Prompt: "A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave." -Mohandas Gandhi

A Telmarine man crawled slowly through the woods, wincing every time he moved. His wounds from the wild bear still bled freely and his face was growing more and more pale with every passing moment.

An owl flew overhead. "Please," the man gasped, "please help me!"

The owl stared at the man a long minute. "I don't help oppressors," it said finally before flying on.

A short time later a horse went past. "Get help!" The man pleaded. "Please!"

The horse barely glanced at the man, but in that split second his eyes filled with fear and hatred before prancing on.

Shortly after, two dwarfs walked past and stopped at the sight of the man. "Please," the man begged weakly. "I need help."

The taller dwarf scoffed and walked away, but the other stayed, staring at the man with a mixed expression. "Drivek!" the taller dwarf yelled. "What are you waiting for? We need to go!"

"But he needs help," Drivek said slowly.

"So does every Telmarine. So does every oppressor who drives us into exile, or at least they pretend to. Like as not, it's a trick and he wants to kill us. Come on! Leave him!"

Drivek ignored his companion and came near to the man and knelt next to him. He ripped off a piece of his shirt and pressed it to the wound. "Don't worry," he said softly. "I'll help you."
