Somewhere on King Rool's fortress, Wario and Waluigi were seen watching the fort travel across the water.
"So where did you find King Rool at?" Wario asked.
"I was traveling through the jungles when I found his ship, at first he thought about capturing me, but then he realized I could be helpful," Waluigi explained before Wolf walked in.
"Where do you suppose king Rool is going?" Wario asked.
"He mentioned something about another artifact he's looking for, he didn't go into much detail," Wolf answered.
"He seems like he knows what he's doing," Waluigi said.
"You seem to really trust him," Wario pointed out.
"Like you trusted the demon king?" Waluigi asked.
"I learned from that the hard way, now I know, unlike you who called that lizard your majesty," Wario pointed out. Waluigi was about to say something but then pulls out a script called Super Smash Heroes 2 on it.
"I did didn't I. Okay who's the idiot who wrote this?" Waluigi asked before they all look at the camera. Meanwhile Kirby and everyone else was seen listening to Midna.
"So Zant is the reason why he's after the triforce," Palutena said.
"It's more of a gift for him after he opens the gate to the twilight realm," Midna pointed out.
"So he's not retreating, he's trying to find something else," Meta Knight pointed out.
"The mirror of twilight, is that correct?" Palutena asked.
"Yes, but how do you…?" Midna asked before Palutena interrupted before she could finish.
"As a goddess I should know what happens in this new universe; the mirror of twilight was split off into four fragments which I believe Rool is after along with the triforce," Palutena explained.
"Where do we look for such a thing though?" Fox asked.
"I have a faint idea of where we can look. Captain Falcon, set a course for the desert," Palutena ordered.
"The desert? Are you sure we'll find this mirror thing there?" Captain falcon asked.
"This is a goddess your asking," Palutena pointed out before they head off in a different direction. Meanwhile on King Rool's fortress Wolf witnessed Captain Falcon's ship switch course.
"What are they doing now?" King Rool asked.
"They broke pursuit, must be looking for something," Wolf pointed out.
"That or they may have given up," King Rool suggested.
"I don't know," Wolf pointed out, later with Kirby and everyone else who arrived at the desert to find a few temple like structures set up in the middle of nowhere.
"What do we know about this place?" Fox asked.
"This desert ruins were once part of Donkey Kong's universe, but when the smash universe was formed, a few wise people retreated to these ruins seeking to escape the demon king's reign, since then many villages were built around them marking the beginning of civilization for these ruins," Palutena explained as captain Falcon lands his ship in a small space.
"And the temples?" Peppy asked as they exited the ship.
"No one's too sure who or what built them, archeologists are looking into the mystery, but with little to no success.
"Let's stay close, we really don't know what the locals here are like," Krystal suggested before they all move out into the main village, upon arriving they find to their surprise round shaped intelligent creatures that all look at them.
"Link, what are these things?" Falco asked.
"Gorons, they're allies to Hyrule, though I don't think they've ever seen any beings like you before," Link answered.
"What are they doing out here in the desert? I thought they usually thrive near volcanic areas and mountains," Kirby asked.
"There must be a reason, but your guess is as good as mine," Link said.
"What is the meaning of this?" An male voice asked. They all look to see a Goron soldier walking over to them, "no visitors with that mirror we found causing trouble, for your safety."
"Funny, that's what we're here about; you see, we believe it to be what a enemy of ours is after," Palutena pointed out.
"I see; then you all might want to come with me. Brother Darunia will want to speak with all of you," the guard pointed out before they follow him to the inner part of the city; as they reach it they noticed a a skyscraper sized tiki looking stone tower with a face on it in the center of the area spinning at a decent rate of speed. They eventually arrive at a tall looking temple with a small shack above it which they climb up to and stop at the entrance.
"Okay, you come with me along with Link," the guard pointed out.
"Is it possible for Kirby here to come in too?" Palutena asked pointed out Kirby which the guard looks at surprised.
"The Kirby? As in the one who defeated the demon king when he came back?" The guard asked.
"Yes," Palutena answered.
"He'll need to come in too," the guard pointed out before Kirby, Link and Palutena enter the shack to see a nicely put together place with several banners hanging from the ceiling. In a small living quarters was a goron with facial hair and thinning hair on the back of his head, this was Darunia and he was leader of the Gorons.
"Brother Darunia, we have visitors," the guard pointed out.
"So I see, what brings you here, travelers?" Darunia asked.
"We are here regarding the mirror artifact you found, a tyrannical king named King K Rool is after it" Palutena answered.
"That would explain why the guard brought you here instead of throwing you out, have a seat," Darunia said before Link, Palutena and Kirby sat down, "that artifact found not too long ago after the demon king was defeated for the second time. Nothing but trouble has brewed since we found it and if what you say is true, then things here could get worse."
Darunia usually wasn't very consulting, but hearing them out seemed to have changed his mind; he then looks at Kirby.
"I suppose your the one who defeated the Demon King," Darunia pointed out.
"Yes, with a little help from the triforce of course. Which King Rool seems to be after as well," Kirby pointed out.
"The triforce huh? Why are you here instead of at Hyrule if that's the case?" Daunia asked.
"I got captured by King Rool who then manage to take the first piece from me," Link pointed out.
"I see," Darunia pointed out before he hears what sounds like a whaling like sound, realizing what it was he signaled the guard to get the others to shelter.
"Wind storm?" Palutena asked.
"Yes, they're quite common in this part of the desert," Darunia answered.
"Do they last very long?" Kirby asked out of curiosity.
"Not really, they usually last 30 minutes," Palutena answered.
"This mirror, how did you find it?" Link asked.
"Hyrulian archeologists were excavating this desert with several of my guards after the demon king was defeated the first time," Darunia pointed out.
Flashback
Several Hyrulian Archeologists were excavating along with a couple Gorons that were watching them, a loud sound was then heard catching one of them by surprise.
"Found something!" The archeologist pointed out trying the pull the object out; the rest of them rushed over to help and eventually get it out of the sand.
"What is it?" One of the archeologists asked.
"It looks like a mirror of some sort, but If it's from here I can't say for sure," the head archeologist answered looking at it very closely.
"Can we get some help getting this mirror object back to Hyrule?" One of the archeologists asked.
"Sure, but first we need to let Darunia know what you have found," the Goron guard pointed out.
"Understood. Professor let's head back and…" the archeologist farthest from the leading archeologist suggested before pausing upon noticing that he was acting very strange.
"Professor? Professor are you oka…?" the archeologist asked, but before he could finish, the now possessed professor turned around and screamed demonically in his face.
Flashback ends
"Slaughtered every one of his fellow archeologists before we could do anything, so we had the artifact locked up for safety reasons and will not allow any visitors in this area," Darunia explained.
"And the archeologist that did this to them?" Palutena asked.
"Disappeared shortly before we got there, we never saw him again," Darunia answered.
"Would you be willing to let us take it?" Palutena asked.
"If you can handle its powers, sure," Darunia answered.
"Our friend Midna can take care of it, just show us where you locked it up," Link said, later after the wind storm cleared up they head for a isolated part of the village that was heavily guarded.
"Guards, open up the door," Darunia ordered.
"For what purpose, brother Darunia?" The head guard asked.
"These travelers wish to take it off our hands," Darunia pointed out.
"Okay, but it's their funeral," the guard pointed out before signaling the two guards guarding the door unlock and open it up; upon doing so, Palutena, Midna, Kirby and Captain Falcon enter.
"Good luck in there," Fox said seconds before the door closes; they then proceed deeper into the room and a few seconds later come across the mirror fragment only to find the possessed archeologist standing there gazing into the mirror.
"What's the call here?" Kirby asked.
"Quiet, he might hear us," Captain Falcon pointed out before the archeologist turns around to face them; he then points at them and starts speaking in a demonic language, "Never mind."
The possessed archeologist the floats in the air with a dark red aura surrounding him that was coming from the artifact.
"I think I had a nightmare like this once," Kirby said to himself before the archeologist threw several needles made of pure energy at them.
"Scatter!" Palutena shouted before everyone scattered seconds before the needles hit the ground and then deteriorated afterwards.
"Watch it's attacks and be careful, this one could be a handful," Captain Falcon pointed out before they rush towards the possessed archeologist while dodging his attacks; Kirby tried to punch the archeologist, but he uses his energy to block the attack sending him flying. Captain Falcon tries to use his Falcon punch on the possessed archeologist, but he blocks it causing a massive explosion of energy that Palutena blocked by unleashing a wall of energy. Kirby and captain Falcon rush at the archeologist together and launch a barrage of attacks that he blocks with god like accuracy.
"He's gotten more powerful then what the Gorons described," Midna pointed out.
"Any ideas?" Kirby asked.
"Is there a way we can cut his power source?" Captain Falcon asked.
"If you can make the mirror face down, we might be able to win. Kirby, keep him distracted, Captain Falcon, help Midna with the mirror," Palutena explained before they all started their tasks. Kirby got the possessed archeologist's attention before him and the pink creature started exchanging attacks; he mainly throws punches at the archeologist's face, but he blocked each and every one again while Captain Falcon and Midna try to get the mirror to gently fall face down without shattering it more than it already was, but the possessed archeologist immediately noticed and swiped his opponent into a case of hammers before he floated towards captain Falcon and Midna with the intent to obliterate them both. Before he could however a light gets his attention causing him to turn around to see Kirby with a headband and a hammer at the ready; he sends a barrage of attacks at the pink creature but Kirby whacked it back towards him causing some damage.
"Kirby your damaging him! Keep it up," Palutena said before Kirby swung his hammer at the Archeologist causing him to fly into a wall while Captain Falcon and Midna got back to work on the mirror; he then whacks the possessed archeologist into the ground. In response the archeologist roared a demonic roar of rage and tries to subdue Kirby, but he dodged a few attacks before whacking the archeologist in the chin with the hammer. Captain Falcon and Midna finally got the mirror to face down before a massive explosion of demonic energy rocks the entire temple, not enough cause it to collapse, but just enough to make it shake. Then a demonic looking thing comes out of the archeologist mouth.
"Kirby, I've got this," Captain Falcon said before rushing at the demon and jumps towards him, "Falcon Punch!"
Captain Falcon's punch was enough to cause the demon to scream in massive pain before disintegrating; the Archeologist then wakes up and looks to see that he was in an unknown area; everyone walks up to see if he was okay.
"What happened?" The archeologist asked.
"You were possessed by a demon, but your free now," Palutena pointed out.
"Where's my team?" The archeologist asked.
"When you were possessed, you slaughtered the others," Midna said before the archeologist broke down in tears.
"I had no idea that thing was dangerous," the archeologist pointed out in a weak voice.
"Your team will Rest In Peace knowing that your free," Palutena said before two goron guards walk in with Darunia.
"Did it work?" Darunia asked.
"Yes, him and your people are safe now," Palutena said as ever else in their crew walked in.
"We should get that mirror fragment out of here," Kirby pointed out. As he tried to grab the mirror, but gets stopped by Palutena.
"We will, but in a safer way to ensure that no one gets possessed," Palutena pointed out.
"Leave that to me," Midna said before waving her hands in a wizardly like fashion causing the mirror mirror to shrink before dissolving into dust that traveled through a portal in the air.
"And I thought what I saw on Serena was weird," Fox said.
"Same here," Krystal said as everyone walks out.
"So Kirby, what was it you exactly did back there?" Captain Falcon asked.
"It's called a copy ability, it's been an ability that I've had for a long time," Kirby pointed out.
"Very interesting, and the hammer you absorbed, what exactly happened to it?" Captain Falcon asked.
"Well I'm not sure, that part I could never figure out," Kirby answered before they all stop at Darunia's tent and head inside.
"I'm grateful for what you all did in there, I was able to see from a distance," Darunia pointed out confusing them.
"How exactly?" Kirby asked.
"A hidden Chamber we have, but that has to remain a secret," Darunia answered.
"Fair enough. We believe there's 2 more of these mirror fragments out there, we'll be on our way shortly, but we would like to thank you for your cooperation with us and if there's any way we can repay you, let us know," Palutena said before leaving. Meanwhile Leon was seen watching with binoculars; he later reports to King Rool,
"Looks like they're negotiating with the Gorons for help," Leon pointed out.
"That's one possibility," King Rool said thinking.
"There's also the possibility that they're trying to beat us to these," Wolf pointed out showing King Rool a hologram of the same mirror fragment Kirby and his team found.
"Wolf, this is the reason why I keep you around," King Rool pointed out.
"So do we change course?" Leon asked.
"No, let them have it, I have a batter idea," King Rool pointed out with a sinister look. Later with Kirby and his crew who were on their way to the next location.
"So where are we going next?" Captain Falcon asked.
"The city of the Oocca, also known as the city in the sky," Palutena answered.
"A flying city huh? Wonder how that works?" Peppy asked.
"If we had to fight a giant bug dragon I wouldn't be surprised if there's a flying city," Pit pointed out.
"Conversation aside, is anyone else worried about the idea that King Rool is letting us find the mirror fragments for him?" Meta Knight asked making everyone think.
"Then why are we looking for them?" Captain Falcon asked.
"To defeat them and Zant," Kirby pointed out.
"You make a good point, Kirby, but we also have to think about the possibility that we're being used," Fox pointed out.
"We need to be cautious," Palutena pointed out making Kirby think for a couple of seconds before nodding okay.
"So what do we do?" Kirby asked.
"I'd say we split into two groups, one will keep King Rool and his army busy while we continue the search for the mirror fragment," Peppy suggested.
"We'll need a second ship in that case and the great Fox was shot down during our previous battle with King Rool, any ideas?" Krystal asked.
"I've got an idea that could work," Midna explained before everyone looked at her.
"What might that be?" Captain Falcon asked.
