Chapter 2

Four days later

"Bo-Bo, we gotta go, Ali isn't gonna wait forever – not even for your gorgeous succu-butt."

"I'll be right down!", the brunette shouted from upstairs, donning her leather jacket. She was about to exit her room when she took a last look around. It was astonishing what the two women had… acquired over the last few days. They'd agreed to wait one full day to see if the fae cavalry was onto them, and when nobody showed up, they'd hit up all kinds of places to find cheap used furniture. Their combined skills had earned them a couple of more-than-decent beds and a lot of other random stuff that now adorned the Crackshack. Bo liked their new-old stuff, and she'd also grown to like Kenzi's colourful bunch of friends, who had been very helpful when it came to transporting everything back to the house. Half of them were just kids, some of them not even old enough to drink, but they possessed extremely handy talents. And as different as these hackers, fences and weed dealers were, they all had one thing in common: They'd become what life had made them.

One of her skilful friends was a young man named Alistair, whom they were scheduled to meet in a secure location in half an hour. He was a runaway, just like Kenzi, and the two had met years ago on the streets of Toronto when the girl was barely sixteen and had fled her home for the last time.

Alistair's special talent was detecting people. According to Kenzi, he was the absolute best at it, but it had taken her two full days to find him, because he also happened to be a master at hiding – a skill he had honed to perfection to avoid being found by his family, a stinking rich bunch of snobs, whom he preferred not to talk about too much. Kenzi had told Bo, the last time he'd seen his folks was over five years ago, and that he didn't regret leaving them for one second.

Bo really hoped that he was going to be able to locate Lauren – maybe even work out her routines and schedules, so that they could arrange a meeting alone. She and Kenzi had discussed this at length and eventually came to the conclusion that there was no other way. Lauren was the only person they could think of, who wasn't fae, but knew of them. If there was even the slightest chance at enlisting her help, Bo had to take it. Besides, she yearned to see the beautiful doctor again. So much so, that she was starting to show withdrawal symptoms, Kenzi had joked, but Bo was inclined to agree. The truth was, the brunette would have done anything, taken any risk just to see her again… Even if Lauren were to betray her by offering her help and then surrendering her to the fae, it would all be worth it.

XXX

The night was hot, and Lauren couldn't sleep. In fact, she'd had trouble sleeping ever since she last saw Bo, and she still hadn't found any explanation for the weird… phenomenon that had occurred. Fact was, the doctor couldn't stop thinking about the brunette. Lauren's body, her heart, every fibre of her being was yearning for Bo, but the succubus had vanished without a trace. Neither Dyson nor Hale had managed to track her down, which was remarkable, as they had both, the fae resources, as well as the entire Toronto PD at their disposal. The Ash was getting impatient, to put it mildly, but the shifter and his siren partner were at a loss.

But while Lauren was glad that Bo had eluded them until this point, she desperately wanted to talk to her. Not just because she desired the gorgeous woman more than anyone she'd ever met, but also because the scientist in her needed to get to the bottom of their… connection. Over the last few days, Lauren had scanned every book in the Light archives to learn every single thing there was to know about succubae. But while she'd managed to find a great deal of information, the most important puzzle piece was still missing… Why did she feel so drawn to Bo long after her thrall had worn off? Was it simply that she'd fallen for her at first sight? Lauren had never experienced it before, but scientifically speaking, it was possible.

She sighed and turned over for the hundredth time. It was no use. She knew she needed some relief, or she wouldn't sleep at all. Getting herself off was the only thing that had helped her relax since she'd met Bo, so she decided to get it over with. It frustrated her that all she had were fantasies, which seemed real, almost tangible, when she was touching herself, but crumbled to nothingness the second it was over. But at least it would let her get some rest.

She took off her thin tank top and sleep shorts and lay on her back. Closing her eyes, she remembered Bo sitting half naked on her examination table. "Oh, god…", she sighed at the wonderful image, licking her lips and swallowing the lump in her throat.

In her mind, Bo climbed off the table like she'd done on that fateful day, but instead of taking her bra and getting dressed, she walked towards Lauren, who put away the clipboard, her eyes fixated on the brunette's perfect breasts. Without a word, the succubus turned around and bent over to pull down her tight pants, until she was completely naked.

"Touch me", she demanded, and Lauren complied.

As she imagined caressing Bo's incredibly soft mounds, Lauren's hands wandered from her sides up her body towards her own breasts. She squeezed both of them and pinched her nipples, making herself moan. In her head, she'd got rid of her lab coat and the rest of her clothes, and it was Bo's hands touching her so intimately.

"Bite it", she breathed, giving one nipple a particularly hard pinch when fantasy-Bo's teeth sank into her tender flesh. "Fuck", she husked and moved a hand down over her stomach, toying a little with the silver ring that adorned her bellybutton, before crossing her mound and parting her folds.

"Lick me, baby", she begged, imagining the brunette kneeling between her legs, giving her a cheeky smile and then burying her face in Lauren's soaking pussy. Her fingers moved along with Bo's tongue, caressing and circling her clit, bringing her closer and closer to her much-needed release. She didn't want to make this last – all she wanted was a quick orgasm, so she picked up the pace, rubbing herself at lightning speed while fantasy-Bo was working her magic. With her climax approaching, Lauren's body tensed, her lungs pushing forth ragged breaths, until the first wave hit. "Bo…", she whimpered into the empty room. "Fuck, yes… don't stop, baby, I'm coming… Bo… Bo… Bo-gooood, yesss!"

Panting heavily, Lauren remained like this for a while, continuing to stroke her throbbing clit to coax from it some more twitches, while basking in post-orgasmic bliss. Taking a deep breath, she finally opened her eyes and immediately, her smile faded. Of course, there was no Bo nearby to cuddle up to and hold close.

But at least, her plan had worked, because all of a sudden, she felt tired. Sighing, she rolled over one last time and drifted off to sleep.

XXX

It was late in the evening when they arrived at the scheduled location to meet Alistair. Bo had just parked the car – a borrowed one, because the Camaro stood out like a sore thumb – when she felt a rush surge through her body. It wasn't an orgasm, but it came close enough that she had to hold onto the steering wheel. This had happened repeatedly during the last few days, and each time, she'd been tempted to touch herself to scratch the ever-building itch. But she knew it wouldn't do her any good. Getting herself off was actually counter-productive – she'd figured that out years ago. It made her hunger spike even quicker, so she hadn't done it in ages. And now that she was so close to finding a way to stop the endless killing, she wasn't going to risk her progress by making such a lame mistake. It did get harder and harder to resist though – that much she had to admit.

"Bo, you coming?", Kenzi asked, checking why her friend was still sitting in the car.

"I wish", Bo muttered and exited the vehicle. They were standing in a dark alley. It was cloudy today, so the moon was nowhere to be seen, and the scarce light from the main street barely managed to illuminate the first few metres of the narrow street. The rest was pitch black. Bo took out her phone to use as a flashlight, but Kenzi stopped her.

"He'll find us", she explained. "All we can do now is wait."

So, they did. The clock on Bo's phone had just turned eleven when she sensed someone emerging from the darkness. She nudged Kenzi and nodded in the direction of the movement. "Ali!", the girl chirped under her breath and jumped up to run towards the young man. He chuckled quietly and wrapped her in his arms. Bo got up from the random wooden box she'd turned into a makeshift chair and looked him over. He was a handsome fellow – tall and slender, with black hair and dark skin.

Their eyes met, and Bo instantly knew something was happening.

Ever so gently, Alistair put Kenzi back on her feet and eyed the newcomer, tilting his head. In an instant, Bo felt her eyes turn blue, and even though she was fully clothed and had never been shy about her body, she suddenly felt the urge to cover herself.

"Huh", the young man said, folding is arms in front of his chest. "Would you look at that."

Alarmed by the sudden weirdness in the air, Kenzi looked back and forth between the two. "Um… what's going on here?", she asked quietly, snapping her fingers.

Alistair pried his eyes away from Bo's and looked around, as if he'd heard something. "We have to get out of here. Get in the car, I'll take us somewhere safer."

As soon as his gaze had left her, the brunette's eyes shifted back. She'd felt weirdly exposed, yet strangely comfortable under his scrutiny, and without hesitation, she threw him the car keys and did what he said. Why, she didn't know. Maybe it was the simple fact that Kenzi trusted him with her life. Whatever it was, Bo had a good feeling about this stranger, so she decided to go along with it.

They drove in silence. Bo watched the city lights fade in the rearview mirror when Alistair turned a few corners and parked the car in a dense forest. It was even darker here than in the alley, and Kenzi clung to Bo's arm, while they were following her friend, who was mercifully lighting the way. A few minutes later, they arrived at an inconspicuous bump in the ground, that housed a hidden door leading into a bunker-type enclosure.

Alistair let the two women inside, before poking his head out once more, listening intently. Then, with a satisfied nod, he closed the door and switched on the lights. For a secret hideout in the middle of the forest, the room was quite pleasant, Bo noted. But before she could comment on it, the man turned to face the two. "Sorry for the drama", he said in an apologetic tone and rubbed his face. "It's just that I can never be careful enough…" He fully faced Bo now. "Especially when I'm sensing a trap." Folding his arms once again, he leaned against the doorframe.

The brunette's eyes widened in shock, and Kenzi's jaw dropped. It didn't take long for her to find her voice though. "What the hell are you talking about, man?", she inquired, protectively positioning herself in front of Bo and taking on the same defiant stance as Alistair's.

"She", he said, pointing at the brunette, "is not, who… what you think she is."

Bo exhaled and lowered her gaze. He'd seen her eyes change, so he probably thought she was some kind of freak, intending to eat his friend. She was about to push Kenzi out of the way when the girl spoke up again. "As it so happens, I know exactly, what she is…", she stated confidently, taking a few steps towards him, putting her hands on her hips and boring her intense ice-blue gaze into his eyes. "The question is, how do you know?"

Within a nanosecond, all tension drained from the room, when his face split into a wide grin. "Man, I missed you, Kenz!", he exclaimed, wrapping her in a bear hug, which she graciously allowed, before gently untangling herself from him. Her eyes were smiling, but she was still giving him the "death glare", which Bo knew all too well, even though she'd only known the bubbly young woman for a few days. It was the glare Kenzi reserved for situations when she thought someone was shitting her. And Alistair was obviously doing just that.

"Okay, okay", he relented, holding up his hands in a peace-offering gesture. "I guess I have myself to blame for this. But in my defence, I couldn't know that your friend in need of help was a fricking succubus. Unaligned to boot!"

This time, it was Bo's jaw that dropped. "You know?", she said, completely dumbfounded. "How the hell do you know within a millisecond of meeting me when it took me my whole life to figure out what this thing inside me was!"

"What are you talking about?", he asked, confused.

"I was raised by humans. I had no clue, what I was until a couple of days ago."

"Oh…"

"Yes, oh", Bo echoed. "Now, how about you answer my question, pal?"

"I'm not your pal, succubus", he spat.

"I have a name, you know!"

"Would you stop it already!", Kenzi interrupted, throwing each of them another death glare. "Now", she continued when both of her friends had focused back on her, "Bo, this is Alistair Huntingdon III, Ali, this is Bo Dennis. Yes, Bo is a real-life fricking-badass succubus, and yes, we need your help. Now, your turn."

Alistair cringed upon hearing his full name, but he smiled nonetheless. "I'm sorry, Bo", he offered, holding out his hand to her to shake, which she did. "The short version is", he said with a sigh, "I'm a Reader, which means I sense what people are and what they can do. All people", he added with a meaningful look at the brunette.

"You're fae, too", Bo breathed, and he nodded.

"What?!", Kenzi exclaimed, slapping his arm. "We spend years on the street together, and you never feel the need to tell me this?" She huffed and folded her arms.

"I'm sorry", he said earnestly, trying to take her hand, but she turned her back. She was deeply hurt, that much was clear to him. "I really am, Kenz. But you don't know what my folks are like… not really", he added when she snorted. Shaking his head, he sighed and sat down on a sofa in the corner.

Then, he told them his story. Not the softened-up version he'd come up with to protect his friend, but the whole truth. "My parents live on a huge estate in southern England, where I was born. I don't want to get into too much detail about my upbringing, but I'm going to say that my family name is old… very old. And so is my family's fortune. I had everything I could ever wish for, until I hit puberty and my powers started to show. Long story short, I'm the only fae in existence, whose ability is to instantly know other fae's powers as well as their allegiance simply by looking at them."

He made a pause to let the meaning of this piece of information sink in, but neither Bo nor Kenzi seemed to understand the magnitude of his revelation. "A fae's abilities are a very private matter", he explained. "Some of us go their whole life without ever understanding the full extent of our own powers, so my skills are… well, offensive, to put it mildly. Which is why my parents hid me away from the world. Initially, they did it to protect me, but eventually they started using me… to make even more money."

"Knowledge is power", Kenzi stated compassionately, and Alistair nodded. "I'm so sorry, man", she sighed, her previous anger forgotten. She understood now, why he'd never told her the whole truth – it would've put her in grave danger. Knowledge wasn't only power, it was also incredibly risky, especially for a human, who knew of the fae. But now that he'd told her this much, she wanted to know the rest, too. "How did you get out?", she inquired curiously.

"I got lucky", he replied vaguely, shrugging his shoulders, and upon his friend's inquisitive stare, continued: "Let's just say, one day someone forgot to lock the door, and the poor little caged bird flew away."

The two smiled at each other, which Bo was about to comment with a heartfelt sigh, when she remembered why they'd come here in the first place. She cleared her throat, and Kenzi snapped right back into action. "Right… Ali, Bo needs your help finding someone."

The young man fixated his gaze back on the succubus and tilted his head. This time, Bo didn't return his stare. "You learn fast", he said with honest respect.

"Yeah, well, I've been on the run for half my life, so let's say I acquired some skills along the way."

He nodded. "So, who do you want me to find?"

Taking turns, the two women explained to him what had happened and why Bo needed his help. When they'd finished, for a while, he remained silent, seemingly lost in thought. "So, that's what that was", he mumbled to himself, as if he'd forgotten that he wasn't alone.

"What what was?", Kenzi asked. "Do you know something we don't?"

"Maybe…", he replied and got up from the sofa. "It shouldn't be a problem to find out where your doc lives and all that. But there's something else I may be able to help you with." He paused. "You felt something when you were with her, didn't you?"

"I did…", Bo replied, blushing slightly as she felt her eyes shift.

To her surprise, he shook his head. "That's not what I meant. It's only a hunch, but if you want me to confirm my theory, you'll have to let me in again. Properly this time."

"Properly?", Kenzi echoed. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"I have to enter her mind", he explained and reassuringly held up his hands, when Kenzi made a face. "Don't worry, it won't hurt her." He turned back to Bo. "I will put my fingers on your temples and look into your eyes. That way, I'll be able to detect every last part of your succubus nature. It's like taking a close look at your soul, so I'd understand if you refuse. After all, you don't know me."

"Kenzi knows you", Bo stated, shrugging and looking at her friend, who nodded with total conviction. "Alright, let's do this."

Without hesitation, Alistair approached Bo and stood right in front of her. "As I said, I will put my fingertips on the sides of your face, and you will have to look straight into my eyes, understood?"

Bo cleared her throat and braced herself. "Yes. I'm ready."

Her words had barely died away when she felt his hands on her temples and her eyes shift once more. This time, however, so did Alistair's. Bo was mesmerised by their bright yellow shimmer which reminded her of the rays of the early-morning sun.

I see you, succubus, his voice resounded in her head. Can you see me? Bo instinctively knew that he wasn't talking to her, so she remained quiet, curious as to what was going to happen next.

Yes. A deep growl from within her. Like Bo's voice, but strangely distorted.

Good, very good. He sounded like he was praising a dog. The brunette could feel that Alistair and her beast continued to communicate, but all she could "hear" from this point on was a humming noise. A second later, it was over. Bo's eyes turned back to brown, but Alistair's kept their yellow shine.

Kenzi had watched the interaction intently and stood open-mouthed, unable to pry her eyes away from his. "Wow. So, when I woke up that one night…", she breathed, lost in a memory. "I did see yellow eyes, didn't I? It wasn't a dream at all."

Smiling, he shook his head. "No, it wasn't. That night, you saw me right after a feed. Luckily, you were half asleep, so selling you the old dream story worked." He winked at her. "Contrary to Bo here, I cannot influence the colour change, but the principle is the same for both of us. Feeding affects our eyes." He turned back to the brunette. "You said that when you suck chi, you feel like you're losing control, right?"

"Yes. Like when I kissed Lauren", Bo said, remembering the incredible sensation and the doctor's divine essence.

"It all adds up", Alistair stated, taking a deep breath. "I think I know what's happened to you and Lauren, and I also think I can help you find a way to control your future feeds. It might take you some time to learn, but you would no longer endanger your beloved doctor… or Kenzi, for that matter."

Mouth agape, Bo shot her friend a look, who just shrugged and grinned at her. "That'd be amazing, but…" She interrupted herself and cleared her throat. "I really don't want to sound ungrateful, but what exactly do you mean when you say 'it might take some time'? How long exactly?"

He shrugged. "That depends on how quick of a learner you are, but at least a month would be a realistic guess."

Bo let out a defeated breath. "I don't have that kind of time. I'm already feeling my hunger return, and I can't go back to killing… I just can't." She was starting to panic. It was only now that she realised how much she'd relied on the help of Kenzi's mysterious friend. And when she found out that he was fae, her hopes of finding a solution to her murderous problem had at least tripled. But his simple statement took it all away. With hanging shoulders, she walked to the sofa and slumped into the cushions, burying her face in her hands.

"You could feed off me", Alistair suggested with a shrug. "You know, to bridge the gap."

Both women stared at him. Kenzi was the first to find her voice. "Ew!", she cried, trying to shake the images of her two friends having totally-gross sex.

Bo would've found her reaction funny, had she not been so confused. "Okay, first of all, I thought we'd established that I can't control my feeding. I don't want to hurt you. And secondly, Kenzi's right, I cannot have sex with you. That'd be… so wrong." He was grown up and all, but Bo got icky goosebumps even thinking about nailing this boy. He gave off more of a little-brother vibe.

Alistair snorted and rolled his eyes. "Wow, I keep forgetting you're new to this whole thing." They both glared at him, and he lifted his hands in a defensive gesture. "Alright, alright. First of all, you won't hurt me like you would a human." He approached Bo and kneeled on the floor in front of her. "Fae physiology is adapted to feeding, which means, you can feed from me, just like I fed from you earlier."

Bo was sceptical. "Are you saying you didn't have to control your feeding?"

He shook his head. "I'm saying I would only have to if I fed from a human. The fae have been doing this to each other for thousands of years, so our bodies are… used to it, if you will." He gave her a cheeky smirk. "And secondly: You and I don't have to have sex in order for you to satisfy your hunger. It's true that sexually charged chi is more potent, but for the time you need to learn control, the regular stuff will do. Want to give it a try?"

The brunette made a face and eyed Kenzi, who shrugged and nodded, giving her a look that said: What choice do we have? "Alright, let's try it. What do I do?"

"Just open your mouth as you normally would for a feed and listen to your inner succubus. No kissing required, I promise. Now, close your eyes and embrace the beast in you."

She did as told and focused on the sensation that usually went with her eyes changing colour. Then, she felt Alistair lean in closer and open his mouth, hovering right in front of Bo's. She felt the pull rise inside her, and for the first time ever, she didn't fight it. The young man's reasoning had made a lot of sense, and just like when he'd told them to get in the car a couple of hours ago, she trusted him. Gulp upon gulp of chi entered her, and she continued the flow until she was full up. Closing her mouth with a satisfied grin, she inhaled deeply. His chi had tasted different to any she'd ever had… more intense and overall better.

Except for Lauren's. Who was human.

Hm

Bo opened her eyes to a still-breathing and very-much-alive Alistair. A little shyly, she gave him a grateful nod. She was relieved – after all, he was the first person to ever survive a feed – but more importantly, she had to process her thoughts. Feeding from Lauren had tasted incredible… divine… out of this world. Her chi was unique, and Bo felt this weird certainty that none other would ever even begin to compare. But why was she so sure?

Then, she remembered something. With all the talk about feeding and the realisation that she'd never have to kill ever again, she'd completely forgotten the other important thing Alistair had told her earlier. "Hey, you said you had a hunch about what happened to Lauren and myself. What did you mean by that?"

Alistair got back on his feet and sat down next to her. "I communicated with your succubus, and she told me something that she hasn't been able to convey to you yet", he explained.

"Convey to me? What are you saying?"

"The reason why you can't control yourself when you're feeding is that you and your inner beast never communicated." Bo was about to protest, when he interrupted her with a gesture. "I'm not placing blame, just stating a fact. I know you didn't have a choice, as until a few days ago, you didn't even know what you were."

Her stance relaxed. "So, we have to learn to communicate?"

Alistair nodded. "It's the key to finding out how to curb your hunger. It's not enough to let your succubus loose like you usually do when you feed. Instead, you have to truly accept her, before you can achieve full control."

Bo chewed on her bottom lip. That was easier said than done. The thing inside her had made her kill all these innocent people, after all. How was she supposed to ever accept it… her? But more importantly… "What else did she say to you? What happened to Lauren and me?"

Alistair gave her one of his trademark grins. "You mated."

"Eh?", Kenzi chimed in and threw Bo a confused look. "Wait, you sexed her up? I thought you just kissed."

"We did only kiss!", Bo exclaimed, bewildered. "I swear, we didn't even have time to…" She turned to the still-grinning young man. "What the heck are you talking about?"

Alistair visibly enjoyed their confusion, which earned him another smack on his arm. "Hey, get real, joker. Enough already with the holier-than-thou fae bullshit", Kenzi scolded, now repeatedly poking him. "Tell us what happened to Bo and Dr Hotpants. No more speaking in riddles."

"Dr Hotpants?", Bo echoed with a bemused snort.

Kenzi shrugged. "Don't tell me you didn't notice her arse in those tight jeans of hers."

Bo grinned. She had indeed checked out Lauren's arse more than once on their way out of the building.

Alistair cleared his throat to get the women's attention back, and, rubbing his maltreated arm, he started explaining his theory: "The first time I saw you back in that alley, you weren't prepared for my gaze, so your guard was down", he said, looking at Bo, who nodded with a frown. "Thanks to my Spidey senses, I instantly saw your succubus. But there was something else beside her…" Trying to organise his thoughts, he cleared his throat. "You see, when I read someone, I look right into their soul, which is exposed to me to scrutinise if the other person isn't prepared."

"Okay, that sounds pervy", Kenzi stated, crossing her arms in front of her chest and throwing her friend an indignant look.

"How was I supposed to know you brought a fae… and a succubus, at that?", he defended himself. "I was caught off-guard as well, okay?"

Kenzi lifted her hand and made a gesture pretending to lock up her mouth and throwing away the key.

"Anyway", he continued with a huff, turning his attention back to Bo, "the short glimpse I got was enough to see that your inner beast wasn't alone. Your species is rare, so I haven't had the pleasure of reading many of you, but that's partly why I was so taken aback by my discovery…" He made a meaningful pause. "You see, when I feed from a human, I detect their fears and dreams and talents. Feeding from fae is similar, but I also sense their powers… I would, for example see a shifter's animal form or hear a siren's most delightful song. But when I read you, I found a third presence. At first, there was only your dominant human self and your somewhat suppressed succubus. But then, I saw traces of another person. A human. Someone, who wasn't you, incorporated in your beast. Someone she had bonded with and now craves. A true mate."

"Lauren…", Bo breathed, remembering all too well the energy crackling between the two upon their first meeting. The way the blonde's probing hand had felt on her back, the way she'd made love to her with only her eyes, and the way she'd spoken to her in that flustered manner. It seemed very likely that Lauren had felt their mutual connection as intensely as Bo – and before she'd even pulsed her.

Bo stared into space, so lost in thought that she never noticed her eyes shifting. "I need to see her again", she croaked, her voice full of yearning.

"That's your succubus speaking", Alistair stated, waking her from her trance. He stood up and crouched down in front of the brunette to get her full attention. "You cannot see her again, before you've learned to control your beast."

Bo huffed in frustration. "But how do I do that?", she sighed. "How am I supposed to learn without… practice?" She couldn't help a small smirk.

Alistair gave her a stern look. "No", he said in a berating tone. "You 'practice' on Lauren, you kill her. You have to understand that Kenzi's save was nothing but dumb luck. Your succubus won't allow a second interruption. Which is why you'll have to learn to communicate with her, before you do anything else."

"But how?", she repeated, jumping up from the sofa and throwing her arms in the air.

"We'll figure it out", Alistair assured her softly, glancing at Kenzi for help.

"We will", she affirmed, approaching Bo to wrap her in a hug. "Together."
