...
The morning after his birthday found him with a pounding headache. It felt as if someone had decided to beat his head in with a stick. Drinking wasn't something he did often and never so much. Keller would have him running through the inscription techniques. That was what he did the one time he had caught Harrison and the other Black Hawks drinking.
Sitting upon his bed his head swam and he nearly fell over back onto his bed. It took everything he had to move to the edge of his bed. He nearly threw up bile from his empty stomach.
Never again he nearly snarled. He would never again drink so much.
Slowly even more so than when he moved across his bed and went to his trunk. Opening it he pulled out a hangover cure and knocked it back. Only a few seconds later he was no longer swaying.
With a bone-cracking yawn, he changed into fresh clothes. A simple glance at his communication bracelet showed no one had tried to send a message. That was slightly surprising. He would have thought Keller would set up a meeting time. Oh well, he could wait.
Once he was done Harrison headed out of his room and down to the kitchen. There he found Sirius and Remus drinking coffee. At his arrival, both men looked up giving him a penetrating look.
After a moment Sirius said, "I would have thought you'd have slept longer."
Harrison yawned, "Hangover cure. Is XIII up yet?"
Remus shook his head, "Not yet. He will likely be awake soon. Though he could sleep longer he's not an early riser like you."
Harrison snorted. Yeah XIII hated mornings more than anything else in the world. That man was the laziest person he had ever met. He would rather spend his time in the woods or staring at the sky. Avoiding his responsibilities.
Kreacher unwillingly brought him tea which smelled as if it was made of laundry water and oatmeal that was only half cooked. Harrison decided it wasn't worth trying to eat or drink. Since the others weren't up yet he would wait. If he really wanted to eat before they woke then he would make it himself. He was a decent cook after all.
Sirius glanced at the pitiful food before him. Then he handed over his coffee and Harrison's eyes brightened. The coffee was good. It was good coffee even if it was a little too sweet for his taste.
Fifteen minutes after his arrival the others began to file in. The first was Molly who immediately ran into the kitchen. At least they would finally get food. The next was Arthur and Neville. Neville sat down beside him with a small smile. Harrison greeted him through sips of his coffee.
Ron and Hermione trudged in half an hour after Neville. Harrison ignored them as Molly put food in front of them. His magic automatically searched over the food. It searched for poisons or potions. He'd know something was used against him but not what. He didn't find anything in the food.
Everyone else filed in within minutes after that. Everyone filled their plates.
Neville asked quietly, "Do you have any plans?"
Harrison shook his head as he replied, "Not really. I plan on working on my technomagic projects. There are things in that I have to do alone but other than that I don't have any plans. Did you need something?"
Neville said with a blush, "I was wondering if you could show me technomagic. It was interesting to watch you using it during the meet."
He thought about it for a moment. There were so few technomages now. A few thought they wanted to get into it. But when they tried to they realized it was too much work.
Not immediately denying it he asked, "It's not an easy path that one. Do you have any ancient runes experience?"
Hermione said excitedly, "I do. Can you teach me?"
Harrison simply ignored her. Ancient Runes in Hogwarts was quite different from Nightingale's classes. It was more hands-on and they had to make rune sequences themselves. From what he understood Hogwarts was almost completely theory.
Neville answered not meeting his eyes, "No I don't."
Harrison drummed his fingers on the table in thought for a moment. Then he said, "I can let you look over my first-year notes but I'm not interested in taking an apprentice for Runes or Technomagic. I just don't have time for an apprentice right now."
Then he thought for a moment longer as he said, "I could teach you how to use a CAD but I don't have any on hand. You will need one that hasn't been used by someone else. It would have to be calibrated to you by a magical engineer."
There was a heavy wince from Neville before he said, "Would that be difficult?"
Harrison sighed, "Depends on what kind of magic you would want inlayed into the CAD. You should probably stick with low-level magic such as Shock Bolt and stay away from ones such as Extinction Ray. I can do the inlays but you will have to get a CAD yourself."
Neville no longer looked like he wanted to learn about technomagic. He muttered something about thinking about it. It made him want to sigh and shake the other boy. If he wanted to do anything he had to be willing to put in the work.
Before he could say as such a bleary-eyed XIII came in. He grumbled to everyone and took a seat on the other side of Harrison. He pulled toast and coffee towards him and glared at anyone who tried to speak to him. Harrison simply hid a grin over his cup of coffee.
