Toshinori was worried, after what he heard from Gran Torino he couldn't sleep well. How could he be so blind? Gran Torino's story didn't match with Hisashi, that wasn't so bad since Hisashi could be lying, but the reason was that his story didn't match the reality.
He was walking fast to talk to Mirai, he need to talk with someone that could make a better judgment. He knocks at the door of the man's office and waits.
"Enter, Toshi!" He hear the man calling and entering the room, Mirai was working on some paperwork. He was never good with that. "I guess it didn't go as expected?"
"You wouldn't believe what he told me!" Toshi sits on the couch and passes his hand at his face, he was so stressed by what he heard before that he couldn't teach today.
"Tell me everything from the beginning so I can help you." Mirai got some beers from the fridge so the man could relax a little. "We have time."
"Okay, I went to see Gran Torino as you are aware." Toshi takes a deep breath before he continues, this would be bad.
-/Sorahiko Torino apartment Yesterday /-
Toshinori was sitting on a green couch that has seen better days, it almost broke just by the man sitting there, in front of him Sorahiko Torino also know by his old hero name Gran Torino was sitting on a chair.
Gran Torino is an extremely short, elderly man with heavy wrinkles and a scrawny build. He has a light complexion and brown eyes. His hair is grey and spiky, styled short with some bangs hanging forward and a trimmed beard.
"You don't call me in years, and suddenly you want to talk about Nana." The retired hero looks at Toshinori with suspicion "Why?"
Toshinori was scared, even if he was the symbol of peace, he was still scared of his former teacher. But what he fears the most is what he may hear from the man.
"It's about my master son." He sees the eyes of the old hero widening in surprise, then narrowing in suspicion.
"How do you know about that?" The man was sure Nana haven't said anything to him.
"How I know is not important, the important thing is, why you never said anything?" Toshinori looks into Sorahiko eyes, looking for anything that can help him understand the old hero.
"Because is not your business, Nana decided for her own will to leave her son behind and focus on her work." Sorahiko's tone was cold, the man was acting like he didn't care for the kid. "The boy is living without a problem, so don't bother him."
"Living without a problem? He is dead!" He see the old hero's eyes widening, but once again he went back to his neutral expression. "His youngest son killed the whole family because his quirk was out of control."
"It's a pity then, but how do you know that?" He kept a neutral expression and his voice was still cold.
"A friend told me, he told me many things." Toshinori can't understand why he was being so cold, didn't he just hear Nana's grandson killed his family?
"Like what?" Sorahiko has a raised brow.
"When my master was training me, she has met a child that was struggling with his quirk." Toshinori wasn't afraid of his former teacher now, he just want answers. "Sounds familiar?"
"So that's what all this is about? A homeless kid that thought he loved Nana?" Sorahiko sees Toshi's hands closing into fists. "What you want to know Toshinori?"
"You didn't let the boy approach my master, you made sure he couldn't be near her until the day before she died." He needs to be calm, he wasn't liking this talk. "Why?"
"We are heroes, Toshi. We don't need unnecessary distractions. I told Nana that she shouldn't have kids if she was going to fight All for One." Sorahiko sees for the first time anger in Toshinori's eyes, and it wasn't because of a villain. "Yes, I didn't let a kid get on the way of our mission and I told her to leave her son behind, and I still think I did the right choice."
"The kid you didn't let approach my master is Hisashi Midoriya, the only person strong enough to make All for One scared to approach." He sees his former teacher looking at him unimpressed. "He is strong and told me many things, he saved many lives, Lady Nagant is living with his family since he avoided that she was sent to jail because of the corruption at the Hero Association."
"So? He is a hero now, what this has to do with you coming here?" Sorahiko was getting annoyed by Toshi not getting to the point.
"After what you did to avoid that he approached her, he went to All for One and became his best assassin. After he went to UA, he married while hiding his true quirk from the world." Toshinori knows that this will make an impact on the old hero. "There will be a siege against villains that will go wrong and many heroes will die. You are one of them, Nana grandson will kill you."
He sees the old hero's eyes widening, even Sorahiko could feel the irony of Nana's grandson killing him.
"So you came to warn me?" He was curious now.
"No, I came here because I wanted to confirm something, sadly what I suspected is true." Toshinori stands and starts walking to the door while the old hero was looking at him, he stops in front of the door. "I gave One for All to Melissa Shield, only quirkless people can use that power now. She is training with it for years and is even at UA, she is way better than I was."
"You already passed the quirk? And you haven't told me?" He was disappointed with him. "You should have told me that you were looking for a successor so I could find one worth it."
"I already found someone worth it, this quirk was from my master, it became mine, now it's Melissa's quirk." He turn to his former teacher, this was the first time he used this tone with the old hero. "You shouldn't have gotten in the way of Hisashi, and you shouldn't have told my master to leave her son behind."
"You talk like I am responsible for his family fate." Sorahiko narrow his eyes at his former students, he didn't like his tone.
"Because it is! Her son grow up hating heroes with all his being, he became an abusive father and made his son hate the heroes so much that when his quirk got out of control his first victims were his dog and sister." Toshi yells and turns to the man with pure anger. "If you haven't told her to leave her child, he wouldn't become like that, his son wouldn't become a villain and the successor of All for One."
Toshinori was angry, with Sorahiko? With himself? With Hisashi? He isn't sure, but his former teacher's lack of sympathy with his master family was making him lose his calm.
"Do you want to know what else I hear? You will try to fight the boy at the siege and you don't try to reach him, you just try to kill him." He sees the old hero kept a neutral expression while looking at him. "He didn't deserve what he suffered and you will just rub salt at the injury."
"If you came here hoping to see me regretting my decision, you wasted my time and your breath, and at my age, only the former has value." Sorahiko stands and starts walking to open the door. "Now if you excuse me, I have things to do so you can go."
"So you don't regret it? I guess he was right about you then." Toshinori leaves his former teacher behind and jumps to a roof nearby.
He needs to talk with someone, he needs to vent his emotions somehow. He decides to talk with Mirai tomorrow, his friend would help him as always.
For the first time since his debut, Toshinori was thinking of taking a vacation.
-/ Mirai Office Present Time /-
"He didn't show any sign of regret? Anything?" Mirai was surprised by that, this speaks volumes about the former hero's personality. "What do you want to do now?"
"I don't know, I still need to train Melissa. The sports festival is near and she needs to show the world that she is here." Toshinori rubs his eyes, the stress was making him tired. "I know Hisashi is aware of him now, we may hear news about his death soon."
"After what you heard today, can you blame him? Hisashi isn't mad for not being able to talk with Nana, his anger is because Gran Torino is the reason for that family tragedy." Mirai gives Toshinori another beer.
"I know, but I was expecting him to be at least a little sorry for what happened!" Toshi drink the whole can in one go, Hisashi telling him about All for One and the situation with Gran Torino was making him stressed.
"Toshi, as your friend let me tell you this." Mirai finishes his beer and gets another for him and Toshi. "You don't need to carry the world on your shoulders, I will never say this in front of him, but Hisashi was right for siding with All for One."
Mirai sees Toshinori looking at him as if he was mental, which was expected considering his history with the villain.
"The corruption at the Hero Association, Kaina, David, Enji, you. Hisashi was forced to join him to protect those he loves, he changed many things for the sake of protecting everyone." Mirai sees Toshinori nodding, the man can understand his reason. "He said before that some people become villains because they didn't have a choice, I think he said that from experience."
"That makes it worse, can you imagine how bad it would be if he was a villain?" Toshi feels a shiver in his spine just by imagining Hisashi as a villain.
"You were quirkless, you suffered a lot because of that." Mirai know this was a sensitive topic for him. "You could have become a villain too if wasn't for Nana."
"I remember, the beatings, the insults, everything." Toshinori gives a dry chuckle remembering one thing that happened some years ago. "I remember saving someone years ago, he didn't recognize me, but I did recognize him as someone that liked to beat me all the time."
"The world is round because it goes around." Mirai laughs at the irony. "Imagine his reaction if he knew you are the boy he bullied!"
"Sometimes people forget that we are also humans and that we were children once." He finishes another beer and sighs. "I guess Gran Torino forgot that, that must be the reason he did all that."
"Or he is just an asshole!" Mirai see Toshinori looking at him with surprise, it was rare to see Mirai talking like that. "The quirk wasn't his, so he shouldn't talk about it."
"I guess you are right!" Toshi just agreed with his friend.
They got in a comfortable silence drinking, it's been a while since they could have a moment like this.
Mirai knows Toshi always tries to carry the world on his shoulder, it's something he shares with Hisashi. Both forget that sometimes people don't need protection, both also need to know when to rest.
'Funny how they don't notice that.'
-/ Melissa Workshop /-
After they deliver their reports to the teachers, everyone went to Melissa's workshop at the same building that her father. They were excited to work on this project and the idea of showing it at the sports festival was too tempting to ignore.
"Okay, while Mei, Izuku, and I work on the program, you guys will work on removing rust, lubricating, mold, etc." Melissa was ordering as a commander to her squad.
"Shouldn't you three focus on the program and when it's working, we do that?" Katsumi has a raised brow.
"With Melissa's knowledge about AI, we must have the program ready to be tested soon. We need everything ready for when we begin to build the body." Mei was already preparing to work.
"I know it's boring, but if we don't have to worry about that we can focus on something else." Izuku rubs the back of his head, he understands why they could complain. Simo and Brunhilde were running around playing with each other while they work.
"Relax Izuku, we will do it." Itsuka grabs a wire brush and gets to work, the others were following her.
"I will take the screws, nuts, and other small things and put everything on a tank with muriatic acid." Neito copies Reiko's quirk to move everything.
"Good Idea, it will remove the rust and we can work on everything else." Shoto grabs sandpaper and starts working on some carts they could see at markets.
"Reiko, Yui, help me with those fridges. The sooner we repair those things, the sooner we sell them and buy everything we need." Setsuna points at the fridges piled up.
"Sure." Yui starts shrinking one fridge so Reiko can move.
"All right, the sanding machines are charged. I will use my quirk on them so you guys can work on another fridge."
"Juzo and I can work at cabinets and wardrobes." Inasa was excited to get to work.
"We need to be careful, I hope you guys don't forget to wear gloves." Juzo knows they are excited, but safety first.
"Let's make sure that everything is ready before the sports festival." Katsumi grabs another sandpaper and goes help Shoto.
They were working there for hours, they even called their parents to ask them permission to work until late. Kazuya was a little sad that they couldn't go to the dojo for a while, but he understand that they want to help Melissa and Mei.
That was a feeling that their masters shared, they were all united to help Mei and Melissa gain sponsors. Their parents are proud of them for wanting to do everything by themselves, It's a sign their kids are growing up to become full adults.
They managed to do a lot of work at repairing everything, their quirk is useful in this kind of situation. And that's how they spent their time, they go to school, go to Melissa workshop, go back home and continue to do research or train, sleep, repeat.
-/ Two weeks later /-
In two weeks, they sold everything they managed to repair, fridges, cabinets, wardrobes, etc. Izuku, Melissa, and Mei worked on their AI the whole time, even at UA, it was hard to develop something like this.
They didn't want a simple AI to just follow orders, they want something that can save lives on their own. After working on the program almost 24/7 they made test after test and their progress was slow but steady.
They were going to do the last test before calling a day, they are tired since they weren't sleeping much, but it will be worth it later.
"All right, test #731." Melissa rubs her eyes, she was very tired. "Initiate program!"
They see that everything was working, the program was running okay, they didn't have any blue screen, or a sudden reset of the computer, it was going well.
"All right, nothing exploded again, that's a good sign!" Mei keep her happy tone, even with large bags under her eyes, she was always a happy person.
"It's disturbing to hear that from you." Izuku gives a side glance at Katsumi working with Neito on a fridge. "Or Kacchan for that matter."
"Let's test it." Melissa clear her throat and go near the mic. "Hello!"
They wait a little and nothing happened, they don't see anything on the screen. It was disappointing to fail so many times, but they would try as many times as they need. Mei approaches the mic and tries to talk with it.
"Hello!" She looks at the screen and still nothing. "What could be wrong this time?"
"Last time we got at least some sort of sign!" Izuku was looking at the screen trying to see if they lost any detail. "It seems to be running alright, what are we missing?"
"Let me try something!" Melissa decides to use the keyboard to see if she get a reaction, she types "Hello!" at the command box and sees the text appearing on the screen.
They wait a few seconds and sigh disappointed that they failed again until they hear the sound of a notification. They turn to the screen again and see that they finally got what they wanted.
"Hello!" It was a single word, but for them, it was like they had just seen a child speaking for the first time.
"YEAAAAAHHHHH!" They yell together, scaring their friends, they look at the three staring at the screen.
"Guys, come here!" Izuku calls them to see that they did it.
"Our baby said his first word!" Mei's excitement made them curious.
"Normally I would tell you to be careful about phrasing, but this time I agree with you." Melissa points at the screen. "It didn't answer to our voices, but it did answer when I used the keyboard."
"That's so cool, try again to see if answers." Itsuka was looking at them and see Melissa typing "My name is Melissa!" at the keyboard and see that she got another answer.
"Hello Melissa, are you my creator?"They see the answer and Melissa looks at Izuku and Mei, the three yell again and high-five each other celebrating.
"That's amazing, you guys made amazing progress in such a short time!" Neito pats Izuku back, they really did it.
"Answer her, him? It's waiting!" Katsumi points at the screen.
"Yeah, right!" Melissa starts typing "I am one of them." and wait to see if she gets another answer.
"What are the names of the others?" they look at the screen and their tiredness went away.
"Now we can work on building the body and preparing it to show at the sports festival." Setsuna can already see herself riding a mecha tyrannosaurus with an intimidating voice.
"I can't wait to see our parent's reactions." Shoto wasn't good with technology, but even he can see that this was impressive.
"Let me reply here." Melissa starts typing. "The others are Izuku and Mei." and it was interesting to see this conversation.
"Are they here?"Melissa answer "Yes." and got surprised to see how well it was progressing.
"We need to build a body soon, must be boring to just keep answering like that." Yui points at the screen.
"It can feel bored?" Reiko asks with a raised brow.
"I have no idea, but maybe is possible." Juzo has to admit that he was curious about it.
"Let me talk with our baby a little." Mei pushes Melissa to the side and starts typing. "Hey baby, I am your mother Mei, Melissa is your other mother, and Izuku is your father."
The others roll their eyes at Mei, it wasn't the first time she said something like this.
"So I shouldn't call you creators, but father and mothers?" Mei squeak at that, the other couldn't help laughing since Izuku and Melissa got embarrassed.
"I-I can't believe it, aunt Inko always talks about grandchildren and you made one of metal?" Katsumi was laughing a lot with that.
"And you did with Mei and Melissa, did you guys have a threesome?" Setsuna's joke only made both redder, Mei just ignored them and kept typing.
Mei was excited to build the body, she decide to try something and starts typing "We will make a body for you, do you have any preference?"
"I don't know? I must know the purpose of my existence first, then determine what body suits better for it." They look at each other, it was clear that this needs to be thought carefully.
"We want to build it to help us save lives, but it feels wrong to say that, right?" Itsuka looks around and sees that they agree with her.
"Let's make a humanoid body and then let her decide what want to do." Izuku knows it will be complicated, but he won't give up.
"You are right, but let's continue tomorrow. It's late and we need rest." Inasa knows they would want to spend the whole night here, but they have school tomorrow.
"Okay, greenie, give me our firstborn." Izuku takes off the device at his wrist and gives it to Mei, she plugs it on the computer. "I will transfer our baby to your device, we will have shared custody."
"Why me? I know you want it." Izuku was surprised that Mei wasn't trying to get to her house.
"Because I know that if I take home, I won't sleep tonight and probably will skip school too." Mei knows that she can't control herself, she starts typing "I will transfer you to Izuku device, we will go home now so we don't want you to be lonely."
"I appreciate your concern, so I will be with father?" They couldn't help laughing at Izuku's embarrassment.
"Am I so tired that I am hallucinating or have I heard Mei being worried about her sleep and school?" Melissa looks at her friend with a raised brow.
"Don't get used to it." Mei finishes transferring and gives back the device to Izuku. "Take care of our baby."
"I will, should I read a story before she sleeps?" Izuku chuckled at his own joke while the others laughed.
They said goodbye and went home, Izuku "Talks" with the AI the whole way back home. For anyone outside, it looks like he is talking with a friend, but he was excited to see how it will progress. Izuku went to sleep and left his device charging, he didn't want to risk turning off and losing their progress.
While he slept, the AI was examining his archives to learn more about their creator.
I gotta say, the manga is being kinda weird since the beginning of the war arc, some things didn't make sense. Well, I see you all next time.
