To answer a quick question I've received, there will not be a pairing in this story involving Raiden. He is a married man and there will be no real reason for him to be paired with someone and betray Rose like that. I am fully aware of the situation with Rose and Campbell in MGS 4, but that is an entirely different situation.

Chapter 3 Divide and Clash

(YorHa Base)

"So close." That's the recurring thought that's been repeating in Commander White's mind for the past few hours.

The human Raiden was practically in YorHa's grasp and they were very close to ensuring his safety. Yet in a split second, not only did Raiden evaded them, but now YorHa doesn't have the proper means to predict his actions. The fact that he's an enhanced human gives the commander some peace of mind that he can handle himself in the short-term. The long-run however, is an entirely different matter. With the machines making new advancements every moment and that they still prove to give YorHa problems. This is enough for the Commander to be cautious of Raiden's chances of survival.

Making the situation more urgent is that it is still not known of where Raiden came from. If there is a chance that this could lead to the discovery of more humans. Then his retrieval and the discovery of how he arrived is something that must be solved. If this does lead YorHa to more humans, it will give the majority the androids a renewed sense of purpose. A sense of purpose that needs to be reinvigorated after fighting the machines for so long. Ending the war against the machines is very much possible. But the questions of what will happen after the war does come up from time to time. Which makes the fear of the other androids finding out the secret regarding the Council of Humanity a very real possibility. It is clear to the Commander that something has to be done regarding Raiden. Fortunately, an option has been presented to the Commander that will give YorHa a chance to deal with Raiden. As Commander White was thinking about the option, 2B entered the command room.

"2B, do you know if 9S has made any progress with analyzing the machine known as Bladewolf? With Raiden missing and taking your report into consideration. That machine is our best and only lead regarding Raiden." Commander White told 2B

"Nothing yet Commander, I'm still waiting for 9S to be finished with the analysis of that machine." 2B answered

"I see, well until 9S is finished with his analysis you're going to have to go solo on your missions for a while. If this Wolf machine can lead us to Raiden and to more humans. Then this is something we can't ignore. Besides, the Bunker has picked up on some strange activity from the abandoned factory. It's clear that the machines are behind it. So you need to go and find out what they're specifically up to." Commander White told 2B

"Yes ma'am, is there anything you can tell me about the strange activity?" 2B asked

"The only thing I know for certain is that a strange signal has been detected and the machines have increased their activities as a result. You need to go and investigate the source of the signal." Commander White told 2B

"Understood Commander." 2B said before she left

(The City Ruins)

It has been several hours since Raiden fought against the YorHa androids at the Resistance Camp and escaped from the area. While Raiden was fighting against the androids, a mysterious android appeared and helped Raiden deal with the pursuing androids. Currently, the two have been traveling in an awkward silence and it is clear that both Raiden and A2 are cautious of each other.

"Since there are no machines or androids around, then maybe you can tell me what the hell is going on." Raiden told A2 in a demanding tone before she turned to face him

"Don't get the wrong idea, I only helped you because I'm not on good terms with YorHa. Since it was clear to me that you didn't want to go along with whatever shit they wanted. It made sense to help you out. But if you think that means we're going to be best buddy, then get those thoughts out of your head." A2 stated to Raiden

"Not one for niceties huh? Alright, then tell me what you know about the machines. Since I'm going to be fighting the machines for a while. I need to know what I'm up against." Raiden told A2

"Since I'm in a good mood and your not asking for much. I'll answer some of your questions, what do you know about the machines so far?" A2 asked

"The Commander told me that the machines are alien life-forms and YorHa has been at war with them ever since they took over the earth. The point of the war is to reclaim earth for the humans." Raiden briefly explained

"That's the basic gist of it, the machines have been a problem for YorHa for years. As you've learned by now, they come in a large variety of shapes and sizes. They're also numerous with some of them being amazingly hard to kill." A2 briefly answered

"Then if you're not part of YorHa, what are you doing with your time? Surely you must have found some kind of purpose." Raiden asked A2

"My purpose is to hunt down and beat the hell out of every damn machine I can find. Seeing as though you were trying to get away from YorHa, I figured that helping you get way from them wouldn't mean much to me." A2 told Raiden

"Then would you mind telling me why is it that your not on good terms with YorHa? I thought that all of you androids were supposed to be working together because of the machines?" Raiden asked

"That is quite frankly none of your damn business Raiden. I just want to make sure that every machine I see is nothing more than scrap metal." A2 stated to Raiden

"Wow, talk about being direct. Well I can't just go around killing machines all day. I still need to find out how I got here." Raiden told A2

"Well I don't recommend going back to the City Ruins. I've heard that it's where YorHa first discovered you and I have a feeling that They're thoroughly going over the Ruins hoping to find you. You can hold your own just fine, but it won't do you any favors if you underestimate the YorHa androids. There is one other place you can go to where you can investigate. But I can't promise that you'll find something, if anything it'll be just as dangerous." A2 told Raiden in a cautious tone

"Seeing as though I don't have any ideas of my own. I'll take what I can get." Raiden told A2

"Alright, don't say I didn't warn you. There is a factory not too far from here. It's abandoned and the Machines have used it for their own purposes. So if you want to learn more about the machines. The Abandoned Factory is a good place to investigate. But remember this Raiden, don't expect me to save your ass the next time you're in trouble. You should know by now that the YorHa androids will do anything to protect the humans. Since I'm not a part of YorHa, I can just let you do whatever you please." A2 explained to Raiden

"So I'm on my own and shouldn't expect your help if I get into any trouble. Honestly, what else is new with my life. Can you at least point me to the direction of this Factory? Since I have no map of any kind, I don't want to risk getting lost and end up getting ambushed by the machines or YorHa." Raiden briefly explained to A2 causing her to point at large building in the distance

"That large building that you can get to after crossing the bridge. That is the factory, I doubt you'll learn what you're looking for. But if you want to learn about the machines, then that's a good place to go too." A2 told Raiden before she went her own way

"Alright, guess I'm going to the factory now." Raiden said before he went in the direction A2 pointed at

9S spent several hours trying to fix Bladewolf's mind. The good news is that its mind is stable enough for it to be restored. The bad news is that because Bladewolf's AI mind has a framework that is very obsolete. This is a problem because it will make it harder for 9S to restore its mind without damaging its memories. Especially since 9S hasn't done something like this before. Though what prevents 9S from losing faith in his abilities. Is that if he succeeds in this. Then this can lead YorHa to more humans that needs to be discovered before the machines find them.

9S saw various parts of corrupted data and proceeded to destroy it within Wolf's mind. As the corrupted data was destroyed, various parts of Wolf's mind started to steadily become more stable. As more of Wolf's mind becomes stable, 9S noticed a small source of light and proceeded to go towards it. Once 9S reached it, he heard several voices.

"Nanomachines son." A gruff male voice said while 9S was within Bladewolf's mind

"Raiden has come to my aid, I have learned from him." Another voice said which has gotten more of 9S's attention

"That voice, it might be a memory." 9S thought before he went into the light and the scenery changed. Once it changes, 9S found himself standing besides Bladewolf and he was looking down on two individuals. One of the individuals is Raiden and he is facing another individual who is noticeably more muscular than Raiden.

"This isn't my sword." Raiden said as he wielded his sword against the muscular man

"Come on." The muscular man confidently said to Raiden

"Let's dance." Raiden said before he fought against the muscular man

As 9S was watching the two fight each other. He was amazed at the capabilities of both Raiden and the muscular man. Raiden is able to hold his own amazingly well against the muscular man. While the larger man displayed incredible power and proved to be a dangerous threat to Raiden. 9S observed the intense fight between the two and was silently amazed at the display of power that can compare to the YorHa androids. Though to the best of his knowledge. Most humans aren't capable of feats like this. Which made 9S realize that there is more to the humans than he knows. He also made another realization that prioritizes Bladewolf's mind.

"This fight is a memory." 9S thought as he continued to watch the fight while prepared to learn more

(The City Ruins)

After Raiden parted ways with A2, he started to make his way to the Factory. He didn't know what to expect when he makes it to the Factory aside from more machines. In fact, Raiden knows that he's in an unknown situation and realistically speaking. He should have stuck with YorHa so that he could at least have some allies. Though the fact that they would have him imprisoned in an ice capsule. Didn't sit right with him, since it would not only make him very vulnerable. It would also bring back a lot of bad memories of the patriots. Especially since he doesn't know anything about YorHa and for all he knows. They could be the successors to the AI of the patriots.

"How much longer will it take for me to get to this Factory? I should have asked for a map or something when I had a chance." Raiden thought to himself before he saw a couple of machines standing around. Before he could do anything, the machines launched several energy blasts that quickly surrounded the area at Raiden.

Reacting quickly, Raiden proceeded to dodge the energy blasts and effortlessly cut down the machines that tried to hit him with the energy blast. Once the machines were cut down, another machine tried to attack him. Seeing the machine coming, Raiden deflected the machine's attack and cut it down easily. Once Raiden dealt with the machines, he noticed several machines coming towards the area he was at and realized that they were coming from the direction that A2 pointed at.

"She did say that most of the machines are at the Factory. Looks like I'm on the right track." Raiden thought to himself as he continued his journey to the Factory

It has been a good deal of time since 9S saw Bladewolf's memory of Raiden's fight and the android has a better idea of what is going on. The muscular man has now been identified as Senator Armstrong and 9S witnessed Raiden's triumphant victory against the Senator. Once that specific memory was finished, 9S continued to observe Bladewolf's memory and nothing truly stood out to him. Though the experience did prove to be very informative. 9S learned more about Bladewolf and the humans from its time and era. Though most of this stuff can be learned from YorHa's database. Though the information that YorHa doesn't have is the information Bladewolf has on Raiden and the numerous experiments that World Marshal has done that Raiden has put a stop to. As 9S observed Bladewolf's memories, he eventually came across a memory that stood out to him.

"An alternate world, the possibility of being able to cross different dimensions is astronomical at best Raiden." Bladewolf told Raiden

"I know it sounds crazy, but it's what I experienced Wolf. You saw my recordings, how else would you explain what I went through?" Raiden asked

"Your experience isn't being denied Raiden, but it is still exceptionally hard to believe." Wolf told Raiden

"What about my gauntlets, I know that they were analyzed and the materials and energy output they display is something that most tech companies haven't even accomplished yet." Raiden told Wolf

"You are correct, the gauntlets you wear give off a strange energy signature that's unheard of. Though it is within possibility that those are just advanced Gauntlets that haven't been mass produced yet." Wolf told Raiden in a slightly skeptical tone

"Once you've seen what the teigu can do in person. You'll believe everything I've told you about what I've experienced. Especially with the stuff I've told you about Esdeath. It's bad enough she's stronger and smarter than most people I've fought. But her power to freely control ice makes her a fucking nightmare. I know I can take her on. But if she figures out my limits, she'll be a challenge for me." Raiden explained to Wolf

"From your explanation, it appears that my assistance will be needed." Wolf told Raiden which piqued 9S curiosity

"Alternate worlds, now this interesting." 9S said to himself as he looked at more memories

(The Factory)

When Raiden noticed a good deal of the machines gathered near the entrance of a large building. As well as further observed the large metallic building. He realized that he made it to the factory. Tempting as it was for him to go through the front door and cut down the machines that got in his way. Raiden knows that he came to learn and see if he can get any answers. After quickly looking over the area, Raiden saw an entrance that he can go into without any of the androids noticing anything.

Putting his stealth skills to work, Raiden managed to sneak inside the Factory while remaining out of sight from the machines. As Raiden was sneaking through the Factory, he noticed the machines being created while the other machines were in different groups. While the machines were in different groups, Raiden heard the machines talking and decided to listen in on them.

"A human has been discovered, the time of judgment is at hand." One of the machines said

"The time of judgment is at hand!" The machines have chanted

"Soon the ascent shall commence, this human is the key." One of the machines have said with the other machines repeating what was said

"These machines are acting like a bunch of deranged cultists." Raiden thought to himself before he continued through the abandoned Factory. As he travelled through the abandoned Factory. Raiden noticed that many of the machines were forming groups and said the statements that was said earlier regarding the time of judgment. Raiden admitted to being curious about what they meant about Judgment Day. But he knew that with it didn't apply to him as long as he avoids capture. Besides, he needed to learn more about the machines. Under the hopes that he learns how he showed up from out of nowhere. Or at the least, recover the portion of his memories that is missing.

As Raiden was traveling, the sensors from his nanomachines have picked up a strange energy signal. When Raiden felt the energy signal, it felt similar to the energy signal that Raiden sensed from his thunder gauntlets. Realizing that there is a connection, he made his way to the source of the signal. As Raiden traveled, he took a better look at the abandoned factory and saw numerous machines being created. As he took a better look at the abandoned Factory. Raiden saw that the machines were being mass produced at an impressive rate. Before long, Raiden felt the energy signal get stronger and he quickly found himself outside. Once outside, with his enhanced sight, he noticed a small object on the ground and several machines surrounded the object. Realizing its importance Raiden went to the ground and the machines quickly noticed him.

"The human has arrived, Judgement Day is upon. Our ascension is inevitable." One of the machines

"The ascension, the ascension!" The machines have said in perfect unison

"Yeah, this isn't creepy at all." Raiden sarcastically commented before the machines started to aggressively approach him. Before they got too close, Raiden made short work of the machines and a brief second later. They machines were scrap metal. Once the machines were dealt with, Raiden approached the object and saw that it was a broken object that was giving off strange energy. When he grabbed it, Raiden started to get a strong headache and it was overwhelming. Raiden endured it for a few minutes and before long, the headache subsided. Once it subsided, Raiden remembered a few details from his past that were a major blank.

"Damn, I can't believe I forgot so much. I remember killing Esdeath and helped Akame and my other friends. But it feels like there's something else. But there is a huge gap in my memories. I'm forgetting 4 months of my life, what the hell happened in that time?" Raiden said to himself before speaking further

"I also vaguely met someone, the memory isn't clear but it feels familiar and infuriating. Who is that person I met?" Raiden spoke further before he heard a aloud rumbling that was heading towards him. A brief second later, the nearby wall was destroyed and a large tank-like machine appeared. After breaking through the wall, the machine charged towards Raiden and reacting quickly. Raiden avoided the machine tank's charge. After avoiding the charge, the machine tank spoke.

"Judgment Day is upon us, you are the key to our ascension!" The Machine-Tank said

"I've been hearing you machines spout about this Judgment Day. Since it seems important, why don't you tell me what it is? So I can be saved a lot of time speculating." Raiden said as he wielded his sword

"You are the key, YOU ARE THE KEY!" The Machine-Tank yelled before it spun in place and released a lot energy spheres that overwhelmed the area. Raiden attempted to avoid the energy spheres. But the moment he did so, the Machine-Tank charged towards Raiden.

Seeing the Machine-Tank coming, Raiden was unable to dodge the charging tank. So instead, he used his strength to block the charging attack. Once Raiden stopped the tank, he quickly realized that the Machine-Tank is a lot stronger than he initially thought. Before he could think of a plan, a large hand came from the Machine-Tank and attacked Raiden from the side. Despite being knocked to the side, Raiden quickly recovered and noticed the mechanical hand from the Machine-Tank.

After seeing the mechanical hand, Raiden realized that he needs to deal with it as soon as he can. But before he can do anything, the Machine-Tank spun around again and released more energy spheres. But this time Raiden was prepared for the energy attack. He used his gauntlet teigu to generate electricity and released a powerful electric burst to destroy the energy spheres. Once the energy spheres are destroyed. Raiden noticed the Machine-Tank charging towards him.

This time, Raiden jumped on top of the Machine Tank and attempted to cut the mechanical hand off. Only for the Machine-Tank to fire several missiles at Raiden, causing him to quickly jump off to avoid the missile barrage. Once Raiden was off of the Machine-Tank. It proceeded to fire a barrage of energy spheres that was this time more focused and directed at Raiden.

Raiden proceeded to run to the side to avoid the energy blasts. As he was running, the giant mechanical hand tried to grab Raiden. Seeing the large hand, Raiden avoided it and after doing so. He proceeded to run towards the Machine-Tank with the plan to cut it down. Before he got too close, the Machine-Tank once again fired several missiles at Raiden. Once he saw the missiles, Raiden quickly backflipped to make space between him and the Machine-Tank. Once the space was made, Raiden saw that the missiles were still coming towards him. Quickly thinking of a plan, Raiden waited until the missiles got closer to him. The moment the missiles were close, Raiden kicked each of the missiles and successfully redirected them towards the Machine-Tank.

The redirected missiles hit the Machine-Tank and it was staggered. While it was staggered, Raiden took this chance to run towards the machine and proceeded to quickly cut down its large arm. Before the Machine-Tank could do retaliate, Raiden quickly cut the Machine-Tank at various spots while running around it, making sure to prevent it from being able to counterattack. While Raiden was attacking the Machine-Tank, one of the machine heads that's on the top eye's glowed. Once it's eyes glowed, it released an energy surge pulse that pushed Raiden back a good distance.

Once Raiden was pushed back, it tried to charge towards him with a good deal of speed and force. Again, Raiden was able to stop the Machine-Tank's charge with his raw strength. Though before it could do anything else, Raiden used his immense strength to toss it into the air and once it was in the air. Raiden jump into the air towards it and proceeded to slash at the Machine-Tank at an intense speed. Raiden realized that it was much more durable than he initially thought. But Raiden increased his strength and speed and found himself making more progress and was able to cut off various parts of the Machine-Tank's body. Before long, the Machine-Tank was quickly cut into pieces before it fell into the ground. Once Raiden returned to the ground, he quickly surveyed the locations where the Machine-Tank's parts are at and confirmed that its destroyed.

"What does it mean by ascension?" Raiden asked himself before he instinctively leaped towards the side. Once he did so, he saw a woman in black clothes land near where he used to be. When Raiden recovered, he took a better look at the woman and what made her stand out even further is her white hair and blindfold, while being accompanied by a small machine.

"Judging by your outfit, I assume your from YorHa." Raiden stated

"My name is 2B, your right I am from YorHa. I didn't expect to find you here, but this saves me a lot of time. I need you to come with me to YorHa custody for your protection." 2B told Raiden

"I'll say it again, I am not going with you guys. Just so I can be in a damn pod, frozen and unable to do anything." Raiden stated to 2B

"You've seen what these machines are capable of. No doubt you've heard the machines numerous chants about Judgment Day. Which also includes mentions of a human being discovered. It won't be long before the machines make dealing with you their top priority. So coming with us is essential for your safety." 2B explained to Raiden

"You'll have to make me go with you guys." Raiden stated as he grabbed his sword and took up a stance

"You'll see that I'm stronger than most of the androids. I also know how to bring you in through non-lethal means. You won't die, but your not going to have a pleasant experience. This is your last chance to come with me." 2B said as she grabbed her own sword

"Try it." Raiden said as the two charged towards each other.

A brief second later, Raiden and 2B clashed swords against each other before jumping away from each other. Once space was made, Raiden leaped towards her and tried to attack her with is sword. Reacting quickly, 2B blocked most of Raiden's sword attacks and eventually dodged his attack. After dodging Raiden's attacks, she started attack Raiden. He proceeded to block all of 2B's attacks while trying to think of a way to counter her.

Unfortunately for Raiden, this is what she wanted. As Pod 042 fired an energy beam at Raiden as 2B jumped out of the way. Once the energy beam hit Raiden, he found himself heavily stunned and unable to move. Raiden tried to use his strength to move but found it near impossible for him to do so and continued to struggle.

"I told you Raiden, you won't get killed but I am more than capable of bringing you in." 2B told Raiden

"Why do I always deal with machines that always underestimate humans." Raiden said as he mustered up more strength and was barely able to stand. Before 2B could properly capture Raiden. He used his thunder gauntlets to generate electricity and hit 2B with a thunderblast.

2B managed to recover while Pod 042 tried to repeat its earlier attack. Not falling for the same attack twice. Raiden quickly avoided Pod 042's attack while blocking 2B's attacks. Eventually, Raiden was able to parry 2B's attack and managed to push her back a good distance. Once 2B was pushed back, Raiden used his teigu to hit Pod 042 with a thunderblast and the Pod was knocked into a nearby wall. Once Raiden didn't have to worry about the Pod 042's attack. He used his gauntlet teigu to attack 2B with a strong stream of thunder.

Reacting quickly, 2B instantly grabbed the large broadsword on her back and used it to block Raiden's thunderblast. 2B was able to hold her position against the thunderstream. After a few seconds of blocking the attack, 2B used a good deal of her strength to push the thunderstream back and it was enough to slightly stagger Raiden. While he was staggered, 2B focused on her sword and released several sword waves at him.

The moment Raiden saw the sword waves, he quickly recovered and blocked the sword wave attacks with is sword. Raiden tried to find a way to attack her, but the barrage of sword wave attacks were coming too quickly and made things much harder for him. Eventually, Raiden thought of a plan and dashed towards 2B while blocking the sword waves. Once he got close, Raiden and 2B started to fight against each other at an intense speed with their swords.

Upon a closer glance between the two. Both Raiden and 2B are able to match each other in terms of speed and strength. Raiden was unable to use his gauntlet teigu against 2B. Because the strength and speed of her attacks prevented him from doing so. It is clear that 2B is a credible threat to Raiden and is cautious of his gauntlets. This kept going on for a while until both Raiden and 2B kicked each other and knocked each other back. Once they were separated, 2B released several more sword waves at Raiden.

This time, Raiden blocked a few more sword waves before he dodged a large sword wave by jump spinning into the air. While Raiden was in the air, he used his gauntlet to generate electricity into his sword and released a strong sword wave of his own. 2B blocked it with her large broadsword and after doing so. Raiden took this chance to get closer to her. Once 2B realized Raiden got closer to her. She used her large broadsword to attack Raiden.

Reacting quickly, Raiden jumped on her broadsword and tried to attack her with his sword. 2B managed to quickly block his sword attack with her own sword but quickly realized that Raiden has a free hand. Using his free hand, Raiden was able to land a punch against 2B and while he was on top of her. He proceeded to rapidly punch her, before he got off of her to avoid an energy blast from Pod 042.

With a small window of opportunity, 2B recovered and gathered her strength to run at an intense speed and attack Raiden in a small area. Raiden was able to quickly block each of 2B's attacks and quickly found himself on the defensive. While Raiden was focused on blocking 2B's attacks, he focused on her attack pattern. A split second later, Raiden instinctively slashed his sword to the side. The attack was barely able to land against 2B and she had to jump back to avoid being in range of more of Raiden's attacks. Though 2B wasn't injured any further, Raiden's attack was able to cut off 2B's blindfold and it fell to the ground. When Raiden looked, he saw 2B's gray-blue eyes. 2B realized she didn't have her blindfold but resumed her stance. Raiden's nanomachine sensors picked up on a signal coming from the Pod and realized that it's signaling for back-ups.

"As much as I want more people to come to our little soiree. I don't have it in me to take on more androids like you. So I think its time to cut this dance short. Au revoir madame." Raiden said before he jumped down from the nearby ledge with 2B running to the ledge.

"I doubt he would die from a jump like that." 2B told Pod 042

"Affirmative, it is highly likely that Raiden is using the jump as a chance to escape. Following him would be ill advised because of the numerous machines that is in the area. From the records we have, Raiden is capable of utilizing stealth and will likely use it to avoid the machines notice." Pod 042 told 2B

"Your right, he was right here and we were so close to capturing him. But what do you think the machines mean by the Time of Judgement and the Ascension?" 2B asked Pod 042

"Hypothesis, it appears that the machines have caught wind of Raiden's existence and will likely have an interest in him. This hypothesis is formed due to the machines mentioning a discovered human." Pod 042 briefly explained to 2B

"Which means all of the machines will be after him too. Does Commander White know about this?" 2B asked

"She does, the Commander also has an urgent update and wants you to return to the Bunker immediately." Pod 042 told 2B

"Alright, let's go." 2B responded before leaving with Pod 042

(Bunker Command Room)

Once 2B returned to the Bunker, she immediately went to the Command Room where Commander White is waiting for her along with 9S. 2B strongly suspects that this meeting is likely about Raiden. By now, the Commander knows about both the machine's behavior and her encounter with Raiden. 2B initially thought that capturing him would be easy. But after fighting him, she realized that he is much stronger than she thought and won't have the luxury of holding back at the next encounter.

"2B, I've seen the footage of the machine's abnormal behavior and your encounter with Raiden." Commander White told 2B

"It's all strange Commander, we knew that the machines would have a response at Raiden's appearance. But I never thought they would behave like this." 2B told the Commander

"Is this something we're going to have to deal with?" 9S asked in a concerned tone

"The core of the machine's newfound behavior is Raiden. Which means that if the machines capture Raiden before us. Then this ascension that they keep mentioning won't bode well for anyone. So I've decided that I am willing to answer questions pertaining to certain connections between the two stories. I won't give too much away but I do want to give some context.
