A/N: This was written in response to someone who asked me "How would Erza react if Jellal died?" on Tumblr.
"We couldn't find his body but his left arm after the explosion. We buried the limb already." Cobra told Erza, holding out his hands with a piece of cloth lying on his palms. "This is the only thing left from him. We thought that you would want to keep it."
Shakily, Erza stretched her right hand out slowly to that piece of cloth. Her hand froze in the air when her fingertips was only a centimeter away from it as if there was an invisible wall preventing her hand from reaching out further to touch the item on Cobra's palms; but she finally grabbed the material hesitantly after a few seconds.
Pulling back her hand, Erza looked down at the long bloodstained army green fabric trimmed with a line of white hearts and with a yellow turnup at one of its' ends. She remembered that it was once attached to the coat wore by Jellal. It was one of the long sleeves from his coat. More precisely, it would be the left sleeve, she knew.
She felt her strengths rush out her body all of a sudden; her legs gave out and she dropped to her knees. Her body trembled as she hugged the sleeve to her heart; tears broke out from her eyes and rolled down uninterruptedly on her face like running rivers.
"You big liar!" She cried out heartbrokenly. "You had promised me that you'd live on! Why did you break your promise to me?"
She raised her hands and lowered her head, making contact between the sleeve and her right cheek. The dried bloodstain on the sleeve dissolved and spread out when her tears soaked through the fabric, staining her face with some deep red liquid. The usual smell of wood from Jellal was long gone from the cloth once covered his left arm that all she could smell now was the musty smell of Jellal's dried blood. It made her want to vomit. However, she still found herself unable to let go the only thing he left after his death.
"Why did you leave me? Didn't you say that you'd never hurt me again?" She asked despairingly as she continued to weep bitterly. "But my heart is hurt so badly by you now. Don't you see that?"
Erza stayed silence afterwards knowing that no matter how more questions she asked, she wouldn't receive any answer. But the tears still wouldn't stop from falling down from her eyes and the unstoppable crying started to make her feel hard to breath.
She tried to breathe in more air by inhaling and exhaling deeply in between her sobs but the dizziness she felt due to insufficient supply of oxygen to her brain had already become unbearable.
"I hate you. Big liar." She managed to whisper when her body fell on the ground.
Just before she lost her consciousness, Jellal's face appeared in her mind. He smiled sadly at her and silently muttered one single word to her.
"Sorry."
