Amelia has been with the Doctor for a little over a week now and he's honestly not afraid to say that it's probably been the weirdest week of his life. For one thing, Amelia is only seven. For another, the Doctor knows next to nothing about children. Human children whose biology is totally different to a Gallifreyan's.

The Doctor is pretty sure that when he was a child, he never had such a short attention span. Amelia is easily distracted and wont to changing the subject rapidly and unexpectedly at random points in a conversation - sometimes even in a single sentence!

It's also interesting: the Doctor never imagined that humans in their developing years would need so much care. Not that Amelia can't look after herself (she seems to have been doing it for a long time, anyway). It's just, the Doctor is technically her guardian now, responsible for education and well-being - emotional and physical - and a lot of other little stuff in between. Like, for example, keeping her happy and entertained or making sure she gets to bed on time.

His new body seems to have luckily come with an energetic personality that never seems to run out of its abundant energy stores. Thank goodness for that! It's a tiring job, childcare. There have been times when his energy has dipped slightly, but if he didn't have this endless supply keeping him going, he would have crashed at some point this week.

Amelia is no hassle, though. If it was any other child, the Doctor thinks he may have gotten fed up with them and kicked them out of the TARDIS. As it is, the young girl he's coming to know doesn't take up that much room or fuss about anything or cause any trouble. She's chatty, yes, but she does tend to keep to herself, and she isn't noisy or disturbing or anything like that.

So, yes, while at times is has been kind of tiring, the Doctor loves having Amelia with him. He'd forgotten how much fun it is to travel and teach people new things. He's definitely teaching Amelia a lot about the universe around her and the entirety of both its future, past and present. There's a lot to learn.

He glances over to where Amelia lays across the floor on her front with her legs waving gently in the air behind her and a drawing pad in front of her. That is definitely new! He's never had anyone sat on the floor of his TARDIS colouring.

Amelia looks up at him and smiles proudly. "Look, Doctor, I drew us!"

She holds up her work for him to see, seeming so pleased with herself and it makes him smile back. Gently, he takes the pad from her hands to see it better. It's a child's pencil drawing, clearly depicting him holding Amelia's hand in front of the TARDIS.

Emotions he's never experienced take control and he worries for a brief second that his hearts might have actually turned to goo. What are these feelings?! He thinks one of them might be pride and maybe a paternal kind of love. But that's ridiculous! Amelia's not his child and he's barely known her a week! How can he be feeling this way for her already?

"I LOVE IT, AMELIA!!!" he exclaims and pulls her into a massive hug, resisting the urge to cry at the drawing. "It's so beautiful, I love it! I'm going to pin it up in my room, I'll make sure it's the first thing I see when I walk in! I love it!!"

There'll be time for exploring his puzzling new emotional state later.

And if his room just happens to be absolutely covered in drawings Amelia does for him over the next week, the TARDIS isn't going to say anything about it to him.
