I don't own any of this Loud House belongs to Nickelodeon.
Adelaide woke up early the next morning, the smell of the den immediately hit her as soon as her mind could become fully conscious. She let out a soft puff of disgust as she slowly got to her feet, Adelaide was careful though as she didn't want to wake her family.
The reason why Adelaide is up this early is because she had to pee. Quietly and slowly she walked out of the den, now at the entrance she stopped for she wondered where she can exactly go? Adelaide relaid on how she saw most of the restrooms had been destroyed.
What can she do? The urge to pee is beginning to become more urgent, she needed to find a place pee post haste. Maybe the restroom in the big cat area is still standing, Adelaide quickly exists the enclosure through the backdoor that zookeepers used to get in.
The young girl comes across a multi pathway shortly after leaving the enclosure, with the sign down Adelaide looked at each path, wondering which way was the big cat area. Adelaide tapped into her memories of each time she had visited the zoo, she remembered the maps and layout. She was in the North American section, so the big cat area should be east.
Now knowing which way to go, Adelaide quickly went off in the direction of the big cat area.
Sid rolled in her sleep and landed on a pinecone which breaks under her weight. "Ouch!" Sid sat up immediately, rubbing her side of any leftover residue from the pinecone.
"Well that was a rude awakening." Sid muttered to herself. Now fully awake, Sid looked around where she came to notice that her younger sister wasn't there.
"Adelaide?" Sid looked around the den making sure that she wasn't just hidden behind her parents sleeping bodies. Sid didn't see her however, she looked over to the entrance for perhaps she had wondered outside.
Sid stepped out of the den and looked around. "Adelaide?" She wasn't there either.
"Adelaide, where are you?" Sid looked over to the back wall, she comes to notice the open metal door. This raised her eyes in alarm, quickly Sid rushed out of the enclosure and looked around frantically for her younger sister.
She stopped near the multi pathway, where could her little sister be? Sid runs down the west path towards the reptile house, for maybe Adelaide went there.
Unfortunately that wasn't the case as her sister wasn't anywhere near the destroyed reptile house. Sid felt worry grow inside her for her missing sister, she just had to be here somewhere and Sid wasn't going to rest until she found her.
Adelaide felt great disappointment as she bounced up and down in discomfort. There is no still standing restroom here in the big cat area, and poor Adelaide felt like her bladder was about to explode.
Oh, where was she to go now? She is about to have an accident if she didn't go somewhere soon! Adelaide suddenly dashes towards an area where bushes once stood, not seeing any other options she just went to the bathroom right there.
Sweet relief now came to her as her bodily fluid came pouring out of her like water bursting through a dam. The last of the pee drips out until it came to a stop. Feeling satisfied Adelaide figured that she should return back to the den before her parents or sister woke up and discover that she isn't there, she didn't want to worry any of them.
The young girl was about to turn back when something colorful on the ground caught her attention. It was some kind of mushroom that she had never seen before.
"Ooh pretty." Adelaide kneeled down for a closer look at it, it is brightly colored green with orange spots on the top. Adelaide reached over to touch it. "Adelaide!"
Adelaide jumped out of her skin, she turned around to see her big sister rushing up to her. Sid gripped her shoulder blades with the mix of worry and relief on her face.
"What are you doing out here? You know better than to just wonder off on your own!" Sid scolded.
Adelaide look down in guilt, "I'm sorry." She cried, "I needed to go to the bathroom, and I couldn't hold it in."
"Why didn't you wake one of us up? We could've come with you." Sid remarked.
"I didn't want to disturb any of you." Adelaide replied meekly.
Sid wanted to say more, but she saw the guilty look on her little sister's face, so she just let out a sigh before gently gripping Adelaide's hand. "Come on, let's get back to the den. Mom and dad hopefully isn't up yet."
"Okay" Adelaide said lowly.
The two began to make their way back. "Your lucky you didn't ran into anything out here." Sid remarks.
Unknown to the two girls though; danger is just a few meters away. The male tiger is crouched near the side of a turned over cart, watching the two girls in great interest.
He had been resting in his own den with the stripped carcass of the bulldog laying behind him. The familiar scent of humans suddenly came to him, it was such a surprise as he had figured that all the humans had been killed during that day of chaos.
He decided to investigate to see where that scent was coming from. Now with the two female humans within his sight, it triggers his hunting instincts.
Before he had seen humans has creatures who had given him food, made him feel better when he was sick, and crowd around his enclosure with those flashy devices. He didn't see them as prey then, but now with him having to get his own food, he now does.
He considered himself lucky as like any other predator; the young, sick, or weak provided an easy meal and these two came under one of those categories.
He waits for a good moment to strike, but he doesn't have the experience of a hunter, he took one step forward and stepped on a stick making it snap.
The two girls jumped in alarm. "What was that?" The younger human cried out.
The tiger lunges in a quick burst of speed, though it seemed to have happened in slow motion. The slightly taller of the two turned her head to see the open mouth, she turns away but not quick enough as the upper left tooth slashed into her right cheek.
Sid let out a scream as the burning pain surged through her face. She along with Adelaide ran in a burst of speed that the two never thought they could mustered. Behind them the tiger is in hot pursuit of them, blood stained on its tooth.
He pursues them through the big cat area, he is getting close enough to jump, but the two girls suddenly made a sharp left turn which caught the large cat in surprise, he stops to turn himself.
This gave the two sisters a good distance away from the carnivore. They jumped into the enclosure that used to belong to the lions, the two duck behind a large rock where they leaned against it, breathing heavily while Sid held her bleeding cheek.
Adelaide looked to her older sister, she is horrified on the sight of the wound, she places her hands over mouth, she felt like crying from how scared she was and was about to, if Sid hadn't placed her own hand over Adelaide's mouth and shushed her.
The tiger stood on the ledge that looked down on the lion enclosure, he growls lowly as he looked around for his prey, sniffing the air in hopes of catching their scent.
The tiger doesn't though, which makes him growl in frustration, he slowly turned away and walked off in search of them for he knew that they were here somewhere.
The two sisters remain very silent until the big cat's footsteps faded, they breathed a sigh of relief, though Sid's is short lived as the pain of her wounded cheek hit her again. "My cheek." She cried.
Adelaide with her cheeks stained with tears, hesitantly spoke up. "Is it bad? It looks bad."
"It feels bad." Sid confirmed, she winced in pain as the wind brushes against the wound.
"What are we going to do?" Adelaide asked in worry for her big sister's health.
"We gotta get back to mom and dad. They'll know what to do." Sid answered. Adelaide however trembled in fear of the thought of going out there in the open with that bad kitty cat on the loose. "But what about the tiger?"
Sid thought for a moment, that tiger is definitely a big obstacle for them. "We're just going have to be very careful." She told her sister. "But first how are we going to get out of this enclosure?" Sid then added.
Adelaide notices the door at the back of the enclosure. "We can get out through that way." Adelaide pointed out.
"I don't know if that's such a good idea." Sid stated.
"Why not?" Adelaide asked.
"It might make noise and we can't afford that." Sid replied as she pointed behind her.
"But how else are we going to get out of here?"
Sid glances around, like every other enclosure in the zoo; the fence had been destroyed, so they can get out on any side. The problem however is the concrete that made the pit, there was no way of climbing it from how it was built, if they wanted to get out. Then they would have to find some way to get up there.
Looking around Sid could only see rocks, the rocks were medium sized but heavy looking. Sid knew that it would be a big job of lifting and carrying those rocks, but that didn't matter as they needed to get out of here, get back to their parents and warn them about the tiger that's roaming around the zoo, plus more importantly look over Sid's wound.
"Looks like we gotta pile up those rocks." Sid exclaimed.
Adelaide looked over to the rocks her sister is talking about, unsureness is quickly spreading across her face. "Those look heavy."
"I know." Sid agreed, "But it looks like they're the only way for us to get out of here." Sid then stated.
Sid went over a rock, with a heave she lifted up the rock and carried it over to the pit wall where she carefully placed it down. She had carried just one and already she is starting to sweat, which didn't feel well when her sweat touched her wound.
Adelaide takes notice of her older sister wincing, she wanted to help her, so Adelaide went over to another rock and only lifted it up to one inch. Walking awkwardly the young girl carried the rock next to the rock that Sid had brought over earlier.
Sid smiled down at her sister who's panting from carrying that rock, Adelaide smiled back up at her. Together the sisters picked up, carried, and place the rocks on the growing pile. There were ones that required them to carry together as those ones were too heavy to pick up individually.
It took awhile, but eventually the pile is built high enough to get out of the lion exhibit. The two sisters looked at their handy work proudly, they were really sweaty, had dirty hands along with their clothes, faces, and legs, and they smelled a bit due to the sweat that drenched them.
The two climbed up their pile, now at the top of their pile Sid looked around for any sign of that tiger. It would be a real big punch in the face if they got up there and the big cat was right there waiting for them.
Thankfully there wasn't any sign of him. Sid motions to Adelaide that it was clear, then they both got back onto the path. "Alright now that we're out, lets get back to mom and dad." Sid instructed, Adelaide nodded in agreement.
The two girls ran back in the direction of the black bear enclosure, they reached an area where food stands and a restroom once stood. Adelaide turned her head to the left, she gasped in fright and grabbed her sister's arm, stopping her in her tracks.
Sid turned to her with question. "What is it Adelaide?"
Adelaide simply pointed to her left in which Sid fallowed her finger and utterly held in her own gasp. The tiger with his back turned to them, stood in front of a fallen tree, sniffing the ground for anything.
Sid dragged her little sister behind the destroyed restroom, they remain quiet to not draw in the predator's attention. Carefully Sid peeked out, the tiger continued to sniff the ground, maybe if they were quiet enough she and Adelaide could sneak past the tiger.
That plan quickly left the window though, as the tiger suddenly began to turn around, causing Sid to quickly duck back. The tiger walked over, stopping right in the middle of the area, sniffing the air for anything that might catch his attention.
The two sisters could feel their hearts beat rapidly against their chests. They didn't dare make any noise, they went as silent as a worm. The tiger made low growling noises that sounded like it was getting closer.
They hoped that he was going away soon and wasn't coming this way. The tiger however picks up the scent of something that is close by, slowly he creeps up to where the scent is coming from. He stops as the scent is just around the corner, he slightly opens his mouth, crouches down, getting ready to strike his unsuspecting prey.
He lunges around the corner and grabbed his prey, he shakes it like a ragdoll which kills his prey instantly.
Sid peaked out and watched the tiger lunge around the corner of one of the food stands and kill something. Lifting up his head Sid saw that the tiger had a pigeon in his mouth.
She quickly ducked back just as the tiger had turned around, she listened as the tiger walked off with his meal, the tiger's footsteps faded until it is dead silent.
"Well that was close." Sid exclaimed in relief.
"What did he get?" Adelaide asked.
"A pigeon." Sid answered.
"Aw! Poor thing." Adelaide exclaimed sadly.
"At least it wasn't us." Sid pointed out. She took a quick glance out to make sure that the tiger is really gone. Seeing that he was Sid turned back to address Adelaide. "Come on let's go."
"But the tiger." Adelaide protested.
"He won't be bothering us for a while. He's going to be too busy eating that pigeon." Sid grabbed her sister's hand, then slowly walked out of the area, so not to draw any attention to themselves.
They finally got back to the den just as their parents were starting to wake up from their slumber. Mrs. Chang sat up and upon looking at her daughters, she panics once she caught sight of the wound on her oldest daughter's right cheek.
As a parent especially for a mother, the sight of this wound greatly scared her as it looked to be a very bad cut that ran down the right side of Sid's cheek, that is also stained with her own blood.
Mrs. Chang immediately gets to her knees to get a closer look, her husband stood by her side looking at the wound in shock. "What happen to you Sid?!" He asked in concern.
"It's my fault!" Adelaide cried out with fresh tears forming in her eyes.
Mr. Chang looked to her. "What do you mean Adelaide?"
Adelaide sniffed up, holding in a weep before answering in-between sobs. "I needed to go to the bathroom, so I went out on my own to find a place to pee! Sid came to find me, then we got attacked by a tiger that bit Sid's face!" Adelaide brought her hands on her face, where she began to cry into them.
This alarms the two parents greatly. There's a tiger that's loose out there, that also injured their child. The zoo suddenly seemed like a very unsafe place, they needed to get out of here and tend to Sid's wound.
"We have to get you to a hospital." Mr. Chang stated firmly.
"But dad, the hospital is miles away." Sid said with a wince.
"Don't try to talk that much honey." Mrs. Chang gently told her, before turning to her husband. "Sid's right though. The hospital is a long walk away, we need to treat this right now."
"But how?" Mr. Chang question as he really wanted his daughter's wound to be taken care of.
Mrs. Chang thought for a bit, until she then remembered about the emergency kits in the vets office. Sure the supplies are meant for animals, but they were still medical supplies that would help her daughter.
Mrs. Chang also expected that the vet's office is most likely knocked down like the other buildings in the zoo. But still it is worth to look around for anything that survived the knock down of the building.
Determine Mrs. Chang walked to the den's entrance. "Come on let's get going."
Her family looked at her in question. "Where are we going?" Her husband asked.
"To the vet's office." She replied.
"But what about the tiger?"
"I wouldn't worry dad. The last time we saw him, he caught a pigeon for breakfast." Sid informed.
"We still need to be careful though. Since the zoo seems to be this tiger's territory, it's best to be watchful as predators tend to be aggressive when it comes to defending their territories." Mrs. Chang informed them before heading out, her family quickly fallows.
They did indeed keep a watchful eye as they headed their way to the vet's office. They grew very jumpy, everything they saw that looked like a tiger shape or heard some random noise causes them to feel their hearts go into their throats as they utterly freeze up in fright.
At last they get to the vet's office, like Mrs. Chang suspected it is indeed toppled down. "How are we suppose to find things in this mess mom?" Adelaide asked.
"We're just going to have to rummage through." Mrs. Chang goes over to the pile of bricks, steal, and wood. She carefully picks through the mess, so as not to cut herself on any glass.
The rest of the Changs soon join her, they sorted through the mess, picking up and tossing the rubble out of the way.
It takes hours of sorting of what was once the vet's office and the Changs were having no luck on finding anything that would help with Sid's wounded cheek.
Mr. Chang tossed another brick away, but of course found nothing aside from more bricks. He is exhausted from all this lifting, he had small cuts on his fingers, but he couldn't stop now for he had to find something to take care of his daughter.
Adelaide sat on the asphalt for a much needed break. She hasn't found anything either much to her dismay, all she can do now is just regain her energy, so that she can rejoined the search for items that will make her big sister feel better.
Sid had moved to a small pile, she's being very cautious as she searched through this pile, for Sid could see visible sharp shards of glass within the pile. The blood that had run down her face had clotted, the wound itself is dark red and it still hurts.
It was very clear that the wound is going to leave a everlasting scar on her, which in the very back of her mind. Sid thought that it was kinda cool to have, if it wasn't so painful on getting.
Mrs. Chang pushed away some more rubbish and was able to find a needle and thread; items that could be used for stitching. She picked them up and placed them in her back pocket, then went back to searching for other useful supplies. Unfortunately after much more searching through the rubble, Mrs. Chang couldn't find anything else that would be useful.
She sighed in disappointment, she guess the needle and thread would just have to do for the time being. Bringing them out from her pocket, Mrs. Chang approached her daughter where she kneeled down in front of her.
"Alright Sid, I need you to be brave right now as what I'm going to do may be very unpleasant." Mrs. Chang told her daughter.
Sid looked to the needle and thread in her mom's hand for what seemed to be a very long time. She knew what her mom was about to do with them, and felt very afraid from the coming pain that is sure to come with it.
But she put up a brave face, then slowly nodded in understandment. Mrs. Chang prepared herself for what she was about to do, she ties the thread at the end of the needle, then very slowly moved the needle towards her daughter's wound.
Mr. Chang had covered Adelaide's eyes; to shield her from what is about to happen. Although Adelaide couldn't see, she could hear very well. The cries of agony soon filled her ears as well as short screams of pain that scared her greatly.
Sid looked at herself through the reflection of a broken mirror. The wound is closed up with the stitches that her mother had applied, it is red around it, and it throbbed in fiery pain.
Sid is tempted to touch it, but the pain from it had kept her from doing so. Sid is also concern for although her wound is now stitched up, she feared that it had already become infected; which is very bad.
Adelaide watched her sister with concern, she could see how much pain her older sister is in, she wanted to do something that could at least take her sister's mind away from the pain, but she had no idea on what exactly she could do.
Meanwhile Mr. and Mrs. Chang were gathering what they can into their pockets. They were planning on leaving post haste for they didn't want to push their luck on still being here with that tiger somewhere roaming around here.
They gather one last item before they head over to their daughters, Mr. Chang clapped his hands to get their attention. "Alright girls let's move."
"Where we going daddy?" Adelaide asked.
"I don't know, I guess we're just going to have to find out." He informed her softly.
The Changs now began to make their way towards the entrance of the zoo. As they walked Mrs. Chang looked down at her daughter in worry, the procedure of stitching up that wound was stressful for her, as the cries and shouts coming out from Sid struck her maternal instincts. She also worried that the wound had become infected, she would have to keep watch of it.
The Changs made it to the entrance, they exited the zoo and walked into the city where they had no idea on what they were going to do now, but at least they were safe from that tiger.
They turn a corner and zoo is now out of there sights. Up ahead is a unrecognizable cityscape where the Changs have to learn how to survive or become the next victims in this mass extinction that has already killed so many.
