Chapter 14: Finding Out and Land Ho
Meanwhile, Gwen, Kevin and Zed were in the apple barrel, eating apples. Kevin sighed with depression. "What's wrong?" Gwen asked her boyfriend. "It just feels so weird." "You mean that Mrs. Aerrow's dead?" "Yeah, that." Kevin answered. Suddenly, Ben and Kai popped their heads into the barrel, scaring the 3. "Oh! Ben! Kai! We've missed you guys!" Gwen said. Zed popped up and started licking Ben's face. "She wants you to climb in, Ben." Kevin said. "I can't. We're doing out chores." Ben said. "Oh, come on, lovebirds. Share an apple." Gwen said. Ben and Kai smiled and dived into the barrel.
Just then, Argit, Liam and Plugg came out of the closet. "Plugg says we kill captain now." The 5 heard Plugg say, followed by Argit. "And then we'll get that twit squire." Then Vilgax appeared behind them, spooking them. "I'm an easy man. A gentleman of fortune says most." Vilgax spoke. "But it makes me sick at heart to sail with the likes of you." Kai smiled at her dad's voice putting the 3 in their place. "Now get this straight: if anyone mutinies before I says so, I'll throw you overboard like I did that scurvy disgrace to my species, Mrs. Aerrow!" The 5 looked at each other in shock at what they were hearing. "I say, let the captain steer us closer to the island." He said, pulling out the map. "I've got Ben's treasure map now! And when the time is right, we'll kill them all!" Kai felt heartbroken at hearing what her father said. "LAND HO!" A voice called from upper deck. "Come on, lads!" Vilgax led his loyal mates up deck, while the 5 peeked up from the barrel.
The ship had reached the island where Flint buried his treasure. "Land ho!" "Beachfront property!" "Retirement estates!" "Bikinis!" JT and Cash cheered. "Throw the mainsail! Drop anchor! Bring her up hard to starboard, helmsman. Lower the lifeboats!" Azmuth ordered to the crew. The 5 came up on deck and ran up to him. "Captain, we just heard." Ben whispered. "My father's planning a mutiny! And he's got the map!" Kai added. Azmuth thought about it and called to Vilgax. "Mr. Vilgax, I want you to take the crew ashore at once! We need water and provisions. Take as long as you want." The 5 looked confused as the crew cheered. Azmuth turned to the kids. "Quickly! Gather the officers and meet me in my quarters."
As the 5 gathered Rook, Driba and Blukig, Vilgax plotted to trick Ben and Kai into their boat. He took off his sash and dropped it on deck. "Kai darling!" Kai looked to her father with Ben beside her. "There's room in the boat for 2 more. Why don't you 2 come with?" He offered. Ben and Kai declined, until Vilgax pointed to his sash. Kai handed it to him. But he grabbed her arm and pulled her in. Ben rushed over, but Road Rage, still onboard, shoved him into the boat as they rowed off.
In Azmuth's cabin, Azmuth explained the plan. "Once the pirates are ashore, we set sail and return in a year or so." Gwen was looking out the window and noticed something bad. "Except for one thing: the pirates have Ben and Kai!" She pointed to the pirates rowing to the island with Ben and Kai in their custody.
