Hey earthlings! I hope you enjoy! I own nothing except a dysfunctional computer.
Five times. In the three weeks that it took Izuku, Kacchan, and All Might to get to Uyay Academy, that's how many times they were attacked by demons. It was great. On top of that were the usual fight training and lessons, only now they were even more intense. Izuku was sure he'd be too tired to do anything once they reached the academy.
They reached the academy the day before the first day. Once inside the ornate silver gates, it was practically a city by itself, with merchant stalls and homes for the staff lining the roads. The entire campus was probably bigger than Izuku's village.
And the actual school… it was gorgeous. The main campus was in the very center, and it was huge. The biggest building was (according to All Might) the auditorium and administrative rooms, though there were about ten or so slightly smaller buildings- dorms, an amphitheater, classrooms, etc- in a neat circle around it. All of the buildings were white and silver, and their walls were sparkling clean. Izuku loved it instantly. Even Kacchan looked faintly impressed.
All Might marched into the biggest building, and the two boys followed. It was just as clean on the inside, with doors every few feet that probably lead to teachers' offices and the like. They climbed up a long staircase before finally reaching a door marked "Headmaster Nezu." When All Might knocked, a voice called, "Come in!"
A mouse was sitting behind a huge desk. The mouse was bigger than most rodents- about half Izuku's size- but it was still a mouse. In the principal's office. What made it even weirder is that All Might seemed to think this was absolutely fine and normal.
"Ah, Toshinori," the mouse said warmly. "Has he passed the quest?"
"Yes. This is my Heir, Izuku Midoriya, and his friend, Katsuki Bakugou. He wants to become a hero, but he doesn't have an official sponsor-"
"Don't worry! If he is a friend of the next king, I'm sure he will be a worthy student." The mouse (was this Nezu?) beckoned the boys closer and examined them. He looked closer at Izuku. "You are Midoriya, I presume?"
"Um… yes sir?"
"Hm. Have you had any sort of real education before this?"
"No. But All Might has been teaching me, and-"
"Right. And you, Bakugo?"
"I'm the Dragon King! I have lots of experience fighting!"
"But nothing formal." Both of the boys were silent. Nezu shrugged. "Well, it is what it is. Toshinori, you will be staying in the local inn. If you wish, I can give you a job as a security guard. You are good with a sword, even if it's not the Ruling Sword."
All Might looked surprised for a second, then smiled. "I'd like that."
"Good. Boys, you will be in the Hero class 1-A. Your dorms have a sign written over the doors so you'll know which one. Your teacher will give you a list of the rules, and your uniforms and supplies will be in your closets by the time you get up there. If you need anything, feel free to come talk to me. Thank you for attending Uyay Academy!" Nezu grinned. Izuku got the feeling that they were supposed to leave now.
"Why the hell is the headmaster a rat?" Kacchan whisper-yelled as soon as they'd left the building.
All Might shrugged. "No one knows. Rumor has it that he's been here since it was founded, though, so treat him with respect."
"Why are you looking at me, old man? I'm respectful as-"
"Midoriya." All Might handed the boy the sheath with the ruling sword in it. He looked grave. "Do not tell anyone about where the sword really comes from, all right? Pretend it's a replica of the real sword. Be careful, and make sure that you stay out of trouble."
"Got it." Izuku took a deep breath. This was it. He was finally in Uyay!
"Come on, Deku! We need to go find whoever the hell our teacher is!"
"RIght!" Izuku waved at All Might and called, "Thanks for everything!" as he sprinted after his friend. The older man had helped him- given him so much. Izuku would always be grateful to him. But now, he had to find his dorm building.
The 1-A dorm building was bigger than Izuku's house. Heck, it was probably bigger than his old school. It was the same silver and white as all of the other buildings. Izuku had never slept in such a nice-looking place. Kacchan didn't look impressed, but it was pretty obvious that he was if you knew him well. The green-haired boy grabbed his friend and pulled him inside.
The first room looked like some sort of common area. It was set up with couches and tables, and in the furthest corner was a huge bookshelf. Some kids were already gathered on the couches and chairs- a boy with yellow hair that had a dark, weirdly shaped streak in it, a muscular boy with red hair, and… someone else. A female. Definitely a female. But she was pink. Like, everything about her was pink- skin, hair, everything- except for her eyes. They were black with tiny gold pupils in the center. She was…
"A demon?" Kacchan stared at the girl, confused. The three turned to stare at them, with the red-head scooting closer to the demon protectively.
The girl didn't look too bothered, though. "Yep! I'm Mina Ashido! I don't eat people!" She laughed, like this was the funniest joke in the world.
"The principal decided to let in a few demons this year, just to see what'll happen," a new voice chimed in. A pretty black-haired girl had appeared in the doorway that presumably led to the rest of the building. Behind her stood another girl, this one with shorter purple hair. "Ashido is a member of our class and will be treated as such."
Izuku shrugged. He wasn't completely sure about this, but the principal had approved the demons coming here, so she must be safe. And the girl didn't look dangerous. It was a little freaky just knowing that she was a demon, but other than that she just looked like another teenager. A pink teenager, but still. He smiled. "I'm Midoriya, and this is-"
"Dragon King."
"... Kacchan."
"Don't call me that, Deku!" The blond glared at the people on the couch. "None of you dumbasses call me that."
"Well, I'm not calling you Dragon King," The smaller boy on the couch laughed. "Are you, like, imitating that kid who ran around on a dragon for a few months?"
"No. I am that kid." Kacchan definitely enjoyed the dawning look of horror on the other kid's face. "But since I'm here, I'm Bakugo. Don't talk to me, extras."
Izuku groaned internally. This was what he'd been nervous about. Kacchan wasn't so… good with people. Yeah, after you got to know him he wasn't completely awful, but that took time. A lot of time. And even in the village, he hadn't had very many friends. Most of whom were also jerks, so he ditched them a few years before he left. And now he was probably scaring their new classmates.
"Bakugo, huh?" the redhead asked. He didn't look too bothered. In fact, he was grinning. "I'm Kirishima. The other guy is Kaminari. You wanna sit with us?"
"No way, extras!" Kacchan walked away and pushed past the black-haired girl, presumably to find his room. This didn't seem to bother any of the kids on the couch too much. They just laughed and kept talking about...something.
"Do you know where the teacher is?" Izuku asked the dark-haired girl. So far she seemed to be the most responsible one.
She shrugged. "He informed me that he had to… get ready for classes. I placed a copy of the schedule in everyone's room, as well as the rule list and chore assignments. He also said that we must be at the auditorium by six o'clock today and until then, we must stay in the building. You're Izuku Midoriya, right?"
"Um… yes?"
"You're in room 2-3," she said, looking at her paper and handing him a small key. "Your uniforms and supplies will be in there. I'm Momo Yaoyorzu, and I'm glad you're here!"
Izuku smiled and walked past her into a hallway. The shorter girl standing behind Yaoyorzu shook her head and sighed. "Not everyone here is so formal," she whispered. "She's just practically royalty, so she has to act like it." Izuku nodded and kept walking. These people seemed… nice, if a little odd. He couldn't wait to get to know them better.
His room was nice, if a little plain- white walls, a bed, a dresser, a closet, and a desk with a mountain of books, pens, and paper atop it. Izuku set his bag down on his bed and shoved his sheath under it before he noticed the plain brown trunk. It looked a little like his mother's.
Inside were all the things he hadn't been able to bring on his quest- his favorite books, some more clothes, a painting of him and his mother from when he was five or six, and a note.
Izuku,
Today some nice people showed up and told me that you will be attending Uyay. Until then, it hadn't really sunk in for me how fast you were growing up! I sent you some things you left behind, as well as some homemade candies. I'm so excited to see you become the man you were always meant to be. Remember to write to me, and tell me all about your adventures at school! Tell All Might hello for me, and please try to keep Katsuki from being too loud. And remember, you were chosen for a reason.
Love,
Mom.
Izuku smiled sadly at the paper, tears running down his face. He missed his mother. She must be so worried about him. He decided to write her a letter right then.
At a little before six, Izuku looked up at the clock on the wall and realized that he had to get to the assembly. He rushed down the stairs and out the door, not stopping until he reached the main building's auditorium. He couldn't see Kacchan in the crowded space, so he ended up next to a complete stranger.
"Hey! You're the kid with the copy of the Ruling Sword from that village!"
Izuku turned to see the brown-haired witch smiling at him. Beside her stood the knight. "Oh, um, hi! You're Uraraka and Iida, right?'
"Yep! You're Midoriya! Where's your friend, the Dragon King?"
"I have no idea."
"Well, feel free to watch the proceedings with us!" Iida also had a very formal way of speaking. Had he met Yaoyorozu yet? They'd probably get along great. But both of these kids seemed nice, and it was better than standing by himself or, worse, next to complete strangers. There might be more people in this building right now than there were people in Izuku's village, and it made him a little uncomfortable.
"So, I know you're probably studying to be a knight, but what about you?"
"You are mistaken, Midoriya! I am studying to be a Hero!" Then… why had he been dressed as a knight? Izuku decided maybe it was better to not question.
Uraraka giggled slightly. "I'm studying to be a Hero too! You are too, right?"
"Yeah, I'm so excited!"
"Me too! It's gonna be sooo much fun!"
"I agree, though it also will be hard work."
"That might be part of the fun!" Uraraka laughed again.
They were probably going to continue this conversation when a man with really spiky hair walked onto the platform. "Goooood evening young listeners!" he boomed. His voice was unnaturally loud. "I'm the school's announcer, Present Mic!
"Now. as I'm sure all of you are aware, Uyay Academy isn't like most schools! You can study to be a knight, politician, advisor, or hero, and go right into the king's service when you're through. But that means that everyone here is gonna have to work ten times harder than in a normal school! Are y'all good with that?"
"Yeah!" the auditorium screamed in unison.
"Good! Well, that's all I gotta say about that! Classes start right at eight tomorrow, and you better not be late! Students can eat in the cafeteria- and that food is free-, in the marketplace right outside, or in their own dorms! In fact, after the first week, cooking will be a chore that you will be expected to do for your class three times a week! Don't leave school grounds without permission, and make sure to be in your dorms by eight every night unless you've been told otherwise. Look out for each other, and older students? Maybe give the first years a hand every once in a while! Remember to listen to the rules and your dorm master, and always go beyond…"
"Plus Ultra!" Even Izuku knew the school's motto. It was the slogan of the entire kingdom, but was most often said at the academy. He'd never heard it yelled in a huge group with a common goal before. He kinda liked it. The students started shuffling towards the doors, presumably to go find a place to eat. Right about then Izuku realized that he hadn't eaten since breakfast. Which had just been a slice of bread. He was hungry, but he didn't have any money. The cafeteria was free…
"Midoriya!" Uraraka said. She grinned at him. "You want to go find a restaurant to eat at?"
"Oh, um, sorry, but I don't have any extra money."
Iida adjusted his glasses. "I would be happy to pay for my classmates' first meal at Uyay Academy! It should be a special occasion!" This guy was loud. And he talked with his hands a lot. But he seemed pretty nice, and the Uraraka was sweet. Izuku had never had a good friend except for Kacchan, so he would take any chance to get new ones.
And speaking of Kacchan… normally Izuku would be worried about leaving him alone. There was always the danger that he'd blow something up or get someone important mad at him. But then the green-haired boy spotted him walking around with the kids from earlier- Kirishima, Kaminari, and Ashido. He didn't look happy, but if he didn't look murderous either. Considering how… energetic that particular group had seemed earlier, that was probably a good thing.
Izuku smiled. His friend would be fine. He turned back to Uraraka and Iida and said, "Yeah, let's go!"
Dear Mom,
I made it to school! It's gonna be so much fun! I finished my Quest, and I'm officially going to be the next king!
The school's a little weird, but it's so cool. I think it might be bigger than our village! The headmaster is a little strange, and I haven't even met whoever's in charge of our dorms, but everyone else seems really cool!
I met some of my classmates. I even went out to dinner with two of them! I met them both on my Quest, and they're both really nice. I think you'd like them. And I think even Kacchan made some new friends! Or at least, people he doesn't hate.
I miss you, but I'll write to you again tomorrow to tell you how my first day goes. And don't worry, I'll make sure to be safe. Thank you for sending my trunk!
Love,
Izuku
PS: I forgot to mention, All Might got a job at the school! I don't know if he's ever had a job besides being a king before, so I'll see how this goes!
Now I can finally start getting into the actual storyline! Yay! It's going to follow along with the manga/anime decently well, though there might be a few changes for plot purposes. Leave a review if you have constructive criticisms, suggestions, questions, or words of encouragement! Later, potaters!
