4 ABY - Temple Island, Ahch - To.
It had been 3 whole weeks since they arrived on Ahch-To. Ben had been teaching them the ways of the force because if there was any chance of them defeating the empire and saving their father it was through the force. Ben knew that Vader would have been storming the galaxy searching for them, he knew they wouldn't be able to hide for long so the training had to move quickly and intensely.
"Very good Luke, now…attempt to strike your sister down." Ben told Luke. It was pouring with rain but the humidity kept it warm, so they were all soaked - well Ben was very much under covers. Leia arched her brow, they had not been given lightsabers yet - hadn't even been introduced to it. Ben wanted to see their general defense skills first.
"What?" Luke asked, "No…I'm not going to hit my…" Luke was cut off by Leia who had swooped her staff under his feet, knocking him to the floor and holding it against his chest. She was much like Anakin when it came to not thinking and just doing, she was not afraid to strike.
""The Jedi show mercy, though there are times in which we must be prepared to fight. To do things we don't always agree with." Ben said to them both as Leia helped her brother up. "If you show too much mercy you have already lost." He said simply, Leia smirked at her brother nudging him. "But if you attack at the wrong moment, you also have lost." He said looking to Leia, who was then nudged back by Luke.
"It is about finding the balance. Knowing when it is time to be on the defense or offense." Ben said softly.
"The difference between being reactive." Luke said softly.
"And proactive." Leia added.
"Precisely." Ben smiled at the two siblings. "Now, let us try that again. Focus, concentrate. Let the force guide you. Only in the right moments will it guide you and only then will you have your success." He said softly, before watching them.
Luke closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to tap into the force as best he could. Leia didn't close her eyes but controlled her breathing - it was strange to see how they both connected to the force yet so differently. Strange to see how they both used similar techniques to Anakin. Luke in his movements, Leia in her willingness to fight, to strike and get struck. This took Ben back to his training with Anakin.
"Excellent Anakin. Now, quicker this time." Obi Wan told his 15 year old Padawan who had picked it up much quicker than most.
"Master, can we use lightsabers this time?!" An eager Anakin had asked, standing up straight and holding the staff up.
"Do you think you are ready?!" Obi Wan asked.
"Do you?" Anakin asked back.
"I have felt you have been ready for some time Anakin, it was your trust in yourself that I have been waiting for. If you believe you are ready then yes, we can continue with lightsabers." Obi Wan smiled, going to get Anakin his very own. Anakin's eyes lit up as he ignited his green lightsaber, a lightsaber he would reconstruct into blue.
"I am ready, Master." He smirked, holding his position before the pair fought.
He watched as the siblings fought, using all the skills he had shown them, using the force to move things from one place to another, to trust their intuitions, to allow it to guide them, all of it. Though they would perfect the skills with more practice, time was their enemy and it wouldn't be long before they had to face their father once more - this time, in a more conflicting manner.
"Get some rest, you have done well." He said to them both. The siblings quickly head inside to rest, eat and whatever else it was they needed to do.
"You are training them well, Obi-Wan." A voice called from behind him, Ben turned his head and saw the force ghost of his older master. He was shocked to see him.
"Master Qui-Gon?" He asked in disbelief.
"I sense that you fear failure, Obi-Wan, but there is something very important that you are forgetting." Qui-gon said, walking towards him.
"What is it?" He asked curiously.
"The love a parent possess…even in darkness its influence is far greater." He said going to sit next to his former padawan.
Ben clenched his jaw, "I cannot fail them Master. Not like I failed Anakin, I cannot." He whispered, it was clear how harshly Anakin's fall was treating him, even after all these years.
"And you will not." Qui-Gon said simply.
"How can you be so sure, Master?" He asked, looking at him.
"You know it to be true Obi-Wan, search your feelings, what is it that you feel?"
Ben closed his eyes and took a deep breath as he tried to concentrate. "I feel…peace." He whispered.
"For the first time, I feel peace." He whispered again.
"It appears you already have your answer." Qui-Gon said standing up, "Have faith my Padawan, you have done well and I am very proud." He said softly before fading away.
"Do you think we'll have to kill him?" Luke asked, laying on the bed looking up at the stone ceiling. Leia swallowed hard and looked back at him.
"I will not kill him." She said softly.
"Do you think he will kill us?" He asked again, the mature for his age he was still only 16.
"If he wanted us dead we would be." She said softly. "What he wants us for, I do not know." She admitted.
Luke sat up and looked at her, "What was he like, Leia?" He asked his sister. She swallowed hard and bit her cheek slightly, it was hard remembering her father, she missed him so much.
"He was…" She paused as she tried to find the words, "Everything." She added again as her mind trailed off.
"He was smart, he knew everything and everything about engineering a lot like you." she smiled.
"Padme it is a reactor, if we put it here it will…well react." Anakin told his wife. Leia watched as they looked at the broken generator. "I've got this, don't worry."
Leia saw flashbacks in her head at every word she spoke.
"He was kind."
"Here, let me help you." Anakin said to an elderly woman who was struggling to carry her heavy bags in the streets of Naboo.
"He was gentle."
"Daddy it hurts!" Leia cried out as he sat her on the kitchen table , attending to her scraped and bleeding knee.
"I'm going to help make it feel better okay?" He said softly, taking her leg gently. "First we have to clean it and then we can give it the magic touch."
"The magic touch?"
"Yes, are you ready?" He asked as he gently cleaned her leg. Leia nodded her head and Anakin smiled, giving it a gentle blow and kiss before putting a plaster over it, soothing the pain with the force. "There all better." He smiled softly.
"He was brave."
"He loved us so much." She whispered as a small tear fell down her face.
All three of them lay in bed together, Padme on her back as Anakin and Leia lay on their stomachs, watching Padme's bump. "Oh look daddy, it's moving." Leia giggled seeing her mothers stomach move slightly. Anakin smiled, placing a gentle kiss against his wife's belly. "It's beautiful huh?" He asked with a smile, looking at his little girl. Leia nodded her hand, moving her hand to her mothers stomach. Anakin watched in awe. " I could never begin to explain the love I have for you." He whispered , referring to them all.
Leia wiped her eyes, she hadn't realized the tears had stained her cheeks. "He never let me see his struggles, his sadness, though I know momma did. He was the best person in the entire galaxy, he was the air I breathed, the light of my life. He was my whole world and I loved him so much." She whispered, swallowing hard before needing to leave.
Leia left the hut quickly and moved to the top of the stone, overlooking the endless views of water surrounding them. Dropping to her knees she let out a sob, "I miss you." She whispered out, gripping the dirt in her hand. "I miss you!" she yelled into the air, crying out once more. Everything she had been holding onto for 16 years was coming out, it was finally coming out and she was mourning the death of her mother and the loss of her father, her best friend.
