2nd chapter, baby! this is normally where I lose my motivation to continue writing lol, so let's hope that doesn't happen…I mean I did write this way faster than intended!

"For you." A deep voice startled Hailey from her daydream, although she relaxed as an arm draped over her shoulder from behind. Her husband's handsome face popped up on her left, and a coffee all black with 1 spoonful of sugar, was shoved gently into her hands.

Hailey smiled at the kind gesture, although she shook her head. "Thanks, but I'm trying to limit the coffee, remember? We're trying to have a kid, and I'm not gonna stump our chances."

"Oh, right. I'm sorry, it's a habit." Jay nestled his face into Hailey's neck and sighed. So far they had been only trying for a couple months, whenever they could take a moment for themselves. They had taken a break from all the sex a few weeks ago, when both Hailey and Jay came down with a summer flu, but had started back up again as of late. However the couple wasn't in a rush because they still wanted to enjoy their time alone together while it lasted.

Just then, Adam lumbered into the break room and noticed the coffee Hailey had placed on the table. "You drinking that?" He asked.

Hailey shook her head. "Nope, all yours." She was about to remind Adam to add milk, but he took a sip first anyways.

"Bleh!" Adam turned his head and spat the liquid into the sink.

"Oops, you should add milk to that." Both Hailey and Jay couldn't help letting out a laugh.

"You're crazy for taking it straight up," replied Adam. He added some milk from the fridge and then took a careful sip. "Ahh, that's much better. Kim's trying to avoid coffee while breastfeeding, so I'm doing my husband-ly duty by not having it in the house. Work is the only place I can drink free with no judgments."

Jay rolled his eyes. "You make it sound like you've got an alcohol problem." He sipped his own coffee and moved so that he was leaning back against the countertop.

"I also have that," Adam chuckled good-naturedly. "So are you gonna tell me Hailey why you've ditched coffee all of a sudden? I know you love coffee more than most of us. It's a need at this point."

Hailey glanced at Jay. They hadn't really told their friends that they were trying for a baby in case they didn't get pregnant for a while. Hailey had mentioned in the girl's group chat that she and Jay had talked about kids in the future, yet didn't specify how soon that future was. It wasn't that they didn't trust Adam, but if word got out to Voight, then Hailey would be treated differently right on the spot. And as someone who loved her job, Hailey did not want anything other than what she had now; chasing after bad guys, throwing punches where necessary, and helping keep Chicago in good hands.

Luckily, Kevin saved Hailey and Jay for having to formulate a response. He poked his head into the breakroom and said, "Voight wants us in the bullpen. Case to discuss." Taking the distraction as a way out, Hailey slipped past Kevin and beelined for her desk and Jay did the same thing.

Voight stood by Kim's absent desk and surveyed his squad. "I've just been notified that our suspects have been spotted ten blocks from here. I want everyone to grab a vest and get into position. Remember, these guys have four stolen automatic machine weapons which makes them more dangerous if provoked. Task is to go in, arrest both guys and then get the hell out. Leave the guns in case there's other prints. Got it?" Typical Voight didn't wait for an answer. "Alright let's move."

Jay quickly knocked back the rest of his coffee, then grabbed his coat. Hailey tossed him the keys to his truck, and the squad headed for the car park. It had been previously decided that Ruzek would ride with Atwater, leaving Voight going solo until a temporary replacement came in for Kim.

Once they were safely in the truck and away from pesky listeners—aka Adam and Kevin—Hailey flipped the heat on and turned to Jay. "So are we telling our friends about the make-a-baby situation, or not?"

Jay followed Voight towards the location but was listening to his wife. "It's up to you. I assume you've told the girls already, so I'm surprised at least Adam doesn't know."

"I mentioned we wanted kids, not when," corrected Hailey. "I'm fine with them knowing, I just think it's a bit early you know? It took Stella and Kelly months to get pregnant." Their friends over at the fire station were expecting their first child, a boy, in just over four months. Both Stella and Kim were excited because their kids would be the same age and automatic playmates.

"Yeah, that's fair." Jay stopped talking as he cut the engine across the street from the building that the suspects were apparently camping out in. "Why don't we just keep it to ourselves, until we have news to share? Like you said, it's still early and I'm happy to keep you all to myself for the time being." He leaned over for a quick kiss, then opened the door. Hailey smiled and nodded, then followed her husband to the sidewalk on the other side of the street.

"Halstead, Upton, take the front. Ruzek, cover the back and Atwater, keep an eye on the alley. I'll be here in case they think they're smartasses and double out the front." The squad nodded, and obeyed Voight's instructions. Jay held the battering ram and Hailey pointed her gun at the front door.

"Ready?" Jay asked.

Hailey nodded. "Yep." Jay swung the battering ram and the front door flew open. "Chicago PD! Put your hands up where I can see them!" Shouted Hailey as she stepped inside.

Jay held up his gun, placing one hand on Hailey's shoulder as he covered her. "Clear," he announced, scanning the living room while Hailey kept her eyes trained on the hall.

Just then, a loud bang shot through the air. Hailey ducked and moved behind the cabinet, as Jay shot towards the noise. "Shots fired at the police," Jay spoke into his radio.

More gunshots rang out. Jay made eye contact with his wife, then jerked his head towards the living room cut through. "Go around, I'll watch your back."

"Gotcha." Hailey slowly crept around the wall, spotting their subject with one of the stolen guns, shooting from plain sight in the kitchen. "Hands where I can see them!" Hailey shouted, at the same time that Adam burst in the back door. They both pointed their guns directly at the shooter's face.

The shooter thought for a split second about turning his fire on Hailey, but then thought better of it. He threw his hands up in the air and tossed the gun onto the kitchen table. "You're under arrest," said Hailey, even though it was blatantly obvious.

"Where's the other guy?" Jay asked, pushing the guy back a bit.

"I don't know what you're talking about," sneered the attacker.

"Naw, don't play dumb with us. Where is he? Your accomplice," supplied Adam, coming up to stand beside Jay. Hailey kept her gun raised, as she creeped towards the door next to the stove.

"Ahhhh!" The door banged open, causing Hailey to stumble back and trip on her own feet as she struggled to gain her footing. Jay ran to catch her, but Hailey slipped and ended up falling back on her butt. "I'm good," she reassured the guys. "Grab the other shooter!"

Adam took off in the direction he had run, which was out the back door. Hopefully Kevin would corner him in the alley. With one hand on the man in handcuffs, Jay offered his other out to help Hailey up. She reached his arm, but gasped in pain as her wrist flexed.

"Hailey, are you okay?" Jay asked, concerned.

Hailey nodded, and stood up herself while brushing her pants off with her uninjured hand. "I landed on my left wrist when I was thrown backwards. I'll be fine, it's just tender." She tried to roll it once, but gritted her teeth in pain instead.

Voight burst through the front door and saw Hailey holding her wrist, while Jay had the shooter. "Good catch guys. Atwater nabbed the runner in the alley." He turned to Hailey. "Head over to Med to get that checked out."

"Yes Sarge," Hailey wasn't about to argue with her boss. Jay, definitely, but Sergeant Voight was a different level.

Jay let Voight take the offender, and then gently looked at Hailey's wrist. It was starting to swell but it didn't look broken. "You probably sprained it. I'll drive you to Med."

Hailey nodded. "Thanks." She got back into the truck after seeing that the second culprit was indeed in custody. The other squad members agreed to take them back to the station so that Jay could drive Hailey to the hospital.

Once they got there, Hailey opened the door without difficulty. "Want me to come in and wait for you?" Jay offered, stalling from heading back to the station.

"I'll be fine. You go back and get started on the paperwork. My left hand hurts, so writing is off the table for a while." Winking, Hailey blew Jay a kiss as she headed through the emergency room doors.

At the desk, Natalie Manning was looking at some files. She glanced up when Hailey walked in and rushed over to say hello. "Hey Hailey, are you okay?" She asked.

"Fine, just got thrown back by a door opening too fast on a call a short while ago. Landed on my left wrist, which is why it's starting to get swollen," explained Hailey. She showed Natalie her wrist to confirm what she had said.

"Right. Well I'll get you set up in a room and we can get that looked at." Hailey followed the doctor to a room and sat on the bed. Carefully removing her jacket, Hailey pushed up the sleeves of her plaid shirt and hoped that whatever needed to be done could be quick, so that she could get back to work. She joked to her husband about not wanting to do paperwork, but it was better than being at the hospital. Hospitals reminded her of bad things, things that Hailey had been trying to forget. Jay had helped her a lot yet she still passed the room her dad had been in a few years ago, and felt strong flashbacks from her childhood. When she got home today, she'd probably cheat and have a tiny bit of whiskey to reward herself from staying put together during her visit today. Shoot, I should've told Jay to stay, Hailey thought to herself.

Natalie came back a couple minutes later with a clipboard and a pen. "Just some forms for you to fill out. I understand you hurt the hand you write with, so no problem if you need me to help you. I'm gonna do an x-ray but I just have to ask, are you pregnant?"

"No," Hailey answered quickly, used to the questions at the hospital. Then she did a double take. She hadn't been admitted since before she and Jay had started trying for a baby, and while it was very unlikely she had gotten pregnant so fast, there was a small possibility. "Actually, I might be. I don't know for sure." Hailey blushed, even though there was nothing that embarrassing going on. She and Jay were just having sex as per usual, just without protection. Kim and Adam had to do that to conceive Isla, Stella and Kelly did it for way longer too. It was just life.

Natalie smiled kindly. "That's okay. We'll take the precautions as if you are. Are you and Jay trying for a baby?"

"Only recently," replied Hailey as she returned the smile.

"Well from what Will says, I think Jay will make a great dad. And you'll be an awesome mom."

"Thanks."

The pair lapsed into silence as Natalie waited for Hailey to finish the forms, then gave them a once-over when she was done. "Okay, let's get you an x-ray. I'll have you wear the lead apron just in case."

"Sure thing." The scans took barely any time, and soon Hailey's results were ready to look at.

Natalie pointed at Hailey's wrist on the developed film. "It's just sprained, there's no fracture or break. I'll wrap it up in gauze and you'll be good in a few days. Remember to ice it every night, and try not to use it while it heals. Call me if the pain becomes sharp."

Hailey nodded, and gathered up her coat. "Thank you so much," she said, being careful of her wrist as she got off the bed.

"And keep me updated on the baby, huh?" Natalie winked before leaving the room, which made Hailey's heart pound a little bit. There was no chance that she could be pregnant, right? It had barely been eight weeks since they started trying, minus the ten day hiatus for the stomach bug. So really just over six weeks. The possibility was tiny, but the hint of doubt made Hailey curious enough to walk a block over and buy a pregnancy test from the drug store. She had zero intention of taking it at work, mostly because Adam would be all over it, so she slipped the small box into her coat and called Jay to come pick her up from the hospital so they could go back to the police station and get work done.

It wasn't until they got home that night that Hailey remembered what she had bought. Guess that whiskey was off the table tonight, if the test gave her the results she didn't expect. "Hey, I'm gonna grab a shower," Hailey told Jay. Normally he would join her but they picked up takeout on the way home and Hailey knew Jay would want to eat it hot.

"Okay," replied Jay. "I can redress your wrist afterwards, if you need me to."

"Thanks." Hailey smiled to herself because her husband was so dang caring. He was her everything and she was so thankful she got to do work and life with him. In the bathroom, Hailey flipped on the shower water so that Jay wouldn't get suspicious, then grabbed a cup from the medicine cabinet and quickly peed into it. Most women had to read the box to figure out what to do, but Hailey was an expert. She had been with Kim the night she found out she was pregnant with Isla, and then again for half of Stella's negative results. She knew how a test worked like the back of her hand, which helped in situations like this.

After washing her hands, Hailey dipped the test into the cup, then put the cap on and put it on the counter to wait. While it was "figuring itself out", Hailey did get an actual shower to rinse the day's arrest of her. Steam billowed as she shut off the tap and secured a towel under her armpits, wrapping her hair in another. It was almost time to look at the test. Hailey's heart pounded because it was a nerve-wracking experience, regardless of the fact Hailey thought it was going to be a no.

Another thirty seconds passed and the anticipation was too much. Hailey turned over the test and glanced down at the pink lines. One was very obvious, the one that made sure the test actually worked. The second one was faint, but definitely there. In her shock, Hailey dropped the test on the bathroom floor and it clattered loudly against the tile. Jay called out from the living room, asking if she was okay but Hailey couldn't answer him. She was too stunned to say anything because the test just told her the best and scariest news of her life; she was pregnant.
