A/N Sorry about the reams of dialogue. I'm trying to set up something a little bit more exciting so please bear with me.
Aiden Sharp sat at his favourite table in his favourite café watching his favourite waitress work. He came in every day at 10am for his breakfast, ordered the same coffee and toast and readying himself for his first business meeting which always started without fail at 11am. His profession was no secret, everyone knew he dealt drugs to the local dealers, but no one ever dared bring him up on it. He had a formidable reputation, he was known to have put many a man in hospital but also to be a true gent to his women; and he had a soft spot for the newest waitress, Brooke.
She brought him his coffee and toast with her usual sunny demeanour.
"Good morning Aiden. I've got your usual. Did you need anything else?" She asked as she did every morning.
"No thank you, Brooke." He replied, a smile playing on his lips, "have you got much planned for today?"
"Just studying, this law degree is harder than it looks." She said maintaining her cheery tone.
"Ah yes, the lawyer to be, I remember now."
"Honestly, between you and I," she lowered her voice, leaning into him as she spoke, "I don't think I want to be a lawyer, the more I learn about the law, the more I can see the holes in the system. They're wrong you know, crime does pay." She laughed, and turned to go back to work. Aiden grabbed her arm, pulling her close to him, before whispering into her ear. "Meet me, at my apartment, 6 tonight. I want to get you dinner and talk more about this law degree of yours."
Brooke nodded and went back to work; as soon as she made it behind the counter, she grabbed her phone and fired off a text to Jim. She was so caught up in the moment that she hadn't noticed the boy who had witnessed the whole conversation, Bradford Hewitt.
Brad had come in for a cup of coffee, he had noticed that Brooke hadn't been around campus as much lately and wondered where she had been hiding. He had sent his lackeys, a couple of first years who seemed to think if they did what he wanted they'd get a place in his Father's company, to shadow her discreetly and let him know where she was spending her time. He hadn't believed them when they told him she'd got a job at the café, so he followed her himself. He was most surprised to see her there, clad in a pinny, serving coffee to the local drug dealer, he was even more surprised to hear her agreeing to go for dinner with him. She was doing something on her phone when he left the cafe.
The rest of her shift had passed without too much excitement, Aiden's meeting seemed to have gone well and he left, happy, as usual at midday. Brooke didn't notice the reply from Jim until she got home, all it said was well done, but those two words seemed to have so much behind them. It was getting late and she needed to get ready for her date with Aiden. She needed something to set the right tone, she settled for a black knee length shift dress and a pair of killer heels.
She left her flat, turning to lock the door when a figure crept up behind her.
"We have got to stop meeting like this," it said, filled with malice and threat "now, why don't you let me in."
The blood started pumping in her veins, she couldn't see a way out of this and she was already running late.
