Chapter 1
I can offer you things. If we get out of here.
I know what you're doing.
Do you want me to stop?
No.
So… Bo was a succubus. Huh. Go figure. It did explain a lot though, like her habit of waking up next to dead lovers, as she'd casually said to the "human doctor". Not even an hour before that encounter, Bo had thought… no, known, that all doctors – all people – were, in fact, human. Boy, had she been wrong. It was intriguing, to put it mildly, finding out what she was, and this doctor seemed to know a lot about these fae creatures, whose world Bo apparently belonged to.
Lauren Lewis… The name felt good on Bo's tongue. Just like her lips had done earlier. With a dreamy smile, she remembered her words from back in the lab. "My god, you're beautiful", she'd said. Her tone had been different to what the brunette was used to… a little surprised maybe. And honest, like it came from her heart. Which definitely made sense, because Bo hadn't even used her powers at that point.
Then again, Bo wasn't bragging when she'd told the doc that she had "that effect on people". It was a simple fact. She'd heard all imaginable compliments regarding her looks, and honestly, she didn't even really listen anymore, when people praised her assets.
Until Lauren.
There was… something about the beautiful doctor. Something intense that Bo had noticed the moment she'd touched her hands. Even before she'd worked her magic on her to escape that fricking creep show, she'd sensed a strange kind of… electricity, for lack of a better word. She didn't know how else to describe it in her mind. Just being near the blonde had tangibly stirred something inside her, and judging by the yearning look on her face, Lauren had felt it, too.
Which was why Bo ultimately regretted having pulsed her in the first place. Since meeting the fae, Lauren had been the only one, who'd treated her with kindness, instead of condescension and aggression. She really didn't want the doctor to get in trouble for letting Bo escape, but after the surprising pile of intel about those arrogant asshats… well, frankly, she'd panicked. The brunette didn't want to "join a side" or whatever they expected of her. She didn't even know these people – how was she supposed to choose? On the other hand, Lauren also said that they might help her curb her hunger, and that was definitely something Bo was interested in.
Actually, now that she thought about it… what exactly was it that Lauren had said? "We can help you learn to control it." We. That included the doc, right? Could she help her, maybe? Without the others knowing about it?
No. Bo couldn't possibly go back there. For one, she didn't want to make things worse for Lauren. And secondly, these folks were bad news – that much she'd figured out as soon as Growlface McCreepyfangs and his buddy Whistleblower put her in the chair of shame, where she'd been gawked at like some freak attraction from the eighteen-hundreds. Still, knowing that there was a way to dampen her hunger was a game changer. It meant that she couldn't possibly go back to her old life. If she was completely honest with herself, she was terrified of this beast, this monster inside her that she didn't seem to have any control over.
Just like it had proven to her once again barely an hour ago when she'd been seconds away from killing the doctor. She'd felt terrible about it, the second after it happened, but she'd been helpless, defenceless in the face of her fae nature forcing her hand… or more like, her mouth. The whole thing had been an accident, and that was god's honest truth. Just before leaving the lab with Lauren, she'd pulsed the blonde to bend her will… but only just enough to get herself out. And then, things had gone sideways.
Earlier…
"Wait", Lauren pleaded, clasping Bo's hand.
Miraculously, the two of them had made it out of the building undetected. Under the influence of her succubus powers, the blonde had shown Bo the quickest way out, and now they were hiding in a little niche at the edge of the enormous estate. The path to freedom lay straight ahead. Bo only had to let go and be on her merry way. But of course, life never was that easy. Turning around, she faced her involuntary saviour. "I'm sorry, Lauren… you have no idea how sorry, but I have to go."
"Please don't." Such a simple statement, accompanied by that intense look… just as intense as earlier, when Lauren had examined Bo. The blonde's eyes, more than her words, begged her to stay. But it was too risky. The brunette desperately needed to get as far away as possible from the fae and take some quiet time to think. However, looking into those light brown eyes, her resistance began to crumble.
"I can't stay." Her protest was half-hearted, at best. At this point, Bo wasn't even trying to free her hand from Lauren's anymore. The doctor had this inexplicable pull on Bo – it was like she was drawing her in, as if Bo was at her mercy. But how was that possible? Usually, it was the succubus, who put others under her spell – mostly to get out of paying bills when she was short on cash. But even though she'd only just met her, Lauren seemed to have a similar, yet completely different kind of power over her – the strong, relentless kind. Yes, there was something about the blonde, and at this point, Bo was positively yearning to get to the bottom of it.
Without noticing, she'd moved closer. Her hands were resting on Lauren's hips, and the blonde's on hers. It was surreal, but at the same time felt so right. Like she belonged. Like they both did. Still… deep down, she knew she shouldn't be here. Ever since her youth, everyone she'd got close to had ended up dead, and she couldn't risk killing Lauren, this wonderful, gorgeous woman she didn't even know, but felt inexplicably drawn to.
"You're so beautiful", Bo breathed, unwittingly starting to close the gap between them. "What is happening to us?", she asked the doctor, profoundly confused.
"I don't know", Lauren replied. "Just let it."
You're going to kill her. She inched closer. You're going to kill her. Closer. You're going to KILL her. "No!", she cried, mustering her last ounce of willpower. "We can't. You'll die."
"I don't care. It'll be worth it. Kiss me, Bo. Please…"
That was it. Bo's instincts took over, and there was nothing she could do about it. Lauren was like a magical flame, and Bo was the moth. Defenceless. Helpless. The next thing she knew, their lips met for the first time. And it was divine. Indescribable. But it wasn't enough. Both of them moaning deeply, their lips parted, taking each other in fully. When their tongues connected, Bo felt like she'd lost her grip on reality. This kiss was unlike any she'd ever experienced before. She melded into Lauren's body… fused with her, holding her impossibly close, and before she realised what was happening, she was overcome by the familiar greedy pull.
Mouthfuls of the doctor's heavenly chi were entering her, running down her throat like the sweetest nectar, making her feel faint and immensely powerful at the same time. More and more she drank from her, taking her in like an irresistible drug, until all of a sudden, something happened. A disturbance.
"Bo, stop, you're killing her!" Killing… Yes, killing. Lauren had said it would be worth it, and it was… dear god, it was. So worth it. So good. But the disturbance was persistent, dragging her away from the divinity of the blonde's embrace. Who dares to stop me? Turning around in a flash, Bo let go of the doctor and grabbed the annoying thing by the throat.
"Bo!", it croaked. The voice sounded familiar. She knew this one… "Bo, please, it's me." Kenzi.
"Kenzi." Snapping out of her haze, she pulled her hand away, as if she'd burned herself. The dark-haired woman looked terrified, but also… defiant. "God, I'm so sorry", Bo added in shock. "What just happened?"
Wordlessly rubbing her throat, Kenzi pointed at the lifeless figure of the doctor lying on the ground. "Oh no, please, no…", Bo whimpered, feeling as if the image in front of her had the power of draining all happiness from her at once. Not her. Not Lauren… Hopelessly sinking down on her knees, Bo pressed two fingers to the side of the blonde's throat to check her pulse. Please be alive.
Faint beating. Not strong by any means, but it was there. "Oh, thank god!", she whimpered.
"Dr Lewis, are you out here?" The voice came from the opposite direction. They'd come looking for her.
"Let's go", Kenzi hissed and grabbed Bo's arm to pull her away. Throwing one last yearning look at the unconscious blonde, she followed her friend.

Voices roused her from slumber. Too many of them, and they were all talking at once. At least that's what her brain made her believe at first. In reality, there were only two people present, she realised after a moment. One of them sounded furious, the other deceptively calm. It took her another minute, but slowly, Lauren was beginning to make sense of the buzzing.
"She was your responsibility. I expect more of you, Dyson." The Ash's smooth voice was seething with contempt and unspoken warnings.
"She was with Lauren", the reprimanded shifter answered through gritted teeth, barely able to contain his anger in front of his boss. "For the duration of the exam, she was the one, who was supposed to be watching her, was she not?"
An ignoble snort. "She's human", the Ash spat. Condescending as ever. "How is a weak human woman supposed to resist the charms of an out-of-control succubus?" Lauren was used to this attitude. She didn't even really notice it anymore. "You're lucky she survived the attack", he continued. "Lauren is a valuable asset to the Light, as you well know." He made a meaningful pause. "Now get out of here and search for the succubus. You'd better not disappoint me again."
"Yes, sir." Emotionless. Sober. Clinical.
When the sound of Dyson's footsteps faded, Lauren took a deep breath and opened her eyes, shielding them from the brightness in the room.
Noticing her awakening, the Ash approached her. "What have you found?", he inquired paying no mind to her vulnerable state or the fact that she'd likely heard everything he just said about her. "Your notes merely stated that you determined her species to be succubus."
She tried to speak, but only managed to produce a pitiful cough. Reluctantly, the man handed her a cup of water, which she accepted with a humble nod. "That is correct", she started her report when her voice had returned. "Judging by the answers she gave me, I believe it's true that she had no prior knowledge of the fae. She belongs to no clan and doesn't know her biological parents."
She told him what else she'd learned about the brunette… intentionally leaving out the tiny little detail that it had been Lauren, who'd initiated the kiss that rendered her unconscious.
Based on an earlier experience with a rather obtrusive incubus, whom she'd treated a while ago, Lauren knew exactly what the succubus had been doing when she pulsed her. From a scientific point of view, said incubus had even done her a favour by tirelessly trying to seduce her, because although his pulses had – thanks to her homosexuality – no effect on her, she'd still felt them. It had been interesting to study them, so she'd put up with his ongoing, albeit hopeless advances – until the Ash got wind of the man's disrespectful behaviour and firmly suggested he look for another doctor. Even though part of Lauren was relieved to be rid of him, the scientist side of her had regretted the departure of the overeager fae… That was, until Bo had shown up out of nowhere, and for a hot minute, Lauren had been back in science heaven. Succubae, as well as incubi, were rare, after all.
But it wasn't only the scientist in Lauren, who had been intrigued by Bo. She'd been fascinated with her from the second she laid eyes on her beautiful face, so it was only natural that her thoughts went back to the exceptional woman, as soon as the Ash left the room to let her get some rest.
Bo… What a strange yet beautiful name. Surreptitiously, Lauren looked around to make sure she was alone and then touched her lips. They still tingled from that earth-shattering kiss she'd shared with the mysterious brunette, and even though it had almost killed her, she couldn't wait for the next one. Please let there be a next one… The way Bo's body had felt against Lauren's, the softness of her lips and the skill with which she moved her tongue. Oh, what that tongue could do to her…
Focus, Lewis!
She really needed to clear her head. Bo was on the run, but it was only a matter of time until the Ash's hounds got a hold of her, and when that time came, Lauren needed to be prepared. She wanted to help the brunette, but to do that, she had to do some serious thinking, without any distractions. Right now, focus was key.
Just before losing consciousness, her fading mind had managed to pick up that someone had interrupted Bo's feeding, which was probably the reason she was even alive at this point. Making a mental note to thank her saviour as soon as she found out who it was, she continued her thought process… an endeavour, which, now that she thought about it, came surprisingly easy, given the fact that she'd cheated death only a few hours ago. And what was even more curious was that once the dizziness had faded, Lauren didn't actually feel depleted the way she should after an uncontrolled succubus feed. After all, she was only human. So, why didn't she feel weaker? Scientifically speaking, the thrall must've worn off by now, so that couldn't be it. Besides, Bo's pulses had been mild in comparison to those of Lauren's incubus "guinea pig".
Turning around, she grabbed a tablet to check her own medical stats. Aside from being severely dehydrated, everything seemed to be just fine. But how was that possible? It was true that she'd never before experienced the emotions and sensations crashing down on her the moment Bo had pulsed her. It had felt like a spark had been ignited between them, which was still glowing, even though the effect of her powers must've worn off hours ago. Initially, Lauren had blamed Bo's fae nature – after all, her self-tests with the unwitting help of the incubus were only in part comparable, because she was actually susceptible to a succubus pulse. But this wasn't purely sexual.
There was something else… something more between them.
Lauren had felt it the second she'd touched Bo's flawless back. Running her hand across her skin hadn't been necessary in the slightest. The doctor had acted on pure instinct – wanting nothing more than to feel the beautiful succubus with all her senses. She felt drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Her touch had stirred something deep inside of Lauren, and it had nothing to do with Bo's thralling powers…

Back at the Crackshack, as Kenzi had lovingly christened the worn-out building in this rather shady part of the city, Bo was sitting on the ancient dusty old sofa that had inhabited the place, before the brunette had moved in – probably even before the rats. Bo's elbows were resting on her knees, and her head was buried in her hands. She couldn't shake the image of the unconscious blonde helplessly lying on the ground before her. What if she hadn't made it after all? She couldn't bear the thought, but she couldn't stop thinking about Lauren either.
Sighing, Bo rubbed her face and looked up at the girl standing in front of her, arms folded in front of her chest and an inquisitory look on her face. "Thank you again", the brunette said to her new friend for about the hundredth time within the last hour. "For stopping me."
Kenzi nodded solemnly. "Sure thing. What are besties for, right?"
Bo produced a ghostly smile. The two had talked on the way here, and it'd turned out that Kenzi wasn't only a skilled thief, but quite street-smart as well. She knew some really shady folks, but ultimately, it had been those contacts that had made the young woman's involuntary rescue mission possible in the first place. A friend of hers had tracked the number plate on the van those fae dudes used to kidnap Bo, and upon locating it, Kenzi had found the building as well. It had, however, been an incredibly lucky coincidence that she'd shown up the second Bo was about to drain Lauren.
Fact was, even though she'd known her for barely a day, Bo liked the strangely trusting and seemingly fearless young woman. But keeping her around was dangerous. For the both of them. So, naturally, Bo's instinct told her to run. To hop into her beloved yellow Camaro and leave yet another city behind, driving off to find somewhere to stay and hope that it would last longer this time around.
But what then? She knew from experience that after a good feed like today, it would take all of maybe a week until she'd start getting hungry again. One time, she'd managed to suppress her growing hunger for a whole month, before her inner monster had seized control. When Bo had finally come back to her senses, she'd found herself next to two dead bodies. Her life was a never-ending killing spree, and more than once, she'd tried to end it all. But even then had her succubus simply taken over and saved her… probably more for its own protection, rather than Bo's. Fact was that she was stuck with herself.
But now… finding out that it was possible to learn to control herself was like a beacon of hope. It changed everything, but of course, it came at a price. Bo wasn't naïve. She knew she had no choice but to eventually seek out the fae to ask for help. But for now, she was full up, and she vowed to use what little time she had to forge some plans.
"So, what now?", Kenzi asked, breaking the thoughtful silence.
Bo took a deep breath. "I'm done running", she stated determinedly, which earned her a wide grin. But before the girl could say anything, Bo continued: "I don't know yet what I'm going to do, but in about a week, my hunger will return, so I'll have to figure it out soon. Lauren said I could learn to control it, so that's a good thing. But I can't go back to those weirdos… at least for now. So, I thought, maybe I could go look for her instead. You know, ask her to help me?"
She threw a hopeful look at Kenzi, who was standing opposite Bo, pensively chewing on her lower lip. "You do remember what happened the last time you were around her, don't you?", the girl inquired, hands on her hips. "You said it yourself – you had no control over the situation, so why would next time be any different?" Bo's face fell. "You're a cool chick and all, but one succu-choke is enough to last me a lifetime."
Bo let herself fall against the backrest and covered her face with her hands.
Kenzi plopped herself down on the sofa next to her friend and put an arm around her shoulders. "Don't worry, we'll get you sorted."
