I love that chaos is so consistent in this story. Everything's connected in a long, roundabout way. Snow sees the fruits of her labor in person, and Emma lets something slip *they* weren't ready to admit. Also, there are too many FREAKING K-Names in this story, and I am frustrated with this lack of foresight on my part.
Also, there is a brief mention (implication) of marital SA. I don't go into details.
There is no disrespect to the Frozen community for the joke I made.
Bella sat on one side of the booth with Rosalie, and Kieran sat on the other side with Kara. Emmett pulled up a chair for him and Tinkerbell, and the siblings sat together. Ruby slipped behind the counter and put on her apron, snatching her notebook from the ledge. She came over to the group and turned to Kara first.
"Since you're least likely to give me the most issues, what can I get you, new kid?"
"Well, I've never been here before-
"Oh, right. We have pretty much anything diner-related. So that's pancakes, French toast, waffles, eggs, and bacon. We also have burgers, fries, shakes, and other greasy, heart-stopping food."
"And salads," Kieran added.
"No one eats those but you and your mother," Ruby said.
"It's not our fault we have good taste."
"Hardly," Bella scoffed. "I've seen who and what you like. No offense."
"None taken. I've seen what you're attracted to also. No offense."
"I would love nothing more than to break your arm for that comment, but you might break me in half," Rosalie said dryly.
Kara shrugged a little and turned to Ruby, saying, "I'll take a double order of pancakes and waffles, scrambled eggs, extra-crispy bacon, and a vanilla milkshake."
"Oh, you and I will have lots of fun together," Ruby muttered, scribbling down the order. "I haven't met someone who can eat as much as me in a long time."
"Sweet! And can I have extra whipped cream on the shake?"
"Duh. Is there any other way?"
Kara grinned, and Ruby turned to Bella.
"Do not be difficult," she warned.
"What? I just want a cheeseburger with extra onions-
"Please, no," Rosalie interrupted.
"Wait, why?"
"Onions taste funny," Rosalie grumbled.
"How would you know?"
"I can taste them when we kiss."
"Fine, fine. I want a cheeseburger with no onions or tomatoes," Bella said.
"Do you want fries?"
"Yes, please. And kind I get a milkshake too?"
"What kind?"
"Cookies and cream."
"Got you. Kieran, what do you want?" Ruby asked.
"Chicken kale salad," Emmett, Kieran, and Bella said in unison.
"With a side of fruit," Bella added.
"And a glass of water with lemon," Emmett drawled.
"Okay, I don't order that-
"Yes, you do," Emmett interrupted.
"Every time we come here," Bella said.
Kieran scoffed and folded her arms.
"It's not my fault I like kale."
"Honestly, how are we related?" Bella sighed.
"What's wrong with kale?"
"Name one thing that isn't wrong with it."
"It's high in iron."
"So is drinking blood," Bella said, jerking her head at Rosalie and Emmett.
"It's high in calcium."
"Then drink milk. Seriously, I'd rather be related to a rabbit."
Kieran kicked Bella under the table.
"Son of a bitch," Bella hissed. "I swear I'm going to knock you sideways."
"Promises, promises," Kieran mocked.
Kara snickered and adjusted her glasses but removed them and tucked them in her jacket pocket. It wasn't loud in Storybrooke, and it was peaceful enough that she could get away without dampening her powers. Kara relaxed and sank back against the booth, throwing her arm around Kieran without thinking about it. Kieran turned to her with wide eyes, and Kara was mid-apology when Kieran smiled and leaned into her side. Bella cocked an eyebrow but said nothing. Ruby cleared her throat and turned to Tinkerbell.
"Are you eating? I know you ate at the house."
"I'm almost afraid to give my order," she said.
"Don't let my sister intimidate you. She's a puppy," Emmett scoffed.
"I have never been so insulted in my life."
"You'll live."
"Okay then. The chicken kale salad does sound good. But can I get fries instead of fruit?"
"You can get whatever you want, Tink."
"Then that's what I'll have. Can you burn the fries a little?"
"Of course. I'll go put the order in, and then I'll be back."
"Thanks, Rubes," Bella said.
"You're welcome." Ruby's head tilted toward the kitchen, and then she added, "Also, Granny says not to start another fight with your sister."
"We are not fighting. We are having our special sister time."
Kara, Emmett, and Rosalie cringed, and Kieran shook her head. Ruby snorted and walked off, hurrying to give Granny their food orders.
"I don't know how you made that sound dirty," she said.
"Okay, Elsa, keep your kinks to yourself."
"I can assure you that is not one of my kinks."
Kieran clamped her mouth shut, and Bella smiled widely. She leaned forward and propped her chin, her eyes promising nothing good would come out of her mouth.
"I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours," she teased.
"Bella, is this appropriate for the table?" Emmett asked.
"This is not the worst conversation we've had."
"She has a point," Rosalie added.
"There, you happy? Your best friend agreed with me."
"She always agrees with you," Emmett snorted. "You're her mate."
"I can assure you, brother, that my lovely girlfriend takes pleasure in disagreeing with me," Bella said.
"That's one of my kinks," Rosalie teased.
Emmett sighed heavily and turned to Tinkerbell.
"I'm so sorry for what's about to happen," he said.
"Why? I wish I could talk to my siblings about stuff like this, but they're all uptight."
"You have siblings?" Bella asked.
"Sort of."
Everyone waited for an explanation, but it never came. Bella cleared her throat and looked back at Kieran, expectant.
"Tit for tat?" she asked.
"Fine. I like praise," Kieran huffed.
"How completely unsurprising. Mine is edging."
"Being edged or doing the edging?" Kara asked.
All eyes went to her, and she frowned.
"What?"
"I didn't expect you to know what I was talking about," Bella said.
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Because you're you."
"That doesn't answer my question."
"You had to look up what Daddy meant," Kieran argued.
"Because I had never heard it in that context," Kara countered. "But I am not incompetent in things related to sex."
Kieran didn't have a response to that, and Bella tapped her knuckles on the counter.
"How do you know what it is?" she asked.
"When I was at college, I had a friend who liked studying kinks and sexual activities. She thought they connected to a person's sense of self or something like that. I learned as much as she did in the process. There were topics we didn't address for many reasons, one being the whole Daddy thing. But I know enough to get by in conversation."
"Alright then. What do you think the answer to your question is?" Bella asked. "Since you had to do in-depth soul searching on the topics."
"I think you like being edged more than you enjoy doing the edging." Bella gestured for her to continue, and Kara shrugged one shoulder. "I'm going to go out on a limb and say you have to be in control because, if you aren't, you're afraid you'll lose. It might not be a literal loss, but whatever it is, it's something that you need. Edging is your way of putting that control and trust into someone else's hands, knowing they'll catch you when you fall. But you've never done it before. You're afraid of it."
Bella stared at Kara for a long moment before saying, "I have never been so impressed and annoyed by someone in my life. As a form of apology, you have to tell us one of yours."
Kara pursed her lips, and she looked up at the ceiling for a moment. She sighed and glanced back down, saying, "Food play."
"Like licking honey and chocolate off skin type of food play?"
"Yes."
Bella's eyes sparkled, and she said, "I see why my sister likes you."
Kieran kicked Bella again, her face red, and Bella surrendered. She leaned into Rosalie's side, and the conversation switched to trivial things before Ruby brought out their food. The wolf winked at Kara as she put her food on the table, and Kara saw why.
"I wouldn't want to deny you of any pleasures," Ruby teased.
"Thank you," she laughed.
Kara picked up the chocolate syrup and doused her pancakes in it. Ruby plopped down on the side where Kara and Kieran sat with a burger. Everyone ate their food in a comfortable silence until Tinkerbell cleared her throat and stabbed several pieces of lettuce.
"My favorite is exhibitionism," she said, shoving her food into her mouth.
Bella choked around the same time as Ruby, and Emmett's head snapped to the side.
"What?" he said, his voice cracking.
"I like the idea of being watched. Is that going to be a problem for you?"
Emmett opened his mouth, then closed it. He shook his head no, and Tinkerbell winked.
"Good then."
"So, one sibling likes praise, the other doesn't mind someone else watching, and the other likes going past her limits," Rosalie said. "Makes so much sense in hindsight."
"Don't forget the cousin that likes-
"I will bite you," Ruby hissed.
"Hey, you stole my line," Bella said, pouting.
"I hate you."
Bella blew Ruby a kiss, and Kara slid her hand to the fruit next to Kieran. She snagged a strawberry, and Kieran sighed before pushing it closer. Kara did a little fist bump and took the rest of the strawberries, placing them on her plate. Kara paused and looked at Kieran, then the strawberry. She picked up one and dragged it through the chocolate syrup before holding it to Kieran. Kieran blinked and opened her mouth slowly. Kara watched her teeth pierce the fruit, and her eyes followed Kieran's tongue as she licked the chocolate from around her lips. Kara leaned over –
"That's my good girl," she whispered.
Kieran promptly started choking, and Emmett pinched the bridge of his nose. Ruby cackled and smacked Kieran on the back, and Rosalie shook her head when Bella glanced at her questioningly.
"Nothing worth repeating. Trust me," Rosalie said.
Bella grunted and went back to her food. Kara winked at Kieran and started cutting her pancakes into smaller pieces. Maybe Storybrooke wouldn't be so bad after all.
"Why are you going to the station?" Bella asked.
"I need to talk to Emma, and I think Emma knows the guy who runs the newspaper around here," Kieran said.
"So?"
"Kara was a journalist. I'm hoping she can get a job there and get the paper up and running again."
"Your sentimentality disgusts me."
"Love you too."
Kara came out of the diner with her second milkshake, and Tinkerbell giggled at something she said. Emmett shook his head at both while Rosalie carried a to-go meal for Regina. Bella jerked her thumb at Kara.
"She can make a friend out of thin air," Bella said.
"It's part of why I like her so much. She balances me out."
"Yeah, you'd rather live in a hole than interact with society."
"As long as you know that, and I know that, then I'm fine."
Bella rolled her eyes and stepped to the side as Kara came up to them. Emmett and Tinkerbell hung around the back, and Rosalie slipped her arms around Bella's waist.
"Are you ready to go?" Kara asked.
"How are you going to carry me- never mind. I forgot who I was talking to," Kieran said.
"I would never let you fall."
"And the milkshake?"
"I can hold both," Kara huffed.
Kieran grinned and stepped onto Kara's toes.
"Then carry us both," she teased.
"Hold on! How come you get to fly with her, and I can't?" Bella exclaimed.
"She's my friend."
"And that means what?"
"You know why you aren't flying with Kara," Emmett said.
"I can handle myself."
No one said a word to that, and Bella pouted. Rosalie kissed her on the neck.
"How about we go home and take a bath together?"
Bella's eyebrows went up, and she said, "I suddenly have no desire to fly."
"Shocker," Kieran drawled, draping her arms around Kara's neck.
Kara hovered off the ground and expertly adjusted Kieran until she could drink from her milkshake.
"Unbelievable," Kieran muttered.
"You want to taste?" Kieran gave Kara a look, and Kara shrugged. "I was just asking," she said.
"After that stunt in the diner, you're walking on thin ice."
"Okay. But you should know that I can hold my breath for a very long time."
"Kara!"
"Okay, ew. I did not need to hear that. And now that you two are a thing, are we going to have to hear you flirt all of the time?" Emmett asked.
"Pot meet kettle," Kieran scoffed. "You flirted with Tink the entire time we were eating."
"I was not!"
"You were," Tinkerbell said. "It was honestly refreshing to see a man chase what he wants."
"Ha! She thought it was refreshing," Emmett said to Kieran.
"Urine can be refreshing when you've gone without water for so long."
Kara made a face and said, "I know you have to make analogies sometimes, but come on. That was gross."
"You got the point, didn't you?"
"Look, we're all falling madly in love with one another, and that's the end," Bella said. "Kara, if you drop my sister, I'm shoving raw Kryptonite up your ass. Understood?"
"Noted."
"If Mom asks where I am, can you tell her I'm with Emma?" Kieran asked.
Bella waved to show that she heard and walked off with Emmett, Tinkerbell, and Rosalie. Ruby stayed in the diner to help with the soon-coming dinner rush, and Kara flew as Kieran directed her to the police station. As they passed over the Town Hall, Kieran pointed out that Sam was still working.
"I look forward to seeing her," Kara said.
"Well, Sam, Ruby, and Jess live with us."
"No, I know. But either that house is not what it looks like, or Regina has me under a hallucination."
"There are three magic users," Kieran said. "We know the basics about extension spells and whatnot."
"Wow. It will take some getting used to being around you guys."
"You fit in nicely with the kinks conversation."
"Only because you underestimated me," Kara said. "I told you I'm nothing like the Girl of Steel that Cat Grant plastered on all of the magazines once upon a time."
"Good. I prefer who you are now. Oh, this is the station."
"Yes, I got that from the police cruisers parked outside," Kara teased.
"Shut up and put me down."
Kara chuckled and lowered them from the sky. They got to the ground and opened the door. Killian, Charlie, and Emma were on one side, and a spiky-haired brunette and an average man with brown hair stood on the other. Kieran's eyes widened, and she pulled Kara behind the wall. They poked their heads around, and Killian spotted them. He shook his head once, and Kara frowned.
"Who is that?" Kara whispered.
"The guy in front is Killian, Captain Hook. That's Emma, obviously, and the guy beside Emma is Charlie, Bella's semi-adopted father."
"And the other two?"
"I think that's Snow and Charming? It's been a long time since I've seen Snow. I hardly remember Charming," Kieran whispered back. "I want to hear what they're saying."
Kara chewed on her bottom lip and spotted a space closer.
"Hold on."
Kara picked Kieran up again and floated off the floor, moving in silence across the room. They landed behind the cabinets to listen to the conversation.
"Emma, this is serious. There are too many new people coming over the border," Snow said.
"What are you talking about?"
"Look, no offense to you, sir, but you're a stranger. I find it hard to believe my daughter randomly hired someone who arrived in town. And I know you said the Mayor signed off on your paperwork. Still, that concerns me for many reasons. And not to mention the two new women working in the Mayor's office. Plus, this child appears at the school and tests high enough to be in the same class as Henry. Regina's up to something. I feel it."
"First, Charlie is an amazing cop, and he and Killian are why this town is still functioning. Second, Regina hired Sam and Jess because she needed an extra set of hands, and she wanted to give her secretary more time away from the job to spend with her family. Lastly, there is no threat coming. We're all in a better place now, and your paranoia isn't helping.," Emma said.
"Emma, sweetheart, I know you think you and Regina are close-
"Regina is someone I care about deeply, so I would watch what you say next, Charming. And don't call me sweetheart."
"Emma, you should show your father some respect."
"I respect those that deserve it. Plus, I refuse to listen to a man that isn't even a real prince. And he's hardly a man worth admiring and emulating."
Kara tensed when Charming stepped forward, but Killian and Charlie moved too. Emma stared at Charming with apathy, and she silently dared him to make a move. Kieran wondered if something else happened between them that Emma hadn't mentioned.
"Okay, this is getting out of hand, and I think we should table this conversation for later. Emma, are you coming home?" Snow asked.
"I'm going to where I've been staying, yes."
"What about Henry? He misses you."
"Don't do that. Henry can come and visit whenever he wants."
"Not if you're staying with Regina."
"That's not your call to make."
"You belong at the loft," Charming gritted out. "With your family. We gave up everything for you to live a good life."
"Spare me. You put me in a portal without any concern about how I would grow up or where I would land."
"We knew you would be safe," Snow argued. "The prophecy-
"-is bullshit!' Emma snapped. "I'm not your precious Savior or Princess. I'm a fucking foster kid who grew up thinking their parents wanted nothing to do with them. I grew up questioning myself every turn of the way, and now I'm in the position where I look in the mirror and don't recognize who I am! You gave up everything for me to have a good life, and I got screwed over every step of the way."
"That is not fair. Emma, please. We just want to keep our family safe! Regina's terrorized us for years, and it's not fair that she gets free reign to do what she wants!"
Emma finally noticed Kara and Kieran in the corner and looked at Snow.
"You want me to trust you? Then tell me about Regina's children."
Snow and Charming tensed, and Snow folded her arms.
"Regina doesn't have any children."
"So who were Isabella, Kieran, and Emmett Mills?" Emma asked coolly.
"Peasants," Charming spat.
"Regina kidnapped them," Snow lied. "She killed their parents out of some sick, twisted desire to be someone's mother."
"Wasn't she yours?"
"Regina was nothing more than a bedmate for my father," Snow said dismissively. "And a poor one at that. My father deserved better than a limp fish. His words, not mine."
Kieran growled under her breath, and her eyes flashed red. Kara didn't get a chance to stop her before Kieran stepped out from behind the cabinets. Snow paled when she saw her. Charming drew his sword immediately, only to find a gun poking into his temple. Killian removed the safety, and Kara came up behind Kieran. Charming glanced between Killian, Kara, and Kieran.
"I suggest you put that away, mate," Killian said. "Or take your chances with a bullet."
"Or me," Kieran warned, forming an icicle with her fist.
"I'm the backup," Kara quipped, sipping her milkshake. "But you do not want to find out what I can do. Trust me."
"Listen to them, Charming," Emma said. "I am not in the mood to clean you off the walls."
Snow hadn't taken her eyes off Kieran, and she said, "You're supposed to be dead."
"Rumors of my death have been highly exaggerated." Emma, Charlie, and Kara snorted in unison, and Killian looked confused. As did Snow and Charming, and Kieran rolled her eyes. "Look, you're lucky I'm in such a good mood. I will let you and your precious prince leave with a warning." Kieran vanished the icicle and blinked, letting her eyes return to normal. "If you so much as breathe in my mother's direction from now on, you will die a slow and painful death, and it will be the most merciful I will ever be. Clear?"
Snow clenched her jaw and nodded, and she touched Charming on the arm.
"Let's go," she said.
Charming twitched but put his sword back in its sheath. Once Killian was sure Charming wouldn't attack, he put his gun away, and Kara relaxed. Snow and Charming glanced again at Emma, who looked away. Snow scowled and stormed from the station with Charming on her heels. Once they were gone, Kieran giggled and held out her hand.
"Pay up, pirate," she teased.
"You couldn't wait a damn day?" he scoffed, rummaging in his pockets.
"Wait, you two made a bet?" Charlie asked.
Kieran did a double-take when she saw him, finally noticing the black eye, and she asked, "Who hit you?"
"Charming," he said. "I wasn't paying attention, and he decked me, dragged me into an alleyway, and demanded to know what Regina was planning. That's when Emma found us, and she brought the party back here."
"I should have killed them," Kieran said.
"You know your sister would be so pissed," Killian responded, passing her a twenty-dollar bill.
"Again, you two made a bet?" Charlie asked.
"I bet that I would be the first person to run into Snow. Rosalie said it would be Emmett, and Emmett said it would be Bella. Killian made the same bet as I did, but he had it for the day after we returned from the other universe."
"Speaking of another universe..." Killian trailed off, looking at Kara.
"Oh, right! This is Kara Zor-El Danvers," Kieran said.
"Her girlfriend," Emma teased.
"She's not-
"I'm not-
"We're not together," they finished in unison.
"Officially," Kara added.
"Please tell me you aren't the Kara Zor-El. As in Supergirl?" Charlie asked. "Bella talked about you so much back in Forks."
"Yes, I am."
"What's so special about you?" Killian asked.
"Remember when I said you should think questions through before you ask?" Emma said. "This is one of those times."
"What? Why?"
Kara passed Kieran her milkshake and rose slowly from the floor. She smirked, and Emma and Charlie moved away from Killian.
"Have you ever seen what Storybrooke looks like from the heavens?"
Killian's response was lost as Kara swooped and grabbed him. The two vanished from the station, and his scream echoed until it didn't. Kieran clicked her tongue against her teeth. She sipped at Kara's milkshake and turned to Emma.
"Have I mentioned how much I hate your mother and father?"
"Once or twice."
"Just checking. We should probably tell Mom that Snow knows we're here now."
"What are the odds Snow isn't going to let this go?" Kieran and Emma glanced at Charlie, and he nodded. "Yeah, that's what I thought," he sighed.
