Epilogue - Five Years Later
Edward POV
Edward smiled to himself as he hit the 'SEND' button to send his second novel to his publisher. He was very proud of his new work and immediately stood up from his chair so he could celebrate with Bella.
Even after five years together Edward couldn't get enough of Bella. She was his everything; the one person he went to if he was having writer's block, the one person he wanted to toss ideas with if he was stuck, and the one person that he wanted in his bed every night.
"Daddy!" Carlie shouted when she saw him enter the living room.
Bella and Edward had talked extensively about whether or not Edward needed to rent out a place to use for his writing but he enjoyed being close to his family if anything happened. When the two of them found out that they were pregnant one year after their wedding - almost two years after the birth of his pride and joy, Carlie - they decided to look for a bigger place to live. The apartment that they had been living in was starting to feel cramped with just the three of them, he didn't want to know what it would be like when the new baby arrived.
The house that they had bought was the second one the realtor showed them and both of them had fallen in love with it. The best thing the house had to offer was the fact that it had five bedrooms, so they had plenty of room for Edward to turn one of the extra rooms into a writing haven.
Bella was able to start her teaching career the year after Carlie was born and then when their second little munchkin came along, Anthony Charles Cullen, she took another few months off so she could be home with the babies.
She was Wonder Woman and every day Edward asked himself how he got so lucky as to have her in his life. Through the sleepless nights and the fights that were mainly caused by sleep deprivation, Bella was an amazing mother. She may have lost her patience every once in a while and needed time to herself so Edward made sure to take over fully so she was able to have her moments by herself.
She wasn't perfect but she was perfect for Edward and, especially, for their small family.
When Carlie began pulling on his pants to gain his attention he shook the old memories off and reached down to pick up his little girl. He'd seen her just that morning when they all ate breakfast together but she quickly pulled him into a play by play of the entire afternoon. Since it was summer the kids were beginning to get cooped up when they were inside the house for too long so Bella made it a point to take them outside and play on the swing set that they bought when they moved into the house. It was all that Carlie could talk about and Edward couldn't stop the smile from lighting up his face when he walked into the kitchen and saw Bella balancing Anthony on her hip while she was trying to make dinner.
"Let me help you with that," Edward said and reached for his son with his free hand. Anthony reached for his father and Edward smiled at the toothy smile that his son gave him.
Anthony was nearly a spitting image of his mother, brown eyes and brown curly hair. The only thing that he got of Edward's seemed to be his nose and shape of eyes. It was fair because the more Carlie grew up the more she seemed to resemble Edward - she also had copper colored hair and emerald eyes, she got the curls from Bella but that was just about it.
Edward got them settled into their chairs at the table and gave them some crayons and coloring books to keep them occupied while he went to help Bella with the rest of dinner.
Dinner was a quiet affair, he knew something was off with Bella right away but he didn't want to ask her in front of the kids so they ate their dinner and once the kids were settled in front of the TV he pulled her back into the kitchen for some privacy.
"What's going on, Bella?" He asked, softly.
"Nothing, what makes you think something's wrong?" She asked while she began to clean up the dishes. He narrowed his eyes and pulled the dishes out of her hands before placing his hands on her hips to keep her still. When she still wouldn't look him in the eye he nudged her chin up and raised his eyebrows to let her know that he was serious.
"Bella, I can be just as stubborn as you. We can stand here all day until you tell me what's going through your head or you can just tell me now," he told her.
She sighed before speaking up. "Something happened and I wasn't sure how you would take it."
"Tell me and find out," he said.
"You know how last week I had the flu for a couple days and had to go to the hospital to get checked out?" When he nodded, she continued, "They took some blood to run some tests, I didn't think anything of it since I got better a couple days after but they called me yesterday while you were on the phone with your publicist."
"Are you okay?" Edward remembered the feeling of finding Bella on the sidewalk all those years ago after Jacob attacked her. He couldn't live without her in his life, he didn't even want to entertain the thought.
"I'm fine," she reassured him, she placed her hands on his cheeks and gently stroked the sides of his face with her thumbs. She took a deep breath before saying, "I'm pregnant."
"What?" He whispered while her words tried to make sense in his head. He thought that Anthony was going to be their last child since their miscarriage last year, he hadn't expected Bella to ever be pregnant again.
Bella took his whispered question and then the following silence to mean that he wasn't happy. "I'm sorry, I know that we talked about not having any more children but the doctor just said that sometimes you can still get pregnant even if you're being safe like we were. It's rare but...please, say something," she pleaded with him.
"Bella, you've got it all wrong. I'm thrilled, I thought that we'd never have kids again and I couldn't be happier. I know last year was difficult for you but this isn't going to end like that. We are going to make it through this. Together," he told her before placing his hand on her belly and wrapping the other arm around her shoulders so he could hold her while she cried into his chest.
"I was so worried that you would be mad at me," she whispered after she was done sobbing.
"Never, baby." He looked out the door and saw his five year old daughter and three year old son sitting together on the couch and looked back at Bella with a huge smile on his face. "I love you, Bella Cullen," he told her before giving her a searing kiss that reminded him of their first time together.
"I love you, Edward Cullen," she muttered against his lips.
Edward knew that there wasn't a man alive that could possibly be happier than he was at this very moment. Everything was perfect in his life and he couldn't ask for anything better.
