whispering. "Memories…" That was all she had to say. "It'll be okay." Ling and Shi Yi hit it off, much to my delight. We visited for a while, before we ate dinner, and Shang as well as I retired to our temporary room. "Hey, Umm did you notice that Shi Yi and Ling really like each other…?" I smiled and said "Oh Yeah."

"Are you playing Matchmaker?" I blushed. "Oh Come on, You know me better than that! Ling hinted to me, that he liked Shi Yi… And given something that happened to Shi Yi, I know Ling would be a perfect fit. I mean do you have any objections to Ling, being a brother-in-law?" Shang said "I actually wouldn't care. Ling is one of our best soldiers." I smiled and said "Then trust me." I changed and laid down on the bed. "Come here… Baby and mama need daddy cuddles…" Shang changed quickly and curled up beside me, wrapping his arms around me. "Ohhh I am all too happy to oblige to my wife's and child's needs." He said holding me close, my head resting on his chest. "Something's still not right…" I said, with a smirk, as my hands slid under his shirt, which caused Shang to smirk, a slid the shirt right off. "If you wanted the shirt off, all you had to do was ask." he put his shirt on the ground before wrapping his arms around my body.

I blushed, as I snuggled back in to his arms. "But it's much easier to do this way!" He chuckled and said "I'm not complaining here." I grinned resting my head on his chest. "Sleep. I'll keep you two safe." I nodded against his chest, closing my eyes, and falling asleep.

In the morning, I woke up to the empty bed. "Shang?" "Right here." He said coming over in a pair of traveling pants and a brown shirt. "Are you feeling Okay?" I sat up, placing a hand on my head, when I did. "Yeah… I'm Okay…" I said, as Shang knelt down in front of me. "You're not… Tell me the truth… What are you feeling exactly…?" I said "Nauseous… Lightheaded… Dizzy…" Shang said "I don't like you feeling lightheaded and dizzy…"

"I'm sure it'll be Okay… Probably just aftermath, of the getting hit." Shang said "Come on. Get dressed babe… I caught one of his majesties messengers, coming for a visit… I'll go see what's wrong…" Shang left, while I changed, before going out to them. "Hey is everything alright?" I said, as Shang looked to me. "Yeah, everything is just fine love, his majesty just wanted to see me, and my captain. Probably to get a good schedule." I said "We'll leave at once…" The messenger nodded and left. "Mulan… Are you sure you feel up to it? You don't look like you feel well…" I bit my lip, as Shang said "I'm sure his majesty, would understand if you were sick…" I said "Well… I mean… I don't know…" Shang said "Mulan, my love. You've been so sick lately… probably, from a combination of the stress of all the events, that happened and the morning sickness…" I looked at him, but didn't say anything. "... All of it, is understandable… At least to me, it is… I need to take care of you, Yes first priority, is your health and our child, as well as the Emperor's safety. I can manage everything, but You are my first priority right now." I said "We should go… We don't want to be late…" "Are you sure? And I never thought you'd be the one saying that…" I said "Yes I am, and I know right?" He chuckled, and kissed my head. "Come on. Let's go… BUT if you feel sick or anything…" I smiled and said "I'll let you know." He grinned, as we walked over to the palace.

Once we went in, and met the Emperor, we talked about scheduling for our shifts, and why Shang chose me, which resulted in us exposing my secret. Till then only a few people knew. When we told of what we had done to Chi Fu, we lied and said that Chi Fu had taken advantage of my brother, which caused said brother to take his own life. The emperor, said "Well, Fa Mulan, You are an exceptional young lady, and a very brave one, too. I trust the general's judgement, and I'm very proud to have such a great captain, on our team." I smiled and said "Thank you, your majesty. I promise I will not let you down, or the country." Shang smiled proudly to me.

Our schedule got made, so Shang and I were on the same schedule, before we stepped out to head out. "Hey, are you Okay?" I looked up at him, as his arms wrapped around my shoulders as my head rested on his chest. "Yeah… But do you think it's okay if we head home, and I lay down? I'm not feeling well at all, and just want to lay down…" Shang said "Of course I don't mind if we head back home, and you laying down. Once you are settled, I'll go talk to the doctor to get some things to try and help you." I smiled gratefully, as we walked over to our room on Ling's land. "Hey guys! Everything alright?" Ling said coming over to us. Shang said "Yeah, we were talking to his majesty about getting a schedule for a position on the guard." Ling said "Ahh. Mulan, you don't look well…" "I know. I look like hell." Both the guys, laughed, as Shang said "That's why she's going to lie down, while I go to the docs, and get some things to help, her feel better." Ling said "I can check on her too, to help." I smiled, as Shang said "I'd appreciate it." I went to the bedroom and laid down, on the bed. "Check on her in an hour, take her some lunch… make sure she eats it if I'm not back." Shang whispered to Ling, before kissing my head. "I'll be back babe." He whispered. Ling said "Absolutely." Shang left as I closed my eyes.

"Hey Mulan… Wake up…" Ling's voice said, as he gently touched my shoulder. "No…" Ling sighed looking at me, as I rolled over. "I'm sorry, but Shang did say to wake you and tell you to eat lunch…" I sat up a little, putting a hand to my head. "Whoa…" I groaned. "Are you Okay?" Ling asked, as he moved putting things behind my back. "Yeah…" I started eating, slowly. Shang came in and said "Hey, I'm back…" I looked up, and said "Hey…" Ling said "Can I talk to you a moment…" Shang frowned, seeing Ling's concerned expression. "Of Course." They stepped out, but I saw Shang in eye shot. "I'm concerned about her, when I woke her, she wasn't very… what's the word… umm… cooperative, at least not right away… But when she did sit up… She acted like she got dizzy or something…" I heard Ling say. Shang said "Still? Okay… I'm going to either go get the medic or send you… The medic said if it continues to happen, he wants to examine her…" Ling said "I'll go. You stay with her. She might be more cooperative with you versus me." Shang glanced at me with a smile, before saying "I think you are right… Thanks, Ling." Shang came in, and sat beside me, before he ate some lunch too.

"So what did the medic say?" I asked. Shang said "Well he didn't like the fact you were dizzy and lightheaded, and frankly I don't either. But said it could just be from the head trauma, so he wasn't necessarily concerned, but did want to examine you if it happened again. Which according to Ling something happened when you sat up…" I took a deep breath, and said "Yeah… Just the same thing that happened this morning… Lightheaded, dizzy… I just… I know something's not right… But I just don't know…" I looked up at him as he said "Then why did you tell Ling, you were fine?" "How…" I started. "I know you well enough Mulan… I know you'll only show me your insecurities, and pain…" I sighed, and said "I thought if I could just ignore it so to speak, I'd be okay, That it'd just go away… Goes right back to my childhood…" Shang said "I know, but you have a whole family now who love you." "What family do you speak of, besides you and Shi Yi?" I said, softly. "You have Ling, Chien Po, Chin Ye. They might not be blood, but in my opinion, blood doesn't make a family, Love does. We have our own little family, one that was forged on the battlefield." "He's right, Mulan." Ling said as he entered. "The Medic said that he'll be here, in a couple of hours… He's swamped, he figured if I came to get him, you didn't feel comfortable moving her."

"Thank you, Ling." We said together. "How you feeling?" I just laid my head on Shang's shoulder shaking it. When the medic came, he examined me before gesturing for Shang and himself to step out. That didn't seem good… "Is there any reason to expect any bleeding? From anywhere?" Shang said "If she had been bleeding, she didn't say anything to me… Why?" The medic said "The only reason I could justify her feeling dizzy… is due to blood loss… The injury wouldn't still be causing it…" I looked at my arms, noticing the injury was bleeding. "SHANG!" The sound of my scream sent Shang running to me. "What's wrong?" The medic joined, and said "Her war wound…" They unwrapped the bandages and the reaction was instant. "I'll fix it up, for you guys, but I want her on light activity for at least a month." The medic said, as Shang helped move me, so the medic could work. "I'm sorry, but can you please stay still? It's hard for me to get your wound fixed…" Shang immediately held me tighter, chanting something soothing. "Thank you." The medic quickly finished, and said "I also want to see her weekly to monitor the healing process, on both arms… Till then Mulan, you need to ask for help when you need to do anything. Your wound could reopen once more, and the next time, baby might not survive." I looked up at Shang, who said "I'll make sure she takes it easy. Thank you." After the medic left, I said "It's my fault… My stubbornness and stupid stupid pride." Shang frowned "No, Mulan, what would make you think that?" "I was being stubborn… I knew my arm was hurting more than it normally does… I didn't ask for help… I didn't want to admit it… Didn't want to feel like I'm burdening you… I… risked our child's life more than once!" My eyes shot to Shang's, causing him to wipe my tears. "Shang, I'm so sorry!" He moved the hair from my face, as he said "No. Mulan, this isn't your fault. Okay? It's not. It's mine. I knew something was going on, I should've insisted on me helping you." He kissed my head. "But now, you don't have a choice, because I WILL be helping you. I'm going to be a better husband to you, and a better father to our baby."

"I also didn't tell you under whose family I enlisted as…" I looked at him. "What are you talking about Shang?" "After the conscription notices were delivered, and I got word how you reacted… It completely shattered me. I could see it every time I closed my eyes. I asked my father if there was anything I could do to prevent your father going. My father told me, that the only way it'd be possible, would be enlisting as the Fa family son. I did it without hesitation. I never meant for you to come join the army in your father's place. I wrote him a letter telling him of my decision…He didn't get it till morning… After you already had left…" Shang looked at me, tears in his eyes. "I should've gone, to your home, I should've married you that night… told you my plan… I could've prevented all the pain and suffering…" I said "Shang…" He turned away quickly wiping the tears. "I already knew you enlisted as my family's name… I read the note, but left it for my father to find." Shang looked shocked to me. "You still came already knowing I took your father's place?" I nodded, moving to sit beside him. "I did. I needed to… escape… That day, I brought dishonor to my family…"

Shang raised an eyebrow. "Let me explain… Your mom and mine forced me to go through the matchmaker, despite us already being engaged…" "My mother told me that… What happened?" I said "I was doing fine, till we got there… The matchmaker called my name… I spoke without thinking. Got the wife duties wrong, despite having wrote cheats on my arm… she got the ink on her face, like a goatee…" I gestured the shape of it on my face. "I poured the tea on the table, before I poured it in the cup, which is when my grandmothers lucky cricket, decided to make his self known… I tried to get the cup back, spilled the tea on her, then she fell on hot coals, after trying to Crickee out of her dress… Her ass caught fire… and I dumped all the tea on her to put out the fire… Mom wanted to kill me… Barely spoke to me…" "That explains why my mom said to break off the engagement…" I sighed. "And how do you feel now?" I asked, as our eyes met.
