"Jellal, what are you doing here?"
Erza asked sounding confused and concerned as she looked at the blue-haired man standing outside her home.
She was about to go to bed when she heard some noises from the front door which sounded like someone was trying to unlock the doorknob. She seized an umbrella before going to the front door to identify the potential intruder through the peephole, but threw the weapon aside immediately and opened the door after seeing that it was her boyfriend who tried to barge into her home.
Jellal was holding a ring of keys in his right hand and clutching the door flame with his left hand to support himself. His face was tainted with the shade of rosy red which extended up to his ears and down to his neck and his half-lidded eyes was a bit red too.
"Erza?" He looked at his girlfriend with a puzzled face. "Why are you in my home?"
Erza's eyes widened incredulously.
"This is my home!"
Jellal blinked slowly as if he was trying hard to process Erza's words in his head.
"Oh, r-really?" He put the keys back in his trousers' pocket and rubbed his eyes. "I-um, I'm sorry. Bye."
Withdrawing his hand from the door flame, he stumbled back and turned around to leave.
"Hey, Jellal, wait!" Erza quickly grabbed his arm. He had told her earlier that he and his team would celebrate the completion of the project which they had been working for a year in a pub tonight and apparently he had drunk a bit too much in the party. She couldn't take the risks of him wandering in the street or trying to open the door to God knew whose home again in his half-conscious state. "You are drunk. Come in and take a rest in my place tonight."
"No need. I-" He hiccupped. "I-I'm not drunk."
"You are." Erza said firmly and pulled Jellal with her to go inside her home. The man didn't resist anymore and simply followed his girlfriend like a puppy following its' master.
Erza led Jellal to the living room and instructed him to sit down on the crouch before going to get a wet towel and also a glass of water for him. When she returned, however, he had lied down on the crouch and had his eyes closed. But his unsteady breathing and the frown on his forehead were proofs that he hadn't fallen into unconscious yet. She put down the glass of water on the side table and sat down at the edge of the crouch beside him. She then removed his tie and undid the first three buttons of his shirt.
Feeling the coolness on his forehead, Jellal half opened his eyes to look at his girlfriend who was gently pressing the wet towel against his forehead. She then repeated the action on his cheeks and his neck before placing the fabric on his forehead once more. He could feel the heat swirling in his head caused by the excessive alcohol running in his blood dropped a little bit, which seemed to slightly lighten his headache too.
A smile crept over his lips while he reached out a hand to grab Erza by her wrist.
"You need anything?"
Jellal shook his head and raised his other hand to caress Erza's cheek with his fingers. He hadn't seen her for two weeks because he was crazily busy with the final stage of the project.
"I miss you." He slurred with a horsed voice.
Erza chuckled lightly. It warmed her heart to know that Jellal was thinking of her even in his drunken state.
"I miss you too." She tenderly brushed his blue locks with her fingers and he seemed to relish in her touch as he let his hand slide down from her face, slowly closing his eyes again. Thinking that she should also get him a blanket so that he wouldn't get a cold while dozing off, she stood up and withdrew her hand from his grip. However, he didn't let her go but yanked her back to his side and snaked an arm around her wrist to pull her down against his chest.
"Don't leave me."
"I'm just going to-"
"Please don't leave me." He interrupted her, holding her tighter. The smell of alcohol mixed with his body scent filled her nostrils. "Even…I don't…deserve you. Even you are…too good for me. I can't…I can't…let you go. I love you. I'll do…anything…anything for you. Just…stay…by my side. Don't leave me, Erza."
It made Erza's heart ache a little to hear Jellal begging for her to stay in spite of the deep affection expressed in his words. Since she met him again a year ago after seven years of separation, she had tried to convince him to accept her love, to accept that he had the right to love her despite that he had unintentionally hurt her in the past because she had forgiven him. It wasn't until three months ago that her effort finally paid off when he asked her to be his girlfriend. She had believed that he had buried their bad history in the past and moved on but now it seemed that she was wrong. He must still feel the guilt for hurting her deep in his heart, or he wouldn't be afraid of her leaving him because he wasn't good enough for her.
"I love you too, Jellal. I won't leave you. And don't look down on yourself. You are the perfect one for me." She comforted him while deciding that they needed another talk about their relationship when he sobered up, since he probably wouldn't remember what she told him in his current state.
"You are the…perfect one…for me." Jellal responded, which caused Erza to smile a little even though she wasn't sure if her boyfriend was unconsciously telling her his real thought again or was simply repeating after her.
They then fell into silence. Having her upper body lying on top of Jellal's torso and being secured in his arm, Erza patiently waited for Jellal to fall in sleep instead of trying to get away from his hold. It didn't take long for her to hear him snoring. She ever so gently and cautiously moved his arm away from her waist and got to her feet; sighing in relief seeing that she hadn't woke him up.
She tossed the wet towel in her hand on the side table and went to her bedroom. When she came out again and returned to Jellal's side, a blanket was held in her hands. She took off Jellal's shoes and socks before covering his body with the blanket, and then kissed him softly on the forehead.
"Goodnight and have a nice dream."
