"Come on, slugger … it's time to get up."
Mark raised his little head and blinked twice before rolling over in his tiny bed and dozing off again, with a tiny smile on his lips. Gar had just finished changing his daughter's diaper when he noticed it. He did a double take, as he had seen that smile before.
It was Raven's smile, small and subtle
"How did I not ever notice that before?" He muttered to himself.
He picked Coraline up, and she opened her mouth in a tiny yawn of her own. He kissed her forehead before ambling over to his son's bed. He nudged it vigorously with his knee and the boy sat up.
"It's time to go see mom, champ."
"But all she does is sleep."
Raven had been in healing trance for almost three days. Gar periodically examined her wound, which looked nearly healed the night before. Wonder Girl volunteered to stay up and watch over Raven that night, promising to call Beast boy if she woke up.
"I think she's going to wake up soon, and we need to be there when that happens."
Mark nodded his agreement and quickly dressed up in his new outfit: a pint sized Doom Patrol uniform.
"I'm a super hero, just like you, dad."
Steve and Rita arrived the day after Raven began her healing trance. The uniform was a gift they brought for Mark. Garfield smiled when helped his son put on the uniform for the first time. He and Mark posed together in front of a large mirror that day.
"Mom might object to that, but if you want to be one when you get older, that will be up to you. But before we go see mom, I need to brush your hair first."
The brush was on top of a tall chest of drawers, on the far side of the room. Gar began to walk over to get it when it was suddenly encased in dark energy and levitated. The changeling quickly looked around the room.
"Raven?"
His call went unanswered. The brush glided over to Mark, who snatched it out of the air. Beast Boy's mouth became slightly ajar.
"Mark … did you do that?"
The boy smiled. "Did I do it right, dad? I tried to do it just like mommy."
The changeling's mouth opened, and at first no sound came out. He cleared his throat.
"You did it just fine, champ. How … when … I didn't know you could do that. Did mom teach you? … Of course not, she didn't know you're her son before." Gar mumbled to himself.
"I watched her … it's fun … can't you do it dad?"
Gar chuckled. "No … I can't, you see … that always been mom's thing. But … she's your mom … of course you have her powers … why wouldn't you?"
An alarmed expression appeared on his face.
"Mark … have you ever broken, anything … you know … not on purpose?"
"I dropped a dish once, at the dinner table."
"No, no, not that … I mean, you know … by thinking."
The boy shook his head.
"Mark … do you ever feel angry … for no reason?"
"No reason?"
"You know … just because."
Again the boy shook his head. Gar heaved a sigh of relief. The boy was one quarter demon, but where that quarter demon was hiding was anyone's guess.
"When mom wakes up, I want you to show her your new trick, OK?"
The boy nodded eagerly. Gar patted him on the head.
"OK, we're all ready, let's go see mom."
-( - )-
Much to Garfield's joy, the three of them found Raven standing next to her med station, snapping shut the clasp to her cloak. The changeling looked at his son, who was smiling.
"See, slugger, I told you she'd wake up today."
The boy released his father's hand and ran to his mother. Before he reached her, he leaped into the air and flew the rest of the way. An astonished and wide eyed Raven caught him, and after she hugged him she locked eyes with her mate. No words were exchanged. Gar smiled and shrugged his shoulders.
"I guess he also takes after his mom." He remarked in a sheepish voice. He approached his mate and wrapped his spare arm around her. "Move over, champ, it's dad's turn now."
Mark levitated away and hovered while Beast Boy handed Coraline to her mother, and pulled his wife into a deep kiss. The tender moment was shattered by a loud shout.
"He can fly!? Since when can he fly!?"
Cyborg and Bumblebee were standing at the infirmary's entrance. The Tin Man's jaw was agape.
"Come on, Sparky. Flying isn't a big deal."
He turned to his fiancée and gave her an incredulous look. "It is when you do it without wings."
Karen shook her head. "Oh for Pete's sake, he is Raven's son. It isn't all that surprising that he inherited some of her powers."
Vic rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm still not used to that. But yeah, you're right." He turned back to Raven. "Good to see you're finally up, little lady. How are you feeling?"
The Logans released each other. "I'm feeling well, Victor, thank you. I'm also famished."
He raised an index finger to shush her. "Don't say another word. I'll be more than happy to make you a country breakfast, Stone family style."
"You mean with pork chops and those hash browns you make with cheese." A slight bit of drool trickled out of the corner of her mouth.
"You'd better believe it!"
Beast Boy wasn't as enthusiastic with the menu offered and pouted.
"Oh come on, Gar. I eat vegetarian with you all the time."
"I suppose it's a lost cause." He grumbled. "But I guess you've earned it."
-( - )-
After breakfast the Logans returned to their suite. Mark was watching Saturday morning cartoons in the bedroom while his parents were in the small living room area. Raven had just finished nursing their daughter when there was a knock on the door.
"It's open, come in." Raven called out.
The door slid open, revealing Nightwing's figure. He had a manila folder in his hands. Gar gestured him to enter, and he did. He sat down on the couch next to Raven.
"So, how are you feeling?" He asked her.
"Pretty good, there is still some tenderness and tightness in my chest, but that should be gone soon."
"Good … you were offline for a long time … you also look like you lost some weight."
She gave him one of her small, little Raven smiles. "OK smooth talker, what do you really want?"
Grayson sighed. "I'm sorry, but we need to talk about Alexa."
Gar tensed up and Raven frowned.
"Don't tell me that you came here to arrest Gar." She growled in a dangerous voice.
The changeling raised his hand. "It's OK; Raven … I did kill her. Dick's only doing what he has to do."
Nightwing leaned forward, lowered his head and nodded. "The police wanted a report on how Alexa died."
Raven glared at Nightwing. "You know very well that he wasn't himself. He has next to no control when the Beast makes an appearance."
"I know, but the district attorney won't buy it. He's up for reelection this year, and he wants to look tough on crime. If he doesn't charge Gar with the murder, he'll look soft, like he's playing favorites."
Raven leaped to her feet.
"To Trigon with you and your anal retentive devotion to the law! This is just like the first time the Beast appeared, you're just going to throw Gar under the bus again. If that's how it's going to be, then we'll go back to Azarath, and don't think you can stop us, bird boy!"
Grayson pursed his lips. "I wouldn't dream of trying to stop you."
"Good, I see that you're not a complete idiot." She huffed.
Nightwing handed the manila envelope to Beast Boy. "This is a copy of the official report I sent to the police. I think you should read it."
Gar opened the envelope and dropped its contents on the table. The first thing he saw were the pictures of Alexa's corpse on the blood stained boulders. He closed his eyes and a small tear leaked out of his right eye.
"Don't feel bad, Beast Boy … sometimes the villains die." Nightwing consoled him.
"She wasn't evil … she was mentally disturbed. She should have ended up in a sanitarium … not in a morgue."
"Maybe … but it's too late for that now … read the report."
Garfield picked up the report. Raven scooted next to him and they read it together. They finished at the same time. Gar shook his head in disbelief. Raven made eye contact with Nightwing.
"Dick, the only thing that's true in that report is that Alexa fell to her death. Everything else is a lie."
Beast Boy was staring at one passage in general, reading it over and over.
" … after a Slade-bot shot Raven in the back Alexa Pontone fled to the roof, where two escape pods are located. She was pursued by the robots. Alexa made it to the roof and boarded an escape pod. Before she could launch the pod it was damaged and she was removed from it by the robots. She broke free from them, but in a botched attempt to escape she lost her footing and fell to her death …"
Beast Boy looked up at Grayson. "You're covering up for me. Dick, this is perjury. This isn't what happened."
Nightwing crossed his arms. "I know."
"But why?" Raven asked.
"Because he isn't guilty and I don't trust the DA. The police are satisfied with the report and the case is closed … there is a problem, though."
"What is it?" Gar asked.
"No one has come forward to claim her body … which means we have to bury her to complete the charade … in the report I identified her as a long time friend of Beast Boy who was under our protection. I'm sorry guys … I hate to put you through this, after all she did to you."
"It's OK, Dick; she really was once my friend, before she went crazy. I'd rather remember her as my brilliant classmate than a lunatic who went so far as to create Mark in a test tube to use as a wedge between me and Raven."
Raven nodded her agreement. "I agree with Gar, she belonged in an institution, not in a grave. We should honor the person she used to be."
Nightwing rose. "I'll take care of all the arrangements. You guys just rest and do family stuff, you've more than earned it."
"I'd like to give the eulogy." The changeling blurted out.
"Sure … that sounds like a good idea."
Nightwing headed for the door, but stopped and turned before leaving. "Oh, I forgot to tell you, I called your parents at the hotel. They'll be coming over at noon … they want to take all of you out for lunch … at some really fancy place."
The door slid shut and Grayson was gone.
"Your parents are here?"
"Yeah, I called them as soon as you started your healing trance. They dropped everything and flew out here right away."
Raven looked disturbed.
"Is something wrong?"
"Your mother, she isn't my favorite person in the world."
"Come on Rave, she's crazy about Mark and Coraline and believe it or not, she really likes you now. When you were in your trance, Rita was really worried about you."
Raven sighed.
"I don't know, she's never really accepted me."
"Give her a chance."
She sighed a second time. "As if getting shot in the back wasn't bad enough."
"Raven, she really wants to bury the hatchet, I'm serious."
"Alright … I'll try … but no promises."
-( - )-
A few hours later …
"Grandpa, grandpa! Look what I can do!" Mark cheered as he flew around the room in his human form.
"That's very impressive, Mark, someday you can join the Doom Patrol."
The boy stopped flying and hovered in front of Mento. "Really!?"
"Now wait a minute, Mark's going to be a Titan!" Beast Boy smirked.
"After I train him." Mento shot back, with a grin on his face.
Raven and Rita watched the scene unfold. "Men, they're all alike, territorial to their dying breath." Rita remarked.
"Well, Mark is Gar's son, and I agree with him, if Mark chooses the path of a superhero, he should be a Titan."
Rita smiled. "I suppose you're right. But you can't blame Steve … when Garfield quit the team he took it very personally. It wasn't just Beast Boy who quit the Doom Patrol; it was our son who left."
"Is that why you don't like me, Rita? Because I stole your son from you?"
Rita shook her head. "Raven, I'm sorry about how I treated you before. You're right; I blamed all of you for taking Gar away from us. The truth is that we drove him away. His becoming a Titan was the second best thing that ever happened to him."
"The second best? May I ask what was the best thing that ever happened to him?"
Rita smiled and caressed Coraline's sleeping face. "Isn't it obvious? He married you."
A slight hint of a blush appeared on the sorceress's cheeks.
"Thanks … I wasn't expecting that complement from you … it's … appreciated … Rita … I know I'm not a great catch. I'm a creepy girl with a foul temper and if that wasn't bad enough I have a demonic heritage too. I … guess I understand why you were unhappy with Gar's choice. You're his mother and you want the best for him, just like how I want the best for Mark and Coraline."
"Raven … don't sell yourself short. You and Garfield, you're a great couple. I know there was a time I preferred that psychotic blond over you … I'm so sorry."
"Don't be … had Alexa not been a psychopathic, self centered whore, she would have been a better choice for Gar."
Rita shook her head. "No … you're wrong."
"How so? Alexa was both stunningly intelligent and beautiful. I'm a short mousy, gray woman. Had she had decent morals she would have been an incredible catch."
Rita placed a hand on her daughter-in-law's shoulder. "You forgot something, dear … you love my son … she never did."
Raven looked up into Rita's eyes. "Thanks … sometimes I wish I was more beautiful … for him. I wish I looked like you."
Rita cupped Raven's face in her palm. "Don't be silly … he already thinks you're beautiful … and he's right."
"Thank you … hearing that from you means a lot to me."
Coraline yawned as she slowly woke up.
"Now how about I hold my granddaughter for a bit, before we go out for lunch?"
Mento tapped Beast Boy on the shoulder and gestured towards the two women. Garfield turned, looked and smiled when he saw the two most important ladies in his life starting to get along with each other.
It was about time.

"Hey Chrome Dome!"
"What's up, grass stain?" Cyborg looked up from a stack of paperwork he was reading while seated on the couch.
"You still play video games?"
"Does a bear poop in the woods?"
"They do, and I can tell you that from personal experience."
Cyborg gave him a disgusted look. "Are you telling me that you've taken a dump in the forest?"
"Well, yeah … I was hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park."
"You mean you couldn't wait? You just went and dropped a load?"
"It's not like there was a toilet nearby."
"So you morphed into a bear to do it?"
The changeling already had the game controller in his hands and with a satisfied grin on his face he set up the game. "Videogames, it's like riding a bike; you never forget how to do it. And yes, I morphed into a bear, just so I could say that I know from firsthand experience that bears poop in the woods."
Cyborg gave him a dismayed look. "Have I ever told you that you're a weird little dude?"
"If I recall correctly, you told me that the day we first met."
"Does your wife know?"
"That I'm weird or that I morphed into a bear and took a crap in the woods?"
Cyborg hesitated before answering. "Uh … both?"
The changeling grinned.
"Yeah, she knows … so are you gonna play or not? Cuz this time I'm whup your shiny metal ass."
Cyborg slapped his sheaf of papers down and picked up the other controller. "Oh, you are so going down, green bean."
The friends began to play. As usual, Cyborg won most of the matches. The usual banter of trash talk and idle boasting appeared and the two friends forgot that they were now adults and for about a magical moment they were teenagers again. Finally, after an hour had passed the changeling put down his controller.
"You haven't lost your touch, Cy."
Vic snorted. "Are you kidding? Since I upgraded to the Maxx-9 processor, I'm invincible."
"I did win two games, Chrome Dome."
"Only because I let you win, Grass Stain."
"So now I'm a charity case?"
"Hey, if the shoe fits."
Garfield laughed. "I've always thought that you're good enough to be a pro."
"Me, a professional gamer? Nah!"
Beast Boy leaned back on the couch. "That's too bad … oh … by the way; I'm officially in charge of your bachelor party, which I've already scheduled for next Saturday."
"Next Saturday?"
"You heard right, dude. It's an all day event, so clear your calendar for that day."
Cyborg rubbed his head in dismay. "And you're in charge? What do you have planned?"
Beast Boy grinned. "Sorry, Cy, it wouldn't be a surprise if I told you."
Cyborg suddenly looked worried. "Listen, I'm sorry about that stripper dressing up as Raven …"
"Forget it, all is forgiven … this is going to be a bachelor party you're gonna love. Trust me. No sleazy strip joints either. This gonna be first class all the way."
"You mean we're going to fancy strip club?"
The changeling guffawed. "I don't think there is such a thing, so no strip joints … and don't ask me where I 'm taking you, it's supposed to be a surprise. Just relax, you're gonna love it."
Cyborg pursed his lips before replying. "Ok, I'll that trust it won't be anything that will piss Karen off if she finds out."
-( - )-
Starfire watched as Raven laid Coraline down in her crib. A smile appeared on her face while she rubbed her own swollen midsection.
"They are so precious when they are bumgorfs."
Raven smiled. "I haven't heard you say that word in a long time."
"Yes, I only said it for old time's sake."
"Our lives were a lot simpler back then."
"But they were not as rich as they are now."
"We were practically children back then. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't give up what I have now for anything … but sometimes … sometimes I miss being a teenager, even though we didn't have what anyone might call a normal childhood." Raven remarked.
"Yes, I understand. And now, our good friend Cyborg is about to wed Karen … Raven, I have a favor to ask of you."
Raven looked up at her tall and statuesque friend. "Sure, anything … what do you need?"
"While you were healing, I was asked to organize a bachelorette party for Bumblebee. I do not have any experience in doing this Earthly tradition … I was wondering if you would assist me?"
Raven had to stifle a laugh. "Me? You want the demon girl from Azarath to help you organize a bachelorette party? You might as well ask me to be an altar server at the cathedral downtown while you're at it."
"I do not ask you because of your experience, but more because of your good taste. In hindsight, I know that you did not enjoy your party."
"I didn't … it was tawdry and in poor taste."
"So, will you help me, Raven?" The princess grinned hopefully.
"Well, knowing Karen, she probably does want a room full of beefcake … hmmm … I have an idea."
"You do?"
"Yes, but I need to call in some favors."
"Favors? From whom?"
Raven grinned. "From the Justice League."

So, as promised, some winding down. There is still plenty of stuff to cover, and most of it will be fluffy. Next chapter we will learn what will happen with Rose. And there will be some news regarding the five Teens. And the parties … so while the adventures are over; there is plenty of stuff to wrap up still. Stay tuned.
I have a question for you readers: what should the name of the Grayson's second kid be? It will be a boy.
One thing that surprised me: your reaction to learning that Raven is Mark's biological mother. I was kind of expecting all of you to explode, but the reaction wasn't what I expected. Just goes to show how little I really know.
And now, it's mailbag time.
elixxxrAngel – The signs were there. They were subtle; I didn't want it to be too obvious.

Shadico – Yup, time to wrap it up and put it under the tree.
mlbv-grimm – Just a fancy way of saying what will happen to her.
