Identification Certificates:
An identification certificate is issued to all reds or newbloods (of both common and noble descent). Until recently, Silvers of high houses began to accept Ardents into their families, making a select few offspring with newblood powers. As a Royal Decree issued from King Maven, identification certificates are required to distinguish people between Ardent, and Red. It is also mandatory for abilitied people to wear symbols on their clothing. As in the time of writing, the Royal Family has only Ardent children, making them both the noblest and the most powerful family in all of Norta. They too, are also required to have an identification certificate.
The purpose of ID's were to distinguish Ardents and Reds but it seems to have caused some segregation between the two. Reds do not like to associate themselves with what they describe to be "Silver doppelgangers". Ardents do not like to socialize with Reds because of what is called "blood segregation". However, Ardents and Reds can live peacefully in communities with little to no conflict. Though they may not like each other, Ardents and Reds have special places in their communities. Ardents also play a key role in helping Red communities flourish. For example, Ardent healers help Reds heal quickly for an affordable cost. This has had a big impact on Red communities, allowing them to get up and go rather than let the natural healing process take its course.
Inherited Abilities:
Ardent children, like Silvers, are most likely to inherit their father's ability. However, there have been rare cases of children receiving their mother's ability, even their grandparents' abilities. Though these instances are infrequent, the Royal Family is known to have one prince and one princess, both twins, who have inherited abilities from other than their father. Shade Calore received powers from his mother Mare Barrow (who chose to keep her maiden name), the Queen of Norta, and a skilled electricon. Strangely, Princess Elara Diana Calore did not inherit her mother's ability, unlike her twin brother. Her ability comes from her father's mother who also shares the same first name. Princess Elara Diana Calore is the first documented Ardent Whisper. Her limits are yet to be discovered.
It is also largely theorized to have abilitied parents and a non-abilitied child when the child is a direct descendant of the parents. Such a case was presented at court when a Silver male was accusing his wife of having an affair with another man. Their child did not inherit either of their abilities but was rather powerless though his blood was silver. However this was later debunked when the child was later shown to have his father's ability. Though no known cases have been documented, it is largely predicted among scholars and intellectuals that in every million or so, there is one genetic defect. This is also countered by non abilitied parents to have an abilitied child. This was shown by Mare Barrow, the current newblood queen of Norta, who's parents were lowly Reds. Despite her parents blood status, she has the ability to wield and create electrical energy due to a genetic mutation in her DNA. Her ability was later named "electricon" as a play on the word "electricity".
No known Ardent or Silver has been known to have more that one ability.
