Welcome to my Mega Man Star Force fanfiction! For those of you that don't know, this fanfiction is basically a Starforce storyline transitioned into the modern world (so like real cities, countries, takes place around 2021). My initial plan was to have an MCU-like structure, where there are origin stories and plots centered around one hero (like this fanfiction), and then "Avengers" type stories where these individuals band together to take on a bigger supervillain, and with all of the stories interconnected to one another. However, because I never got past this first fanfiction (which would be Geo's origin story), this time around I just want to take it one step at a time, one story at a time, one chapter at a time. Of course, that "Avengers" type Starforce fanfiction is still the endgame (haha see what I did there?) but as long as this fanfiction, in particular, is completed fully, I will be satisfied with what I've done.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Starforce yet, I hope I can get you interested and immersed in its universe and characters.
And for those of you who are, I hope this is the best iteration of Starforce that you have read yet.
Chapter 1:
(On the outskirts of Planet FM, 3 years ago)
"Chase, look outside the window! It's a planet! We're saved!"
A spherical object could be seen on the horizon. It didn't look like a regular asteroid either, and when their space station got closer to the foreign object, they realized it was larger than an asteroid; it was their way out alive.
"We have to tell Kelvin about the news. Let's finally get the hell out of this damned spaceship."
The body of the space station stretched upward to what seemed like forever. Its towering frame was supported by boosters the size of a building and surrounded by a couple of massive antenna structures that revolved around the center of the station. It was once the peak of human civilization and innovation. The elaborate space station, known as "Peace" was as big as the movement behind its creation. And now, lost in space forever, without any communications with Earth, it was as big as the hope that was crushed from its disappearance. Millions and millions of miles away from Earth, any average human would be forever demoralized if they were aboard this aimlessly drifting station…
"Hit me!" a spiky-brown-haired man exclaimed.
A black-haired man across the table eyed him in amusement. Sliding his hand to the center of the table, he flipped the first card atop the deck and then smashed it onto the table. He drew a 5-of-hearts; his hand was a 16.
"21. Kelvin wins again." The dealer slumped into his chair in disappointment, along with the rest of the crew partaking in the blackjack game. Meanwhile, the jubilant Kelvin gathered all of the fake casino chips and pulled them onto his side of the table, laughing and teasing his sadden crewmates. Everyone knew what that meant. Once again, Kelvin would be allowed to eat an extra pouch of rations the following day.
Of course, the crew was beginning to run out of things to eat, but that didn't stop them from continuing on with these bets. They were probably going to die anyway; so why go out in despair?
"I swear to god Kelvin is somehow cheating, I swear to god. Even when he's on the losing side halfway in, he always finds a way to win," a man beside Kelvin jokingly said.
"Iver, it's just Blackjack. How am I even supposed to cheat? Besides if you guys want these garbage rations tomorrow you can have-"
Suddenly, Chase barged into the astronauts living room area. He took a second or two to breathe, before announcing the reason for his sudden entrance.
"You guys! I- I think we found another planet!"
The entire group jumped up out of their seats, a sudden surge of hope filling the room. Perhaps they wouldn't die alone in outer space. Perhaps there was a chance they would survive. Eagerly, they all headed to the space station's main control room.
"See? I told you we found another…
planet…" Chase said, his expression that was once full of hope, now in fear.
What he once thought was a singular planet, was now revealed to be two, and what he thought could've been a peaceful entrance on a planet seeking refuge, now looked like death, destruction, and war.
The two sister planets seemed like they were at war with one another, and one side seemed like they were winning. Soldiers, which looked like energy beings, lined up in formations, firing energy beams and bullets at the other side. The humans aboard the Peace space station couldn't fathom how these living beings were in combat in the space between their planets, but even more so, how they would survive what seemed like their impending doom.
"What should we do," Iver asked. Instantly the entire astronaut crew looked at their leader Kelvin for answers.
Kelvin looked at the scenery of war in front of him and weighed his options. It seemed like death either way, either from being destroyed by a foreign alien race or starving to death on a lost space station. Well, if they were going to die, they should at least go out in a bang.
"Let's try to land on the winning planet and sue for peace."
(Planet FM, 3 years ago)
"Commander Taurus, there's a spaceship approaching our atmosphere," an EM being said as he ran up to the bull-shaped being.
Taurus was, like the rest of the people of Planet FM, an energy being, his arms, torso, and horns all composed of electromagnetic waves which resembled ever-burning fire. Beside him was an average FM-ian, known as a virus. Though their physique is almost undifferentiated from each other, they live, fight, and socialize the same as any other person in the universe. Taurus' unique and stronger anatomy is an exception in the FM-ian race, which is why he's is the commander of an FM army.
"Destroy it, the same way we will destroy the AM-ians," Taurus said. The FM virus beside him, hesitant to speak up in fear of Taurus stood silent for a moment, before finally having the courage to speak against Taurus' command.
"With all due respect commander, this is a physical ship, so it's clearly not made from Planet AM. We don't want to start another war amidst our current one."
Taurus reluctantly gave in. He was, however, curious about why a spaceship would knowingly enter Planet FM at a time at this. All of Planet FM's neighboring planets were well aware of their current war with Planet AM. Perhaps it was foreign diplomats concerned about the economic aftermath of the war? Still, that was Cepheus' job, not his. His job was to win the war for Planet FM.
"Fine. But that ship should know where King Cepheus' palace is, so it's not our concern right now."
"Actually commander, that ship is headed straight towards us right now."
"What-"
Taurus looked up into the sky and saw a space shuttle slowly but surely land on Planet FM soil. It was a long process, and the FM-ians that were present stared at the ship's primitive landing in awkwardness. Finally, the spaceship landed and out came the desperate human astronauts. Not recognizing any of the humans as allies from another planet, Taurus immediately raised an eyebrow.
"Who are you? What is the meaning of this?" Taurus asked the astronauts.
"We come in peace, I swear," Kelvin said with a concerned look on his face. "We're humans from Planet Earth and we were lost in outer space without much supplies. We're simply asking for help."
It was believable for Taurus. He didn't recognize these foreigners, nor did he recognize the name of their planet: "Earth." He also didn't think they were that much of a threat, if at all, considering the astronauts' rather clunky ship. Still, the FM-ians were at war, and they didn't have the time nor the resources to give to these desperate humans. It'd be better if they were locked away and forgotten about.
"We don't have time to deal with this," Taurus announced. "Send these humans to a prison and we'll deal with this later."
"Roger that, commander."
The FM soldiers began to surround the astronauts. Handcuffed, escorted, and defeated, they followed the FM-ian soldiers toward a city prison. They'd be in prison for years, but at least they weren't dead.
(New York City, 3 years ago)
"When will you come home, Dad?" a young boy asked. Kelvin smiled as he hugged his son. "Why can't I go on the space station too?"
To any passerby, it was obvious that the boy was Kelvin's son. The 12-year-old boy shared the spiky brown hair and eyes that his father has, and naturally, he shared his love of astronomy as well.
"You have to stay home to protect Mom, remember?" Kelvin said.
The boy didn't argue back, but it was clear he wasn't satisfied with the outcome. He loved space and he loved his father but in the foreseeable future, he wasn't going to see either.
"Here, Geo. Why don't I give you this?" Kelvin said as he took off a golden star-shaped pendant wrapped around his neck and gave it to his son.
"Do you know what this symbol means, Geo?" The young boy shook his head. "That
symbol represents hope. When everything seems lost, when all your efforts have failed, this symbol is a reminder to never give up. The people I know at WAZA believe in this symbol, and I hope that someday you will too."
Kelvin laid the pendant around Geo's neck and gave him one last hug before leaving their house to go to the brand-new space station: "Peace." Geo held onto the pendant that his father gave him. He knew what WAZA is, how powerful an organization they are, and was worried that his father's message had some kind of cryptic, pessimistic implication behind it, though his father's next few words gave him some ease.
"I'll be home soon, Geo! Save some of mom's curry for when I get back, will ya?" Kelvin said, waving goodbye to his son. Geo smiled at his dad's remark and returned the gesture.
"See you soon, Dad!"
That scene kept repeating in Geo's mind for weeks to come. He didn't expect his father to be back from his space mission so soon but like all adolescents, he was impatient. He wanted his father to be back from his trip early, and so when the doorbell rang in the middle of the night weeks later, Geo expected exactly that.
The young boy began frolicking down the steps from his bedroom to the living room, and the sound he heard on the other side made him instinctively and unusually stiff. Outside the door, Geo could hear his mother weeping. But why? Checking to see if his mother was in danger, Geo swung the door open to see his mother soaking the dining room table, and a solemn Aaron Boreal trying his best to comfort her.
"Mom? Are you ok? What's Mr. Boreal doing here?" Geo asked. But no one responded.
The slightly-overweight uncle figure to Geo noticed his entrance into the dining room and walked over to hug him. Geo's mother, Hope Stelar, was the one crying first, but Aaron soon followed suit.
"I'm sorry, Geo," Aaron cried. "I'm so sorry."
Geo started to realize what this meant, though he wanted a solid answer before he confirmed his worst nightmare.
"Mom? Mr. Boreal?"
"Where's Dad?"
"When is he coming home?"
"D-dad? Is Dad…?"
Geo wanted answers, but for the rest of the night, no one gave him any.
(New York City, Present time)
The sound of an alarm began to ring in Geo's room. The formulaic, repetitive noise coming from the alarm feature within his phone which started slowly began to increase in volume after each recurring interval, to the point where it was unbearable. A frustrated and now awake Geo slammed his hand against his phone to stop the alarm, and after several attempts, left his bed to get ready for school.
Geo's room hadn't changed much over the past few years, and neither did his appearance. He was, of course, taller and more mature, but his distinctly spiky brown hair remained the same, and so was his attire; his casual red long-sleeved shirt, complemented by his star-shaped pendant and the visualizer he wore on the top of his head was what defined Geo to the other students at school. Getting ready for breakfast before heading to school, Geo left his blue, astronomy-themed bedroom and made his way to the kitchen.
"Good morning, Mom," Geo said as he yawned, his eyes still fluttering open and shut after his abrupt wake-up call.
"Good morning, Geo!" Hope called out. "Breakfast is on the table!"
She quickly finished washing up the dishes in the kitchen sink before joining her son on the dining room table, staring at her son eating the pancakes she had prepared for him earlier this morning.
"So… how's school, Geo?" Hope asked.
"It's ok. My grades are good." He knew what his mother wanted to ask and intentionally phrased his answer in a way that left Hope unsatisfied.
"You know what I meant, Geo," Hope frowned. "Have you made any friends yet?"
Geo frowned as well, putting a halt to his breakfast to think of how to respond to his mother. He didn't want to disappoint his outgoing, social mother, which he felt like he was doing now. But friends? Bonding with others? The deeper the connection, the more painful it hurts.
"No. Sorry, Mom."
Hope simply smiled, however. Her husband meant a lot to her as well, and she didn't want to rush Geo into something he wasn't ready to do, to move on.
"That's ok. You'll get there when you're ready."
Geo finished the rest of his pancakes before packing his bag to get ready for school.
"Good luck in school today, sweetie!" Hope said as Geo walked out the front door. The largely emotionless teenager cracked a smile before he parted ways with his mother.
"Thanks, Mom."
School for Geo was as mundane a routine as ever, and his lack of interest in friendships certainly didn't make it better. There was no conversing with other students in the halls, nor in class nor at lunchtime. No one knew his name, though everyone knew who he was by his attire and his reason for isolation. This is a high school after all, and rumors spread like wildfire.
"Hey isn't that the kid who lost his dad in outer space?" A scrawny, short boy nudged his friend beside him.
"I think so. Hey, what do you want to grab to eat later today-"
"Not now, Bud!" the short boy exclaimed. "Is food really all you think about every day?"
"Hey, Zack! I can't help it!" Despite his size and superior physical strength, Bud took a step back, seemingly hurt by the smaller kid's comment. "Wait that's the kid that Prez said she wanted to get on her side right? To strengthen her reputation?"
"That's why I brought him up," Zack said as he rubbed his hand against his forehead. "Though I'm not sure why Prez thinks that befriending a loner like him will get her anywhere."
"People think she's some rich elitist right? If she wants people on her side next election, having someone like him around helps her image."
"I guess…"
"Hey! What are you two doing standing around doing nothing?" a blonde-haired girl said as she walked toward her two lackeys.
"S-sorry Prez! We just remembered you wanting to meet that kid over there," Zack said as he pointed towards Geo, who was on his way toward his first-period classroom.
The blonde was Luna Platz, the class president of Geo's grade, and at the sight of Geo, Luna jumped in excitement. This was her chance to finally break through the fake rich stereotype some of the students placed on her in the school. Geo was famous for being a loner, and once she got him on her side, she would be "perfect" in the eyes of the masses. There would be no one stopping her from becoming the School President.
Geo noticed as the trio walked up to him, and he eyed them suspiciously, not knowing why they even wanted to talk to him in the first place.
"Hi! You're Geo Stelar right?" The blonde said as she, along with Bud and Zack, walked toward Geo. "It's nice to meet you! I'm Luna Platz, your class president and I want you to-"
"Not interested."
"H-hey, you didn't even let me finish what I was about to say!" Luna exclaimed.
"What's the matter with you! Show the Prez some respect!" Bud and Zack yelled behind her.
What an annoying bunch, Geo thought as he rolled his eyes and walked away. Bud and Zack attempted to stop Geo, to yell at him for disrespecting Luna, but the latter suggested against it, choosing to let Geo walk into his first-period class without any other distractions.
"Asking him nicely isn't going to get him to join us. We have to find another way to get him on our side."
Vista Point. One of the few places in the city that is peaceful. Far enough away from the city traffic to not be overwhelmed by the constant noise of car alarms, and in a nice enough area to not be covered by potheads and the odor of marijuana. The grassy field of Vista Point is closed off during the night, though the city police seldom enforce this rule, allowing Geo to come here every night to look at the stars. At this point in Geo's life, everything has become a routine, and visiting Vista Point every day was no exception.
As Geo arrived, however, he heard the sound of a guitar and walked down the gentle slope of the grassy fields in curiosity of the music's origin. There, Geo saw a girl gently stroking the strings on her guitar. Geo wasn't an expert when it came to music, but he knew that the melody was impressive and that the guitarist was quite good.
The girl, noticing Geo's approaching presence behind her, quickly turned around. The first thing that Geo noticed was her pink hair, which was previously covered by her panda-hooded sweater before her sharp turn knocked the hood aside. The hoodie that she wore was pink as well and her eyes were also noticeably green. Well, if she wanted to stand out, she certainly did that right.
When she saw Geo, she began to panic, which was returned by his usual emotionless expression. Realizing that he wasn't some sort of thug, nor was he a "crazy" fan, she breathe a sigh of relief.
"Sorry, I thought you were sneaking up behind me or something," the girl said. "I was told this place is usually empty."
"It is," Geo said.
Geo's emotionless expression coupled with his lack of interest in a conversation gave the girl a hint as to why he was here.
"Are you using this space?"
"Yes."
"Sorry, I'll get out of your way then," the girl said as she began to pack up her things, placing her guitar in a light case and wrapping it around her back. She then left Vista Point without saying another word.
Once she was gone, Geo began to lie down on the grassy area of Vista Point, and it was one of the few parts of his life that he still cherished. Free from interactions, free from distractions, Geo spent hours staring at the stars above in awe, the same way he did when his father was still around…
"School was ok today, Dad," Geo said looking up at the stars. "It was kind of interesting today actually. Some group approached me asking to join their student administration for some odd reason."
There was, of course, no response, yet Geo kept on talking. But he wasn't just talking, he was smiling as well.
"There was this big fella with an odd leather cap that made his hairstyle look weird, and there was this short midget next to him, and in front of the two was a really bossy blonde. And I saw this pretty good guitarist on the way to Vista Point too."
Geo stopped talking, and a wave of silence washed over Vista Point for a few seconds which seemed like hours. The once smiling Geo returned to his normal, depressed self.
"When will you come home?" Geo asked as he placed his hand in the air in an attempt to reach for the stars. He failed and plopped his hand right back on the grass.
Suddenly, Geo noticed a flash of bright light coming from the sky. Curious, he squinted his eyes at the blue light. Was that a shooting star? Once again, he smiled as he marveled at the beautiful sight of space. But it didn't disappear, and it wasn't destroyed as it entered Earth's atmosphere. In fact, it was headed straight towards him, and it was moving fast.
Geo's once smiling face turned into panic. But before he could run, a wave of blue light soon engulfed him.
Thanks for reading! In terms of scheduling, I'm looking to post a new chapter on Fridays (whether it's on a weekly basis or bi-monthly can vary). Expect the next chapter to be up in about 2-3 weeks however since I do want to take my time with this fanfiction. The reason why I'm posting the first chapter slightly early is I just want to get it out there before 2022.
Merry late Christmas, Happy early New Year, and see you in 2022.
(Please Review, Follow, Fav if you enjoyed the fanfic; helps with motivation).
