Today is Malina's first day of work. Ever since she was 8-years-old, she always had a dream to become a lawyer, especially to work at the best law firm in the city. The Beast and Briar Law Firm. Mal sighed happily as she looked out of the window of the taxi she was in. Her dream was finally coming true, well part of it. She was starting out as an assistant first but, she was hoping to work her way to being a lawyer.
Her dream of becoming a lawyer had started when she was in school. She would always fight to prove her point and win the argument. In debates when she was in High School, she would usually win the argument. People would tell her that she should become a lawyer and she'd become the best lawyer in the city. It took Mal 2 months before deciding that her dream job would be to become a lawyer, or more like the best lawyer in the city she lived in.
She saw the taxi driver pull up to the law firm as her heart started beating rapidly. She pulled out her purse and got out $30 and gave it to the driver.
"Thank you." Mal said before getting out of the car as the car took off. Mal took a deep breath to calm herself before walking into the tall building. She took the elevator to the 6th floor and got off to see people running around in the office.
"I need this to be copied!"
"Where is it?!"
"Where's my coffee?!"
"Give this to him!"
"I need this copied. Now!"
Mal was bumped into making her stumble backward before someone caught her.
"Woah, you alright? I swear these people are blind sometimes." She heard a man say behind her as they helped her up. "Haha, it's alright. I'm fine. Thank...you..." Mal said as she turned around and met a pair of blue eyes looking down at her. He smiled at her and held out his hand.
"Adam. Adam Beast. You are Malina, I suppose?" He asked as I nodded and shook his hand.
"Y-yes. Yes, but it's-it's Mal for short."
"Right. Well, Miss. Mal. Ben's in his office right now but, I'm sure you can just go on ahead." Adam told Mal as he pointed to his office.
"Okay, thank you." Mal said before walking towards Ben's office and lightly knocking on the door.
"Come in!" She heard a voice yell. She quietly and quickly walked into the office and closed the door before turning around to see a handsome man with hazel-green eyes, honey-brown hair, and fair skin talking on the phone.
"Yes, yes I will." Ben said into the phone as he turned and gave a small smile to Mal before pointing to the couch.
"Just one minute." He mouthed as Mal nodded and sat quietly on the couch.
"No, no. Don't worry about it! I'll be at the meeting tomorrow with her. Yes. Well...This is her case. You asked me- Alright, alright." Ben said as he looked at Mal and rolled his eyes making her giggle quietly.
"Oooh, he's hot." Mal thought to herself as Ben continued talking on the phone and writing something on a piece of paper.
"Alright, yes. Yes. Okay, thank you. Yeah. Bye." Ben said before putting the phone down and sighing before smiling at Mal.
"I'm sorry about that. Just another client who doesn't want my sister involved with his case. Anyways, you must be Malina." He said walking over to Mal who stood up and nodded.
"Well, it's actually Mal. I go by Mal." She said making Ben nod.
"Mal. I like that name." He said making Mal blush and look down.
"Thank you." She whispered out making Ben chuckle.
"Um. Anyways, you'll have your own office but...It's outside. Next to Lonnie's. I'm sure when she sees you she'll show you. All you'll have to do for me is just file stuff, get what I need, be there with me in meetings I have, and basically just help me in stuff I need you in. Sounds good?"
"Yes."
"Alright. For now, I'll just have Lonnie show you your desk and I'll let you settle in, okay?"
"Okay." Mal said as Ben smiled and opened the door, letting Mal out before he spotted Lonnie.
"Lonnie!" Ben called out making the black-headed girl look at him.
"Hey, Ben. What's up?"
"Can you please show Mal to her desk?"
"Of course! Come on." Lonnie said as Mal smiled and followed her.
"So, Mal right?"
"Yeah."
"Is it short for something?"
"It's short for Malina but like using Mal."
"Oh, that's cool. My name's Lonnie. I would've used Lon for a nickname but...I never liked it." Lonnie said making the two girls laugh. Lonnie showed Mal to her desk as Mal put her stuff on the table.
"You can put your bag in the drawer so it's not in your way. That's what all the girls working in the building do." Lonnie said making Mal nod.
"Wait...How many girls work in the building?"
"Well...Including me...I would say 8."
"Okay." Mal said as she put her bag in the drawer and stood up straight.
"Well, I have to go to a meeting with Nicole. What exactly did Ben say for you to do?" Lonnie asks Mal as Mal shrugs.
"He just said for me to settle in." "Alright then. Just...Have a look around. Ben would probably call you later." Lonnie tells Mal before smiling at her and walking away. Mal took a deep breath before looking around and walking to a random place.
MAL'S POV:
As I was walking around, I turned a corner and saw the guy that caught me before which I think his name was Adam, making out with another lady as he pushed her against the wall and put his hand around her throat making her moan softly.
"Oh, my god! I'm so sorry!" I said jumping back as the two broke apart.
"I just remembered...I have a lunch date with a friend of mine. I gotta go." The lady said before giving a short, sweet kiss on Adam's lips and then walking past me. I looked down, blushing with embarrassment as Adam cleared his throat.
"Mal...I thought you were supposed to be with Ben." He said as he fixed his tie and walked towards me.
"He told me to settle in and get comfortable with the building since I'll be working here now. I'm so sorry for interrupting." I said as Adam shook his head.
"No, no. It's alright. You didn't do anything wrong." He said as I nodded my head.
"Anyways. I have a meeting in a few minutes, I have to go." Adam said as he glanced at his wristwatch and looked down at me.
"Alright. Oh um...Where are the bathrooms?"
"Other hall. Left door." He said as I nodded.
"Thanks." I said before walking away as quickly as I could. Once I got in the bathrooms, I closed the door and went into one of the stalls, and leaned on the wall.
"God! First day and you already embarrassed yourself!" I exclaimed as I put my head in my hands.
"And isn't he married?! To another lady?! Oh, god. Did I just witness him having an affair?!" I thought to myself before I took a deep breath to calm myself down.
"Okay, okay. Breathe. Just...breathe." I said, taking another deep breath and running my fingers through my hair. Mal walked out of the stall and looked at herself in the mirror. She saw her cheeks were as red as tomatoes.
"Oh, my god. Stop. Blushing!" She yelled before there was a knock on the bathroom door.
"Everything alright in there?" She heard Lonnie say.
"Um. Y-yes. I'm alright! I'll be out in a second!" Mal said before fixing her hair and going over to the door, unlocking it and opening it to smile at Lonnie.
"Hey. Ben just asked me if you could help him with something."
"Oh, okay." Mal said before following Lonnie to Ben's office once again.
9 HOURS LATER
It was already 8 at night and Mal was already tired. People were already leaving their offices leaving Mal, Ben, Adam, the lady Mal caught Adam with, a boy Mal hadn't met yet, and another girl who Mal hadn't talked to yet.
"Hey, Mal." Ben said as he walked up to her desk. Mal looked up and smiled at him.
"Hey."
"Hey, you're free to go. I don't need you to do anything for me for the rest of the night. My dad will be-"
"Wait, I'm sorry. Did you say your Dad?" Mal asked confusingly as Ben chuckled softly.
"Yeah. My Dad...Adam Beast." He replied as he pointing across the room to Adam who was talking to a girl with black curly hair and hazel eyes and the same lady who Mal caught him making out with in one of the hallways.
"That's your Dad?"
"Yeah." "Huh...Explains why you two have the same last name." Mal said as Ben nodded.
"Come on, I'll go introduce you."
"No, no. It's okay-"
"No, come on. You haven't met everybody yet." Ben said, grabbing Mal's hand and walking her over to Adam and the two other ladies.
When Adam noticed Ben walking towards them with Mal, he smiled at them.
"Hey, Ben. What's wrong?" He asked his son as the girl with black hair took the file in Adam's hands and put it in her purse.
"I just wanted to introduce Mal to Nicole and Aunt Belle." Ben said making Mal snap her head towards Ben and to the lady with brown hair and brown eyes she caught making out with Adam.
"I-I'm sorry. Aunt?!"
"Yeah...She's my aunt." Ben chuckled as he pointed to the older lady who was standing on the right of Adam. Belle looked at Mal and gave a small smile.
"They're siblings?!" Mal exclaimed as they all shook their heads.
"No, no. They're best friends. We just call her our Aunt." The girl with black curly hair said as she smiled at Mal.
"Ohhhhh." Mal said before thinking in her head. "Friends with benefits."
"And this. Is my younger sister. Nicole Beast." Ben said, pointing to the girl with curly black hair. "Hello." Nicole smiled as Mal smiled back. Another boy came out of one of the offices and walked over to the group.
"Hey, Nick. I was wondering if you could call the food caterers tomorrow? We need to make sure the orders are correct." He said as Nicole hummed and nodded her head.
"And this is my younger brother...Brian." Ben said as Brian looked down at Mal and smiled.
"Hello."
"If they're both younger...Why do they look older than you?" Mal asked out loud making all of them except her laugh.
"Oh, honey. They get that all the time. These two just look that way. Plus, he has his father's looks which makes him look older. And she has her...Her mother's looks and acts like her father. Makes her seem older." Belle said as Adam nodded and Brian and his sister shrugged.
Mal giggled before saying, "So, is this like a family business or...?"
"Well, we have three younger sisters. One is studying music, she wants to become a singer. The second one is studying to become a doctor, and the third one is either studying music or studying engineering." Nicole explained as Mal nodded her head.
"She hasn't really made up her mind yet." Adam said as Belle nodded.
"She's only 16 so...She doesn't know what career path to take." Belle said as Mal smiled.
"Well, it is hard but, like a friend of mine always said, 'Always choose the path that makes you happy." "Wise friend you've got." Adam said as Mal shrugged.
"It was a very wise decision of me not to change the channel on the T.V. that day." Mal said making all of them laugh.
The group talked for a bit more before bidding each other good-bye and heading home. Belle got a ride with Adam while Ben, Nicole, and Brian took Nicole's car. Mal was picked up by her friends.
"So...How was your first day?" Mal's best friend, Evie asked.
"It was great! They were all very nice." She replied as Evie and their two other friends, Jay and Carlos nodded their heads.
"That's good! Wanna grab some dinner before we head home?" Evie asked as everyone shrugged.
"Granny's it is." Evie said as she plugged her phone into the AUX and played her music. Jay, Evie, and Carlos were jamming to the music while Mal leaned her head back and closed her eyes, thinking about the great, friendly day she had.
