Wally West leaned against the console in the control deck of the Metro Tower. He smirked as he crossed his arms over his chest and gave the Green Lantern before him an amused look, "Come on John you can't ignore me forever."
"I can if I try hard enough," John muttered to himself.
"I'm telling you old pal of mine this is one of the best ideas I've had recently," Wally nudged John.
John in turn sighed as he shook his head, "Anytime you have a good idea it never goes well."
The speedster lightly frowned, "Nuh-uh that's not true. I've had plenty of good ideas that worked."
John raised an eyebrow, "Really? I must have missed those."
"Haha GL," he sarcastically replied. "I really think it's a good idea if those two meet. Just think about it, my girlfriend and your girlfriend. It'll be a double date."
"I don't think Shayera would be too thrilled with that idea Wally. You know how she gets. She doesn't like being around people she doesn't know," John then sighed. "Besides you don't know how your girlfriend will react to meeting her. If she says something wrong she'll set Shayera off. I'm really not in the mood to be on the receiving end of Shayera's fist if I have to try to hold her back."
"That's not gonna happen. My parents loved her. I'm sure it'll be no different. They'll be fine," Wally waved him off. "Plus I want Linda to meet my whole family. I told her I had an older sister and she wants to meet her."
"Did you even tell her yet that you're the Flash and that your sister is a Thanagarian?" John then shook his head. "And it doesn't matter if your parents liked Linda. Shayera isn't your parents."
Wally tilted his head, "What are you talking about? Linda hasn't met my parents yet."
John gave Wally a confused, "But you just said that your parents loved her."
"Yeah my parents loved Shayera. My Mom goes gaga whenever I bring her over."
John's eyes widened slightly, "Wait hold on for just a minute. Shayera has met your parents? You actually brought her over there? How did you even talk her into doing that?"
"Yeah of course I did," Wally shrugged. "When she first got back with the League she had no one to spend the holidays with. I had to sorta twist her arm but I talked her into coming over for Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Ever since then I've been getting her over there every major holiday. Well that is until you guys got back together. Let me tell you my Dad misses talking about football and baseball with Shayera."
John paused as he stared at the speedster. He was honestly feeling some relief that Wally had gone through such an effort to include Shayera within his own holiday plans. It also reminded him just how close Wally and Shayera had gotten over the years. The two had been good friends when it was just the original seven but they had become very close friends once she returned. This was mainly due to the fact that Wally was one of the few who had accepted her back with open arms and went out of his way to always keep her company when no one else would.
"I gotta hand it to you hotshot, I can't believe you got her to agree to go with you," John smirked at him. "Thanks for doing that. I really appreciate that you did that for her."
Wally gave him a goofy grin, "Aw shucks it was nothing. People think I'm just goofing around when I say it but I really do think of Shayera as an older sister. I'd do anything for her and I know she'd do the same for me if the shoe was on the other foot. Anyway the whole point of this double date thing is to tell Linda about my secret identity. I'm going to teleport her up to the Watchtower with me and bam she finds out her dreamboat boyfriend is also her superhero crush. Great idea right?"
"Or you might make her pass out from the shock," John said to him casually. "Don't you think you'll be over stimulating her with all of that in one night?"
"Nah," Wally shook his head. "Linda is a reporter. She can handle surprises. Trust me on that.
"If you say so," John sighed. "After my monitor shift I'll talk to Shayera about it."
Shayera lightly chuckled as she looked at the screen before her. A rather bruised up Batman was on the other end with a frown planted on his face. As much as Shayera hated monitor duty, small moments like these made it worth her boredom.
"Are you ever going to retire?" Shayera asked him with an amused look.
"Probably sooner than I'd like," he dryly replied.
Shayera smirked a bit, "You'll probably keep going until you have a heart attack."
"You're probably right," he replied in a deadpan tone. "Can I get that transport to the Watchtower sometime today?"
"Yeah, yeah keep your cape on Batman," the Thanagarian replied as she began to type. "I'll teleport you straight to the medbay. I'm sure Alfred wouldn't like it if you got home all torn up like that."
Batman narrowed his eyes, "Just get it over with already."
"Since you asked so nicely," Shayera said as she finished typing. She then sat in silence for a few minutes until one of the buttons on the console began to blink and chirp. She sighed as she pressed the button, "Watchtower."
"Hey Shay," Shayera immediately grinned when she heard John's voice.
Shayera leaned forward as she rested her elbows onto the console and her chin on top of her hands, "Hey yourself Lantern."
"What'cha doing up there?"
"Nothing much," she casually said. "Just some monitor duty. What are you up to down there?"
"Just got off of my monitor duty shift," he replied back. "Trying to find a way to burn some extra time."
"Oh well then aren't you lucky?"
"I guess I am aren't I?" John then paused. "I was going to go on a date later on."
Shayera smirked and raised an eyebrow, "Oh you're going on a date? Who's the lucky girl?"
"Just a redhead with a fiery temper and nasty right hook."
Shayera chuckled, "Sounds like she's a real pain in the ass and like you'll have your hands full tonight. You have any plans for after this date?"
"Well I didn't get that far. I don't know how long the date will be and what she'll want to do afterwards."
"I'm sure she can think of something for you guys to do once home. I'm sure it won't be anything too strenuous."
She heard John chuckle in response, "I'm sure you will Shay. Anyway when you get off of monitor duty I'll meet you in our room up there. We'll be going on a dinner date with Wally in the cafeteria."
Shayera raised an eyebrow and tilted her head, "A dinner date with Wally in the Watchtower? That's a rather odd date and here I thought I was strange with my ideas."
"Wally had this great idea to bring his girlfriend up to the Watchtower to come meet you. That and he wants to reveal his secret identity to her."
"Doesn't that seem like a bit much to do all in one night?"
"That's what I said. Apparently Wally doesn't think so. She hasn't even met his parents yet."
Shayera shrugged, "Mary and Rudy are very nice people. I'm sure they would like her if they like me of all people."
"It would be hard not to like you Shayera. You're lovable the way you are."
Shayera lightly chuckled, "Save the flattery for later tonight when we're alone Lantern."
"I'll try to but I can't promise anything babe."
"Wally, slow down," Linda said to him as he rushed around his apartment. "You're as excited as a puppy who just met a bunch of five-year-olds. How many cups of coffee did you have this morning?"
"Not enough," he quickly replied. "Trust me on that one. My sister agreed to go on a double date with us for dinner and you just got off work and we needed to be there like twenty minutes ago."
"Wally you should have called me and told me earlier. I would have left work early. I don't want to make a bad first impression by being late. You better be taking her to a nice restaurant at the very least."
Wally waved her off, "Don't worry Lin we're going somewhere amazing, trust me. I know how you like surprises."
"I've told you a million times that I hate surprises," Linda raised an eyebrow. "Remember that surprise party you threw for my birthday?"
Wally paused for a moment before scratching the back of his head, "Oh right I forgot. Anyways you'll like this surprise trust me."
Linda sighed, "Alright I'll trust you Wally. I'm pretty much ready to go when you are. I don't need to do my hair or anything."
"Great," Wally grinned as he placed a hand on her shoulder and then a finger to his own ear. "Teleport for two to the Watchtower please."
"Wally what-" Linda was cut off as the two were teleported out of the apartment. Linda would have continued her question but she was overcome with shock and awe at the destination they were teleported to. The reporter simply blinked as she stared wide-eyed around the room.
Wally nudged her arm, "Told ya it would be somewhere amazing."
Linda's mouth moved but no sound came out. Eventually she swallowed and lightly shook her head to bring herself back to her senses, "Wally how did you manage this? How did you even talk the Justice League into letting you come up here? Who do you know in the Justice League who can pull strings like this?"
"Funny you should ask that," Wally smirked as he took out a lightning bolt ring from his back pocket. He slid the ring on and held out his fist in front of him. Just as quickly the ring popped open and the Flash suit came flying out. Within seconds the Flash was standing in front of Linda with his hands on his hips and a cocky grin on his face. "Tada! What do you think?"
Linda's eyes widened as she pointed at him, "You...you're...I mean it's...you of all people...I can't even believe it. You're the Flash?"
Wally zipped over to her and placed his arm over her shoulder, "The one and only cupcake."
Linda then squealed and as she tightly hugged him, "I can't believe this entire time I've been dating the Flash! I get to have my adorable little Wally and the heroic Flash all in one!"
"Adorable huh?" The two looked over to see a Thanagarian with a rather amused look on her face as her arms were crossed over her chest. "At least she didn't call you precious."
Wally pouted, "Just great you had to hear that didn't you?"
"Considering you were late we decided to wait for you here instead," Shayera said to him. "That and John was getting antsy."
"I was not getting antsy," John rolled his eyes.
"Please Lantern you were pacing for the past ten minutes."
Linda just stared in awe as she looked between the two superheroes, "You're Green Lantern and Hawk-"
Wally quickly placed his hand over Linda's mouth and whispered, "Don't call her that. Shayera absolutely hates being called that."
Shayera raised an eyebrow, "Wally I don't expect for civilians to know not to call me Hawkgirl."
The speedster shrugged, "Thought I'd give her some fair warning. Now who's ready for a dinner date?"
Linda tilted her head slightly as she gave Wally a confused look, "But you said we were going out to dinner with your sister. I'm guessing that was some kind of cover story?"
"We are going out with my sister," Wally zipped over and placed his arm over the Thanagarian's shoulder. "You see, Shayera is my older sister. I mean you know not biologically obviously but well we consider each other like siblings." He then zipped over to John and slapped him on the back, causing the Green Lantern to frown, "And John here is my bestest friend ever."
"I'm sure none of this is what you were expecting," John said to her.
Linda shook her head, "Not at all. I'm still getting my head around the fact that Wally is the Flash. Never mind that he's best friends with superheroes and that his sister is an actual alien."
"Very funny, you guys can stop now," Wally frowned as he slouched back in his chair and crossed his arms over his chest. Across from him Linda and Shayera were laughing amongst each other. Wally's frown deepened as the two women ignored him, "Would you two stop laughing already?"
John smirked as he looked over at the speedster, "This was your great idea Wally. I'm sure you didn't plan on them hitting it off so well."
"When you do finally meet her, his mother will definitely tell you about how he needed training wheels on his bike until he was thirteen," Shayera said to Linda. "That and he crashed into the neighbor's rose brush at least three dozen times even with the training wheels on."
"My Mom told you that story?" Wally asked as he felt his cheek begin to heat up. "That...that was supposed to be a secret!"
Linda waved him off as she chuckled, "Relax Wally I'm learning about you. What other stories do you have?"
"Oh I do have a good one his mother told me," Shayera smirked. "It was when he was six-years-old and they took him to the zoo."
"Oh man not the zoo story," Wally groaned as he tilted his head back. "Anything but the zoo story."
"So anyway they take Wally to the Central City Zoo and apparently they have this thing called a petting zoo. They let Wally go in there and," Shayera paused as she chuckled for a brief moment. "And he managed to piss a goat off and it ended up chasing him all over the place. Eventually the goat caught up with him and knocked him to the ground before biting him on the ass. His mother told me that he was scared of goats until he was sixteen."
"I was not scared of goats. I was just cautious around them," Wally insisted as Linda and Shayera began to laugh again. "Stop laughing, it's not funny! That goat was rabid or something and I'm pretty sure it had something against kids." Wally then crossed his arms over his chest as he pouted, "Stupid zoo and their stupid goats.
"Maybe you can take me to the zoo for our next date Wally," Linda lightly chuckled.
The speedster looked unamused as he narrowed his eyes slightly, "Very funny."
"How about I give you a tour of the Watchtower?" Shayera offered to Linda. "I have plenty of other stories about our dear Wally here. Some of them are Justice League related that his mother doesn't know about."
"Absolutely," Linda enthusiastically replied as she stood.
Shayera smirked as she as well stood, "Perfect."
"Hey I was going to show you around the Watchtower after dinner," Wally stated as he watched the two begin to leave the cafeteria. "Guys?"
"Just let them go Wally. You're not going to be able to stop them," John said to him. "At least they're getting along this well. I'm relieved about that."
Wally thought for a moment before grinning, "Yeah I guess you're right. I mean I did figure that Linda would like Shayera. I mean especially after what happened and the article Linda wrote about her."
John raised an eyebrow, "What article?"
"She wrote it after the Thanagarian Invasion happened," he stated. "Linda was one of the few reporters who didn't completely trash Shayera. Her article was pretty sympathetic. I mean she did criticize her a bit but it wasn't over the top. It was fair."
John leaned back in his seat and smirked, "Now I see why you're dating her. She loves the Flash, she thinks you're adorable, she can tolerate your behavior, and she can get along with Shayera."
"That and she's honest and really pretty," Wally gave him smirk. "Then there's other things too. Linda is like the cheese to my wine."
John lightly rolled his eyes as he stood, "Come on chardonnay, let's go catch up with them."
"I can't believe that this place is this huge," Linda stated as she and Shayera were walking down a hallway. "You guys have almost everything up here."
Shayera shrugged, "Bruce Wayne sparred no expense. This place is a palace compared to the old Watchtower. Sure that one was big too but this one is way bigger and has more features in it. We even have a movie room. That's Wally's favorite room up here next to the one with the video games."
Linda remained silent for a moment before she swallowed, "Don't take this the wrong way Shayera."
Shayera frowned and tilted her head. "Take what the wrong way?"
"Just," Linda began hesitantly. "For being superheroes, you guys are like normal people. Even for an alien you act like a normal human, just with wings. I mean I thought you superheroes would be different from us regular people."
"I'll take that as a compliment," Shayera replied with a light smirk. "Just because some of us have superpowers or prowl around at night to takedown bad guys doesn't mean we're any different from those who don't. You have to remember that some of the heroes up here are just regular people too when the mask comes off."
Linda nodded, "Yeah I know. It's still odd to think that someone without powers would go off to face all of that craziness. Don't they get scared?"
"Even those with superpowers get scared Linda," Shayera said to her. "Fear is just a basic emotion that everyone feels. No amount of superpowers can change that."
"I guess that's your way of saying that even you get scared too huh?" Linda asked her with an amused look.
Shayera lightly chuckled, "Perhaps it is but I'm saying nothing in case you accidentally repeat something in front of Wally."
"Don't worry, I know how much Wally likes to blab and run his mouth."
Shayera rolled her eyes, "Isn't that the truth? Now I guess it's my turn. I don't want you to take this the wrong way."
"What is it?"
"It's about you dating Wally," Shayera narrowed her eyes slightly. "I want to make something very clear when it comes to him."
Linda swallowed, "What about me dating Wally?"
"Don't you ever break his heart. You'll have to deal with me if you do that. I'll make sure you have a permanent limp when I'm through with you. Got it?"
Linda timidly nodded and gulped, "Got it."
Shayera smirked in satisfaction, "Perfect, don't worry I do like you Linda. I just had to throw that out there as fair warning."
"I understand. I can also see what Wally was talking about." Shayera gave her a quizzical look so Linda continued, "Just the way Wally talks about you. I can see why he cares about you so much and that you really care about him. You're both really close as if you were actual siblings."
Shayera let out a small, amused snort, "Honestly I do think of him as family and I love him like the brother I never had. Don't repeat that in front of him though. He would never let me live that down if he heard I said that."
Linda shook her head, "Don't worry I won't. I know from what Wally said that you have that tough image you like to maintain."
"That I do. Come on I'll show you the hanger bay where we keep the javelins," Shayera gestured for Linda to follow her. "Plus I have a story about when Wally accidentally crashed four javelins all in one day."
Linda chuckled, "This I can't wait to hear."
