Chapter 24: Aftermath

Eleanor's POV

I could smell the sickening scent of the unforgettable sweetness of James's remains. After saving Ginger from utter death, I've witnessed Alice, Jasper, and Emmett rip James apart, pouring gasoline over his body. I took the liberty of igniting his corpse to hell.

I'm glad all of this was over and done. Afterward, I spent a lot of energy healing Ginger's arm and leg before Carlisle told me to stop. She still had a broken arm, rib, and leg. But I managed to stop the bleeding on her leg. Followed by sealing the wounds on her leg and the bite mark. The vivid red bloody bite mark transformed into two silver crescent moons.

When the fire was out of control, Emmett took hold of me and carried me out of the ballet studio. Edward held Ginger, never letting her go while Carlisle assisted him. Meanwhile, Alice kept a secure arm on Jasper, who seemed tense, but in control from all the blood.

There was a white van waiting as we all entered. Jasper and Alice take the front, heading back to Miss Robichaux's Academy. Edward continued to hold onto Ginger throughout the drive. His black eyes linger on her. Carlisle maneuvers himself over to me.

"Are you injured?" Carlisle asked.

I shook my head, still in shock at what had transpired in the last hour.

"May I?" Carlisle asked softly.

I could only nod as Carlisle took hold of my right wrist and started checking my vitals. So far, he can detect I was in shock and that I received a concussion. He felt the back of my head, causing me to wince, confirming that I had injured my head. Followed by how I was sitting to reduce the strain on my belly. With another permission, he lifted the rip part of my dress on the midsection slightly to reveal a bruise. He asked Emmett to place a hand on the back of my head while he kept his on my midsection. I gasped at their cold hands touching skin though I sighed.

No one spoke after that.

Jasper continued to drive to Miss Robichaux's Academy.

Once back at the Academy, Cordelia leads Edward to one of the large rooms, setting Ginger on the bed. Ginger was cleaned up, and in a change of clothing, Carlisle took care of her.

"Zelena and Constance are on their way," Cordelia informed me.

I only nodded and made my way to the spare room. Once inside, I made sure the doors were locked so no one could come in. The last thing I need is everyone scolding me on how stupid I was for letting Ginger risk her life. There was no excuse. I was supposed to be the logical one. The moralist! And yet I've put Ginger and myself in danger. But what was I supposed to do?

Blood is blood.

Oh Hecate, I thought.

After a long daze, I walked into the bathroom, undressing, and sat in the tub as the hot water poured down on my body. I placed a hand on my swollen stomach, casting a spell to heal the internal bruise James inflicted. Once that was out of the way, I simply sat there wondering what the consequences were. A Caster putting another Caster in danger or killing their kind… is punishable by death. A shudder went down my spine. I have to remember that no caster has been burned at the stake for centuries.

Why does Ginger have the worst taste in men -scratch that- taste in species. Hasn't she realized that vampires are dangerous? Doesn't matter. What's done is done. There's no chance to turn back time.

Once done with my shower, I got dressed and lay on my bed. I pulled out my cellphone, checking the texts. There were countless texts from the Cullens, my family, Zelena, and…Jacob. I smiled seeing the one text from my new friend.

I first contacted my family, well, more like my father, Gideon, since Constance was flying as we spoke. I might have a better relationship with my mother, yet my father is always there for me when in trouble. He answered the phone, and I explained everything that had transpired.

"I'm scared, Dad," I cried softly.

"Eleanor," Gideon murmured. "Everything will be alright."

"But I allowed Ginger to expose us to a vampire and played along with it," I sobbed.

"You did not," he assured. "Your mentor and coven sister exposed you to vampires. You did everything you could. And from what you have told me. You have protected her to the best of your abilities."

"What will the Council think?"

"As if the Council would actually care. More like give Zelena a warning, but they will not punish you."

I took a deep breath.

"Right now, read a book or meditate for a bit and get some sleep. You are overwhelmed. Your mother will be there to help you and your coven."

"Alright," I managed to say.

"Good," Gideon murmured. "I love you, Eleanor. You've made me proud by defending yourself."

"Love you too, Dad."

"Good night."

"Good night."

I hung up the phone and stared at it. My father has shown wisdom similar to Grandfather Horatio. My father is a master of Telekinesis, Electrokinesis, and an Illusionist. Many say my father holds the potential to become a Council Member if he so desires. But right now, he is the patriarch of my family and preparing for Philip's training. I sighed, wishing the Council had let my parents be my mentor. Then I wouldn't be in this mess.

I laid down on the bed, scrolling through my texts until seeing Jessica's. She was asking if I was going to make it to Prom. Along with asking about paying my portion for the limo. Oh shit, I completely forgot about Prom and Tyler. I first sent a text to Jessica to confirmed I would be paying my part for the limo and to talk later. Then I had a quick call with Tyler to assure him everything was good from the family emergency and that I would see him at Prom. Tyler was relieved by that.

Afterward, I text Jacob: You still Alive?

I lay in bed waiting for a response. Ten minutes later, the phone vibrated. Quickly I looked at the screen. To see Jacobs's response: Yep ;)

I chuckled, glad to have a response: What's going on at the Rez?

Nothin much. Heard U R out of town.

I sighed, remembering the lie Zelena made. I wish I could tell Jacob the truth, but I knew that was impossible. So I went along with it.

Yeah, family emergency.

U OK?

Yeah. I'm stressed out.

Well, get some rest. C U soon.

OK, C U soon.

When I finished that text, I texted my other friends to keep people's suspicions at bay. The last thing we need is them thinking something terrible has happened.

"Glad that everything is over," I sighed.

I lay in bed, trying to go back to sleep. Before my eyes closed, something fell off the ground, shattering. I jumped, searching for the source of the mess, but there was no one there. Instead, a vase fell on the floor. Sighing, I got out of bed to clean up the mess until I noticed something. All the glass beads were arranged into letters:

Not Yet.

I stopped, feeling the air gone cold. There are only two ways this could have happened: either another Caster using a spell or a spirit. It was late in the night, and the door was locked, so no one could enter. I turned around to see who else was in there. Finding no one, I took a picture of this and then cleaned up the mess. Using my powers to collect the shattered glass, beads, and flowers, afterward a towel to absorb the water. When that was clean, I went to the bathroom. The moment I turned on the lights, an apparition appeared.

I gasped, blinking; only the spirit vanished.

For a moment . . . I thought I saw James.

I grabbed my bracelet, rubbing the amethyst as I thought, Grandfather, please keep watch over me.

.o0o.

Ginger's POV

It was like watching my life before my eyes, from being a mere baby up to this moment of my life. But when I opened my eyes, I didn't see the bright light nor hell. Instead, I saw one of the grand bedrooms at Miss Robichaux's Academy. At first, I thought my body would ache from all that had happened, except I only felt sore.

James! I thought in horror.

I gasped, sitting up straight. Before I could get out of bed, a cold hand gently pushed me down. Looking up, I saw Edward with a sincere face.

"Edward?" I panted, and then I remembered what I had done. "Mom… I'm sorry…he had my mom."

"Shhhh. I know, and she is all right now." Edward assured me. "Nothing to worry about. Betsy is here—well, here in the academy."

"What did you tell her?" I asked.

"Well… Since she had seen James's capabilities and knows what you are, we told her my family and I were Casters too. How there was a conflict with another coven, and you were dragged into it. I assumed you didn't want her devastated by us being vampires. She bought it after demonstrating my mind reading tricks."

I nodded, resting my head on the pillow, "How bad am I?"

"You had a broken leg, arm…four broken ribs… some cracks in your skull… bruises covering every inch of your skin…. and you've lost a lot of blood." Edward listed. "Eleanor gave you a part of her energy to save you from death. She healed most of the external injuries, along with Mrs. Rivers healed you internally. Carlisle gave you a few transfusions. I didn't like it – it made you smell all wrong for a while." He rubbed his fingers over my knuckles. "I like how you smell."

Stalker, I thought in our little joke. Then I remember James biting me as I stared at the scars on my wrist.

"How… did you do it?" I asked, remembering him drinking my blood to remove the venom.

"I'm not sure," he said. "It was impossible …to stop. Impossible. But I did."

I smiled, cradling his cheek. I'm so proud of how much more control he has than ever before. As we stayed in the moment, I thought about the events that occurred. I gasped, remembering Eleanor returned to help me. After that, everything seemed to be a blur. Edward mentioned Eleanor healed me, but to what extent. Zelena says using Vitalum Vitalis holds a major consequence.

"What about Eleanor?" I asked. "What happened to James?"

"Eleanor is fine…." Edward said, though his tone held a bit of disappointment or slight distaste. "She's been isolated since we left the ballet studio. Carlisle and Cordelia had been trying to make her come out of her room."

"But is she okay?" I asked.

Vitalum Vitalis is a dangerous ability, hence why it is one of the Seven Wonders. A Caster could transfer a part of their life force to either heal a person or resurrect someone from the dead if they had recently died. It's a give and take that holds consequences. In other words, Eleanor had shortened her life to save me. A part of her lives inside me.

She has helped me in many ways. She risked her own life to save my mom. I recall James beating her up now and then. Along with a few fireballs shot at him. How she tried to stall until the others arrived. After the ordeal, she saved my life, and I don't know how I can ever repay her.

"Alice's visions say yes," he assured. "Zelena and Constance are talking to her right now. So far, Spalding manages to slip food to her room, so she doesn't starve these past three days."

Three days? I thought. Have I been unconscious for three days? And has everyone been worried for me since then? Now I'm truly indebted to everyone.

"And James?" I asked.

"After I pulled him off of you, Emmett and Jasper took care of him." He answered. "And the woman, Victoria, she ran off."

"And did Alice see the tape?" I asked desperately.

James was bragging about Alice and recorded it.

"Yes," Edward confirmed. "She was always in the dark, that's why she didn't remember. I know. She understands now. The headmistress is searching through the archives for any records of possible witches under the name Alice in the late 19th to early 20th century who had disappeared." He then paused, looking at the door as if he had heard something. "I think I hear your mother."

He then walked over to the white plush lounge lying on it. He closed his eyes, placing a finger on his lips, before lying down. Is he literally pretending to be asleep? If he fools my mom, then give the guy an Oscar.

It wasn't a moment later that Betsy came in. Betsy looked like any woman from the southwest region. She had medium-length light brown hair, expressive brown eyes, and a round face partly sunburned over freckles. She still had a nice welt on her forehead, but the bruising elsewhere faded to a yellowish color.

It has been literally months since I last saw my mom. Sure, we've chatted via email and calls, but to see her in person somehow feels soothing.

"Georgia!" She praised, seeing that I was officially awake. She ran over to me in mere seconds, giving me a bear hug. I winced, but the pain only lasted for a moment. Once she pulled back, she kissed my cheek. "Georgia, I was so worried."

"I'm sorry, mom."

Betsy turned around to see Edward asleep on the lounge. "He never leaves, does he? You have great friends to be there for you."

"You met the others?" I asked.

"Yes, Dr. Cullen and his family. You said you have such good friends, and I believe it now." She complimented. "Oh, and Eleanor, she's such a powerful girl. I've never seen magic since your father."

I cringed when she mentioned the sperm donor. When magic started to show in me, my mother said my father was a warlock, doing small tricks on Betsy for both their entertainment. Saying his charms brought her great admiration, but his character bought her. Then his magic became dark or linked to his emotions when he held a terrible secret, leaving Betsy pregnant before I was born. I didn't believe her until Mr. Flemming found me and confirmed her statement.

Betsy then sat down on the edge of the bed with a big smile, "I have great news. The private medical clinic looked at my credentials. And they finally decided to hire me. I've talked to your mentor and Ms. Cordelia, and they agreed that you can come back and train here in New Orleans. Oh, Georgie, you said you love it here. It's sunny every day, and I found a nice apartment, and you can stay at the academy or stay with me."

"Wait, mom…" I was shocked to hear this. "I want to live in Forks."

"What?" Betsy blurted, surprised in a quiet voice not to disturb Edward.

"I want to live in Forks," I repeated. "I've already settled in at school, and I have friends. Also, I like training under Zelena's wing."

"Oh, okay, does it have to do with that boy too?" she asked.

I nodded, "Yeah, he's part of it."

She sighed, kissing my forehead, then whispered into my ear, "I think that boy is in love with you. How do you feel about hi0m?"

"I'm… I'm falling for him, mom," I answered, a bit bashful, if not fluster, knowing Edward could hear this across the room.

"He seems very nice and, let me say, handsome, if not a warlock. But Georgia, you're so young and… I don't want you to make the same mistakes as I did." She said.

"I know, mom. Don't worry about it." I assured her. "We're taking things slow…and ya know..."

Betsy nodded then suddenly, her cellphone rang. She quickly grabbed it, seeing the id number. "It's the clinic."

"Go talk to them," I said with a smile.

"Oh, all right." She chuckled, kissing my cheek. "Get some rest."

I nodded, watching Betsy leave to take her call. A minute later, Edward got back to his original seat. His expression was suddenly different, and he was more severe about an idea he had throughout the conversation.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"This is my fault." He answered.

"No, I'm still alive because of you," I said.

"No, you're in here because of me." He argued. "The worst part of it was that I thought I wasn't gonna be able to stop."

"You did stop," I reminded.

He sighed, looking down, ashamed, "Ginger, you gotta stay in New Orleans so I can't hurt you anymore."

I gawked as if God smacked. He can't be serious? He can't seriously be saying that after what has happened…. "You're joking? Not after everything we've been through. All that time we had. I can't just leave you…not like this."

"I know," Edward murmured.

"We can't be apart," I told him. "We're connected."

"I'm here." He said, taking my hand.

I took deep breaths wiping the tears away with my other hand. "Okay, just don't…say stuff like that to me. Or I'll burn you."

He chuckled as he adjusted himself to lie down next to me. An arm wrapped around my waist, keeping me close. "Where else am I gonna go?"

I sighed, cuddling up to him. My head rested on his chest, breathing in his sweet smell. Even when his body was freezing cold, it suited New Orleans' hot weather. As we cuddled, Edward combed his hand delicately through my hair. His motion is elegant and impossible to describe.

"Can I ask you something?" he asked.

"Will it give me another heart attack?" I replied.

"No," he assured.

"Okay," I mumbled.

"Will you go to prom with me?" he asked.

I couldn't stop the Cheshire smile from spreading along my lips. Like any girl who wants to check off every important event in their life. And Prom with a date is one of them. Also, this covers Mr. John Doe's date I've been telling everyone. So adjusting my head to face him.

"Yes."
