Chapter 4
Leah finished her beer chatting with the guys. Spike learned a little more about her brother. It seemed like if Leah was mentioned in the conversation Spike wanted to know more about her. Angel noticed how Spike was looking at her learning that he had developed feelings for her. To him, it was like looking at a love sick puppy. Angel hasn't seen Spike show any interested in any woman since Buffy.
Derek learned more about Angel and his relationship with Buffy. It surprised him that he was capable of having a relationship with a human. Then again, he figured why couldn't they.
"So who was your first love Spike?" Derek asked him.
"Her name was Drusilla, she is the one who made me. No matter how much she hurt me I kept coming back. I don't know why I did. I realize now that she didn't love me like I loved her. Then I fell in love with Buffy but she didn't love me back," Spike said remembering.
"They sound like real winners. Maybe you were settling for the wrong women," Leah said listening.
"Maybe I was and was too stubborn to admit it," he sipped his beer.
"Maybe, you shouldn't have been so stubborn." Spike smiled at that a little.
Leah's eyes met Spike's for a moment not paying attention to how she was sitting on her chair almost falling off of it. Spike caught her grabbing her waist keeping her from falling. "One beer and you're not even drunk," Derek chuckled.
"Careful," Spike looked at her.
"Thanks," Leah said sitting right in her chair. Her chair was so close to Spike his arm was still around her waist. He knew he loved her more than anything. Leah always respected him and always had his back. They had a good friendship towards one another. She was there for him towards the end of his break he took. Leah knew enough about him the last two years they have known each other.
Someone who Angel knew came up to their table. Leah got up allowing the guy to sit down. Spike sat her on his lap as Angel moved down to her chair.
"Sorry, didn't mean to just use you as a chair," Leah turned to look at Spike thinking she just sat on him.
"I don't mind love."
Her arm went around his neck as she sat on his lap. "Thanks sweetheart," Leah kissed his cheek not thinking much of it. To Spike it felt like it something more to him than just a friendly kiss.
Derek noticed Leah was flirting with even if she didn't know she was doing it. "Hey can I crash at your place?" Derek asked her.
"Take the spare room," Leah looked at her brother.
She started getting tired. "Tired?" Spike asked her.
"Let's get out of here. Night guys," Leah said getting up.
Spike left with her making sure she would get home safely. He came in as she shut the door behind her. "At least your home safe." Spike said walking in with her.
He started to turn to leave. "Spike."
Her voice stopped him having him turn around to look at her. Leah approached him getting closer. "What is it?"
"This may sound weird but having you here with me helped me get the best sleep. I feel safe with you. Will you stay?" She looked at him hopeful.
"Just one thing, you kissed me." Spike took a step closer.
"On the cheek so." Leah didn't seem phased by it.
"We need to figure out where we stand." It was a discussion that Spike wanted to bring up.
"I don't know Spike we've been friends for quite a while. I don't want to mess that up." He took her hand in his kissing it. Leah noticed he was very charming and proper. It was obvious to her that he was from another time.
"I am a good man despite what I am." He continued holding her hands.
Leah sighed knowing Spike wasn't going to let this go until they discussed this. "I have feelings for you too," Leah admitted.
Spike appreciated hearing that from her as he looked into her eyes. His hand rubbed along her face as he slowly leaned in kissing her lips. The kiss lasted a while until she pulled back. "You mean a lot to me and I will do anything to protect you from harms way," Spike said meaning every word.
"You're sweet and I can definitely tell that you act like you're from another time. There's no guy like you," Leah kissed his cheek. She grabbed her pajamas and went into the bathroom.
Spike made himself comfortable on the bed. He appreciated that she at least gave him a chance. This time he knew he could be the man Buffy knew he could be. The only difference was it wasn't with her and he was ok with that.
Leah came out of the bathroom in a t-shirt and a pair of shorts getting under the covers. Spike laid with her while she turned to face him. "What made you decide you wanted to give this a chance?" Spike wondered.
"I knew if I didn't answer you'd drive me nuts and I want to see how this goes. It's been a long time since I tried being with anyone. My last relationship was in college and I dated guys here and there but didn't have an actual relationship with any of them. It was more I wanted to be friends and they wanted more," Leah explained.
"None of them interested you?"
"I didn't sleep around if that's what you mean. Many tried but I didn't give in I was married to my job."
Spike kind of chuckled at that. They talked a little longer until she fell asleep. Spike stayed with her the whole night holding her and feeling thankful that she agreed to be with him. He wanted this to build into a serious committed relationship. Being alone started to weigh in on him after a while, the feeling of having someone to care about him and love him back was something he missed. Spike wanted someone he could hold in his arms and be intimate with.
The morning approached and Leah was still asleep next to him. She eventually woke up to him looking down at her. "Sleep well?"
"Yes I did with you here," she yawned. Spike wasn't sure why she slept well with him there. He figured maybe it was because she was lonely and missed having someone there with her.
"Being here made me realize how much I miss having someone."
"I know what you mean. I just feel safe with you." Leah looked into his eyes. "I just noticed you have blue eyes. I bet the women threw themselves at you." She changed the subject.
"Maybe, but not for the right reasons pet." He kissed her hand.
Leah thought he was so incredible handsome. The way his hair was somewhat messy from lying down and his blue eyes were pretty to her. She remembered her last boyfriend wasn't as attractive as Spike. It was looking at a model out of a magazine. "You are so hot," Leah said letting her mind wander not realizing what she said looking at him. Then she snapped in reality feeling half embarrassed.
Spike laughed a little. "You think I'm hot?"
"What? I mean you cute or um no," Leah said feeling embarrassed knowing it was too late.
"Nice to know coming from a woman as beautiful as you," Spike kissed the top of her head.
Spike could tell she felt a little embarrassed but he didn't seem to mind at all. Hearing it from the one he was in love with made him feel good about his self. He would do anything to make sure this relationship would work. All he wanted was to make her happy and be loved in return.
Leah leaned in kissing his lips, she felt his arms pull her closer as he kept kissing her. He pulled back out of breath looking at her. "I should get ready," Leah looked said holding him. Spike got off her allowing her to do so. She thought he was a great kisser literally taking her breath away.
Spike met her at Angel's office seeing her coming off the elevator. She looked beautiful with her hair down in a pair of nice jeans and nice shirt. He noticed her gun and badge on her belt.
Leah sat down reading through paperwork that was given to her. Spike approached her sitting in the chair next to her. "Missed me that much?" Leah joked still reading over her paperwork.
"I always miss you when I'm not with you," Spike flirted.
"Aren't you a hopeless romantic?" She looked at him.
"Only to you love." Spike took her hand kissing it. He was really trying hard even though she said she would try this out. Spike knew he would do anything for her if she asked him. Leah wasn't the demanding type like Dru was.
"Ok Spike, I think I've known you long enough to ask you, what do you want?" Leah started questioning his actions.
He sighed at that knowing she was right. They've known each other a little over a couple of years. "I want to be with you and I want this to be more than just seeing how things go. I've had my time to cope with my past and deal with things. I'm wanting this to go to the next level," he answered her.
This sounded like what many guys had said to her in the past but she ended up breaking it off with them. Leah had plenty of time to worry about her job. Spike wasn't like all the other guys that she met or went on dates with. "Spike, I've heard this line before," Leah sighed.
"The only bloody difference is I mean it," he argued a little with her.
"Never said you didn't."
"I know there are strong feelings love by the way you kissed me," Spike reminded her.
"You're not going to let this go are you?" Leah asked him half annoyed.
Spike gave her a serious look letting her know that he was serious. "Will this get you off my back if you let me think about this?" Leah questioned him.
"Not exactly but it will help." Her hand touched his cheek. Spike took her hand kissing it. His charm didn't make it easy for her. Something about him just made her crazy about him.
"Tonight, I got to investigate some abandoned old place a bunch of teenagers been using it for frat parties. Last weekend a couple of them ended up dead," Leah changed the subject.
"There are plenty of vampires around. We already know who killed them," Spike said having a good idea.
"There were bite marks on the victims necks," Leah put the pictures in front of him.
Spike looked at the pictures able to easily figure it out. Leah passed the information on to Angel. He decided to come with them.
"Is there something going on between you two?" Angel said able to sense something.
"No, why?" Spike played it cool.
It wasn't easy to fool Angel something in his gut told him differently. For now he would leave it alone.
Leah finished out her normal day. Since they had her assigned there she didn't do a whole lot. She stayed helping Angel close the place for the evening.
"Angel need any help?" Leah asked him.
"I'm good thanks, it's almost dark we will be able to get out of here soon." He looked at his watch.
"So is it true about you with your soul? I heard that you can't have true happiness or you can turn bad?" Leah asked him.
"Spike told you didn't he?"
"Yeah, he also mentioned you were in love with Buffy and things didn't work out." Leah explained.
"He did? That was a long time ago and it was for the best," Angel assured her.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to say anything," Leah looked at him.
"I appreciate it."
"Well can I not blame her for getting hurt, I mean you are hot," Leah complimented.
Angel laughed a little at that. "Thanks, I haven't had a woman say that to me in a long time."
"I can remember when I chased a guy on top os a building once. I thought he was going to kill himself by jumping to the next building but he actually made it. Then he thought I had a bungee cord that help me make it over when I jumped. I guess being half vampire has it's advantages," Leah shrugged.
"It's interesting you only have traits and not anything else," Angel said a little surprised.
"Yep no fangs or anything just your skill and ability genetics can be weird like that."
"So what's going on with Spike, he seems to be following you around like a lost dog," Angel asked curiously.
"I've known him for a couple of years now. He helped me chase down a couple of criminals only to scare the hell out of them. We been friends and drinking buddies ever since. Now that I agreed to see how this relationship works, Spike wants more than that. I told him I'd think about it. I don't think he is going to let this go." Angel knew Spike was the type to drag things out.
"He's a lot better off now than before," Angel added.
"How so?"
"He has a soul and has become a better person as much as I hate to admit it." Angel knew he was right but was still getting use to the face that Spike has changed.
