Jim in his troll-half form stumbles upon a strange door that takes him to another universe, where he encounters Hilda who has recently been turned into a troll and is trying to change back into a human. The two of them become friends as they try to return to being human and help both the trolls and the human citizens of Trolberg.

The next morning both Hilda and Jim woke up, gathered Twig, Alfur,Tontu, Johanna, and Baba together to discuss their dreams. Jim told everyone about his battle with Kelly, which really impressed Hilda. Not just anyone could beat a Marra and chase them out of their dreams, especially one as nasty and mean as Kelly.

After Jim was done talking, Hilda went next and told them about her encounter with Amma and what the giant troll had told her. Everyone was stunned by the news and revelation that a giant troll slept under Trolberg and the trolls outside the city simply wished to be reunited with their mother.

"Maybe this whole me being a troll thing isn't such a bad thing. I met Jim, then I met Amma, and now we know what the trolls want. Maybe if I talk to some trolls and explain why they feel a calling to the city we could calm them down and make them act peaceful and less hostile to humans. Then we could maybe talk the Safety Patrol and the towns folk into letting the trolls into the city. Amma could talk and reconnect with her children, the trolls would no longer want to attack humans, and the humans would no longer fear trolls. Everyone wins." Said Hilda.

"It's a lot to take in, but I like your idea of bringing peace to the trolls and humans." Said Jim.

"Sounds easier said then done. I don't have a doubt you can convince the trolls to be peaceful and civil, but I have my doubts about the Safety Troll listening to you. There very eager to fight trolls, not to mention the years of fear and prejudice the people of Trolberg have against trolls." Johanna.

"But I have to try mom." Said Hilda.

"I know Hilda, but let's focus on seeing if we can turn you back into a human and Baba back into a troll first before we speak to the Safety Patrol. I'm sure your friends and those witches you mentioned would be very interested in knowing about Amma. Maybe they can help us convince the Safety Patrol to let the trolls into the city." Said Johanna.

"Ok." Said Hilda.

"So what exactly happened to that shadow monster, Amma chased off?" Asked Jim.

"Don't know. Why you ask?" Said Hilda.

"Just wanted to know if it's still roaming the world or if it's locked up somewhere." Said Jim.

"Why do you want to know that?" Asked Tontu.

"Just curious." Said Jim with a shrug.

The little meeting ended as the group waited for the sun to set and for Frida and David to arrive.
