Chapter 13: Myaxx Overboard

During that night, the ship was sailing through some thick fog. Myaxx oversaw the safety of the ship. "Safely now. Safely." Thumbskull at the helm was howling in the night, trying to lighten the mood. "Steady as she goes." She ordered. "Ah, Mr. Vilgax! Good evening." She greeted Vilgax as he came on deck. "Wicked fog tonight, ma'am." He told her. "Reminds of the night we ran aground off the Panthess. Half the crew drowned in leaky lifeboats. Oh, dreadful loss it was." Myaxx looked at him in shock. "Leaky lifeboats?" She repeated. "Common occurance, ma'am." Vilgax explained. "A little-used piece of equipment falls into disrepair and becomes-" "Unsafe." Myaxx finished. "I'm not saying that our lifeboats are unsafe, ma'am." Vilgax assured. "Still." Myaxx then proceeded to test one of the lifeboats as Vilgax looked on with a sly sneer.

Myaxx prepared herself in one of the lifeboats while Vilgax held its line. "This one seems seaworthy." She said. "Oh, they do, of course, until you get them out in the open water." Vilgax said. "Oh, ma'am! Is there anything I can hold for you for safekeeping?" He asked, seeing his chance to get her keys. "Your hat? Your coat? Your keys?" Myaxx looked surprised. "My keys! Of course." She said, placing her keys in her hat. "If they were to fall overboard, it would be disastrous." She handed her hat and keys to Vilgax. "Oh, that it would ma'am." "Cast me off, Mr. Vilgax!" She ordered. "Aye-aye ma'am!" Vilgax said, following her command. "Thank you, Mr. Vilgax!" Myaxx called, rowing away. "Just doing my duty, ma'am!" Vilgax looked at the keys with a wicked smile. "Oh yes, Johnny."

The next morning, there was a yell. "Man overboard!" Kraab knocked at the door of Azmuth's cabin. "Yes?" As Azmuth answered, Kraab handed him Myaxx's hat. "I'm sorry, sir. Mrs. Aerrow has gone overboard. All we found was her hat." He said, mustering a few sobs. Azmuth looked down with disbelief at the hat of, not only his first mate, but his best friend. Azmuth arranged a funeral for Myaxx, gathering the crew. Azmuth stood on the podium and spoke. "And so, my friends, the sea has claimed another loyal officer and friend: Mrs. Myaxx Aerrow, a wonderful woman who got us up early before dawn for a good flossing. May the wind forever be at your back, Myaxx Aerrow. Rest in peace, my friend. Amen."

During this time, Argit, Liam and Solid Plugg escaped from the brig and broke into Azmuth's cabin to find the map. They found it in the same cupboard and took it. "Open it! Open it!" Liam pleaded. "No, no, no. We gotta take it to Long John." Argit reminded him. The 3 then left to find Vilgax.
