Welcome back. I hope you enjoy this chapter. I had some fun writing the bitchy Roxanne in her more gooey center personality.
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokémon.
It was the next morning and May was just getting out of bed. Brawly had given her the whole guest room to herself because you know girls need their privacy and Brendan was given the couch. May appreciated the room because her sleep wear tended to be on the lighter side. She was wearing only a red crop top and pink panties, and this was being "modest". She sleepily got up and just went downstairs to get a quick breakfast, completely forgetting that not much of her skin was covered. She only realized when she got to the kitchen that she was in a house with two boys her age and this might not be the best outfit to wear around them. As embarrassment creeped in she looked around and noticed that nobody was there. There wasn't even any evidence that Brendan had slept on the couch. May quickly got ready into her usual outfit and tried to find where they went. She didn't go far as when she walked out the door she saw them on the beach.
"Hey what are you guys doing?" she asked as she ran up to them.
Upon getting closer she realized that they both only had one article of clothing on, swimming trunks. Brawly looked like she expected with him being a professional surfer and all. Ripped but slim with a slight tan. Brendan however was a surprise. He had the exact same body type just without the tan.
"Oh wow...maybe I should challenge them to a double battle if you know what I mean." she whispered to herself.
"Oh good morning May. Did you say something?" Brendan greeted, having just noticed her.
"Umm...oh yeah I was just wondering what you're doing." she said, trying to hide her blush.
"Roxanne isn't available until noon so me and Brawly have been sparing since early morning to pass the time." Brendan explained.
"Sparing?" May questioned.
"You're wide open!" Brawly yelled as he lunged forth.
Going for a straight right punch he swung and Brendan blocked it with his left forearm. The impact had enough force that it blew May's hair around. May immediately jumped back a bit sensing that these two were serious.
"Ha! Nice try!" Brendan said as he brought his right leg up to Brawly's left side.
Brawly blocked the same way Brendan did. They both stayed like that pushing their attack against the others block. They both jumped back and slid a couple feet and before the sand from their slide settled they had jumped at each other again. May was watching in amazement and not just from horniness anymore. I mean she was definitely enjoying the two sweaty, shirtless men throwing hands with each other but it was the way they fought that had her mesmerized. They weren't just two boys playing around. They were fighting like two professional martial artists. Each strike thrown by them was expertly blocked or parried with little more than a fraction of a second in between moves. Sand was being kicked up all around them and even their sweat beads wouldn't hit the ground until about 6 or 7 moves later. May had to activate her Aura just so her eyes could keep up with the action. They connected their fists with such force that it blew away most of the obstructing sand that was in the air. They jumped back and sat down for a quick break.
"Isn't he great? Brawly trains under Bruno of the Elite Four so I just had to have a go at him." Brendan praised.
"Bruno? There's no one in our Elite Four with that name." May said confused.
"Master Bruno is the current third strongest member of the Indigo League's Elite Four which is for the Kanto-Johto Region. He's also the world's martial arts champion and he traveled all over the world to prove it." Brawly explained.
"Speaking of which, who are your Elite Four members?" Brendan asked.
"Well there's Sidney Shade, a dark type master and Hoenn's resident gambling champ. Then you have Phoebe Midnight, ghost type master and medium extraordinaire. Next is Glacia Reef, a woman who shines elegance and even though ice is her type she has quite the warm personality. Then finally there's Drake Draconid, a retired Navy admiral and chief of the Draconid clan. He uses dragon types and is rumored to be even stronger than Kanto's champion, Lance." May explained.
"Why isn't someone that legendary your Champion?" Brendan asked.
"Because our current Champion knocked him flat a few years ago." Brawly added.
"Remember when Mr. Stone said you'd get along great with his son? That would be Steven Stone, Hoenn's current Champion." May finished explaining.
Brendan's Aura flared in excitement.
"This sounds like a man I just have to meet. Break time is over Brawly. I'm fired up!" Brendan said, excitedly.
The two meatheads began going at each other again this time with almost twice the intensity as before. May spotted another onlooker a bit further down the beach. Taking a closer look it turned out to be Roxanne relaxing on the beach. She was laying down on a chair with a modest but cute bikini. A white band like frill top and a frill skirt bottom. Upon noticing May's gaze she quickly pulled her shades down and pretended like she wasn't looking. May decided to confront her.
"Enjoying the view I see?" May teased.
"W-what?! Of course not! I'm just taking a small vacation and sunbathing...that's it." Roxanne stuttered defensively.
"Oh? So the flirty look you had looking at Brawly and Brendan was what then? Getting sand out of your eye?" May continued to press.
"Like I would ever look at either of those neanderthals longingly." She defended again.
"Yeah don't give me that bull. By the angle of your head and the position of your pupils you were staring directly at Brawly." May pointed out.
Roxanne just looked shocked at how she was able to tell.
"What? I'm the daughter of a Pokémon Professor so smart just runs in my blood." she said.
"Fine I...I still like him…" Roxanne admitted.
"So why do you treat him so coldly?" May asked.
"Because he tried to rape me. Not only that but he would never listen to me when something he did bothered me." Roxanne explained.
"Really? He never listened? Kinda like you never hear him out everytime he tries to explain the drug thing to you?" May said condescendingly.
"Whatever. I didn't ask for your opinion anyway." She shot back.
May let Roxanne be and left. The thing Roxanne hated most about Brawly is how special she felt when they were together. Maybe she did jump the gun when she broke up with him. The least she could do is give him a chance to explain.
"Stop giving him pity Roxanne. You're going to hear him out but that's it." she yelled to herself.
Time passed. Roxanne soaked up some rays, Brendan and Brawly beat the shit out of each other and May had snuck off somewhere. However the time had finally come for the official Gym battle, fought right on the beach of Dewford.
"Alright challenger, I'm Brawly Riptide, the Dewford Town Gym Leader. I specialize in the fighting type. As per league regulation I have to use a team based on how many badges you have regardless of your actual strength or skill. This will also be used as your promotion match to a Gym Leader class trainer which myself and Rustboro City Gym Leader, Roxanne Granite will be the judge of." Brawly introduced and explained.
"Enough talk Brawly. We're men of action." Brendan said.
Brawly sent out his Meditite and quickly assessing it Brendan sent out Poochyena.
"A dark type against a fighting type? Interesting choice." Brawly taunted.
"Don't underestimate me. I'm taking a chance here and if I'm right Meditite won't be able to touch Poochyena." Brendan gloated.
Brawly began to sweat but ordered Meditite to attack anyway. He started charging energy in his fist.
"Ha! Just as I thought. Shut it down with a bite Poochyena." Brendan laughed.
He bolted forward and bit Meditite on the shoulder. Wincing in pain, all the energy in his fist dissipated.
"See Meditite might be a fighting type Pokemon but it doesn't have a very fighting type move pool. In fact it doesn't have any natural fighting moves at this level. You taught it focus punch but that requires that it doesn't get hit that turn and psychic moves don't affect dark types. That's a checkmate on this round." Brendan explained.
Brawly had to sit there and watch Meditite get wrecked while Poochyena went untouched.
"You aren't just muscle huh? This is gonna be fun." Brawly said excitedly.
His second Pokemon was a Machop. Brendan knew Poochyena wouldn't survive even one hit so his plan was to go first and flinch it with bite however Poochyena and Machop have the same speed so it's a coin toss for who goes first and Brendan doesn't do very well with blind luck. Both Pokémon leaped at the same time but Machop's karate chop landed first and instantly took Poochyena out.
"Nice try at whittling but lady luck was on my side." Brawly complemented.
Brendan's Aura flared up a bit more and Brawly matched him. He sent out Grovyle.
"You willing to listen to me again?" Brendan asked.
Grovyle took the stick it was chewing on out of its mouth and whipped it at Brendan's forehead.
"Ow! Fine handle it how you see fit...asshole." Brendan pouted.
He started off with bullet seed but not many seeds hit.
"Alright Machop, use bulk up followed by focus energy." Brawly ordered.
He bulked up and focused while taking a pelt of seeds in between.
"Shit. Grovyle you need to listen to me or you're going to regret it." Brendan said knowing what Brawly was building up too.
Grovyle just glared back at Brendan. When he looked back Machop had closed the distance and landed a karate chop right into Grovyle's stomach. This knocked all the wind out of him and sent him flying halfway down the beach. He got up but couldn't really catch his breath. He vomited a few seconds after and looked back in shock. Machop and Brawly were smiling while Brendan had a look of disappointment. That look pissed Grovyle off the most.
"I'm surprised he's still holding on. That was a critical hit thanks to focus energy and karate chop's high critical hit ratio. Not to mention he was buffed by bulk up." Brawly said expecting to have already won this round.
"Grovyle is my strongest Pokémon but he doesn't like me very much for some reason. I want him to realize he could always come out on top if he would just listen to me sometimes. He's never lost before so I think it's time for him to learn this hard lesson. Finish him off Brawly." Brendan explained.
Grovyle bolted ahead firing bullet seeds in anger. He was too strong to lose to some second fiddle and he wasn't going to let Brendan look down on him anymore. Unfortunately Machop wasn't taking much damage from the seeds and landed another critical hit knocking Grovyle out cold.
"Sorry friend. You needed some humility." Brendan said as he returned him.
"Well you're down two and your ace is out should I call the match now?" Brawly taunted.
"Grovyle might be my overall ace but he's not my ace for this fight." Brendan shot back.
May finally showed up from wherever she was looking kinda sweaty.
"What did I miss?" she asked Roxanne.
"Brendan made Brawly's first Pokémon useless and Grovyle just got beat to a pulp. You also might want to back up a little." She answered slowly backing up herself.
Brendan threw his last Pokeball but Brawly saw nothing come out of the flash of light. Then he noticed a short blue headed Pokémon directly behind Machop.
"What?! How did it move so fast?!" Brawly thought.
Not even a second later the little Pokémon glew with psychic energy and fired Machop like a missile at the rock wall of the cave.
"Ralts would be my ace against fighting types." Brendan said in a cocky tone.
"That thing is utterly terrifying when it has a temper tantrum. I almost lost my head in my battle with Brendan because of it." Roxanne said with a shiver.
"So what was that you were saying about calling the match? I have no problem if you want to give up now." Brendan taunted again.
"Not a chance bro. Fight till you can't stand no more." He said, throwing out his ace.
Makuhita emerged and Brendan just smirked.
"Let him go first Ralts. Show him how out matched he is." Brendan ordered.
Brawly pulled all the stops and gave Makuhita all his Aura for this attack. He ran up and unleashed a barrage of arm thrusts at blinding speeds.
"Wow. Aura can even make a slow Pokemon like Makuhita move like a Jolteon." May said in amazement.
"That's why you can only use Aura against another Aura User. It's just not fair when an Oddish can hit with the force of a Salamence." Roxanne added.
The flurry of attacks ended with one last big punch right to the face however Ralts was completely unaffected. She just death glared Makuhita.
"That probably would have worked if I wasn't using Aura too. Not to mention Ralts is a psychic and fairy type which quad resists fighting. Finish it with confusion, Ralts." Brendan gloated.
With a burst of psychic energy the match was set. Brendan stood victorious.
"Looks like you have to talk with Brawly now. You don't have to do anything you don't want to but at least hear him out ok?" May said.
"Fine...I'll hear him out." Roxanne sighed.
"Damn dude. You are one radical bro I'll tell you that. Here's the Knuckle Badge to prove your win." Brawly congratulated.
"I hate to admit it but that was very well fought. Now me and Brawly will discuss your Trainer Class promotion...privately." She said somewhat reluctantly.
As the Gym Leaders went off to discuss Brendan and May were left behind.
"So where were you? You missed most of the battle." Brendan asked.
"Umm nowhere in particular…" She clearly lied.
Brendan looked her up and down and noticed she was sweaty.
"You were off training yourself weren't you? Why would you hide that?" he questioned again.
"I just feel so powerless next to you. We're rivals but you far out class me and it just felt embarrassing to admit that I have to work this hard to catch up to you." she admitted.
"May the point of a rival is to push you to greater heights. Rivals don't have to have the same power. You see I'm strong which makes you work hard to catch up which makes me work hard so I don't get left behind. Our rivalry is working just fine." Brendan explained to make her feel better about it.
May felt a little weak in the knees. Brendan was strong, handsome and he could be quite sensitive sometimes. There was no denying it she was falling for him.
"Thanks Brendan. You really know how to cheer a girl up." May said in a slightly flirtatious tone.
"No Brendan! Bad boy! Bad bad bad! That's your homie's crush. Do not pounce! I repeat do not pounce!" he yelled at himself in his head.
"Anyway I have to get going to Slateport. Could you finish the task Mr. Stone asked me to do? He wanted me to give this letter to his son Steven but I couldn't find him." she said.
"You mean the Champion? How can I pass up an opportunity like this? Sure." he agreed.
She gave him the letter and they parted ways. Roxanne sat awkwardly on Brawly's couch with about two feet of distance between the two.
"Sooooo…" Brawly trailed off trying to start the conversation.
"We both already know how good Brendan is and are in agreement to promote him." she quickly finished for him.
"Oh ok. Soooo… meeting adjourned?" he asked awkwardly.
"No. I've ignored you for almost a year now and that's not getting either of us anywhere. I have questions for you and I want you to answer truthfully." she said softly but athortifly.
"I have nothing to hide from you Roxanne. Asked away." he told her with a genuine smile.
"I don't even know where to start...How about your groupies. Why were you always flirting with them?" she asked.
"I wasn't flirting with them. They were harassing me. After I got with you I kept telling them I was taken but they were persistent...too persistent. I later found out they were actually paid off to harass me." he explained.
"Who would do that?" she asked, feeling a little bad about their break up now.
"This is probably going to be hard for you to believe but it was Chaz. He saw my popularity as a threat and hatched a huge master plan to take me down. The groupies were the first step so that you would get fed up and break up with me." he continued.
"You're telling me that we broke up because Chaz manipulated me?! Do you realize how crazy that sounds? I didn't even know him yet." she said offensively.
"I know. It's absolutely insane and by continuing to ask these questions you're going to find out that's exactly what he is." he told her.
"Ok let's just say I believe you what was step two?" she asked.
"That was to let you get back on the dating scene. You see I did do something a little crazy. I wanted you to be happy so everytime you got a new boyfriend I threatened them to treat you right. If they ran away they wouldn't have made you happy and if they weren't scared then they were the one for you." Brawly admitted.
"Kind of creepy but also kind of sweet. What does it have to do with anything though?" she asked with a little blush on her face.
"Because Chaz figured I would do this and had someone follow me and record everything. Once he had enough incriminating footage he moved to step three, dating you." Brawly added.
Roxanne had a face of both shock and heartache.
"He only dated me to get at you...but he was so...so nice. He was perfect in every way of the word." she said in denial.
"Don't you think he was maybe a bit too perfect?" Brawly asked.
The realization was now setting in on Roxanne and tears began falling from her eyes.
"Oh my god...everything you're telling me is true...he played me...I'm so stupid!" she cried.
"Hey don't do that. Chaz is a master manipulator. You're not the first one he did this to and I'm sure you're not the last." Brawly said to comfort her.
"Wait? If everything is true then what actually happened at the party?" she asked.
"It was set up for my failure. He played me and had me see him drop the drugs. If I made a noise to you he would play all of my threats for everyone to see, if I let him be he would have raped you. I took the third option, beat him to a bloody pulp. That one made me look worse than the threat video but at least he couldn't rape you." Brawly finished.
Roxanne just looked at him with a steady stream of tears falling.
"I have just one last question...How do you feel about me?" she asked in between sobs.
"Hasn't changed since I asked you out. I love you more than anything. Your happiness is my happiness and if you find that in a different man than so be it but I'll never let harm come to you." he told her, placing his hand on her shoulder.
"Words cannot describe just how truly sorry I am for all of this...but actions can." she said as she tackled him down.
She crashed her lips against his in the most passionate kiss of either of their lives. Wrapping her arms around his neck and running her fingers through his hair while she straddled and subconsciously grinded on him. He was taken aback for only a second as he welcomed the kiss and his hands instinctively worked their way up her dress and onto her ass. This passionate make up kiss lasted over five minutes straight as their tongues explored and marked every millimeter of the others mouth. When they broke off Roxanne began crying again.
"I'm so sorry. I should have communicated better. You were the best boyfriend I ever had and I took you for granted. It hurt me so much to break up with you and when I thought you were trying to hurt me that hurt more than you could possibly imagine. I don't think I ever stopped loving you and I don't plan to start now." Roxanne poured her heart out.
"So does this mean we're a thing again?" Brawly asked with a stupid grin.
"Just shut up and take me you idiot." She shot at him.
He stopped her from pouncing again which gained a small whimper from her.
"We have a trainer waiting for our final decision." he added.
"Shit. I totally forgot about that." Roxanne said, jumping off of him.
As she was walking away Brawly got up and pulled her hair causing her to look straight up and let out a small moan. Brawly who kinda towers over Roxanne bent down with his face inches from hers.
"We'll continue this later." he said in a low calm voice.
Roxanne nearly melted into him but she had work to do and needed to stay professional.
In the time of their discussion Brendan went to the Pokémon Center to ask about the whereabouts of Steven and to heal his Pokémon. He didn't find any answers so he returned to the beach. He let Grovyle out and he was clearly sulking.
"You probably don't want to hear this but I don't care. You lost today because you didn't listen to me." Brendan put it bluntly.
Grovyle looked at him with all the wrath he could muster.
"Oh get off your high horse. You're not the best and you never have been. What you are is strong but even all the power in the world is useless if you don't know how to use it." Brendan told him.
Grovyle was getting visibly more frustrated and not because he hates what Brendan is saying but because what he's saying is the truth.
"I don't look down on you. The opposite in fact. I think you and me can make an amazing team but we need to work together so what do you say pal? We going to take the Champion title or what?" Brendan said, reaching his hand out.
Grovyle simmered down but still gave Brendan his usual glare. He then sighed and reluctantly shook Brendan's hand while cracking a very slight smile. At that point Brawly and Roxanne had returned. Brendan immediately sensed something different between them.
"Roxanne you're giving off a very slightly less bitchy vibe than before...what happened?" he asked suspiciously.
"I told you to stop calling me a bitch! Also my personal life doesn't concern you!" she scolded.
"Personal life huh? So something did happen?" Brendan said, raising his eyebrow.
Roxanne's face flushed red and Brawly laughed.
"We smoothed things over between us. We also came to a decision on you." Brawly explained.
"Yes. Congratulations Brendan Ruby. You have been promoted to a Gym Leader Class Trainer. While you don't actually hold the title of Gym Leader you do have responsibilities." Roxanne congratulated.
"Yeah when things get tough you are expected to help out." Brawly elaborated.
"So basically what I was already doing? And now Roxanne can't bitch at me for it? Sweet!" Brendan said to jab at Roxanne.
"So what's your next move?" Brawly asked.
"May had to leave so she asked me to deliver this letter to Steven Stone but I can't find him anywhere." he explained.
"Oh Steven is in Granite Cave at the far end of the island." Brawly said.
"Thanks man. I'll see you love birds around." Brendan teased.
Roxanne lit up with embarrassed anger again as Brendan made his way to Granite Cave.
And with this chapter finished I now have material for another fic I was planning. You see couples like Roxanne and Brawly don't really fit the narrative anymore after their debut so I'm making a new fic called Poke Legends: One Shots. This will consist of stories with the couples that don't make sense to write about in the main story. All these one shots will be canon with the overall narrative of Poke Legends just in a place that makes sense as opposed to a random chapter of a couple that has no ties with the main characters. So look forward to that.
