Inheritance

Winry had assured everyone that she had cleared her calendar for the rest of the week when they mentioned that there were a series of meetings this week. It would have been better for her to attend as well, according to Roy, but she was using the excuse of three small boys until the last day.

Roy's mother would be providing three babysitters on that day, but until then Winry could handle her own sons. Yuery had been doing better recently on controlling his temper. They had all agreed not to tell him yet that he was the cause of so many accidents around the house because the poor child had already been through a lot, and somehow seemed to have gained his father's guilt complex. Something that only added to Edward's own guilt complex, which was something Winry was trying to not think about right now.

The week had been going rather smoothly so far, even with the disruption in routine leaving the other three adults to miss both breakfast and dinner. They had been home in time for bed every night, and every morning Roy still got the boys up and dressed and Edward still helped them brush their teeth and hair, however they had to rush away just as breakfast arrived.

Winry hadn't noticed at first. She was certain no one else had either or Edward would have said something to her, but the accidents were getting more frequent again. Broken items, tipped over cups, twice the fireplace had flared. Yuery must have been more stressed about his routine change than she realized.

Winry was still determined to handle it on her own. These meetings with Creta were too important to interrupt over a few minor inconveniences. However, she did decide the boy needed both more one on one time and more busy work to keep his mind off his absent father.

Winry left Maes and William to play in the parlor with a set of blocks as she sat in the dining room with Yuery as he read his alchemy books. She could see her other two sons from where she sat, and Yuery was happily explaining to her the chemical balances of stone.

William and Maes started arguing a few minutes later over the last red block in the pile. William was making a pattern with them and the blue ones, whereas Maes didn't seem to have a set idea so much as wanting to make a wobbly tower to knock over. Winry had just excused herself for a moment with Yuery when William let out an angry yell and knocked over Maes tower.

Maes howled in frustration and Winry froze. The window behind the boys had long heavy drapes to counter the wind and cold. They were now smoldering. She caught up with herself quickly and rushed over to stamp out the fire before turning to her boys. "Okay, no more fighting you two. Come on lets go get something to eat." She said cheerfully, as she thought through what to do.

She knew what had happened. She had seen Yuery slip dozens of times over the years and knew what it looked like. That wasn't her concern. Her concern laid with her youngest son. Maes, not Yuery had caused the blaze. Maes, not Yuery had likely been causing the accidents all week.

Her son was a wizard. It shouldn't have been surprising to her. They knew it was possible after all. They had talked about it at great length as soon as Edward had learned of his own magical blood before Maes was born. It's why they decided that all their children would be born in Reseembool.

Somehow, however, Winry had not really thought this would happen. Not until she saw it for herself. Now she had to decide if this was the best time to tell her husband. He needed to concentrate on these meetings. This was a priority. However, he would be upset with her if she kept something like this from him, with good reason.

This afternoon was the meeting she couldn't skip, the babysitters would be here soon. She sighed heavily and set about cleaning up the mess the best she could. Luckily, everyone who could see the burns were aware of Yuery and were, like her, not going to look further than that.

Vanessa arrived while Winry was changing into a nice dress and greeted the children happily just as Winry came back out of her room with Maes on her hip. Winry reluctantly handed the boy over wo Vanessa's amusement. "You're just like Edward and Roy. They never want to hand the children off either. I remember the first time I babysat for them; Roy held the baby as he showed me around. I swear he nearly talked himself out of handing Yuery over to me!"

"Probably. We shouldn't be out long, and if you need anything just call. I can be back over here in less than five minutes." Winry said with a smile.

"Nonsense, you best be going, or you'll be late and make them look bad."

"Of, course. Wait I thought Madame was sending more people?" Winry said just before stepping out the door herself.

"She did, but they are on guard duty and waiting at the end of the hall should I need anything. I left their snacks on the counter." Winry said with a small smile before dropping her voice to add "Watch out for small accidents. He's acting it like he isn't affected by the change in routine, but he is. Keep the boys occupied and away from each other after the big fight."

Central Command

Winry arrived in the conference room on time and smiled around the room until she spotted her husband. She made her way over to him and was greeted warmly by her family.

It wasn't until they were getting ready to leave that she was able to pull Edward aside for a few minutes. She had decided he needed to know. "Ed. We need to replace the curtains in the parlor again." Winry said after they had said their goodbyes and were walking back to the mansion

"Awe man. It's the stress of change. Yuery's been doing well with his slips." Ed groaned with a frown, no doubt trying to think of a way that next time the boys could come with him.

"Yuery wasn't in there. He was happily explaining rocks to me. Maes was." Winry said with a sigh.

"…Oh." Ed said with a small frown. His son was a magic user too. He was trying to process this information.
