In a basketball court of a local highschool a basketball game goes on and they fight for the ball as it is passed from player to player and Ororo sits in the bleachers watching.
"Set up your zone, don't let 'em shoot!" The person next to Ororo shouts with his hands around his mouth to make in louder
"Is it always this exciting?" Ororo asked him
"No, this ones a real nailbiter." He said as they looked over at the scoreboard and it showed the scores of 81 to 82 with 10 seconds left on the clock. A boy with white hair grabs the ball and runs and then passes it to another boy as he runs to the basket
"You can do it Evan shoot shoot!" Ororo said
As he ran down the court. When he got close enough he threw it and got tackled right as the ball left his hands. As he fell the ball spun around the rim of the hoop several times, right before Evan hit the floor spikes emerged from his skin and Ororo saw it all but right as he hit the floor the ball fell in the hoop just as the last second left the clock and everyone cheered as the board changed from 81 to 82 to 83 to 82. The whole team ran over to Evan and picked him up and when he looked at his arm the spikes were gone so he cheered along with everyone else. They all left with Evan up in the air, except the boy with white hair who passed the ball to Evan but got no recognition.
In the locker room...
"Good game man." One of Evans team members says as he hits him on the back and walks out
"Yeah Daniels you rule man." Another one of the team says as he walks out as well leaving only Evan and the whited haired boy
"Thanks guys, good game." Evan says as he waves at them both
"I should have known you'd hog all the glory." The white haired boy said as he walked up to Evan
"What are you talking about man everyone knows that you-" Evan said before getting cut off by him
"Everyone knows if it weren't for me you wouldn't have had that last shot. I knew I should've just taken it myself." He said to Evan very smugly as Ororo walked in but stayed hidden so she could listen.
"Hey, that was a great pass man but there's no way you could've made it down the court in time for a shot." Evan said as he continued to get ready to leave
"Hey dude I got moves you can't even imagine and I'm through holding back just to make guys like you look good." He said as he very quickly was on the other side of Evan and got in his face
"Seems like that boy has been competing with you ever since you were babies." Ororo says as she comes out from her hiding spot
"Hey auntie O what's up where's dad and mom?" Evan asked after she finished talking
"Waiting outside I think the boys locker room makes your mother nervous." Ororo said with a smile
"Right, some game huh it's tight that you showed." Evan said as he picked up his bag with all his things in it and stood up straight
"And miss my favorite nephew's big game, not a chance." Ororo said as she hugged him
"Thanks again for coming auntie." Evan said with a smile to her
"Evan, are you alright? I've been concerned about you lately. You know about the things we've discussed before." Ororo said as she sat down
"Yeah yeah no problem Auntie O everythings cool." Evan said as he made a few hand motions
"Evan I saw what happened to you out there tonight when you fell." Ororo said to him with a serious tone
"Hey it's no big deal I got it under control." Evan said as he then started to sneeze and as soon as he did spikes shot out in every direction only barely missing Ororo
"Bless you." Ororo said as she looked at him with his torn up shirt
"Busted huh?" Evan said looking down at her while she sat
"Big time." Ororo said
In Evan's backyard at his home...
"Still can't get over that last shot son, what a beauty you're gonna remember this game for a long time." Evan's dad said as he grilled steak for all of them
"Yes, isn't it exciting!" Evan's mom said as she joined them outside
"What amazes me is that you've kept it concealed this long." Ororo said as she and Evan sat far enough away and in a quiet enough tone that only Evan could hear her
"I'm telling you I've got it covered, a few points a few spikes I mean so what this is New York." Evan said trying to convince her that it did not matter
"Evan, you need to take this seriously! The Xavier institute could offer you training." Ororo said trying to change her stubborn nephews mind
"I don't need training, man I can take care of myself, anyone messes with me BAM!" Evan said as he had several spikes come out of his arm and he sliced part of the tree he was standing by. Ororo looked back at his parents and then turned to look him in the eyes again as she got slightly angry.
"No Evan, you mustn't use your powers like that, you have to learn control." Ororo said as she stood up and tried putting her hand on his shoulder only to have him push it off as soon as she did
"Hey I've got control, see everything's cool." Evan said as he retracted the spikes
"Like in the locker room." Ororo said to him still not buying it
"Alright so it's not perfected yet." Evan said pleading with her
"I think we better continue this conversation with your parents." Ororo said as she put a hand on his back and he started pouting
"Like I didn't know that was coming, look can't this wait till after school tomorrow I mean this is a big night for them." Evan said as his dad finished with the steaks
"Get 'em while they're hot!" Evan's dad then yelled so they could all hear and put them on the table
"Alright." Ororo said as Evan then kissed her on the cheek and ran to his dad, got a high five and went to the table.
"Ororo, how's it going with your nephew?" Xaviar asked her from the mansion
"Just as I feared professor. He's being stubborn." Ororo said with a tone of annoyance to Xaviar with a hand on her temple to she could concentrate on responding
"Alright we'll go to plan B, Scott, Jean, and Markus will arrive in the morning. By the way Cerebro detected another mutant signature at the game tonight but couldn't get a clear reading on it for some reason. Did you notice anything unusual there?" Xaviar asked her as he was very puzzled still
"Maybe but I'm not certain yet." Ororo said as she thought about the boy that Evan was fighting with
"Very well keep me informed." Xaviar said as he then stopped talking and Ororo went to go eat
The next day at Evan's school...
Evan walked up to his locker and messed with the lock so it opened and when he opened it he saw his wallet completely empty.
"Aw man not again!" Evan said as he shut his locker and the boy from the night before sped up to him with a smirk
"Something wrong?" He said to Evan which scared him because not even a second ago he was not there
gasp*"Where'd you come from?!?"Evan said very confused
"That's a question you should be asking on the basketball court." He said as he tapped his head a few times
"Hey look I know your fast man you were really busting some great moves last night." Evan said as the other guy paced a bit
"Aha you finally admit that I'm better than you!" he said as he quickly turned around to face Evan again
"I said you were faster not better, I still got a few tricks of my own ya know." Evan said with his hands on his hips
"Sure you do like getting ripped off for the second time this month, what's up with that?." The other kid said as he grabbed Evan's empty wallet out of his hand
"Yeah and I even changed the combination." Evan said as he pointed to his locker
"Hmm sounds like a bonafide mystery dude." he said as he shut the wallet again
"Yeah but I'm gonna trap this sleazeball." Evan said with confidence
"Sure Daniels but you're gonna need some bait." He said as he pulled some cask from his pocket and handed him his wallet and the money
"Hey thanks man I'll get it back to you on allowance day." Evan said as he put the wallet with the money in it back in his locker and then turned back to the other boy.
"Catch ya later." Evan said as they grabbed hands shook and then let go and walked away
"Not even on your best day Daniels you'll never catch me." he said as Evan walked away with a smirk
Later that day at Evan's house...
Evan, his parents, Ororo, Scott, Jean, and Markus all sat in the living room talking to Evan about going to the institute
"Man you don't give up do you Auntie O?" Evan asked as he looked at all of their faces
"That's because she loves you, she's concerned we all are." Jean said to Evan
"This certainly explains why you're always coming home with holes in your clothes." Evan's mom said with his dad standing behind her
"It's really not so bad, Mrs. Daniels having special powers can be pretty cool sometimes." Scott said with a smile
"Oh yeah I'll tell ya what shades let's see what you got that's so cool." Evan said getting angrier by the minute
"EVAN!" His mom yelled at him
"Sorry mom." Evan said as he apologized to her for the outburst
"No it's okay it's just that Scott's powers aren't really what you'd call indoor friendly." Jean said with a smile at Scott
"Yeah and the people at the mansion are the best. It's where I have met my best friends and other people like me." Markus said as he looked at Jean, Scott, and Ororo with a smile
"Okay whatever! Look man I like it right here and I'm not going to some home for freaks now if you'll excuse me I got school stuff to take care of." Evan said as he stormed to his room upstairs
"Evan." His mom said as he slammed his door shut
"Well, that went well." Jean said as she, Scott, and Markus all stood up
"Yeah and I thought we were really making a connection there." Scott said as he looked at Jean
"Does it ever go well when we just ask?" Markus said with a smirk
"I apologize for my son Mr. Summers he obviously dealing with a lot right now I'll... talk with him." he said as he walked towards the stairs
"Hey he's going out the window!" Jean said as she put her hands to her temples and Markus stood there a minute trying to focus
"Man you're right and it looks like he's bringing a skateboard so might wanna get a start." Markus said as he put his hands to his temples as well. Evan landed perfectly and skated away while Ororo, Jean, Scott, and Markus stood in the door watching him get away.
"We really need to work on our sales pitch." Scott said with a frown
Back at Evan's school...
Evan walked into the hallway holding his skateboard and helmet and hid behind some of the lockers
"Okay sneak thief you wanna play tonight the spyke man is ready." Evan said as he grew a few spikes on his arms and crouched down watching his locker for the thief to make a move. Then out of nowhere a wind picked up inside the building and all of the lockers opened and stuff was flying everywhere.
"Ahh freaky man what's going on, whatever it is it stops now!" Evan said as he ejected several spikes to form a circle around him so he would stop getting his with all of the flying books and papers when the white haired boy showed up but in a blue and white suit.
"Pietro!" he said bewildered
"Call me Quicksilver, like the outfit I made it myself took about a quarter second. Well would ya look at this it seems my old pal has a few tricks of his own but as usual not as good as mine." Pietro said as he quickly ran around the circle of spikes making them fly out of the ground and giving Evan no shield.
"You! You've got powers too?" Evan said still so bewildered by it
"Duh!" Quicksilver said as he face-palmed in sarcasm.
"Finally, remember Daniels, anything you can do I can do better. Mind if I take this back?" he said as he grabbed Evan's wallet and took the money back out of it
"But why would you want to rip me off?" Evan asked as he grabbed his wallet back and put it in his pocket
"Kicks man for the challenge! Look, when you live as fast as I do, very few things occupy my time. I gotta entertain myself." Quicksilver said as he picked up a few bags and dropped them on the ground near Evan.
"And you thought you could stop me, well eh wrong again." Quicksilver said as he slapped Evan which aggravated him even more
"DON'T BET ON IT!" Evan said as make a spike in his hand but only for Quicksilver to push him to the floor
"Aaa too slow what a surprise *yawn* you know I think you could use some more time to work on those powers of yours maybe I can arrange it." Quicksilver said as police sirens rang
"What do you mean?" Evan said as he sat up to a sitting position
"Can you say scapegoat?" Quicksilver said as he ran away and by the time Evan had stood up there were two police officers waiting for him
Local police station...
"Evan what happened?" His mom said as he and the rest of the crew walked over to his holding area
"Welcome to the downside pal, misuse your powers go to jail." Scott said as he looked at him
"It wasn't me, man!" Evan said in a panic
"Dude calm down, we know it wasn't you." Markus said as he and Jean got closer
"Yeah I believe you Evan in fact I know you didn't do it." Jean said with a warming smile
"Evan, please listen to me, let us help you." Ororo said pleading with her nephew
"So we'll make you a deal. The professor will use his influence to getcha out of here and you give the institute a think over, what do you say?" Scott said as he put his hand through the bar and extended it to him for a handshake.
"Like I've got a choice." Evan said as he stood there with his arms crossed
"Hey hey you've always got a choice we just want to help you make it the right one." Scott said as he arms stayed in the same place
"Okay, deal." Evan said as he accepted Scott's handshake
The next day at the X-Mansion...
Xavier, Kitty, Logan, Scott, Jean, and Markus all sat at a table eating breakfast
"So like where's this new guy?" Kitty said mouth still full of food
"Still sleeping, he had a rather difficult evening." Xavier said as Kurt teleported into the chair next to Logan and inhaled the smell of the food
"Ahhh I love the smell of Bacon in the morning!" Kurt said with a huge smirk
"You and me both pal." Markus said from across the table with a smirk to match Kurt's
"I think he knows who really trashed those lockers, did he tell you?" Scott said as he took a gulp of milk
"No and I'm not going to pry he'll tell us when he's ready." Xavier said as he pointed to his head
"Hmm ya ask me he's looking to settle that score personally, pass the sausages Red." Logan said as he turned to Jean and she picked it up with her telekinesis and held it in front of Logan
"Ew that stuff, like, totally plugs your arteries ya know?" Kitty said with a grimace
"I appreciate your concern." Logan said as he grabbed a sausage on each of his blades. Jean then nudged Markus with the plate which made him look up at her with a confused face but he then got it and used his telekinesis to grab the plate and set it down at the other end of the table.
"I suspect you may be right about Evan's intentions, Logan." Xavier said with his hand on his chin
"Yeah trust me chuck I may not be able to read minds but I know what a boy's thinking about when he's been wronged." Logan said as he then saw Kurt handing from the ceiling trying to get the food in front of Logan.
"ELF! How many times I gotta tell ya ask and it'll get passed to ya." Logan said as he looked up at the hanged Kurt
"Sorry I didn't want to interrupt you." Kurt said as he teleported back to his seat next to Logan
"That's better now, mind your manners." Logan said as he aggressively passed the food Kurt was trying to get
"In any case it might be best if Evan had other things to distract his mind, I've already enrolled him in Bayville now Scott could you introduce him to the basketball coach." Xavier said as he looked at Scott
"Sure after that last game he played in New York coach il jump at him." Scott said as Evan listened to their conversation from the stairs
"Good now let's hope that Evan's desire for vengeance is short-lived." Xavier said as Evan then had spikes come out of his arms and his back ruining his robe and he walked away without anyone even knowing he was listening
Later at Bayville High...
Fred, Tolanksy, Lance, and Rogue all sat waiting outside the principal's office looking very bored and uncomfortable
"I'm honored that you've come." Mystique said in her office
"I'm not here for your little student body meeting Mystique... Behold." The voice said as a hologram of Quicksilver came up
"Ah, so this is the speed demon I've been hearing about." Mystique said as she watched the hologram spin
"Pietro Maximoff is of particular interest to me, I've waited for just the right moment to approach this young man and now is the time." He finished saying to her
"Then we shall extend the hand of friendship to the boy." Mystique said as she looked away to look him in the eyes
"It will not be that easy. He believes he needs no one however there may be a way." He said as he brought up another hologram this time is is off Evan
"Yes." Mystique said as she now observed him
"Young Pietro has long had a grudge rivalry against Evan Daniels." He said as Mystique started putting together the pieces
"The new student Xavier enrolled here last week." Mystique said with a smile
"Yes, Pietro has recently taken the advantage of that competition and I believe Mr. Daniels would like to settle the score." He said as he moved his hands around
"Well then I know just how to bring them together." Mystique said as her smirk grew
"Excellent, then I will take it from there."
Back at the X-Mansion...
Cyclops, Nightcralwer, Jean, Wolverine, and Markus are in the Danger Room to show Spyke on a few things.
"This is your fifth run Spyke you wanna take a break?" Cyclops asked, as Spyke was panting hard and catching his breath
"No time for breaks man you got me here to train so lets train." Spyke said as he got ready to go again
"You heard the man, let's roll." Wolverine said
As Spyke started the course again. He skated down the course while Jean and Markus used their telekinesis to throw balls at him to see if he could dodge from all angles at once and Spyke used his spikes to get rid of a few of the balls. As Spyke continued on the course Cyclops aimed a few beams at him which he proceeded to dodge as well but one of them hit the board and caused him to fall.
"Not too shabby porcupine." Wolverine said as he walked up to him and offered a hand to help him up which Evan took with a smile
"Spyke, the coach just called, says you gotta come to the gym you gotta play tonight." Shadowcat said over the speaker
"There wasn't one on the schedule?" Evan said confused
"Well there is now a coach says principal Darkhölme, like, put it together at the last minute and says he wants ya suited up in like one hour cause you're starting against P.S.104." Shadowcat said to him
"Dude alright you get to play against your alma mater!" Nightcrawler said as he teleported to where they were all standing and Markus, Cyclops, and Jean all exchanged worried looks
"Yeah." Spyke said ready to see Quicksilver so he could show him what's what.
Later at Bayville High...
The bus from the other school arrives and the players from the other team start loading off and last to get off is Pietro
"Hey Maximoff!" Evan yelled as soon as he saw him
"Out of jail already or is this miserable dump part of your punishment?" Pietro said with a huge smirk
"We've got a score to settle Pietro." Evan said as he tried to grab him but Pietro was to fast
"As usual to slow props for the attitude might be hope for you after all Daniels." Pietro said as he pushed Evan to the ground
"What's going on here?" Scott said as he walked up behind Pietro and put a hand on his shoulder as Jean and Markus stood next to him
"Nothing I can't handle!" Evan said as he got up off the ground
"Is this the guy who was stealing from the lockers?" Jean said when she saw him
"Stay out of this!" Evan said with a bitter tone
"That true?" Scott said as he looked down at Pietro
"Actually yeah, yeah I trashed those lockers. Why are you gonna do something about it?" Pietro said as he smacked Scotts hand away and then started poking at his chest
"Look, I think you better come with us!" Scott said as he grabbed his arm only to get thrown to the ground
"I don't think so." Pietro said
"That is it Pietro you're going down this time!" Evan said as he jumped at him but Pietro moved out of the way just for Evan to again fall to the ground
"OoOh sounds like a challenge come on Daniels let's see what you got." Pietro said as he ran away
"Trust me man you're gonna find out!" Evan said as he grabbed his board, helmet, and suit and started chasing after him.
"Man that guys fast." Scott said as he started to get up
"Wow, nice deduction captain obvious." Markus said to him as he helped Scott up
"We can't let Evan do this alone." Jean said as she watched him leave
"When you're with the X-Men you're never alone." Markus said to them
"Let's go!" Scott said as they started running to him
"Give it up, Daniel's you are out of your league." Quicksilver said to him as he stopped to let him catch up in mockery
"Not this time Pietro, it's time I win one!" Spyke said as Quicksilver pushed him off his board and he fell to the ground for a third time
"You call this a challenge you can't even touch me no matter what I do, check it out spike boy say goodbye to Bayville." Quicksilver said as he ran down the street so fast cars started flying and windows exploding.
"We have to stop him." Jean said as they finally caught up
"I've tried he's just too fast, I thought you said all that training stuff would help!" Spyke said as he threw his helmet to the ground
"Training is just one part of it, Spyke, teamworks another." Scott said as he put his hand on his shoulder
"YAHOO!" Quicksilver said as he continued to run down the streets and breaking things and then started running around them trapping them
"Jean, Markus he can't run if his feet are off the ground." Scott said in hurry
"On it!" Jean said as she Markus focused but not too hard because together they are very strong. As Quicksilver was running he started to levitate off the ground and started freaking out.
"Hey what's going on!" Quicksilver said as he then ran faster making it even harder to hold him in the air
"I can't do it, I can't keep him up!" Markus said as he started to lose control and Jean opened her eyes and looked at him but not before Quicksilver figured out what to do.
"Hehehe hold on to this baby it's twister time!" Quicksilver started running even faster which made a wind so strong they could not stand and got blown away. They were all holding onto things so they did not blow even further away from him and could stop him.
"Spyke lock a load!" Cyclops said as he shot Quicksilver getting him to stop and get thrown into a wall and before he hit the ground Spyke ejectected spikes at him holding him to the wall.
"I can't get loose, I CAN'T GET LOOSE!" Quicksilver said as he struggled to get out
"Not so fast now are ya Quicksilver?" Evan said as the four of them walked up to him
"Yeah what goods it do you Daniel's you still can't prove I had anything to do with getting you in trouble can ya?" Quicksilver said with a bitter tone
"OoOh sounds like a challenge. I got it all right here, check this out." Spyke said as he held of a tape recorder
"Actually yeah, yeah I trashed those lockers. Why are you gonna do something about it?" played on the recorder while Quicksilver sat there with a bitter look on his face
"Good shot dude looks like some of that training did pay off." Cyclops said as police sirens started to go off and the four of them left leaving Quicksilver there with the evidence that he trashed the lockers
"Hey, hey, HEY LEMME GO HEY!" He screamed as they all left
Meanwhile at the Local jail holding area...
"Hey you gotta let me out of here! I want out of here!" Pietro yelled as he climbed the bars and the building began to shake, making him drop to the ground
"Wha- you?" Pietro said as he saw the man with the metal helmet.
"It is good to see you again, Pietro even under such distressing circumstances." He said as he looked at Pietro behind bars
"Yeah well you could make them a lot less distressing ya know c'mon hustle it up move it!" Pietro complained while dangling on the bars
"Still impatient but you have learned much Pietro and I need your services if you think you can handle the job?" He said as he got closer to the cell Pietro was in
"Oh sounds like a challenge, okay whatever you want just let's bail this jail." Pietro said to him
"Very well." He said as Pietro backed up and he bent the bars out of shape so Pietro could walk out.
"Come with me." He said as he put his hand out for Pietro to grab
Back at the X-Mansion...
"So, what do you think Evan? Would you like to stay at the Institute?" The Professor asked Evan, as he was hoping another young mutant would come under his wing
"Yeah I've thought about it... I'm sorry but no, all of this, the mansion, so many people and most importantly I'm far away from my family. I really appreciate you and the others for helping me with my problems but I don't think I'm ready to be here." Evan said as he wanted to be honest to the Professor
"I understand... Though I was hoping for you to stay, if you feel uncomfortable being away from your home and you want to come at a later time, I'd respect your decision. Thank you for considering us Evan. I have a car waiting for you..." The Professor said in a disappointing but yet respectable attitude to Evan as he made a choice of his own not to be enrolled in the Institute for now as he watched him leave
