9 BBY - Coruscant

She could see the smoke from across the city, from her penthouse window, the smoke coming from the Jedi temple as she heard the news of the Jedi turning against the senate and how they all had to be hunted down and executed due to treason. She feared for the lives of her friends, for Obi-Wan, for her husband. Something about this felt wrong, so very wrong. She kept Leia hidden from it all, kept her in her room but it was hard since she was a curious young one and was also so worried about her father. Padme soon became distracted from her thoughts when she saw Anakin's pod docking on the platform. Running to him, "Anakin!" She called to him, wrapping her arms around him tightly. "I was so worried about you, what is going on?" She asked concerned, unaware that her little one was close by and listening. "The Jedi tried to overthrow the chancellor, it was a plot that I was blinded by." He said simply, the darkness having already clouded his mind as he held his wife securely. "And what of Obi-Wan? Surely he would do no such thing." Padme asked, so worried. Anakin clenched his jaw, "His fate now rests on his loyalty." He said softly, "And yours?" Padme asked again, she couldn't piece any of this together, it just didn't make sense. "My loyalty is to the senate, to the Chancellor and to you…It is why I must go." He said softly.

"Go? Go where?" She asked, this was breaking her heart as she held onto his arms tightly.

"To Mustafar, I am going to put an end to all of this. Stay here and when I return we will live the life we have always wanted back home on Naboo, with our children." He said softly with a smile, playing with her hair.

"Anakin…I'm frightened." She whispered out.

"Don't be. Have faith, my love…I promised you I will protect you. I must go." He said pulling her into a hug before leaving as quickly as he arrived. Padme felt tears in her eyes and her breathing becoming sharper as she watched him go, she felt sick to her stomach.

Padme headed back inside and cradled her bump, chewing at her thumb unsure what to do, how to feel, something was wrong. Terribly wrong. "Momma?" Padme's thoughts were distracted when she heard the concerned voice of her daughter who was standing on the step to the bedrooms after overhearing everything. Leia was strong like Anakin, strong in the force and she could feel it, in the pit of her stomach though she did not understand it. "Yes baby?" Padme asked, trying to pretend as if everything was okay.

"Something is really wrong, really really wrong. I can feel it, I feel it here." she said simply, holding her hand just above her stomach. Her voice had a hint of fear in it, but concern, worry, confusion. She was just a child.

"No, everything will be alright. There is conflict but it will be fixed, I promise you." She said softly trying to reassure her but Leia continued to shake her head.

"No mama, you don't understand." she said softly, "What don't I understand?" Padme asked, confused as she bent down to her level.

"That man looked like daddy, but he didn't feel like him. That man you were talking to wasn't my father…" She whispered. Padme went pale and swallowed hard, those words hit her hard because she saw it too, she just didn't want to believe it. "Let's just get some rest." She said softly.

The following morning, Obi Wan had paid a visit to Padme. "Obi Wan, I am so glad you are alright." Padme said softly walking towards him when she saw him.

"I came to see if you knew where Anakin was, I must find him." He already knew, he had figured it all out.

"I haven't seen him since yesterday, he told me he was going to put an end to all of this…" She paused looking at him. "Obi Wan, what is happening?" She asked, concerned.

"Anakin has turned to the dark side." it broke him to say that, "He was deceived by a lie, we all were." He added. He could literally feel Padme's heartbreak.

"No, it's not true. I can't believe that. I won't."

"You must.." He said softly. "He is responsible for the attack on the temple, the killings of the Jedi of younglings…I watched it all on security cams. It kills me to say it but I must find him Padme." He told her, and almost begged her.

Padme's mouth stays open, speechless, heartbroken. "You're going to kill him aren't you?." She whispered, looking at him. He didn't say anything, he didn't need to. "I can't.." She whispered out again, her gut was to the floor, she felt so sick.

Obi Wan knew what he must do and went and stood up to leave before stopping, "Anakin is their father isn't he?" He asked, Padme's expression told him it all. "I'm so sorry…" He said softly before leaving. Padme just broke down in tears and Anakin could feel her pain, after he brutally murdered the sepratists, he had stood, hooded, reflecting on everything and letting out a tear himself. He knew what he was doing was wrong but he had no choice, he had to save Padme.

"Leia, you must listen to me. I need you to go with Bail Organa for now. He will keep you safe, I have to find your father." Leia told her daughter as Bail arrived at her penthouse.

"But I want to stay with you, momma please." She said, clinging to her mother. It was hard for her not to break down.

"I know my darling, but you have to be brave, you have to do this for me okay? I will be home before you know it and we will go back to Naboo where we will be safe. I promise you." She said softly.

"Momma please." Leia said, holding onto her.

"Come on now, where is my brave girl? I'll come back to you soon. Please just be brave, for me." She whispered.

Leia swallowed hard, "Okay momma…okay. You promise you'll come home to me?" She asked sadly.

"I promise." She whispered, kissing her forehead. "I love you so much Leia, don't ever forget it."

"I love you too." Leia said sadly.

"Come on now, let's get you going." She whispered.

Saying goodbye to Leia was the hardest thing she would ever have to do, but it was necessary. She had to stop Anakin, she had to save him before it was too late.
