Trick or safety
Tommy was disappointed as he joined Susie dressed as Doc McDialing trick or treating.
While he loved being Reptar for Halloween and his mommy and daddy cooed over Trixie being a bunny, it was unfair to him that she couldn't get candy too.
Whatever choking hazard was, he didn't like it.
"That means Trixie can't have what we get because it'll hurt her if we do," Susie explained.
"So maybe we have to find something that won't hurt her when we find it!" Tommy beamed.
Susie nodded and though Tommy hated a missed opportunity to explore the neighborhood, he felt better staying with a sleeping Trixie so she wouldn't get scared by the strangers around them.
As they passed house after house, Tommy's smile slowly faded as he thought he had failed while Susie had her Sheepie the sheep and Stuffy the dinosaur toys as part of the Doc McDialing line pat his back sympathetically.
Until a bag of stuffed animals and other toys caught his eye at Ms. Daily's house.
He remembered his mommy bringing her a funny food that wiggled weeks ago which she had accepted with a smile so he reached out for the bag as Ms. Daily came out on her front porch.
"Our apologies. Tommy's a little curious about that bag you have next to the candy bowl," Didi explained.
"It's okay Mrs. Pickles. I don't mind," Ms. Daily smiled. The young woman knelt down to Tommy's level, patting the head of his Reptar costume. "This bag here? I use it to help little fellas like you enjoy Halloween when you can't eat candy just yet." He pointed to Trixie and babbled happily. "You want to get one for your sister too?"
"Yes ma'am as Tommy was sad she couldn't get any," Susie explained.
"Well then why don't you help him look and see what he thinks she'll like okay Doc?"
Tommy beamed at her suggestion. Finally a grownup who didn't leave his little sister out of all the fun!
It took a while but Tommy managed to find a princess plush for Trixie and a dinosaur for himself with Susie's help as his daddy took him in his arms.
The princess doll was put on a shelf once the family was home but as Tommy snuggled with his new dinosaur toy, he had something to consider.
Despite Phil, Lil, and Chuckie being unable to join due to ear infections or trick or treating in their own neighborhood with Angelica probably scaring some poor defenseless baby in her own neighborhood as his mommy and daddy weren't too comfortable with her being near Trixie again just yet, he had fun being with Susie.
Most of all, he was happy with helping Trixie feel included in the Halloween festivities as Tommy went to sleep and dreamed happily.
