University of Zootopia
Judy Hopps was standing in front of the University of Zootopia; she has worked so hard to get here. She knew all her hard work was already paying off. She let herself feel both pride and joy for proving her parents wrong. They never thought she could do it and even tried setting her up with buck after buck in hopes of changing her mind.
Better luck next time!
In front of her stood the largest University Zootopia has to offer; it wasn't the best university Zootopia has to offer. When it came to the criminal justice degree this was the best school to get it from. Due to this the waiting lists were long, but here she stood. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath and caught the scent of the flowers that were past their time of picking. As well as the smell of freshly watered plants. She opened her eyes and finally mustered the courage to walk through the doors. She was wearing her checkered pink plaid shirt and her light blue jeans. She had just been dropped off by the taxi she took from the train station. She was getting tired of carrying her luggage everywhere she went and couldn't wait to get into her dorm and finally rest. She carried 2 suitcases and her hand-held travel pack. As she made her way down the dorm building and into the elevators; she couldn't believe how many different mammals attended this school. Of course, she knew that in Zootopia prey and predators lived together without issue but seeing more predators interacting with prey mammals than she was used to seeing in bunny burrow is such an amazing feeling.
As she got off the elevator and onto floor #5, she made her way down the right of left side of the corridor. It was nothing fancy the walls were white, and the floor was a typical wooden floor. The only difference was the different numbers on the doors. She stopped at door number 42 and took out the card she was mailed to unlock the door. As she walked in, she noticed the dull looking dorm. It consisted of a single wooded bed with a mattress on the right corner and a white desk in left corner of the room. There was also a dresser next to the door in her left and a full-length mirror on the right side of the door. It wasn't fancy, the walls were a white eggshell color with a little beige. The room was what she was paying for. She had gotten a full ride for her 4-year degree, but even that had its limits. The room was missing the warm feeling of her cozy room back in bunny burrow, but this would have to do. The furniture and floor looked slightly dusty, but nothing that a little dusting and Swiffer couldn't fix.
Can't wait to get started!
Judy started cleaning and unpacking her luggage. After she was done the room looked full of life now that her stuff occupied the room. She admired her work and sat down to rest. Tomorrow will be a better day; she couldn't wait for the orientation tour and finally getting her books from the library. Judy got into her nighttime routine early, consisting of taking a shower, changing into her carrot print pajamas, brushing her teeth, and muzzle time with her parents. Her call to her ended up being exactly what she was expecting. Making sure she hasn't changed her mind, encouraging her to go out and meet a nice buck, and her dad giving her the same lecture he did when she was getting in the train earlier today.
Judy awoke to the sound of her alarm clock going off. Reaching over she turned the alarm off and checked the time, it was 5:30am. She untangled from the comforter she had set on the bed yesterday while unpacking and got up to grab er bathing supplies. Judy had to use the communal showers in that floor. She made her way down the hall and into the shower rooms. After getting back she dressed in a figure hugging, black, sleeveless and turtleneck shirt. She combined it with her white slightly ripped jeans. She decided to look her best as the first day of school is all about first impressions. She knew her country bumpkin clothes wouldn't do. On last thought before leaving, she opted for a small carrot shaped necklace her mom gave her for good luck.
As she made her way out of the dorms, she couldn't contain her excitement at finally being here. Yesterday was so stressful with the moving and unpacking that it hadn't set fully that she was indeed here. As she approached the entrance, she couldn't help but twirl in her excitement. The smell of fresh flowers that adorned the entrance of the school did increase her jitteriness. Halfway through her twirl she hadn't realized how many students were gathering in the front entrance. She ended up bumping into something soft. As she opened her eyes, she looked directly to the person she bumped into ready to apologize for being a dumb bunny and not realize that she wasn't the only one there. Judy was meet with a torso of someone taller than her. As she looked down and up slowly, she was able to take in the other mammal's attire. It was dark blue jeans, white shirt and black leather jacket. As she neared the mammals face, she realized the mammal had red fur and cream almost white undercoat. She had bumped into a fox. As she met his eyes amethysts eyes met green emerald. She couldn't help but linger a little too long as she swam in emerald. That was until he snapped his fingers.
"Like what you see?" said the fox with a smug grin and half lidded eyes.
"I didn't intend on bumping in to anyone… You see it's my first day here and I go—" that was all she was able to say before he cut her off.
"I don't blame you I am quite the handsome" He finished by pointing at her nose and winking.
Only now did she notice her nose has been twitching ever since he spoke to her the first time. Judy tried with all the energy to stop the little appendence from adding to her embarrassment. Clearly not before the fox noticed.
"Don't stop it now, it's quite cute to see how flustered you get when I point it out" She could feel the heat rising in her ears and cheeks. She mustered all the strength she had left to at least appear to be mad before the weird feeling in the bottom of her stomach could get the best of her and let a smile creep into her muzzle.
"Don't call me cute!" said Judy
"Don't get you tail in a twist, carrots" replied the very smug fox
"My name is not carrots! It's Judy." The fox could see a very clear effort to stop her nose from twitching when her nose seemed to flinch slightly. It amused the fox to see how easily he could get the bunny Infront of him started. However, because of this he decided it was time to take it down a notch and introduce himself.
"Ok Judy, but don't expect me to call you that. I much prefer the name carrots. I'm Nick, Nick Wilde." Saying this Nick extended his hand out to greet Judy.
Judy didn't know what to think, clearly Nick is rude. This was due to how inconsiderate he was; he didn't even apologize for offending her by using the c word that only rabbits can use with other rabbits.
Carrot sticks, I might as well accept his paw before I'm late to orientation. Otherwise, I wouldn't be a good impression to be late on the very first day. Even if it's only orientation.
With that in mind Judy lifted her paw in order to shake it, only for him to take his paw back the moment she was close enough to take it.
"You are so full of it; you know that Wilde?" At this point Judy was mentally kicking herself for thinking that the fox in front of her would ever take her seriously given how he has been acting since she bumped into him.
Nick's grin only widened in amusement, "You're no fun."
He watched as the bunny walked away furiously clenching her paws into a fist. He was rather pleased with himself; he wasn't here to make friends. But he'd be dammed to pass up an opportunity to have a little fun at someone else's expense. He couldn't help himself as the opportunity presented itself, and this early into a new school
"This is going to be fun" he said to no one as he made his way into the school trailing behind the bunny at a reasonable distance. He still had places to go to, and right now he needed to be on his way to orientation.
Judy was making her way down the hall; it was your typical white walls and wooden flooring. Occasionally she would see billboards with announcements and shelves with trophy's that was surrounded by a glass enclosure. This was to make sure nobody steeled it. And she passed multiple classrooms. On each side until she took a left turn at a 4-corner hall. All leading to different directions. But the hall on her left was the one that contained the stairs to the second floor. As she made her way up the brown steps all she could think about was how irritating Nick was when she bumped into him. At first, she tried apologizing to him, but if she would have known he would have been so self-observed she would not have done such thing. She would have left right then and there. She could not think about that right now; she knew she had to make a good first impression when she walked into orientation. She knew that not everyone in orientation was going to have the same classes with her, but if she had any chance in making friends, she would have to do so after orientation or even in orientation. She was approaching the large double doors that read "Library" at the top od said doors. That was where orientation was going to be healed. She stopped about 20 feet from the doors. Judy knew she had to take a deep calming breathe if she wanted to enter the double doors with the same excited feeling that she had before the unlucky encounter with the fox. Of course, faith had other plans.
Nick was rounding the corner when he saw the bunny had stopped a few feet away from the double doors. He didn't have to pounder because she made that choice. It was clear she was still upset about earlier. If the bunny continuous clenching of paws wasn't proof enough. He could also pick up the couple of deep breathes the bunny was taking. He decided maybe she just needed a little push. Nick was nearing the Judy when he decided to continue walking towards the double doors. She didn't know he was here for orientation as well. While passing her he noticed her eyes were closed so she didn't notice him walking by. He made a point to continue slowly as to not notify her of his presence. By the time he reached the double doors, he opened both at the same time by pressing the handicap button on the side of the right door. As the doors slowly opened, he walked in only to stop a few inches away from the door in a way that he was visible to the students in the library and still in range for the bunny to see him clearly. Not that she didn't know who he was already.
"Are you stalking me or are you here for orientation too?" Asked a very smug Nick, his signature half lidded eyes per usual plastered on his face. He watched as the bunny flinched at initially hearing the voice, she heard outside the school not so long ago.
Sweet cheese and crackers…
Judy could not believe the nerve of the fox. As she was taking calming breathes, she didn't notice the fox passing by her until he spoke in a loud enough voice for her to hear. She knew if she could hear it the students inside the library could to. Since he was standing just beyond the double doors. She could feel heat rising into her cheeks full force. She was sure her ears were a crimson red by now. The fox was sure to tease he about this if he really is as rude as he was earlier. All Judy could do now was brace herself for whatever response came from the fox no matter the way she chose to answer. She did however choose not to answer as she started moving towards the library.
She lowered her ears to hide the furious blush from showing. She still wasn't sure why she was blushing so hard. It had to do with the embarrassment the fox put her through, she told herself. As she walked in, she noticed the same wide range of mammals in the room. All looking at her because of the scene the fox decided to show at her expense. She searched for an empty seat in the various tables that were filled with mammals. The only two places she did notice an empty chair on had vast differences. All the tables in the middle of the library were round. To either side of the center where the tables were located was countless rows of bookshelves. Even stairs at the very end of the room that lead to the second and third floor with more rows of books. The two tables she saw that has the available chair, seated different mammals. On the first one she saw was sitting a light tan fennec fox, grey timber wolf, a striped tiger, and a honey badger. On the other table she saw a chubby cheetah, an artic shrew, gazelle, and a sheep. She opted to have a seat with them. Specially since the fennec and the honey badger seemed to sport an almost identical smirk as Nick.
Nick watched as a very embarrassed bunny walked past him. He also noticed how everyone seemed to be looking at the bunny with uncertainty, hint of amusement and confusion. He knew this had to be the most entertaining scene since they walked in the library. Given how a few mammals seemed to be dozing off in the far-left corner of the tables. He shrugged it off as he made his way through some tables until reaching a very familiar tables with faces, he recognized.
"Did you really have to go ahead and embarrass her like that?" Asked a very unimpressed honey badger.
"That's Nick for you" Boomed a very deep voice from the fennec fox. Surprising the tigress siting in the same table.
Nick shrugged as his only response to the question Honey asked. He knew she wasn't waiting for his response. He has known Honey since the 4th grade when she transferred to the same elementary school he went to. She knew him all too well but insisted on asking the same ridiculous questions.
As Judy sat on the only empty chair in the table: she noticed the almost sympathetic looks she got from everyone seated in the table. She opened her mouth to address them, but not before the teacher in charge of the orientation cut her off.
"Good morning, everyone, it's nice to see everyone made it. I noticed the two last mammals to walk in here decided it was best to break the ice. So, let's give them a chance to continue by introducing themselves." Said a very smug looking armadillo as she pointed one of her hooves to Nick and the other to Judy.
Nick stood from his chair and started speaking before Judy could even open her mouth.
"Hello everyone, my name is Nick, Nick Wilde with an E at the end. I'm here for the same reason as everyone else. For a bachelor's degree." As he addressed the crowd, he did so with his signature smirk and half lidded eyes.
"I would like to give the spotlight over to my not-so-secret admirer" He winked at Judy at the end of his introduction.
Judy could feel her blush coming in at full force and all she could do was lower her ears and hope it would make it better. She fidgeted with her paws a little before shyly addressing the crowd.
"My name is Judy Hopps, and I'm here for my criminal justice bachelor's degree in hopes of becoming a police officer in the near future" As Judy finished introducing herself, she noticed multiple mammals trying to hold in their laughter but ultimately failing. Except for a unique looking hare and the mammals seated in the same table as her. Only after looking around the room did she notice the mischievous looking smirk sent her way by Nick and couldn't help but realize she didn't rebut Nick's claim of her being his secret admirer.
"A..and I'm not your secret admirer" She almost squeaked before sitting down and dropping her head into her crossed arms in front of her.
This day could not have gone any worse.
She could hear chuckles omitting from most of her fellow classmates in the room. This only made her flop her ears on the table in hopes of making herself as little as possible in the chair and disappear.
"Alright everyone settles down; we are not here to make fun of someone's horrible sense of humor." The armadillo eyed Nick.
"You're welcome," said a very smug Nick.
"Why don't we go around the room and introduce ourselves, lets start with Nick's table" She pointed in the direction of Nick.
"Hello, my name is Honey Badgerson, and I am here for my bachelor's in technology" said the Honey badger as she stood and gave a slightly stiff wave. Only to sit back down when she was interrupted.
"Whatsup, I'm Finnick" was all Fennec fox said uncaringly as he remained seated next to Nick.
"Hi, I'm Jason Wolford, and I'm here for my criminal justice degree" A grey timber wolf waved eagerly at everyone in the room as he spoke
The striped tiger sitting next to him spoke in a soft whisper so no one else could hear what she said as she told Wolford to relax and sit down. After he sat the tiger stood up and introduced herself.
"My name is Samantha Fagmayer, but my close friends call me Sam. I'm here for my criminal Justice degree in hopes of becoming a police officer after graduation." She gave a fake salute to everyone in the room and turned to sit.
"Nice meeting you guys, and I hope to see more of you as I am one of the teachers that teaches a class in this area. Criminology is my class name" The armadillo smiled as she pointed in in the direction of Judy's table.
"Ok, now it's this tables turn to introduce yourselves, Except Judy of course"
Judy was able to calm down while everyone faced the table where the red fox sat. She was looking up at her fellow classmates to see who would introduce themselves first.
"Good to see everyone here, can't wait to get to know all of you. My name is Benjamin Clawhauser, and I am here to get my Criminal Justice degree like most of you. One fun fact about me is I love donuts." Said a very cheery and enthusiastic chubby cheetah as he waved frantically around the room.
"My name is Dawn Bellweather, and I am here to get my bachelor's in business administration" Behind the voice was a small sheep that stood confidently in her chair and greeted everyone with only a slight hand wave. She sat after and smiled after seeing the teacher nod in comprehension.
Benjamin had the small artic shrew climb on his palm and raised her to help her get everyone's attention while she introduced herself.
"Hi everyone, I'm Fru Fru Big and I am here to get my bachelors in fashion design. I hope to one day be a known dress fashion designer."
Judy waved at the very sweet artic shrew and mouthed silently "nice to meet you". The shrew thanked her, and Benjamin sat her comfortably on the table next to him once more. Judy noticed the weird looks that were thrown at the artic shrew some of them more obvious than others like confusion, tension, shocked, and most confusing one of all scared. She opted to ignore them; so far Fru Fru hadn't done anything to earn that type of reaction. She made a mental note to ask about it later.
A white furred artic fox vixen stood up from her chair and started introducing herself.
"Good morning fellow classmates, my name is Skye Winter's I'm here to obtain my degree in Criminal Justice. I wish everyone luck in their chosen degree" As she said this Judy couldn't help but notice the vixen talked with some type of accent. It complemented the vixen well and it was proven when a few mammals started whistling and "cat calling" her. Even though Judy thought it was rude to interrupt someone when they are introducing themselves; she had to agree that the vixen was pretty. She wore light blue skinny jeans and a white button up form fitting shirt with the first and second top buttons left undone. This caused her shirt and jeans to show off her curvy figure.
The only other mammal in the table sat up and began speaking.
"My name is Gazelle, and I am here to get my bachelor's in visual and performing arts" As she said this, she noticed most of the room could not contain their excitement. The suppressed squeals that most of the mammals were struggling to conceal wasn't enough of proof she didn't know what was. She managed to keep her excitement to a minimum; the last thing she wanted was to embarrass herself further. Specially in front of her favorite artist of all times. Who so happened to be sitting across from her on the same table.
The introduction of students continued; a rhino called Jackson McHorn, a lion named Davion Delgado, an elephant by the name of Francine, polar bear named Jason Snarlov, Max Grizzoli a white timber wolf, and the last name she heard before she stopped paying attention was Jack Savage a white hare with black horizontal stripes down his face, ears, and arms.
Once everyone was introduced the professor took them out of the library and gave the freshmen a map of the layout of the school while they took a tour of the most important areas that each student had to know about the school. After 2 hours orientation was dismissed; Judy was able to go back to her dorm without incident. She can't call her day a success due to the humiliating ordeal she had to endure this morning over a self-obsessed red fox, but she was able to become friends with everyone who sat in the same table as she did in the beginning of orientation.
She may have encountered a setback today, but she knew her first day of classes would be different.
Before going to sleep that night Judy double checked (more like triple checked) her bookbag and made sure all the books she would be needing tomorrow morning were there (it's Sunday). She also laid out clothes on top of her desk so tomorrow she would be able to get ready pretty fast. She wanted to get to the campus an hour early to locate both classes she'd have to attend tomorrow and still have 30 minutes left to get breakfast at the cafeteria. She went on her regular nighttime routine and went to sleep an hour earlier than usual.
Author's Notes: Hello guys, this is my very first story I have ever written. Of course it's Wilde/Hopps if it wasn't already obvious (Just take a look at my username). I have been inspired by sooo many fanfiction writers. I have been reading Zootopia fanfiction for almost a year; I have lost count on how many stories, but I can say they have all been amazing. Please let me know what you guys think, or give me ideas on what you guys want to see in the future of Nick and Judy. At the moment I have no idea were I want this story to go. Thank you for reading, best of wishes!
