It's been over an hour since Maura went to Jack's to talk. Jane was on her couch, watching a game and Jo Friday laying next to her. "I wonder what's taking Maura so long," Jane got up from the couch to go grab her phone she dialed Maura's number. She waited for her to pick up. It was on the third ring. "Please tell me you're still coming over."
"Jane I-I can't," Maura sniffled and Jane knew that she had been crying.
"I guess he didn't take the break up well," Jane sat back down on the couch, running her fingers through her hair.
"The look on his face when I told him everything. I really broke his heart. He said he should have known something was going on, that you are more than just my best friend."
"Sweetie I'm so sorry. If you don't want to come over, I'll just come to you."
"Jane, I don't think that's a good idea."
"You shouldn't be alone right now Maura you're hurting and I want to be there for you."
"You're just not going to give up, are you?" Maura asked and Jane could just tell in Maura's voice that she was smiling a little as she spoke.
"I'm your best friend Maur. Break ups are hard and well since I'm the reason it happened... I'll be there soon."
"If you insist. I'll see you soon. Bye."
Jane sighed, hanging up the phone. "Well Jo seems like I'll be gone this evening.
As Jane got ready to go to Maura's, Maura was sitting in her living room, curled underneath a blanket. She heard a noise and looked behind her, seeing Angela come inside. "Oh Maura, I didn't know you were going to be home. Thought you were spending the evening at Jack's place."
"There was a change of plans."
Angela walked over to the couch and sat down next to her, noticing the look of sadness on the doctor's face. "What happened?"
"Him and I broke up."
"Oh sweetie I'm so sorry, you were so happy with him. May I ask why did it happen?"
"I prefer not to talk about it, if you don't mind," Maura looked up at the older woman, before leaning against her. "Why do break ups have to be so hard Angela?"
"I don't know, sometimes it can be for the best, you just have to look on the positive side. Whatever that may be."
"Well I have my health, a great friendship with Jane and my career definitely keeps me going."
"See, there you go. When Frank left me I could only think of one positive thing and that was getting my three children out of it. Other than that I was doubting myself, doubting why I wasn't good enough for him. Why would he leave me after so many years together."
Maura glanced up and smiled, "You're an amazing mother Angela. And you've done so much for your children, it's quite endearing. Not to mention that I'm very grateful that I've been letting you stay in the guest house. You're great company you know."
"Thanks, well I'm glad you think my company is nice. It's nice knowing someone does."
"Jane loves you Angela. I mean she must be okay because she's here mostly every morning."
"Jane has always been a complex person, you know she was much worse before you came into her life. She's very lucky to have you as a best friend, and she's always here for you. I wish I had a friendship like one you and Jane have."
"You sure you want a friendship like mine and Jane's?" Maura raised a brow and Angela nodded.
"Of course, you both always look out for each other, she's so protective of you. It must be nice."
"Sometimes it could be a little overwhelming. And I mean you seem to have a great friendship with Korsak, you guys seem to get along pretty well."
"We seemed much closer before Kiki came along. I sense things, and I know she's more than a life coach to him. But at least he's happy," Angela shifted slightly. Maura looked at Angela with an amused smirk.
"Angela, you know I don't like to assume, but sounds to me like you're jealous."
"Me, jealous? Why would I be jealous?" she got up from the couch. "I'm going to make some tea, do you want some?"
Maura couldn't help but laugh, "Um, none for me thanks."
Maura was glad for her talk with Angela, it definitely got her mind off of Jack and the pain she was feeling.
She was in her thoughts when she heard the front door open and heard Angela greet her daughter. "Good evening Jane, I didn't expect to see you."
"My best friend is going through a break-up, of course I'm here. Nice seeing you Ma," Jane kissed her cheek, standing next to her. "So, how's she doing?"
"We had a nice talk and she's trying to think about positive things instead of being upset about Jack. I think she'll be fine especially since you're here now," Angela patted Jane's back. "I'll just finish making my tea and let you girls have some alone time."
"Thanks Ma. I was kind of worried about her."
"I know sweetie," Angela smiled and Jane went to go sit down next to Maura on the couch.
"Hey," Jane greeted and Maura looked at her with a soft smile.
"Hi. Thanks for coming over, you're such a good friend Jane."
"I know. So Ma was saying you are doing okay?"
"Yeah, we had a nice talk, she's good at the comforting, I know where you get it from." Maura glanced behind her seeing Angela still there. "I always wanted a mother like her."
"Well you can have her if you'd like, I don't mind sharing... certain things anyways," she rested her hand on Maura's knee. They sat in comfortable silence for a moment when Angela approached them with a mug handing it to Maura.
"I know you said you didn't want tea, but I thought it would be good for you, so I made you a cup as well. You two enjoy your evening, and remember Maura, everything will be okay in the end."
"Thanks Angela and may I offer you some advice?"
"Of course."
"The thing we talked about, it's better if you discuss it with him instead of holding back, trust me I learned that recently. Just think about it," Maura smiled and Angela just stared at her for a moment.
"You two enjoy your evening," she gave a nod before exiting to the guest house.
"What was that about?" Jane asked once her mother left.
"Just offering your mother some advice. I think she has a thing for Sargeant Korsak."
Jane looked at Maura in surprise, "Wait, she what? First Cavanaugh and now Korsak. She is aware that Vince has Kiki now, at least that's what he told me."
Maura shrugged, bringing the tea to her lips to take a sip. "I still think she should discuss it with him about her feelings no matter how confusing they may be."
"Sort of like us."
Maura nodded going to put the mug of tea on the table. "Yeah about that Jane... about us..."
"Yeah?" Jane didn't like the serious tone in her voice, the look of sadness.
"I really hurt Jack... I feel guilty about it, about what I did to him, he was such a great guy and I feel his pain. If you seen the look on his face when I told him about what we did, Jane he was so devastated. I never wanted to put him through this kind of pain," Maura spoke as tears fell down her cheeks. "I know the whole point of me going to talk to him was for us, but... Jane I can't... we can't. Not right now."
Jane wrapped her arm around Maura's shoulders. "Hey, it's okay. It's going to be okay. We're still trying to figure things out. You can cope with your feelings and we can still be best friends and once our heads are cleared then we can... get together or what have you. I just, I want you to be okay."
"You're so understanding Jane, I thought you'd be mad about me wanting to put us on hold."
"What kind of person would I be if I didn't understand? I don't think I'd be a very good friend," Jane kissed the top of Maura's head. "Once you get through this then maybe we will both have our feelings in order. Can I ask you one thing though?"
Maura nodded at Jane, "You can ask me anything."
"I have this want, while we put us on hold, I don't know how long it will be until we get there. But I'd um... I'd really like to kiss you right now and then I won't again until we're both ready," she rubbed at her palms.
"Jane that's not really a question..." Maura laughed lightly and Jane rolled her eyes.
"You're such a jerk. So is it okay if I kiss you?"
"I think you can ask better than that."
"You're not going to make this easy, are you?" Jane shifted slightly to place her hand on Maura's cheek, looking deep into her eyes. "You're such a beautiful human being, when I look into your eyes... I swear I could stare into them all day. Maura Isles, may I kiss those soft, warm lips of yours?"
Maura felt her heart skip a beat, she nodded, leaning towards Jane. She stopped and let Jane finish leaning forward to press their lips together. Jane's hand still cupping Maura's cheek as the kiss deepened, their mouths opened slightly as they brushed their tongues together. Both girls moaning, Maura placed her hand on Jane's thigh, sliding it upwards. Jane felt her whole body heat up at Maura's touch.
Jane groaned as Maura's lips left hers and started planting kisses along her neck. "Maura..." she shivered as Maura's tongue slowly ran up her neck before she pulled back with a smile. "You're such a tease."
Maura bit her bottom lip, "Maybe we can put this on hold..."
"I guess we got a little carried away," Jane ran her fingers through her hair.
"That's not what I meant. I want us to have tonight before we settle it down and figure things out. Before we put us on hold. I'd really like to show you how much I appreciate our friendship," Maura slipped off the couch, and extended her arm. "If you'd like."
Jane took Maura's hand while grinning, probably like an idiot. "Oh I'd like very much so Dr. Isles," she spoke as Maura pulled her off of the couch.
"Well what are we waiting for? And only for tonight."
Jane nodded, her smile never faltering, "Sure, for tonight." Jane held onto Maura's hand as they walked upstairs and into Maura's bedroom, lips immediately attached as they walked backwards until they fell down on the bed Jane on top. "I'll make this a night you'll never forget."
We got some sweet Rizzles and a nice conversation with Maura and Angela. There's still bumps in the road ahead but nothing our girls can't handle in the end. Thanks for reading, hope you're enjoying it.
