"On second thought, is this really the best idea? I mean, considering she wanted to be left alone?" Weiss asks.
"It's a hero's duty to interfere when someone needs help!" Ruby replies.
"Calm down, anime protagonist. But yes, I think it's a good idea." Blake looks to you.
"I'd agree. If I hadn't shown up when I did, who knows what she would have done?" you say.
"Just be prepared to see Yang at her worst." Weiss looks at you. "Well, maybe a bit better than worse, considering what you told us."
You consider the fact that you've seen both Weiss and Blake at what would probably be considered their worst. Blake's episode for sure, but Weiss also broke down when she pushed Blake away and didn't see her for a few days. Admittedly, Yang wasn't your girlfriend/roommate-soon-to-be-girlfriend, so she might not appreciate it. That said, you already saw her tearing punching bags off of ceilings and being completely incapable of landing a decent attack on you in a boxing match. Whatever point she was at now was definitely not her worst.
"We're already here. It'd be a waste not to do anything. If nothing else, we can drop it off and say, 'See you Monday.' The one good thing her ex did was screw things up on a weekend."
"I still don't think it's a good idea to let her be alone ALL weekend!" Ruby said. "Even you had Sun that one time, Blake! And you definitely wanted to be alone."
Blake narrowed her eyes, looking upset with herself. "Yeah… I'm honestly lucky he didn't get the message; who knows what would have happened if he hadn't stuck around. That's why I say we do it and make it known that we're here for her."
"I wonder if she can hear us…" you bring up, noticing the fact that four of you were chatting in the hallway outside your apartment. You'd all let Yang have a day to herself, both for her sake and so you and your harem could have sex freely, but now, you'd decided to, at the very least, say hi to her. You'd also brought a small cake just for the sake of it, and that felt like a good idea. If nothing else, Yang knew people cared for her, and she'd get something sweet to eat.
"We're wasting time," Blake said. Before anyone could stop her, she pushed past you all and wrapped her knuckles on the door to your apartment. The sound echoes clearly through the breezeway, so you know that Yang would be able to hear.
"Hold up," Yang's voice said from behind the door. You wait a minute or two before the door swings open. The reason she took a moment might be explained by her clothes; she was wearing a pair of short shorts, barely covering more than panties would. In addition, she had very clearly just thrown on a Beacon jacket, judging from the fact that it was almost completely unzipped, exposing the fact that she didn't have a bra on. When she sees her team, she smirks and says, "Yeah, I should have expected this." When she sees you in the mix, she jumps a bit, looks down at her, "I'm barely wearing anything," outfit, blushes, and zips up her jacket a bit to hide away her breasts. "I… was just gonna hop in the bath in a sec," she justifies, opening the door wide.
You and your girlfriends enter your apartment, filtering in past Yang. It was still clean, as Yang had only set up her console on the TV and brought a bag of clothes, so everything looked neat and tidy. The four of you spread around making space, while Ruby deposits Yang's cake on the table in the kitchen area.
"Tadahhh!" Ruby says, opening the cake. "We brought comfort food!"
Yang furrows her brow. "I'm not THAT depressed. I'm pretty much back in the fight now; just needed to be alone." Seeing Ruby look down sadly, she throws in, "Not that I'm going to say NO to a cake!" She sidles up past her sister and finds your paper plate stash. "Where do keep silverware?" Yang asks, passing out plates for everyone.
You use your Semblance to open the drawer of silverware and pull out a few forks. Thankfully, you were a lazy bache- well, you had a bunch of plastic forks, so that would mean easy cleanup.
"A-thank you~" Yang sings, opening the cake and dividing it up. She took a big piece of the chocolaty goodness and passed it to her sister, who eagerly accepted.
"But what about her sugar–" Weiss asks, worried about Ruby's penchant for cavities.
"It's my cake and she'll eat it if she wants to," Yang answered, smiling. Ruby put her hands together and bowed with reverence before drooling. "Blake, Weiss, get your asses over here; I'm not eating all of these calories on my own." The two girls looked at each other and shrugged, then came to the table to get served. Yang portioned out appropriate amounts for everyone, including you, and you all took seats around the room.
The five of you happily munch on cake, happy that Yang wasn't filled with wall-smashing wrath or debilitating sadness. Ruby scarfs her down, thankful for her first taste of real sugar in a week or two; you're quite proud of her for being able to hold off, even if you're certain that she's probably snuck something once or twice. In short order, you've all had your fill of chocolate, and the chatter devolves into a pleasant silence.
Yang puts her legs up on the other chair at the kitchen table. Leaning back, she looks up to the ceiling and says, "Thanks, guys. I know I said I wanted to just kinda chill, but… you guys did good in coming here. All of you."
"Of, course, sis! What kind of team would we be if we didn't?" Ruby looks at you and corrects herself. "And friends! We're not all teammates, but we're still all friends! What kind of friends wouldn't help?"
Yang laughed. "Partners might be a better term."
Weiss raised a point, "But wouldn't that get confusing? I mean, even ignoring Ruby and me, Blake is considered your, 'partner,' according to Beacon. That's the official term for the two-person squads formed from the initiation."
Yang thought for a second and let out a breath. "No reason that we can't be both." She pauses for a second and says, "Oop, wait, no. Uhh…. I mean… we can be partners and still be…". She drifts off, losing her train of thought. She leans forward and covers her mouth as she thinks of what she meant. "I mean, we're partners, of course, Blake and I, but you guys are partners too. In the boyfriend-girlfriend sort of– girlfriends sort of way…"
You fail to remember a time where Yang was this lacking in words. Usually, she always knew exactly what she meant to say and said it. The closest you could think of was that time you caught her making breakfast. She was also being a bit dodgy as if she meant one thing but it came out as the other.
"We are a bit of a weird situation, aren't we?" Weiss says, slightly melancholy. "At least it seems to be working so far! I've been happier than I ever was at home."
"I'm glad we can beat racist, slave-driving parenthood," Blake jokes.
"How DARE you!?" Weiss shouts, furious. "Terrible or not, that is my FATHER you are talking about!" Steaming, she stares at Blake, fury in her eyes.
Blake's eyes sink and her mouth falls open. "Oh, I'm sorry… I just…"
Weiss immediately 180s into laughing, "No, no, I'm joking. Please, tell me my father is awful in every way imaginable. The Brothers know he's barely passable as a human being." She devolves into a giggle fit at seeing Blake's completely off guard reaction.
"Wow. You ARE doing a good job at the whole relationship thing," Yang says, giggling herself. "You managed to get WEISS to crack a decent joke!"
When Weiss calms down, she wipes a tear from her eye and gets out the last few giggles. "I've been preparing for that moment, I'll admit. That was… QUITE enjoyable."
Blake recovers from Weiss' humor. "That is pretty impressive of you, but you never mention that you were practicing it. Ruins the magic and all."
"It was pretty funny, though," Ruby says, delighted as everyone else. "I'm glad to know we broke you out of your angry ice queen shell."
"How DARE you call me an ice queen!?" Weiss fake-yells through a smile. "No, in all actuality, that is totally fair to say. I know I was… a bit of a brat when I first arrived here, but I'm glad you helped me grow. And now we're like one big happy family!"
"Does that make me the wine aunt, then?" Yang asks. "Seeing as I'm not part of your little entourage."
"We don't need another one," Ruby says, strangely unhappy. Usually, she'd say something like that in a jokey tone, but that was completely serious. You make a note to find out about that later.
"Frankly, I'm done drinking for a bit. Getting tipsy was what brought me to the conclusion to bang my deadbeat ex. I think I'll try hard drugs."
"Yang, please don't joke about becoming an addict," Ruby says again, also solemnly.
"I mean, I can SEE you helped yourself to seconds of my cake, Sweet Tooth."
Ruby fumbles with her empty plate of cake, messily devoured. She shies away, knowing she'd been beaten. "You said it was okay…" she whispers.
"And it was. We want you to know blow your teeth out, not live forever without tasting joy."
"We're all allowed to treat ourselves every once in a while."
As everyone agrees with the sentiment of treating one's self, the conversation dies down. There's a moment of quiet as everyone sits and enjoys each other's company.
Eventually, Yang leans back in her chair once more and sighs. "So, did you guys JUST come to drop off a cake?"
Blake answers, "Well our plan was to say hi and see if you were in a mood to be around other people."
"I'm… I'm always happy to be around you guys. You make me… you make me feel happy. But… just to hang around?"
"Something along those lines, at least," Weiss says, confused. "Why? Did you expect us to just let you mope all weekend?"
"No… No, I honestly was expecting a call or something but…" Yang trails off.
"But…?"
"You didn't want to… I dunno… ask something?"
"What? Like, 'are you okay?'"
Not looking at anyone, Yang scratches her cheek and surveys the ceiling. "Not really…"
"You're not usually this dodgy, Yang. Is something wrong? Er… something other than the other day?"
Yang takes a deep breath and lets it all out before speaking. "You're gonna make me say it, aren't you?" She leans back down and braces herself. You notice that she's quite noticeably blushing, and lacking confidence as well.
"Yes?" you, Blake, Weiss, and Ruby ask in unison.
"Wow… this is hard. I've never… I've never actually… asked anyone out before…"
The four of you stare at Yang, coming to a realization.
"Is… is there room for one more?"
