Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters or the plots of star wars! I hope you enjoy and would love to hear your reviews!
A/N: A lot of speculation on Luke - Luke is not born yet. I know some may not take to this well given the love for Star Wars and the twins, but I have a great idea for this story and Luke's role, so I ask you to be patient and I hope you all really enjoy my ideas and what I do with the characters.
I appreciate the reviews so much - it inspires me to keep writing!
9 BBY - Coruscant
It had been a month, Padme was 8 months pregnant and Leia had just turned 10. Anakin had celebrated with his family, a whole decade of his sweet little girl and now he was getting ready for his second child, whom he hoped was a boy but he was excited either way. Those nightmares hadn't stopped, in fact they had gotten so much worse and he was struggling to keep his cool. He walked out of meditation and to the senate building where he was to attend some duties, but was stopped by the Chancellor who was serving longer than anyone would have expected, well into his 70's by now.
"Something bothering you Master Skywalker?" He asked, he had a great relationship with Anakin and could tell when something was on his mind.
"Nothing of great concern Chancellor." He reassured him.
"Come on now Anakin, I am old enough and wise enough to know the face of a troubled man." He said with a grin, a reassuring friendly one though. Anakin clenched his jaw and looked around before sighing softly, "Just nightmares my lord." He said softly.
"I thought the Jedi don't get nightmares?"
"They don't, which is why I am more concerned about them being premonitions." Anakin admitted.
"These dreams, they are off suffering? Death?" He asked curiously, "A war?"
Anakin looked down slightly, "Someone close to me, they are in pain, suffering. Nothing of a war my lord. I am sure it is just a dream." He said, "I must go." He said before walking away, he had already let too much slip.
Meetings after meetings was all it felt like today but Obi Wan was picking up Anakin's feelings. "Is everything alright? You are on edge." Obi Wan asked his former Padawan.
"I am fine, Master." Anakin said softly.
"You are sure?" He asked, not so convinced.
Anakin swallowed hard, "Do you not feel an unease Master? The galaxy has been at peace for almost a decade now, I fear something is nearing." Anakin asked, though he was a Jedi master himself, he still looked to Obi Wan for guidance and support.
Obi Wan swallowed hard, "I do…I hoped it would not be true, that I was thinking too much into my own feelings but it is not just you and I that feel this unease Anakin. Perhaps it is time we call the scattered Jedi back to the temple." Obi Wan added.
"Then I wish for senator Amidala and her youngling to be brought back to Coruscant, it is much safer and easier for me to ensure their safety if they are closer." Anakin said softly.
"I'm afraid that you will need to convince the senator yourself, you know she is rather stubborn at times." Obi Wan added.
"This may prove to be my hardest mission yet." He teased, "I will make my way to Naboo now and return shortly. Keep me updated." They bowed their heads to one another, neither having any idea that it would be Anakin's fall that they were all sensing.
Naboo
"Anakin? What are you doing here?" Padme asked, not expecting to see him so soon. Happy of course, but it just came as a surprise. "Where is Leia?" He asked looking around, "She is out with her cousins, what is wrong?" She asked, seeing the concerned look on his face, moving her hands to his chest. "You must pack up your things, you and Leia are to return to the penthouse on Coruscant." He said simply.
"What? Why?" Padme asked, confused.
"Just do it." he asked in no mood to really argue.
"Anakin, you cannot demand such things and not give any explanation." She said moving her hand to her 8 month bump.
He let out a sigh and relaxed his clenched jaw slightly, "The Jedi feel something nearing, something dangerous. It is making us all uneasy. I am required on Coruscant for a while now, all the Jedi are to return which means I can't make sure you are safe here." He said looking at her, "You need to return to Coruscant, I can ensure both your safety that way." He told her softly.
"Anakin, we can't just up and leave. This is our home, Leia's school is here, her friends." Padme argued back - this is where they clashed because they were both so stubborn.
"None of that is important right now Padme, what is important is your safety!" Anakin responded, a little annoyed.
"Her education is not important?!"
"That's not what I meant, she can go to a school on Coruscant, or we'll hire her a private tutor for her to be homeschooled. The point is, you are coming to Coruscant end of." Anakin told her, pacing slightly clenching his jaw. No one could wind him up as much as Padme, but no one could soothe him as much as Padme so he was quite controlled with her.
She arched her brow looking at him, "And do you have any evidence that something is going to arise?!"
"The fact that the entire council feels it should be enough evidence." He said simply. "I am not saying this has to be permanent, it is just for now, until we know what is happening." He added again.
Padme clenched her jaw and stayed silent for a second, "Fine! But do not think for one second I am happy about this and I am not going to be the one to tell Leia. I wish you the best of luck." She said storming off. She was tired and sore, aching and a few weeks away from giving birth. Anakin rolled his eyes at his wife's stubbornness before pacing, waiting for Leia.
Eventually, she arrived home. "Daddy!" She yelled with a smile hugging him tightly.
"Hi baby girl." He smiled, hugging her back, "Sit down, we must discuss something." He said softly as they sat on the sofa.
"Is everything okay?" She asked worriedly.
"Your mother and you must return to Coruscant, just for now. The Jedi fear something bad is going to happen and I cannot keep either of you safe if you are on another planet. It is what is best for now." He said softly.
"But I don't want to live on Coruscant." She said simply.
"It is only for now Leia, sometimes we must do things that are required of us, even if we don't want it or disagree." Anakin tried to convince her.
"No! I won't go, my friends are here! There are no trees for me to climb on Coruscant, I hate it there! I'm not going to go!" She said firmly.
"Leia, you don't really have a choice in the matter." He said simply too, the whole family was stubborn but Leia and Anakin were exactly like each other.
"No one ever cares what I want!" She told him. "I'm not going to go there! I'll run away!" She said before jumping up and running out of the door. "Leia!" He called out after her knowing she wouldn't go too far.
"She's your daughter." Padme told him in a very 'Told you so' way. Anakin just sighed and ran his hand through his hair, giving her some time before going to find her.
Seeing her at the top of a tree he looked up, "Leia are you going to come down?" He called up to her. She was having a tantrum so very much had furrowed brows, a pout and a cross expression. Ignoring her father, he rolled his eyes. "Fine." He told himself before climbing up the tree too and going to sit on the branch in front of her. "Leia, you know I don't want to take you away from your home, but I have to keep you safe. It is only for now." he said softly. Leia just continued to pout and looked at him, causing him to chuckle. "You remind me of your mother when you pout like that." He said softly, "You can't stay mad at me forever." He told her again, "I'm not mad at you." Leia reassured him.
"Sure seems like it."
She let out a sigh before sitting up properly and letting go of the leaf she was peeling apart. "I'm not angry at you. I just don't want to go because…well because…"
"Because what?" Anakin asked, rather interested.
"Because if we go there, I can't be your daughter and you can't be my daddy and I don't like when you can't be my dad." She said a little sad, it broke his heart slightly.
"Oh Leia, come here." he said, opening his arms for her. She moved into his arms and he held her close, "I am always going to be your father, no matter what. No matter where we are, what happens, or how far apart we are from each other, I am always going to be your dad." He said softly. "Nothing will ever change that." He whispered again, feeling her wrap her arms around him tightly.
"But we have to be extra careful which means I don't get to do this with you as much." She said softly, his fall would kill her, but her responsibilities would push all her feelings aside.
"I hate the fact we won't be able to do this too, but I promise you I will find a way to spend time with you."
"Okay." She smiled softly, "What can I even do on Coruscant? I'll be so bored." She said with an eye roll.
"Well, your mother will be having the baby soon and she's going to need you to be the best big sister you can be. I'm trusting you to take care of your mom and sibling, especially when I can't be there." he smiled.
"I know, I will always protect them, I promise." She smiled.
"That's my girl." He said softly, "Now come on, let's go pack your things." he said softly climbing down with her.
What little Leia did not know was that all she had left with her parents was 4 weeks. 4 weeks until she and the galaxy was left devastated. Just 4 tiny weeks.
