9 BBY - Coruscant

"Will you look at that Leia, that is your little brother or sister all ready to meet you." Padme smiled at her daughter as they sat in the medical room for her last examination before she was due to give birth. "Wow…" Leia said it was amazing every single time she came to one of these appointments, she could never get over it and it was always like seeing if for the first time.

Padme chuckled at her response as the medical droid cleaned her up and they left. "Do they have any names yet mom?" She asked walking with her, "Nyra if it is a girl and Luke for a boy." She smiled softly, "I like those names." Leia said with a smile, "Me too." Padme chuckled. "Now let's go get some food shall we?" she asked her daughter, who nodded rather enthusiastically as she got into the ship.

As they flew, Anakin appeared through as a hologram on her dashboard. "How did it go? Is everything okay?" Anakin asked his wife, "Everything is perfect, the baby is beautiful and big, though I think they'll be making us wait a little while longer." She chuckled. Leia smiled playing with Lola as she let her parents talk. "I'm glad, I should be able to come home this evening." He smiled softly. "I can't wait to see you." Padme said softly. "Nor can I." He smiled, "I love you." He added, "I love you too." Padme said before they disconnected the call knowing it couldn't go on for long.

Once again, Anakin had a disrupted sleep, it was awful, the dreams were getting worse, more vivid and in more detail and it was killing him. He shot up once more and went to sit out on the balcony, Padme followed him. "Ani?" She asked softly, keeping quiet to try and not wake Leia. "Go back to bed Padme." He said softly, "Don't shut me out, what's bothering you?" She asked softly. "Nothing." He said simply. Padme just looked at him and moved to stand in front of him, her hands on his bare chest. "Anakin please talk to me…let me help you." She whispered. He looked down at her hands before back up to her, looking at the jappor snipped around her neck, smiling softly, "There is a new General in charge of the droid army, General Grievous." He said softly, "And he serves a master, he goes by the name of Emperor but we have no idea of his whereabouts or who he is, or how powerful he is." Anakin said softly.

"But that is not what is bothering you?" She asked softly, she understood him like no one else.

"No." He whispered. "I had a nightmare, or a premonition I'm not sure." He said softly, obviously distressed from it.

"What about?" She asked her fingers tracing his skin, soothing him slightly. He looked at her and just stared for a second, she could see the fear in his eyes.

"You die in childbirth.." He whispered, clenching his jaw, hating that he finally admitted it.

"And the baby?" she asked, of course her concern was with the baby.

"I don't know."

"It was just a dream, Anakin." She said softly, stroking his arms.

"I won't let this one become real, not like my mother." He told her simply.

"I'm not going to die in childbirth, I promise you." She told him.

"No, I promise you." He said back, holding onto the side of her neck. He couldn't lose her, he absolutely could not lose her.

The following days Anakin had reached out to Yoda about these dreams, about his fears of not being able to control his feelings. Yoda had soothed his mind for a second but the minute the session was over his mind became clouded again. What was worse, Obi Wan had just told him he was leaving to find Grievous in his hideout on Utapau and the council had asked Anakin to spy on the chancellor which was treason in its highest form. He was so conflicted at this very moment and it was killing him.

"You are still having these dreams aren't you?" Palpatine asked Anakin as they sat in his office together.

"I cannot shake them, Chancellor. It is clouding my vision and I must see clearly if we are to defeat Grievous and find the Emperor." Anakin said softly.

"I have no doubt in you Master Skywalker, you are the greatest Jedi to have ever lived. It is a shame the council does not treat you as though you are." This was all part of the chancellor's plan to reel Anakin in.

"What do you mean?" Anakin asked, confused.

"Forcing you to spy on me does not seem like the most appropriate mission for a Jedi who is responsible for the end of the clone wars."

Anakin swallowed hard, "I am not here to spy on you my Lord, though you are correct. They did ask it off me." He really had no idea why he was opening up to him so much.

"I do not blame you Anakin. I understand their suspicion, why else would I be serving for this long?" He said simply, Anakin looked up at him.

"You are a great leader who has brought great success to this galaxy. It is only right that you stay in power." Anakin said honestly, that was what he truly believed.

"And so your conflict lies only within these dreams?" He asked curiously.

"Yes."

"What if I told you I could help you?"

"Help me?" Anakin asked, things were starting to feel a little strange.

"I know a power beyond what the Jedi council allows you to know, a power so great it could stop the ones you love from dying." Anakin's eyes lit up.

"There is no such power, the Jedi would have told me."

"They do not trust you with such powers, but I can assure you. I will teach you what it is you need to know."

"How do you know so much about this?" He asked, getting a little suspicious.

"My old mentor taught me everything there was to know about leadership, the force and even the darkside."

Anakin began pacing slightly at his words, a little suspicious. "Stick with me Anakin and I can teach you a power so great that you can prevent your wife from certain death." Palpatine added again.

"What?" Anakin asked before clicking on, "You are the Emperor, the one we have been searching for?!" He asked, instantly withdrawing his lightsaber.

"Turn me in if you wish, strike me down if that is what you desire most…but without my guidance, all chances of saving Padme will be lost." He said simply. "You will leave Leia without a mother…" He added once more.

Anakin clenched his jaw, this was hard to hear, he didn't know what to do. "I must report you!" He said simply, "I…" He was so conflicted.

"As you wish, Anakin.." He said simply before going to sit down. "But remember, the Jedi cannot save her…only I can teach you the ways of the dark side and a power like never before." He said with a smirk.

Anakin clenched his jaw before running off the council to report it.

This was the start of a devastating path.
