Chapter 13
Inuyasha and his bodyguard Bankotsu searched throughout the building of the Daily News for the reporter who published the photo of him on the front paper. The girl at the front desk told him he would be on the twentieth floor.
"What'd she say he looked like again?" Inuyasha asked, scoping the floor as they got out of the elevator.
"She said he was very skinny, pale, black framed glasses. Spikey black hair and has a twitch on his left eye?" he looked at Inuyasha who intently surveyed their surroundings with pure determination. He looked over a row of cubicles and didn't see anyone that fit the description.
"This is so fuckin' annoying." Inuyasha bowed his head and rubbed between his eyes.
"Sir, look.." the bodyguard shook his shoulder and pointed to a guy coming out of the elevator. A guy that fit the exact description. He was walking proudly, Starbucks coffee in his hand, flashing a flirty grin and a woman beside him. They made their way toward him with haste. The guy noticed and with a girly shriek, he turned around and bolted for the staircase.
"Get back here!" Inuyasha growled out as he ran after him. His bodyguard ran the other way and tackled him onto the ground.
"Don't hit me..." the reporter cried. " I didn't do anything"
"Then why run?" Inuyasha picked him up by the collar and brought him into an empty room. Everyone on the floor went back to their work and minded their business. " So, Hae-gi, got your bucks worth on that article about me?" Inuyasha gritted his teeth.
" Um...no?" Hae-gi said, and his eye twitched repeatedly. Of course, he made plenty. It was the hit of the year in the celebrity world.
"Ok, Hae-gi, listen carefully. You see this man here? He is my bodyguard, Bankotsu. He's not in a very good mood today since I dragged him out early this morning to look for you. He's in the mood for blood, if you know what I mean…" Inuyasha bluffed. " I want a name..."
"I don't know what you mean." he uttered in a squeaky tone.
"Hae-gi, I'm not in a very good mood today..." Inuyasha said as Bankotsu picked up Hae-gi and swung him toward the other side of the wall. He raised a massive fist and the reporter raised his hands.
" Ok, ok! I -I don't know a name...but I can tell you where I got it..." Hae-gi mumbled quickly before Bankotsu could fling him again.
Bankotsu looked at Inuyasha and let him go once he nodded.
" F-f-follow me..." Hae-gi said leaving the room. They followed him to the cubicle where he gave Inuyasha the picture of the guy with the hat and drag queens.
"Who do you think this impersonator is?" Bankotsu looked over Inuyasha's shoulder to glance at the picture.
Inuyasha frowned at it and looked up. " I dunno..." he frowned at Hae-gi. " Where's the rest of the pictures? Any negatives?" he shoved him.
" N-n-no... that's it. That's all the girls gave me." Hae-gi stammered and looked around embarrassedly at his co-workers.
"Girls, what girls?" Inuyasha asked and exchanged glances with Bankotsu.
Hae-gi grabbed a piece of paper with shaky hands and scribbled down the place.
A half an hour later, Inuyasha and Bankotsu showed up at the pharmacy Hae-gi told them about. They entered the photo department where they were greeted by two girls.
"Oh-my-god..." Kani muttered. " Tika..." she squealed.
"What?" Tika sighed as she blew a bubble on her gum and turned around. " Oh-my-god.."
" Um..yeah...hi.." Inuyasha rolled his eyes at Bankotsu.
"We didn't mean to do it." Kani cried.
"Kani!" Tika scolded as she shoved her and then tittered." hehe, don't listen to her, she's not fully there, you know?"
Inuyasha kept his face stern as he continued to stare at them, his temper rising.
"Um...is there something we can...help you with?" Tika said as she darted her eyes from Inuyasha to Bankotsu.
"I think you know why we are here." Inuyasha gritted.
"Ok, we didn't do anything wrong, all we did was give the guy a picture so he can give us money...which we found out later, we were shorted." Tika scoffed.
"Where'd you get it from?" Inuyasha interrogated as he held the picture in his hand.
"Uhhh..this girl?" Kani muttered.
"Girl gotta name?" Inuyasha grew impatient."What about the negatives?"
"Um.. we gave her the negatives and...we don't know remember her name." said Kani.
"Try remembering..." Inuyasha growled.
"Ok ok...perhaps we have some sort of record…like chill, ok? Gosh, and to think we thought you were cool." Tika went into a cabinet as she searched through receipts.
"Sir..." Bankotsu took the picture out from Inuyasha's hands. " Doesn't the impersonator look oddly familiar?" he said pointing to the face. "It sort of looks like..."
"Yeah...I noticed.." Inuyasha muttered as he tapped his foot. " but it can't be. Come on, to even think about it is a waste of time. He wouldn't do something like that."
"Yeah...you're right." he chuckled. " It is stupid now that you mention it."
"Ok, " Tika came back. " We don't have any credit card records, I remember, we actually gave her the pictures for free."
"The name?" Inuyasha clapped a palm over his forehead.
"Um.." Tika went through the receipts. " Ka-gome?" she pronounced.
Inuyasha's eyes widened as he dropped his head. " I-I'm sorry, w-w-what did you say?" A crease appeared between his eyebrows.
"Kagome. That's all she wrote on the package. There is no last name, well, she initialized it, it looks like the letter H. It could be a B, not sure...handwriting is kind of sloppy..." she turned the paper around to focus.
"Um...thanks..." Inuyasha said as he walked away in a daze.
Bankotsu followed him perplexedly and tilted his head. " Sir? Is something the matter?"
"Everything is..." Inuyasha blinked then stifled a grin. "everything is okay."
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Sesshomaru reached his arm out to feel Kagome's soft waist and frowned when his hand felt nothing but space. His eyes peeled open as he lifted his head and looked around the room for her when he saw a note beside the nightstand.
Went to run a few errands. Someone is getting into a habit of waking up late. Cheer up, people still hate you. Just kidding, xoxo
-Your annoying roommate
Sesshomaru sighed and glanced at the clock. It was almost 10am. It was unlike him to sleep in but she did keep him up pretty late last night. He arched his back as he stretched in bed and pulled the covers off of him. He slipped into his boxers and made his way to the bathroom to wash up before making his espresso. A slight smirk formed on his face when he saw that Kagome had set his cup in front of the machine, the espresso had already been brewed. Kirara was sleeping on the couch when he strode over with his cup, grabbing his tablet to check his emails. He pushed the cat to the side of his spot and sat down. Kirara groaned, her tail puffing at him before she sprung off the couch onto the armchair beside him. Kagome walked in holding a few grocery bags in one hand and the mail in the other.
"You just woke up?" she cocked a brow.
"Yes." he sipped his espresso and shot her a partial grin before he looked back down at his tablet.
"You bum." She teased, setting the bags down by the kitchen table. "I was pretty productive today. Met with Koga for some breakfast, got some groceries. He's really happy you hired him, by the way." She made her way to the couch and sat beside him. Their legs were brushing against each others and she was expecting he'd scoot away but instead he absent mindedly rested his palm on her inner thigh as he read his emails. She studied him with a smile.
"Hm." He replied, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Oh yeah, they are coming over in an hour." she got up from the couch and went to the kitchen. Sesshomaru looked at her with a puzzled look and followed her into the kitchen.
"Who's they?"
"The gang. Koga, Miroku, Sango and Hojo, Oh, and Koga is bringing Ayame." she waggled her brows.
Sesshomaru curled his lip. He didn't care too much for her friends. Koga was tolerable, sometimes. But Miroku talked too much, Hojo would just hyperventilate and Sango glared at him every chance she got as if it wasn't clear how much she detested him.
"I'll probably head to the office and just do some work; give you guys some alone time." he murmured as he nosily searched through the grocery bags. A flash of disappointment crossed his face when Kagome pulled out a blue box from the grocery bag. She waved the Oreos in front of him and fluttered her lashes.
"Looking for these?"
Sesshomaru snorted as he grabbed it "No.." he said as he packed it on the shelf.
"Right…" Kagome rifled through the mail, ripping the spam letters and tossing them into the garbage. "I swear, if it is not bills, it's junk."
Sesshomaru regarded her quietly, taking the last few sips of his coffee as she put the groceries away. She wore a tight white t-shirt and low-cut jeans that complimented her body. Her hair was starting to grow out, cascading in waves down the center of her back. She opened the refrigerator, squatted to put vegetables into the lower drawer and he snuck a peek of her neon pink thong. He'd been so engrossed in admiring her that he didn't realize she looked over her shoulder at him. He blinked and turned around to put his espresso cup in the dishwasher.
"Saw something you liked?" she teased as she stood up and edged toward him.
"What are you talking about?" he said, feigning obliviousness.
"I caught you staring at the goods." she rubbed her lips together, flashing a sultry gaze between his lips and eyes. "liked what you saw?"
Sesshomaru held back a grin and shrugged. "I was just…looking at the…shelf. We need…milk."
Kagome smirked. "You weren't looking at the shelf. I know you want me...but I'm sorry, Sir, you cannot have me. One, you are so not my type and two, I don't date the boss." She reached over the sink, teasing him as she arched her backside at him. He fell for it and watched her in a trance.
He shook his head playfully and scoffed. "What makes you think I want you?"
Kagome peered down and he followed his gaze to his erection. It really sucked being a guy. He shifted his posture as he crossed his arms.
"I'm not your type, hm? Then what is your type?" his gaze trailed up and down her body. If she didn't stop teasing him, he was about to throw her over the kitchen table. Her friends were coming in an hour, there was enough time, he mused.
"My type, hm? Well…I like a guy who's determined and funny and, you know what?"
"Mmhm.." he swallowed, her pouty bottom lip was enticing him.
"There is this guy, at the office, he's really cute and—"
Sesshomaru frowned. He wasn't liking this charade anymore. "Oh?"
"Yeah, he's real handsome, dresses nice, he can be an ass sometimes, but you know, when you look passed that...he can be ok. He owns his own company…" she paused and he cracked a partial grin. "his name starts with an S and ends with esshomaru."
Sesshomaru felt a chuckle escape him as he turned around and clasped a palm over his mouth.
Kagome gasped. "Are you blushing?"
"No." he said. "It is probably hot in here."
"Uh huh…" she turned around to make herself another coffee. "Hey, I have a question to ask."
Sesshomaru gave her a curious glance then nodded for her to continue.
" Yesterday, Shurran wanted to have dinner with you, and she said like 'old times', what did she mean by that?" Kagome looked suspiciously at him. "Did you and Shurran have a fling?"
Sesshomaru's face stiffened. "A fling? No."
"Well...what did she mean by that then?" Kagome continued to stare at him and he didn't like the look she was giving him.
"We had lunch a few times to discuss proposals. There were times other colleagues had joined us."
"That's it?" she asked.
" Yes, why?" he cocked his head to the side.
"Well, it just seemed like there was more to it." Kagome shrugged. There was a furrow in her brow as if she was thinking about something.
"What are you insinuating?" he stared at her.
"Nothing." She looked at him.
"Yes, you are." Sesshomaru stepped closer to her with a scowl. "I know what you are implying."
"and what is that?" Kagome scoffed.
"That Shurran and I had some sort of love affair and might I mention how insulting it is for you to expect me to not call the obvious."
"I didn't mean to sound like I was accusing such thing. I was simply curious as to what business you two had having dinner together. You were with the company for about two years and within those two years, you were still with Kikyo...why would you have dinner with some other woman? Would you be okay if your girlfriend has dinner with some man?"
"Like I said, it was just business." He shook his head disbelievingly. "Do me a favor, don't accuse me or look at me in any way you would with your philandering ex."
Kagome gasped as she was taken aback by his comment. "What is your problem? I was just asking a question."
"Well then, don't beat around the bush and just ask the question directly. Did Shurran and I have an affair whilst I was with Kikyo, that is what you wanted to know, wasn't it?"
Kagome raised both of her hands and chuckled. "Look, forget I asked."
Sesshomaru gripped her arms to stop her from leaving the kitchen.
"I've never, in my whole relationship with Kikyo, from beginning to end, cheated on her." he clarified through gritted teeth. He didn't have anything to prove yet the thought that Kagome would even fathom that he was anything like his brother. It didn't sit well.
"I wasn't trying to-I didn't mean for it to come out like it did..." she muttered. She didn't know why she became interrogative towards the subject. Whatever happened between him and Kikyo was between them. Why was she getting mad? Sesshomaru untightened his grasp around her wrist and went to shower.
Kagome berated herself as she organized the kitchen and living room for her guests. Why was everything with Sesshomaru so rocky? Questions always turned into fights, they were constantly on their defenses, and it was always after they had an amazing intimate moment together. Way to kill the mood, Kagome. That quickie you were hoping for is now out of the question. When Sesshomaru finished showering, he averted his gaze as he went into his room to change. She pouted; he was mad at her. As she made her way toward his room, a knock sounded at the door.
Before she could answer it, Koga entered the house followed by Ayame, Miroku, Hojo and Sango. Another person came behind Sango, a guy that Kagome never met before.
"Kagome, you really have to stop leaving the door open." Koga snorted as he turned toward the hallway where Sesshomaru came out of. "Hey, Boss." Koga saluted as he walked to the couch and pulled Ayame to follow him.
"Koga..." Sesshomaru greeted as he quickly flashed a frustrated look at Kagome.
"Oh, Sesshomaru, Kagome, this is Ayame." Koga pointed to his girlfriend. He clutched his chest and looked over at her with a lovestruck gaze. She was very pretty, Kagome thought. The opposite of Koga. Her auburn hair was tamed under a pearly headband, her designer bag sat on top of her expensive skirt.
"Hello, Ayame." said Sesshomaru as he looked to see an unfamiliar man beside Sango.
"Hi" Kagome greeted, then gave a puzzled look at Sango and her guest. "Sango, who's this?" Kagome looked at the guy. He was somewhat cute, brown tousled hair, green eyes but when he smiled, his front teeth looked like one big tooth.
"This is the guy I told you about before, from my job, Muso" Sango smirked as she rested her hand on his shoulder and glanced at Sesshomaru. The temperature in the room dropped a degree or two and everyone sensed a shift in tension. Koga met Kagome's eyes and shook his head, trying to telepathically let her know that it was not his idea to bring him.
"Hi, Kagome." said Muso as he stepped closer to grab Kagome's hand. He bowed and kissed it and Kagome could see the muscles in Sesshomaru's chin become taut. "Sango's told me so much about you. She said you were beautiful but my god..." he chuckled.
"Um…thanks." Kagome tittered as she snuck looks at Sesshomaru. He stared at Muso for a moment then flicked a quick gaze at her before he turned around and grabbed his car keys.
"Excuse me..." Kagome told everyone as she followed Sesshomaru toward the front door. "Where are you going?"
"I have a few things I need to do." He said, and she could tell he was lying.
"Don't go. Stay and hang out, please?"
"I really rather not." He darted his gaze between her, Muso and Sango.
"Please." She pleaded.
Sesshomaru took a deep breath then dropped his car keys beside a shelf next to the door. "Only for a little while."
'Only for a little while' turned into 'a long while'. Everyone stayed long into the evening. Sesshomaru watched as Muso continued to flirt with Kagome and it was making him uncomfortable. A few times he had grabbed Kagome's hand and he nearly lunged across to grab him by the neck but he controlled himself. The cheesy lines he spewed made him roll his eyes so much, it was any wonder how it didn't roll off his face. As the night progressed, he was more at ease noticing Kagome didn't share the same interest in him. She and Koga spent most of the time making fun of him unbeknownst to him. Ayame didn't say much. She just stayed beside Koga and watched everyone.
It was getting chilly and Kagome had gone to her room to get a sweater. As she slipped into it, Sango came in and crossed her arms.
"Ok, what's the deal, I bring this guy to your house and you're not even interested." Sango frowned.
"What do you expect me to be like, jumping all over him and kissing him? I just met him and I told you I'm not ready to date. Why won't you listen?"
"Right, is that the reason or is it something else?" Sango squinted. "Or someone else? Like, I don't know, your roommate perhaps?"
"Come on, Sango."
"Something is going on between you two, isn't it?"
Kagome faltered for a moment. Sango wouldn't understand. She didn't like Sesshomaru for the simple fact that he was Inuyasha's brother and nothing else.
"No…" Kagome muttered. "Nothing is going on."
"Ok, so just go on this one date with Muso. You'll like him, Kagome, really. He is so sweet."
"Uhm...Sango...I really don-"
"Come on, just one date, Kagome." Sango asked.
"but Sango, I.."
Kagome was interrupted with Koga coming in.
"You guys suck, why are you leaving me out there with everyone. That guy Muso is getting on my nerves, he talks too damn much about his grandmother...it's kind of creepy." Koga said as he shoved Kagome for no reason.
Sango ignored him as she shook her head. "Kagome, think about it.."
"Think about what?" Koga said as he sat on Kagome's bed and layed down with his arms behind his head.
"She wants me to go out on a date with Tooth." Kagome joked and Koga started to cackle.
"Tooth?" Sango asked, looking perplexedly between them both.
"Yeah, dude, you didn't see his teeth? The two fronts ones look like one big one." Koga laughed. Kagome tried not to laugh, especially since Sango was getting really annoyed by it but she couldn't help it.
"You guys are so fucked up." Sango sighed.
"Oh, Sango, I'm sorry but look, I really don't like him."
"One date, is all I'm asking." Sango continued.
"Sango, " Koga snapped. " Why are you trying to force her to go out with someone she doesn't like? "
"because, she needs to start dating again, it's been five months now."
"Thanks for keeping a tab on my love life." Kagome muttered.
"Well, someone has to since you're not." Sango protested.
"Well, maybe she's getting hers already with a certain someone." Koga winked which caused Kagome to open her eyes wide and hit him.
"What's he talking about?" Sango glowered. "Kagome, were you lying to me about you and Sesshomaru?"
" No, Koga's just being stupid..." Kagome scowled at him." Yeah.."
Koga nodded. "I'm just being stupid."
Another knock sounded at the door and Miroku opened it.
"Can you guys come back out, it's awkwardly quiet out there and Sesshomaru is just staring at me..." Miroku said in a small voice.
Koga got up from the bed and pushed Kagome.
"Come on, let's get out of here..."he whispered in her ear. She knew what he meant. Sango was getting suspicious. It wasn't that she wanted to lie to her but right now, she and Sesshomaru were figuring things out between them. It wasn't even official so there wasn't really anything to tell her.
Kagome and Koga met everyone in the kitchen. They were all sitting down at the table for coffee. Kagome sat between Sesshomaru and Sango. Before Sango could sit down, she stood up and looked at Muso.
"Muso, can you switch seats with me, I'd like to sit there if you don't mind." she smirked.
"Sure, I don't mind." Muso obliged and winked at Kagome.
Muso sat next to Kagome and slid closer to her causing Kagome to slide her chair away. Sesshomaru just watched them. No one said anything for a little while. Hojo was wheezing every now and then and Miroku was blowing bubbles into his cup. Koga and Kagome were sneaking glances at each other, trying to liven the mood by joking around. It couldn't be helped, whenever she was with Koga, they became immature kids.
Kagome reached her arm from underneath the table and found Sesshomaru's knee and began to caress it discreetly. Sesshomaru went rigid in his seat, looking incredulously at her as she kept a neutral gaze around the table. He bowed his head uncomfortably as he moved his knee away from her. What was she doing? In front of people? Kagome frowned when he shook her hand off of his knee and smiled when she went for it again. This time, she went a bit further up and started massaging his upper thigh. He cleared his throat as he set his coffee down and shot her a scowl. Kagome covered the side of her face and licked her lips at him in a tease.
Koga bit back a grin as he noticed what she was doing. Muso was sitting across from Kagome and he decided to taunt him by taking his sneaker off and rub his thigh with his foot to make it seem like Kagome was doing it. It was hard not to laugh and keep a straight face so that no one would know what he was up to. Muso started to blush, sensing a foot on his thigh and he quickly looked over at Kagome with a devilish grin. He decided to play along and massage her foot making Koga choke back a laugh. He couldn't believe the fucker grabbed his foot and started to massage it. It tickled so much as he felt himself turning red from trying not to laugh. He looked over at Kagome hoping she would notice it and get a kick out of it but she was too busy teasing Sesshomaru.
"Why is everyone so damn quiet?" Sango broke the silence which caused Sesshomaru to snap out of it.
"Excuse us for a moment." he grabbed Kagome by the arm and pulled her out of the kitchen. They walked down the hall and entered her room and closed the door.
Muso's smile faded when the foot that was on his lap which he was massaging, was still there. But Kagome had left, so whose foot was…He slowly looked underneath the table and saw a black sock with a hole on the big toe wiggling at him. He looked up in disgust and looked towards Koga who shot him a wink. Muso threw the foot off of him and rubbed his hands on his thighs with a grimace.
"Is something wrong, Muso?" Sango asked.
"Uh...no..." he panted.
"You look a little pale, are you going to be sick?" Sango said, her tone concerned
"You can say that..." he said before bolting for the bathroom.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Sesshomaru pressed Kagome against the door, his arms gripping the sides of her arm. He gently shook her and shook his head.
"What are you doing?" he spat.
"Nothing...why?" she giggled.
"Are you mad, why were you being inappropriate in front of company?" he continued.
"Oh please...I was just playing, no one knew anything..." Kagome sighed. "Something told me you enjoyed it, sorry if I got the wrong impression." she stared down at his groin, an impression was still there where his bulge was forming.
"Don't do that. It isn't proper." He huffed.
Why was he so angry, she thought. "Jeez, it was just a joke, sorry!" Kagome pointed out. " Why do you have to be so serious all the time, god..." Kagome rolled her eyes. "I won't touch you next time, ok?"
Sesshomaru mulled over her comment. Why do you have to be so serious all the time? Did she not like that about him? "There are certain things you just don't do. I am sorry for being too serious for you."
"What is wrong with you? You've been pissy all day with me!" she snorted as she removed her sweater. It could have been their heated discussion making the room hot, she wasn't too sure. "I was just trying to have some fun with you."
"What fun?" he locked his gaze with her. "Your friend Sango doesn't like me and she brings a guy to my house to flirt with you isn't my idea of fun. Forgive me."
Kagome laughed. "Your house?"
"Yes, I pay to live here too." he glared daggers at her.
"It was a joke. I thought it was cute. I just never thought you'd think of this apartment as 'your house', that's all."
Sesshomaru walked over to her bed and plopped down. He ran his fingers through his hair and looked toward the window.
Kagome flailed her arms at him. "Ok, so Sango is trying to hook me up. I told you this already. I don't think she hates you, I think she's just being overprotective because you're Inuyasha's brother. Besides, what do you care if she's trying to hook me up anyway? It's not like…anything is happening between us, right? Like you said, it isn't right because of who we dated and the fact that you're my boss."
Sesshomaru snapped a gaze at her then looked away. "Right. So, feel free to date him if that's what you want."
"and you'll be alright with that?" she asked, slowly walking toward him until she was inches from him. "for me to go on a date with him?"
Sesshomaru swallowed, keeping his gaze on the floor. "If that is what you want."
"What do you want?"
He didn't reply and she expelled a frustrated sigh.
"Fine, I'll go to dinner with him tonight then. Have a few drinks and see where it goes." She turned around and Sesshomaru snatched her hand to stop her. She looked over her shoulder at him skeptically. "Is there a problem? You seemed to be ok with that."
His knee shook as he met her gaze for a second then looked back down at the floor. "I'm not."
"Why not?"
He pinched his lips to keep himself from grinding his teeth as he struggled to meet her gaze. His mouth wouldn't budge for a reply.
"I…" he tried and that was all he managed to say before she turned toward him and edged her body between his legs, his face just a fraction from her stomach. He ran his hands up her thigh and pressed his lips against her stomach.
"Tell me…" she breathed as she mounted his lap. "Why aren't you ok with that?"
She stared into his eyes and he stubbornly shrugged, still looking away from her but his hands roamed up her back. He felt a surging tide of warmth as she leaned into him, wrapping her arms around his neck. He took a deep breath in, angry with himself that he wasn't able to tell her that the reason he didn't want her to go on a date with that guy, or anyone for that matter because he couldn't stand the idea of anyone else touching her. Instead, he lay his mouth on hers and kissed her with a rapacious intensity. No, he wanted no one else to feel these lips. They were his. She panted heavily as she kissed him with the same voraciousness, and she thrusted her hips forward onto his pelvis sending a throbbing ache between his legs. They lost themselves in their kiss and for a moment, they forgot they had guests as he fell back onto her bed with her on top of him. He slipped his hand under her jeans to cup her butt, the other hand kneading her breast when the door flew open.
"Kagome, we're gonna go, Muso isn't feeling ...very...well." Sango's mouth went agape as Kagome and Sesshomaru snapped their necks at her. They were so in shock that they just stood there. Sesshomaru casually slipped his hand out of Kagome's jeans. What made it worse was Miroku, Hojo, and Muso walked in behind her back of her. They mimicked Sango's shocked expression as Koga's lips formed an O when he strode in to see what everyone was doing.
Sango pursed her lips as she shook her head repeatedly. "Wow, um, ok. So, we are going to leave. Clearly you guys are…busy. We will let ourselves out." She said, seeing Miroku, Hojo and Muso staying where they were. "Guys, let's go."
Miroku stared off for a moment at the two and then snapped out of it. "Huh? Oh…right, I'm coming."
Muso dropped his head as he followed them out. Hojo forced a smile as he closed the door.
"That was...very...embarrassing." Kagome said, unwrapping her legs from his as she fixed her shirt.
"Yes…it was." He said and looked at his watch. He'd gotten sidetracked for the day. Kikyo was working at the club tonight, he was sure, and he needed answers. "I have to go do something. I should be back before 9pm."
"You too? Where are you going?"
"I…have some files to look over that I left at the office." He said, feeling a stab of guilt for lying but he couldn't bring himself to tell her about Kikyo. It wasn't as if his intentions were ignoble. He was, after all, doing this for her.
"Okay..." she said as she followed him toward the front door. " I might step out too. There's this shirt I want to return."
He grabbed his wallet and regarded her with severity. "Make sure your phone is on."
Kagome nodded curtly as he put on his leather jacket. Why didn't he tell her the reason he didn't want her to go on a date? It was starting to become frustrating wondering where they stood. Were they dating or not? Was it too soon after their breakup to be dating? Was it a bad idea to that they were hooking up? It felt so natural. Everything about them felt like a relationship. Before he turned to leave, he noticed her stuck in her thoughts. Stroking his thumb across her cheek, he searched her eyes before melting into her with a fervent kiss that left her breathless once he pulled away.
"I'll see you later."
"Mm." was all she could say as she collected herself from the dizzy state he left her in. No, she thought. This couldn't be casual. Something was happening between them. Something so frighteningly real. Her heart raced every time they touched, she yearned for him, hungered for his lips, his touch, looked forward to seeing him after only parting for a short while. She didn't want to admit it to herself but any fool could see she was falling hard for him and though he wasn't good at showing it, or acted nonchalant about everything, something told her he felt the same way.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Sesshomaru parked in front of Velvet Dreams, a club Kikyo bartended at on the weekends. There was a long line outside that wrapped around the block but Sesshomaru confidently sauntered toward the entrance. A bouncer recognized him and unlinked the red rope for him.
"Lord Sesshomaru, haven't seen you in a minute." The bouncer greeted. "Looking for Kiki? She's on the rooftop."
"Thank you, Ryu."
People on the line groaned as Sesshomaru entered the club and ascended a ramp that lead to a set of elevators. He pressed for the rooftop when he got in and gazed at the screen as the elevator rose. Once it came to squealing stop, the doors opened and his hearing was engulfed by a heavy bass, and a rainbow of lights crossed around the room as he scanned for Kikyo. He spotted her right away, wearing a provocative top and leather shorts. It was honestly a wonder how he ever dated her. She was giggling with an old man as the old man pulled her toward his lap, crumbling a hundred-dollar bill into her waistband. She kissed him on the cheek and rounded the bar to tend to others. The club was dark, but he could see the color wash from her face when she noticed him and she was already pale to begin with.
"I apologize to disrupt you at work but we need to talk now."
Kikyo suddenly grew modest as she wrapped an arm over her midriff, biting her lip as she hid her legs behind the bar.
"What are you doing here?"
"I'd thought I'd pay you a visit to see how you're doing."
"Quit the act, Sesshomaru." Kikyo hissed.
"You know me so well, don't you? " he smirked. "I've come to check in on the status with your proposition to Naruto."
"What about it? How do you know about it anyway?" Kikyo studied him.
"Let's not worry about how I know." he dismissed.
"Something's different about you. You look great..." she smiled. "but you always look great"
"I wish I could say the same." he did a quick once over at her outfit.
She scoffed. "Still mad at me for what happened? You still think it's my fault?" she said.
"Does it look like I care?" he sighed. " I came specifically to find out about Naruto, is all. I could care less on how you are faring."
"I guess you're not different. Still the cold-hearted bastard."
"You're breaking my heart. Once again, I ask, what about Naruto?"
"Go fuck yourself." Kikyo gritted as she tried to walk back inside but Sesshomaru grabbed her arm.
"Just tell me what I want to know and I will leave right away."
"Why is this important to you? I'm sure he isn't threatening you unless he's threatening someone you...know." Kikyo's eyes rounded. "Oh my god, of course. You're here because of Kagome, aren't you?"
Sesshomaru looked away from her and did a quick scan of the bar. Patrons were scowling at him for taking up her attention.
"Yeah, it makes sense. They attacked her and that got your attention. Jeez, you have it bad for her, don't you? You always did."
"I will not say it again, Kikyo." Sesshomaru warned.
A sob tore through Kikyo's chest. "No, my proposition isn't settled. I still owe him and I will owe him for a long time."
"I will wire you the money to pay your debts." He said.
"I would say thank you but you're not doing it for me." she sniffed. "You really never cared for me, did you. It was always her. Why? Why waste my time if you never had feelings for me? Instead of being a sick pervert lusting over my sister."
"Watch it." He gritted.
"Watch what?" she laughed. "You don't even see it, do you? You're obsessed with her. Damn it, Sesshomaru, open your eyes! You've been lying to yourself for so long, you can't even see the truth if it's right in front of you!" she stormed off, wiping her eyes as she ran into the employee's lounge.
Sesshomaru let out a deep sigh as he placed a cigarette between his lips and lit it.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Sango had called Kagome for the fiftieth time in the last hour. She couldn't avoid her for so long. Kagome returned her top at the clothing boutique and stopped for froyo on the way back home before giving in and answering Sango's call.
"Ok, before you bite my head off—"
"You are such a slut bitch-ho bag!" Sango shouted on the other line.
"Alright then. Now that you got that out of the way—"
"Damn it, Kagome. Are you really that fuckin' stupid? Sesshomaru? And you kept it a secret! Are you kidding me? What's wrong with you? What's happened to you?
"Sango, if you'll just let me—"
"I bring a nice guy over for you and then you decide to fuck your ex's brother while we are there!" she screeched.
"Ok, we weren't…I mean, we were fooling around and got carried away but—"
Kagome had to pull the phone away. At this point, Sango was speaking gibberish at the way she lashed out on the other line. She sounded possessed.
"Sango, I seriously didn't mean for that to-"
"How long has this been going on? Why, Kagome, why are you doing this? Why do you torture yourself?"
"Sango, I'm not torturing myself with anything. Sesshomaru and I—"
"Sesshomaru and I? Now it's 'Sesshomaru and I'? I cannot believe this! Muso is completely heartbroken about this! I'll tell you one thing, don't fuckin come crying to me when he fuckin' cheats on your ass like his brother!" and with that, Kagome was left with the dial tone.
"Ok…" Kagome murmured to herself as she turned down the block toward her house. She didn't see Sesshomaru's car and he said he would be back by 9pm, where was he?
Her phone rang again and she figured it was Sango calling to apologize but it wasn't. Her heart sunk when she saw Inuyasha's name on the screen.
Shit, Kagome thought. What does he want? Oh yeah, he wanted to meet this week. That didn't seem like a good idea, she thought. Especially after she told Sesshomaru she wouldn't go see him. She picked it up, hoping he would get the hint that she didn't want to see him.
"Yeah?" she answered.
" Either you meet me somewhere, Kagome or I'm comin' to your damn house!" Inuyasha said in a voice so threatening, her fingers trembled over the steering wheel.
"Excuse me?" she said, forcing her tone to sound unaffected but she pictured a showdown between him and Sesshomaru if he were to pop up at her house.
"You heard me, we need to talk, now!"
"Inuyasha, it's almost 9pm. Can't it—"
"Meet me at the coffee shop in twenty minutes, Kagome or I swear—"
"Alright fine, I'll see you there." Kagome sighed. Sesshomaru wasn't home yet anyway. She could spare twenty minutes to meet him at the coffee shop so her dreadful ex didn't show up at the house.
