This is something new that I wanted to try. I often imagine crossovers, but have never made one open to be read by anyone. I hope you all like it and please note that, though Cobra Kai has profanity, that is not how I prefer to write. Also, Kaldur's backstory will be altered in this alternate universe as well as how he is now fully human without any Atlantean attributes.
The tech store was the same as it had always been-dull. The problems were similar every time a customer entered. "There's a virus on my computer." Or "It won't let me reset my password." Older employees had grown acclimated to the monotony, but the younger ones were overcome with boredom. Some of them found ways to entertain themselves. For example, a computer with a virus could become a free computer to watch explicit videos on. It would have to be reset anyway, so the owner would be none the wiser. One of those younger employees was Robby. During one of these dull days, the manage came over to Robby-who had perfected his false and endearing smile.
"Robby," he began, "I have a new customer service rep that I want you to train. He'll be here this afternoon." Robby gave a small nod of his head and grinned, "Don't worry. I'll tell him everything he needs to know." The manager smiled, "That's why I'm coming to you." He walked away, missing Robby's eyeroll. A couple of hours passed before noon arrived. Once it had, Robby saw a young man his age enter. Judging from his lack of holding an electronical device, Robby realized that this was the new trainee. The novice employee saw Robby start to walk over and approached him, extending a friendly hand. "It is nice to meet you. I'm Kaldur." Robby accepted the hand and introduced himself. "Let's see how long this jovial act lasts." He thought. "Well, Kaldur, our job here is pretty simple. We just deal with the clients and make them feel at home. All the actual fixing is done by the other guys." He smirked, "They basically just need us because we have people skills." Robby began leading Kaldur throughout the store. "The rules are simple. If there aren't any customers, make sure the shop is clean and when the customers come, make sure their devices get into the back office safely." Kaldur nodded, understandingly, "That does sound rather straightforward." "Told ya." Robby said, going over the counter and slyly checking the time on his phone.
"Almost one now." Robby thought, "They should be coming soon." Kaldur noticed the other boy's change in demeanor, but stayed silent. "If anybody comes in with serious problems-like computers-let me know and I'll take care of those." Robby instructed. Kaldur looked at him in askance. "Why? We need only ensure the devices are safely transported to the back room. Surely, I could complete that task without assistance." His eyes followed as Robby moved from around the corner, crossing his arms. "It's just the order of things around here. Once you've been here longer, you'll get to handle them too." Though still unconvinced, Kaldur nodded. A soft tapping came from the back of the building and Robby's eyes lit up as he turned to the sound. "'I'll check that out. In the meantime, just keep an eye on things all right?" Without waiting for a response, he hurried back. Kaldur turned and saw as a customer came in before cordially greeting her.
The next day, Kaldur spent its morning and afternoon at high school. In the early noon, he joined the others at the cafeteria. The boy quickly took in all the various groupings. There were the rich kids, the unpopular ones, the down to earth people, and just about every type in between. Just as Kaldur was about to ask if he could sit at one of the less crowded tables, he heard a crash. Glancing up, he saw that some kid had been tripped and was currently sprawled out on the floor. "Watch it, Lip." Someone called. Some chuckles rose from the cafeteria while the others glanced away. The kid scrambled to his feet and struggled to pick up the fallen food items. Kaldur and one other kid went over to help him and received a timid, but grateful smile. "They're just jerks." The other helper said. The fallen kid nodded and glanced in Kaldur's direction. "Thanks." He said, quietly. The other helper gave a friendly smile. "I'm Miguel and this is Eli." Once Kaldur stated his name, Miguel said, "You should come sit with us." Kaldur grinned and followed the two back. One other kid was seated at the table they approached and his eyes widened. "I'm Kaldur." The boy greeted. The other kid looked at him in doubt. "New too apparently. Otherwise, you wouldn't be sitting here with us or helping ol' Eli there." Miguel shook his head and gestured to the guy. "And that is Demetri. I'm pretty new here too, so it's not just you."
Miguel started again, excitedly, "There's going to be a Halloween dance, though and I'm trying to convince these two to ask out some girls." Demetri looked horrified. "As you'll soon learn, Kaldur, there are fortunate people in this world and then there's us. The best way to survive is to stay low-key and out of sight as much as possible. We'll have to go to the dance because our absences would be noticed more than we are right now. What we do not have to do is humiliate ourselves by attempting to ask girls out." Kaldur chuckled, quietly, "And you, Miguel? Are you asking anyone?" Miguel glanced toward a table and Kaldur followed his gaze to a brunette. "Her name's Samantha. I tried going over there once before, but it didn't work. Maybe I'll get to ask before the dance, but it seems like it's coming so quickly." "Day after tomorrow." Demetri chimed in. Miguel groaned and Demetri moved the conversation to various video games.
When the day of the dance came, Kaldur was back at the tech store. For the third time in his three days' employment, he was alone to deal with all customers without computer problems. As a customer entered with a laptop under his arm, Kaldur took advantage of the solitude to deal with him. "Good afternoon, Sir. How may I help you?" he asked. The man frowned and placed the computer on the counter. "There's a problem with the screen. It keeps freezing every time I try to use it. How long do you think it'll be 'til it's ready to be picked up?" "It should be ready in no longer than an hour and a half." Kaldur told. The man's frown softened, "That's not too bad. I'll be back by then." "See you then, Sir." Kaldur took the computer back to the tech guys and knocked on their partially opened door. "Hey, someone is having an issue with his screen freezing." He told. One of the guys glanced up from repairing a phone. "Okay, bring it here." Kaldur handed over the laptop and stopped, looking around at the desks. "Looking for something in particular?" He was asked. "Yes." Kaldur started, "Is this the only computer that has been brought in for a few days." Nods were his replies. "All right. I was just curious."
With that, Kaldur left the room and went back to the counter. In half an hour, Robby came to the store and started to go past Kaldur. Before he could, Kaldur said, "Could we speak for a moment?" Robby eyed him for a second. "I guess." They went to the back of the building and Kaldur looked at Robby. "Would you happen to know what happened to the computers?" he asked. Robby tensed, briefly, "Something happened?" Kaldur nodded, "Someone came in with a computer today and when I brought it back, that was the only one in there. They said that there had been none for the past few days." Robby put his hands in his pockets and shrugged, "What made you bring it back?" Kaldur glanced at him, nonchalantly, "Mainly your absence." Robby stood up straighter, "Look, if you're accusing me of something, just spit it out." "I am not trying to accuse you, just ask. What did you do with the laptops if not bring them to be repaired?" The other boy diverted his eyes from Kaldur's. "I'm not stealing them. We're just using them for a little bit. The owners are told a longer waiting period, so they don't notice." The two were in silence for a long moment before it was broken by Robby. "So, do you plan on telling the manager or something?" Kaldur looked at him, intensely, "No." The other boy's head tilted in shock. "But you need to get the devices back so that they can actually be worked on." Kaldur began to walk back into the building. He paused for a moment and said, "Also, I'll handle the computers from now on." A small frown formed on Robby's face as he watched him leave.
That evening, Miguel strode into the high school clad in his new skeleton costume. He met up with Demetri who had come as a necromancer and Eli who had disguised himself as a plastic surgeon. Miguel grinned when he saw Kaldur enter with a simple vampire costume. "Have you asked Samantha to dance yet?" Kaldur asked him. The boy's face dropped and he lowered his eyes. "No, and my sensei keeps telling me to strike first." Kaldur turned away to locate where Samantha was. Her costume made her easily recognizable and he gestured to her with his head. "Well, she is right there if you ever do plan on asking." He added for the others, "And she is with two of her friends." A sparkle of interest lit up in Eli's eyes, but Demetri was steadfast. "For the last time, we're not humiliating ourselves." Kaldur sighed, "If you do not want to ask them, there are plenty of other people here. Just try asking someone." Demetri seemed intrigued by the concept of experimenting, but lost his nerve when he saw all the girls in the room. "Uh, I think I need to use the bathroom or something."
Demetri rushed off, though Eli lagged behind. "Eli?" Miguel prompted. The teenager shook his head. "Sorry, they'll just make fun of my lip." He followed after Demetri and Miguel said, exasperated, "But you're wearing a mask." Miguel frowned after them and turned back to where Samantha was dancing. When a larger boy in a pirate costume approached her, a defeated-looking Miguel spun back around to Kaldur. "Demetri and Eli are probably right. There's really no use competing with those guys." He slinked off after the two and Kaldur leaned against a wall, disappointedly. He grumbled as he saw the pirate walk away from Samantha and go to the bathrooms too. "Miguel could have either gone earlier or waited." He mused, annoyed. Glancing around, the teenager really saw how the various cliques had nearly created themselves a caste system. There were only a few people who were at the top, but they dictated what was acceptable for everyone else. If they deemed someone uncool, the entire school seemed to shun that person. They were the untouchables and changing their status was almost impossible.
Determination settled itself in Kaldur as he saw a girl who looked as though she had only come to not be absent as well. She stood alone by the snack table and would turn slightly when she heard snickering laughter rise. "What a pig." Kaldur heard someone say, just loud enough for the girl to hear. She self-consciously moved away from the table and looked, longingly, at the door. She jumped when she felt someone come up to her. Instinctively, she prepared herself for an insult, but received a hand instead. "I'm Kaldur. Would you like to dance?" Her eyes opened in surprise as she looked up at the boy. Timidly, she accepted the offer. "Okay, I'm Aisha." Kaldur smiled, warmly, at her and led her to the dance floor. Though they were not in the center, all eyes had fallen on them. Aisha tensed under the attention. "Maybe we should stop." She suggested, "No one's going to want to go out with you if you keep dancing with me." Kaldur's kind expression did not falter. "Then, I suppose I will be spared from dating a shallow individual." A small grin crept its way across Aisha's face as they continued. Soon, the novelty of the act had ended, and the students found better ways to focus their attentions. A tired Aisha took deep breaths and laughed. "That was pretty fun." She admitted. "Thanks." Kaldur chuckled also, "I enjoyed it as well. Hopefully, I will be able to introduce you to-" He stopped short when he saw Eli and Demetri running out from where the bathrooms were. Aisha saw the concern on his face. "What happened?" Kaldur waited a second to see if Miguel were accompanying them. When he realized the two were alone, he said, "I am not sure yet."
Kaldur briskly walked to the restrooms and panic rose in his chest as he heard sounds of struggling. When he turned a corner, he saw Miguel getting dragged and the pirate kid picking up a racket. Just as the pirate started to close a gate, Kaldur forced it back. The pirate took a step backwards in shock before trying to use the weapon to hit Kaldur. The attack was easily blocked and Kaldur disarmed him. "Just release Miguel." He told, calmly. Kyler scoffed, "You mean Rhea? Or what? You think that we're afraid of you?" He tried another attack with a punch, but was side-stepped and punched in the stomach. A swift kick to the back of his knees sent him stumbling to the ground. The guys who had been restraining Miguel released him and came to their leader's aid. They surrounded Kaldur, but when one came too close, he was kicked in the side. The hit sent him into another boy and they both fell. The largest of the bunch lunged at Kaldur and held his arms behind his back as Kyler got back to his feet. He got a punch in to Kaldur's stomach, but when he tried for the face, Kaldur moved and the boy behind him was hit. This made the grip loosen enough so that he could get out of it. When the large boy attempted another lunge, Kaldur redirected him into Kyler. The flung boy hit his head on a locker door, rendering him unconscious. Kyler struggled to stand.
"Stay down." Kaldur ordered. Scowling, Kyler said, "You watch your back. All of you. You won't always be there to protect them from us and one day, you'll get yours too." Kaldur's frown turned into a glare and he bent down to Kyler's level before lifting him up to his own by his throat. "If you ever jump my friends again…" He squeezed the boy's windpipe until Kyler let out a yelp. "Understand?" Kyler quickly nodded, unable to verbally clarify. He was promptly dropped back down to the ground with a thud. Miguel and Kaldur exited the restrooms with the former practically jumping for joy. "I can't thank you enough. That was dope!" he exclaimed. Kaldur still looked upset, but nodded. "Do not mention it." Miguel's mouth dropped open, "I've got to tell my sensei." This peaked Kaldur's interest and he looked at him. "Why?" "Why? Because you can fight. You've got to join our dojo." Before any protesting could begin, he pointed to several posters stuck on lockers and said, "Just come after school tomorrow. I'll show you where we are. If you don't love it, I won't mention it again." Kaldur looked at the posters and pondered. After several moments, he stated, "All right. I will check it out."
