Chapter 10: Spouses
The Salt and Pepper Diner, West City...
And we arrive in Hell. At least, that's what it felt like for our Dynamic Duo of Vegeta and Android 18. Here the two of them sat, Vegeta staring at the ceiling and 18 with her hand pressed over her eyes. They had been found out, and left unable to explain themselves. Damn the ruins of that Gravity Room and damn them for allowing such vulnerability.
Bulma smiled at she sipped her milkshake. "We could do karaoke~! And couples clubbing~"
Krillin laughed. "And we could play board games and stuff too! I don't know if you'd like 'em, Bulma. Vegeta either for that matter, but 18 and I are both super into card games!"
Bulma crossed her arms over her chest. "I'll have you know I'm great at poker!"
Krillin chuckled. "Not exactly what I meant, but that's the spirit~"
Vegeta's lunch had gone cold and untouched. Krillin had ordered 18 a massive, cotton candy milkshake and she had only taken a sip. The two of them were miserable and their spouses were too oblivious to notice it.
They had never meant for things to become this public. As far as either was concerned, they were simply each other's back-up plan when Krillin and/or Bulma was busy. They didn't want to actually hang out with each other (and don't mention that they had been consistently hanging out with each other for the past couple weeks, it would make them both quite angry) and they certainly didn't want to make it a scheduled event.
So, the question was...why were they still sitting here then?
Just a few years ago for Vegeta...just a few MONTHS ago for 18...this would have been something they would have stood and walked away from without a second thought. So why were there second thoughts now?
Vegeta looked over to Bulma and saw her beaming. She was a bit of a brat, even into middle age, but Bulma was also a studious and hard-nosed worker. She was preparing to take control of Capsule Corp from her father, so she needed that work ethic. Vegeta scowled inward and thought to himself. 'Would this really be so bad if it made her this happy?'
18 looked over to Krillin and absorbed the sound of his laugh. Even though 18 was ridiculously rich, Krillin still went out and worked. Not that he was too pigheaded to take money from her, but because of something more than that. He worked as a policeman and it inspired her. It showed her the best in a world that had forsaken her and that she was prepared to forsake in turn. He had never bought her a gift with her inherited fortune and he had bought her a lot of gifts. 18 sighed and thought to herself. 'Would this really be so bad if it made him this happy?'
Bulma smiled. "So, what do you two say?"
Krillin chuckled. "Weekly couples night?"
Vegeta and 18 both rolled their eyes with a forced sigh. "Fine."
