9 BBY - Mustafar

"What are you doing out here? Where is Leia?" Anakin asked his wife as she stood on the landing bay on Mustafar, "She's safe." Padme told him, just relieved to be back in his arms. "I was worried about you, Obi Wan told me terrible things." She whispered out.

"What things?" He asked a little annoyed at the name of his former master.

"That you'd turned to the dark side, killed younglings.." Padme said, her voice so broken and scared.

Anakin clenched his jaw slightly, looking at her, "Obi Wan is trying to turn you against me."

She swallowed hard looking at him, "Come home with me, Anakin. Come back to Naboo, help me raise our children." she whispered, moving her hand to the back of his head.

"We don't have to hide anymore Padme, we can live freely. I have become the most powerful Jedi to have ever lived, no one can stop us from living the way we have always wanted." He said with a menacing smirk.

"Anakin, this doesn't sound like you. Please, just stop this now. Come home to me, to your daughter." She begged. "All I want is your love."

"Love won't save you Padme, only my new powers can do that." he said simply.

"It is not me who needs saving, why can't you see that?!" She begged, she felt her husband slipping away and it was killing her. He was getting angry.

"The Jedi turned against me! Don't you turn against me!" he said, his tone harsh, scary.

"Obi Wan can help us, he cares about us…please Anakin."

"Us?"

"He knows."

"I don't want to hear anymore about Obi Wan, he has turned against me." He said simply. "Once the destruction of the Jedi order is complete, we can live freely, with a power like no other. We can rule the galaxy side by side.." He said with a smirk.

It was at this moment she knew he was truly lost, believing everything she didn't want to believe. Letting tears fill up in her eyes, taking a few steps back from him. "I don't know you anymore, Anakin…" She said in a shaky voice. "You're going down a path I can't follow."

"Because of Obi Wan?" Anakin asked, having noticed him on her ship.

"Because of what you've done! What you plan to do, stop, stop now! I love you!" She yelled in a broken hearted beg.

"LIAR!" He yelled pacing back and forth, Padme flinched and turned to where he was looking, seeing Obi Wan. "No!" she yelled in pure fear and panic. This was the first time she was truly scared of her husband. "You're with him! You've brought him here to kill me!" He yelled, before she knew it, her hands were around her throat, choking herself. But it was him, the man she loved most, who was choking her. She could hear the muffled sounds of the two Jedi talking but all she could focus on was him, her heart breaking, it was too much for her. "Anakin…" She begged as a tear fell down her face. Then it all went black.

She woke up in Polis Massa, in pain, terrible pain. The droids had to deliver her baby now because they were distressed. Obi Wan by her side as she cried and screamed out in pain. This wasn't just the pain of childbirth, no, this was the pain of a woman who had just lost her husband not even to death. She barely had the energy to push, but she powered through until she had heard the sounds of her newborn's cry. Bail had kept Leia in another room to keep her away from all of this, but Leia could sense it all, her father's fall, her mothers dying form, this was a lot for her. "Luke…" Padme whispered as she was met with her baby boy, he was beautiful, in the arms of Obi Wan, though it should have been Anakin's. "My boy…my sweet boy." She whispered, stroking his cheek. She knew she couldn't hold on much longer, her heart was too broken and more tears fell down her cheek. "Obi Wan…please, look after my children." She whispered out. "Padme, no. You have to hold on Padme." He said sadly. "There is good in him, I know…there's..still good in…him…" She whispered out before falling into a sleep she would never wake up from. Leia felt it and dropped to the floor. Anakin felt it, as she was fitted with his new machine suit, "Padme…" He whispered out.

"What are we going to do?" Obi Wan asked Yoda and Bail as they sat in the small room, Leia with a nurse to distract her whilst Luke was being taken care of in the nursery. Padme had died, he believed he had killed Anakin, the galaxy was left in such pain, such devastation, such shock and Obi Wan felt for those now orphaned children. "Into Exile we must all go." Yoda said simply. "And the children? What of them?" Bail asked. "In danger they are. Hidden they must be." Yoda added. "I will go into exile with them on Tatooine, become nobodies. The Emperor cannot know of their existence, that Leia is still alive." Obi Wan said, before a nurse rushed in. "Master! She has taken the ship. Leia has taken the ship…with the newborn." She said in a panic. They all darted up, "She's gone?!" Obi Wan asked in panic. "Find them we must!" Yoda said simply before they left.

A 10 year old Leia put the ship into autopilot - she was a great pilot like her father. Sinking to the floor, her newborn baby brother in her knees before she just burst into tears, burying her face into his tiny stomach. She had lost her mother and her father, she was 10 years old, she was scared and she had to take care of her baby brother, just like she had promised her father. She was smart, she knew she had to hide, she knew she would forever be on the run, but she could not let anything happen to Luke, she wouldn't, for her mother. Wiping her tears she looked to her brother who had opened his eyes, she had no idea how to do this, she was just a child herself. "It's just you and me now.." she whispered, "But I promise you. I will protect you, I will always protect you." She whispered.

Though her love for her father was so strong, she now resented him for what he had done, for taking her mother, for taking away her father, for all of it. Though she was only 10 years old, she knew now what her role was and she took a vow to herself that they were going to survive, because she was a Skywalker, she was strong, she was a fighter and she was a survivor and she was not going to let anyone hurt them, never again.

She placed Luke in a basket in the co-pilot seat and strapped him up properly, before taking control of the ship again and darting off into the lightspeed, arriving at the outer rim systems, far away from the devastation that she had left behind, devastation her father had caused. Leia's life now was nothing like she knew before, everything had changed.
