The first thing Danny registers while still in a sleepy daze is his sisters voice shouting from somewhere downstairs, a few second later he hears his mother's voice overpowering Jazz's with his dad's joining in a few moments later. Turning his head Danny checks the clock he has on his bedside table to see its almost 12 o'clock, groaning as he realises he slept in he rubs the sleep out of his eyes and climbs up from the floor stretching his back out.

When he tries to think back to the night before he struggles to remember coming home or even leaving Tuckers house that day, which isn't that alarming considering Danny's track record of forgetting things recently but it's still odd. Finishing his stretches he tries to think back to what could have happened last night that would make him wake up not on his bed but on the floor, struggling to place what it was exactly he makes his way over to his already opened door as he continues to think back. It seemed completely useless to try to clear the fog on his memories when he's just got up so he gives up in favour of getting to the bottom of the shouting coming from his family, as well as getting prepared to start his day.

As he moves closer to his door he realises that all his aches are amazingly gone and with that his body moves with more ease than he has felt in years, he can already tell its going to be a good day. Startling Danny sees his door wide open for the first time that morning assuming someone came and checked on him when he was asleep he just shrugs it off and marks it as something he'll ask about later along with what time he came home. He starts making his way down the stairs and quickly realises how cold they actually are, wishing that he put on socks to shield his feet from the freezing stairs he runs down as fast as possible jumping three steps at a time. When Danny reaches the bottom he is greeted by an empty living room and kitchen, that's when the alarm bells should have started ringing. He looks towards the open lab door and makes a hasty decision to go to where the shouting is coming from despite his instincts telling him to just turn around and run.

Now at the top of the stairs Danny peer into the darkness of the lab to try and get a sense of what he's walking in on, seeing a slight green hue he notes that the portal is open which isn't that unusual for a Saturday morning but is unusual for his parents to not close it in front of Jazz or himself unless it's apart of a teaching moment. Considering the shouting Danny suspected that that wasn't the case right now so he Prepares himself mentally for the confrontation he's about to willingly walk in on. Danny starts descending down the basement steps and heads towards the loud voices, making as little as to no noise as he does.

As he gets closer he starts to hear the words more clearly, something about a new invention that has Jazz furious at their parents and something to do with last night. Danny tries to think back to his parents ramblings from the day prior but can't place what would possibly make Jazz this angry at their parents, let alone something that would make her resort to shouting at them. A feeling of unease starts to fill Danny. When he nears the bottom steps the he sees glowing ectoplasm coving most of the labs floor and its equipment. Freezing in his tracks he looks at his also ectoplasm covered parents from the last few steps and he suddenly starts to feel a huge pit in his stomach that makes him want to be violently sick. As much as he tries Danny can't seem to tear his eyes off of his bloodied parents as he sees the ectoplasm slowly drip down the front of their jumpsuits and onto the cold lab floor, making the puddle under them slightly bigger with each drop.

His whole body felt completely numb and somehow like he was on fire at the same time. The shouting from Jazz starts to sounds distant in Danny's ears as his focus moves onto the lab table where a bloody body lays, dripping even more ectoplasm onto the ground. He slowly lifts his hand up to his mouth in a weak attempt to hold in the sick feeling that continues to spread through him. Tears begin to form in his eyes and Danny can't tell if it's from the shock of it all or whether it's from him not blinking in a while. Squeezing his eyes closed he feels a few of the tears fall down his cheeks as his shoulders begin to shake.

His hands find their way into his hair and he pulls it trying to ground himself and tries to remember to breath. Choking, that's all Danny feels as he realises he can't take a breath in or out. It's like his body has forgotten how to take in air.

As he slowly begins to calm himself he hears Jazz's screams come back into the foreground, getting louder and louder causing Danny's head to throb until it became too much. Snapping his eyes open he quickly focuses his eyes on Jazz's blurry form but making sure to keep his gaze away from everything else in the room. Blinking away the rest of his tears Danny finally gets a clear look at his sisters face for the first time, it makes his heart ache. Her face is red with either anger or from shouting and her eyes bloodshot and swollen as the tears pour from them, freely flowing down her cheeks and onto the ground. As soon as he saw his sister look like that Danny wished he never even looked her way.

It was unusual. Jazz was never this emotional. She use logic and facts to prove her points and always stood tall, not hunched in on herself like how she was now. She didn't just lose her cool like that, and she definitely wouldn't be shouting at their parents unless something was terribly wrong.

Danny takes the last steps forward and finally makes it to the bottom of the lab stairs, slowly he forces himself to speak up.

"Jazz?"

All the noise in the lab stopped so suddenly that Danny could hear the slow drips of ectoplasm hit the floor drop by drop. After a life time of silence and staring Jazz was the first to speak, her voice horace from shouting and so small in a whisper as if she was scared to talk.

"...danny?"

"What's all the shouting about? It woke me up," rubbing the back of his neck with a nervous laugh Danny looks at the floor before continuing,

"I erm... It's really messy down here. Did an invention break?"

Before he even had the chance to react Jazz was in front of him. Why was she putting herself between him and their parents? Staring at her messy hair flowing down her back it looked so beautiful in the light of the portal, she definitely inherited that from their mother.

"Jazz?"

Nobody answered. He could hear her heavy breathing and couldn't help but wonder what face she had on. Moving his eyes away from her back he let's his gaze finally linger on his ectoplasm covered parents,

"Mum... dad?"

Still nobody spoke,

"What's going on?"

Nothing. It was like he wasn't even here, why were they not speaking to him?

"Hey honey why don't we start dinner, I could use your help with the dishes." Why did his mother sound so ... reserved. Moving past Jack she swiftly made her way up the stairs not even looking his way, her eyes stayed glued to the top of the lab entrance.

"... Mads..."

She stopped.

"Your jumpsuit."

Continuing up the stairs without a word Maddie disappeared from sight, leaving a trail of ectoplasm in her wake.

"Jazz?"

"Let's get you upstairs," Turning around so fast it made Danny recoil, "we don't want you in this... horrid place."

Her face was red, her eyes looks so tired Danny wondered how long she's been crying for, her eyebrows drawn together. Why did she look so concerned? He's forcibly reminded of the ghost that lays just a few meters away from him. Does she just expect him to leave them with their father? He stares at her. She looks so demoralised, crushed. Why? He looks back to Jack, he still refuses to meet his gaze.

"Dad.."

He flinched. He can hear him, why doesn't he acknowledge him then.

"What are you working on?"

His fist clenched.

"It's messy down here."

A deep breath.

"Dan-"

"Why's the portal open?"

"Danny."

"What was the shouting about?"

"Now isn't-"

"Am I not here!?" Raising his voice, he feels himself quiver.

"DAD!"

Slamming his hands down onto the bloody utensils his dad quickly storms up the stairs following Maddie. Letting out an exasperated breath he looks watches his dad leave the basement.

"Jazz why is-"

"Let's go."

"No. Jazz what's going on?"

"...Danny." She sounds close to tears again, looking into her eyes Danny stands up straighter,

"Jazz."

Closing them Jazz places her head into her hands, her shoulders start shaking, she's crying. He reaches out to touch her but his hand disappeared into her chest, blinking he stares at his hand or lack thereof. He didn't realise he was intangible, why was he intangible?

Looking past her shoulder Danny moves forward past his sisters shaking form and closer to the ghost thats on the table, it looks completely horrific, the poor thing must have gone through so much pain it's a miracle they're still even solidified. Reaching out he hurriedly touches the restraints holding the ghost to the table, or at least he tries to but his hand goes through it just like it had Jazz. Feeling frustrated at his lack of control over his own body he turns around to see his sister now on her knees.

"Jazz will you help me! We need to free them, they need to go back to the zone! Quick. They need to regain their strength, the ectoplasm here isn't strong enough to help them!"

She didn't move, in fact his words seemed to make her curl into herself more, her breathing getting harsher and her chest heaving as she tried to stifle her sobs.

"JAZZ PLEASE!"

Still nothing. Quickly looking at the ghost again he now directs his words to them.

"It's going to be okay, I'm going to get you out of here don't worry!"

Trying again he goes for the restraints, and again, again. AGAIN. Letting out a panicked noise he tries to build up a blast in his palm only getting sparks he once again begins pleading Jazz for help, she continues to cry, every word seemed to cut deeper than the last.

Still trying to get ahold of the cuffs keeping the bloody ghost to the table he raises his voice,

"JAZZ COME ON! GET UP!"

"...danny"

"THEY NEED OUR HELP!"

Feeling his hand finally grip the cuff he froze, it sent a shock through his body, it wasn't opening. He saw Jazz in his peripheral vision.

"Danny you need to listen to me."

"Jazz get them!"

"He's already gone."

Looking at her face fully, she's trying to hold it together for him.

"He's gone."

"But- but he's right there.."

"We should go."

"Not without letting him go!"

She slowly moves over and opens the cuffs on the ghosts wrists and legs with shakey hands, turning around with her eyes ablaze with an emotion he's never seen on her face before.

"SEE!"

Stepping forward in he stares at the ectoplasm covered body, if he can even call it that anymore. Its body barely resembles anything, he could see the cavity where the ghosts core should be.

"Oh."

His parents had taken the core? The ghost isn't there anymore, not without its core. It's dead. It's gone. His parents.. killed one of his kind. This explains all he ectoplasm, explains why Jazz would be so angry, his parents murdered an innocent person that wasn't strong enough to get away. How could he defend his parents now, he doesn't think he'd even be able to stomach seeing them. They killed someone and where was he? Asleep? How could he not be there. His own core hurts, he couldn't protect them, ghost or not he should have been there to help, to protect.

He rakes his eyes up to the ghost head to see its been covered with a sheet, it seems his parents couldn't look at the face of the person they were killing. He reaches to pull it off, he at least had the dignity to look at the innocent creature, after all they deserve to have someone remember their face. Jazz doesn't stop him as he pulls the sheet back, as well does he wonders why the ghost is still solid, it should be nothing but a puddle of ectoplasm without its core. Closing his eyes and bowing his head, the sheet finally comes off, as he opens his eyes he sees himself staring back. His green eyes open, his lips stained from the ectoplasm that seems to have come from his throat. His sunken cheeks even more pale than usual.

His body freezes. Staring into his own cold dead eyes. Guess today wasn't going to be as great as he thought.
