Rereading this story I'm uncertain if I like what I wrote after the first two chapters, but some of you guys seem to be enjoying it so I'll make it work somehow. Enjoy this next chapter if you can. Reviews will give me hope for this story. Any words of helpful criticism is welcome. This chapter focuses on Jane's day and the next one focuses on Maura's.
When you love someone you'll do whatever it takes to make it work.
Those words Jack spoke hours ago remained stuck in Jane's head. She couldn't stand the guy but what he said did make sense, she'd do absolutely anything she could to make Maura happy, to make sure that she'd be okay in the end. She knew she loved Maura, but she wasn't sure how much and she wasn't even positive if she was in love with her.
Thinking of everything she came to realize that Maura was very conflicted, she seemed ready for everything, but pulled back all the same. Maura said how much she liked Jack and how bad she feels for hurting him, Jane didn't want to think of what if Maura decided to take him back once he came to talk to her, then where would that leave her. Was having feelings for Maura even worth it at this point? It was definitely causing a lot of stress and agony.
Jane jumped up, startled as someone's hand rested on her shoulder. "Fucking shit!" She turned to see Korsak stepping back from her slightly, red in the face.
"Calm the hell down."
"Well don't creep up on me like that when I'm concentrating."
"Concentrating on what? Your computer's screen saver turned on. I've been trying to get your attention for about ten minutes."
Jane sighed, "I'm sorry. I just have a lot on my mind is all."
"Well I'd say you do. Kiki wants to go out to dinner, with you and me."
"Why?"
"She wants to meet you, that's not a crime is it?"
"But why me? Why would she want to meet me?" She paused, Korsak's eyes always lit up when he talked about Kiki. "Are you and her finally a 'we'?"
Korsak shrugged, "We might be or we might not, just say you'll come and maybe you'll just happen to figure it out with your superb observation skills."
"God, can you be anymore of a suck up? Fine I'll go, happy?"
The older man smirked, "That wasn't so hard was it? Now get back to work Rizzoli you don't get paid to sit around and do nothing."
"Yes of course Sargeant," Jane saluted and focused back on work.
Jane met up with Korsak at the Dirty Robber after work, she slid into the booth across from him, a bottle of Blue Moon in her hand. "So when does the lovely Kiki arrive?"
"She should be here soon, patience."
"I hope she's not the type who shows up late, you need a woman who's nice and prompt."
"Didn't know you were so concerned about the woman I should try to date."
Jane laughed, "A-ha so you admit you're dating her or at least wanting to."
Korsak sighed, "Yeah well... I guess you know. Me and my damn mouth of mine. I wanted you two to meet because I want you to like her before we consider being more than friends. Kiki agreed that it's okay if I want your approval."
"Okay but why do you need my approval, you're a grown ass man who can do what you please."
He chuckled, "I guess you're right, I just wanted to let you get to know her, maybe help me not be so damn nervous around her all the time." Korsak took a sip of his beer and nodded towards the door. "Oh, here she comes now." He straightened his tie, standing up. "How do I look?"
"You look like a nervous man child," Jane shook her head in amusement.
"Kiki, you look incredible," Korsak complimented the woman and kissed her cheek.
"Good evening Vincent," she smiled warmly at the man. She turned to look at Jane. "You must be Jane Rizzoli, pleasure to finally meet you. Vincent talks about you all the time."
Jane stood up and shook Kiki's hand, "Same goes for you. Vincent sure loves talking about you, all in good ways of course."
"I must admit when I met Vincent and he referred to you as an ex partner I thought he meant in a lover kind of way. I felt embarrassed when he told me that meant you guys used to be partners at work."
"Kiki I thought we weren't going to mention that," Korsak sighed before they all sat down at the table.
"You know my policy about being open to people about things. Honesty is the best policy in my book," Kiki smiled and Korsak nodded.
"She's right you know Jane."
"What, I am honest," Jane shrugged. "So, what are your intentions with Korsak?"
Kiki smiled, "Well I intend to spend a lot of time with him, take care of him like I'm sure he'll take care of me," she gave Korsak a nudge. "Equality in a relationship is very important. I want to continue making him happy, and unlike others before me I plan to stick around."
Jane looked between the two and smiled, "Well I'm glad someone likes Korsak enough to want to stick around him. He really likes you and you seem perfectly sane and meant for each other. You have my approval, don't let this one get away Korsak, okay?"
Korsak grinned, "I'll try my damndest, so I guess that's settled then."
Kiki nodded in agreement, "Yes I guess it is."
"Well I think my job here is done," Jane finished her beer. "Maybe I should let you two enjoy your evening alone."
"Jane, don't be silly, you can stay," Korsak insisted.
"Hey, I don't like playing the third wheel. And I should really try to get some rest, I was a bit distracted at work today."
"Are you and the Doc fighting again? You seemed really odd coming up from autopsy today," Korsak asked in concern.
"Maura Isles, right?" Kiki asked and Korsak nodded. "Jane, I'm sure whatever the issue is you and Maura can work it out. Vincent was telling me how close you both are, and if you and your partner are at odds the best thing you can do is communicate..."
Jane froze listening to Kiki's words, "What do you mean by my partner?"
Kiki frowned, "Oh I said too much now, didn't I?"
"Korsak, what have you been telling Kiki about Maura and me?"
"I uh... it's nothing. I'm sorry I just... I told Kiki about how I didn't know how to comfort you when Maura was dating Jack and you just seemed completely not yourself. And she gathered that you had... you know, feelings for the Doc, unrequited ones that's why you've been acting odd lately. I didn't believe it until the other day, but you and Maura always had this certain relationship that was always closer than any of my marriages. I thought maybe she was right. I'm sorry for overstepping any boundaries or making assumptions, but you got to admit it makes sense."
Jane shook her head, getting up from the table, "Well you're both wrong, there's nothing between Maura and I and there never will be. You two enjoy your evening," she gave them a nod before leaving the bar. Jane got into her car and sighed. "What the hell am I going to do..."
