Prompt: An assassination attempt gone wrong.
"Where's Lucy?" Susan asked as she entered their private meeting room. "She knew we were meeting, right?"
Edmund rose quickly. "She wasn't with you?"
Susan shook her head. "I thought she was here."
"Come on," Peter said, hurrying out of the room and through the corridor. "Where did we last see her?"
"She was in the throne room when I saw her," Edmund said. "She was talking to a squirrel. I told her to meet Susan and come to the room when she was done."
"We'll start there." Peter led the way to the thrones and pushed open the doors. A scream escaped Susan's throat. Lucy was on the ground, trapped beneath a Calormene, who was holding a knife to her throat. The man had her arms pinned so she was unable to get to the dagger hidden in her shoe.
"Stop," he hissed as her siblings entered the room. He pushed the knife harder against her throat. "One move and she's done."
The guards rushed in after hearing Susan's scream. Peter held up a hand. "Hold," he commanded them. "What do you want?" Peter asked the man, anger and fear lacing every word.
He pointed at the thrones. "The throne – or she dies."
Peter glanced at Susan. "Let's talk this out," he said. "Let her go and we can negotiate."
He laughed wickedly. "Don't pretend like you're in control. You know I can make you do whatever I want."
"You haven't succeeded yet," Peter said, glancing to Lucy's white face.
The Calormene cackled. "I am in control! And soon I'll be in control of this entire country! I'll have you and your pitiful army at my feet!"
A sword hilt punched his head from behind, knocking him out. Edmund dragged his now-limp form off of Lucy. "Guards!" the young king yelled. The man was quickly taken to the dungeon.
The three rulers gathered around their sister. "Are you alright?" Susan asked, grabbing Lucy in a hug.
Lucy nodded shakily. "I – I think so. He came out of nowhere and I couldn't get at my boot! I'm so glad you came." She held onto Peter as if he would float out of her hands if she let go. "I was so scared."
"It's alright, Lu," Peter said. "Aslan helped us and you're safe. It's okay." He glanced up at Edmund. "Thanks Ed."
"I'm not sure how you managed that," Susan said to Edmund, "coming from behind as you did. Nicely done." Edmund nodded in response, standing to scan the room once more.
Susan knelt next to Lucy, who was still pale and trembling. She hugged her again. "We're all safe now," she said reassuringly. "It's okay."
"But how did he get in here?" Edmund spoke up. No one had an answer.
I am planning on writing another part to this, so don't worry. I won't leave you hanging! :) Please review!
