Chapter 14
Koga looked around the room and noticed that Sara's presence got the attention of the elders. It was no secret to the community that Sara flashed her goods at Sesshomaru in Italy. Once again, I'm always saving their asses!
Sesshomaru collected himself and walked over to Sara. Averting the eyes of everyone in the room, including Kagome's. He stopped in front of Sara and waited for an explanation. After a few seconds of awkward silence, he mustered enough composure to speak.
"What are you doing here?" he said low enough for only her to hear.
"Sir…I know this was a bad idea, but I really wanted to make up for my bad behavior in the last few weeks and with the twins' birthday—"
"My employees are never invited to such private affairs."
Koga interrupted their conversation and deliberately spoke loud enough for those around to eavesdrop.
"My bad, Sesshomaru." Koga said, looking at Sara. "I invited her as my date. We've been talking for a bit."
Sara made a questionable face but Koga urged her through pleading eyes to follow suit.
After hesitation, she met eyes with Sesshomaru. "That's right. He asked me the other night and I…I told him that I would come…uh…for a little while, since I got your daughters gifts."
Sesshomaru called bullshit right away. But he could see Koga was trying to help. If anything, he was grateful because he wasn't sure how he would pass off having his secretary join his personal festivities.
Kagome met his eyes for a brief moment to express her disappointment and turned her back on him to join a conversation she most likely had no interest in.
One of the elders Luciana walked over to Sesshomaru and expressed her gratitude for being invited.
"Lord Sesshomaru, your daughters are quite lovely. Samara is wise beyond her years."
"Yes, she takes after her mother." He jested.
"I do see a lot of similarities." She agreed. "I congratulate you on handling the chair over at the DDC whilst following your duties as leader of the clans. I am amazed you still have time for your personal life."
"It's an obstacle but I do my best." He said, getting uncomfortable with the direction of their conversation.
"I heard about Naraku Onigumo. My condolences, I know you both were friends for a long time."
"Yes." Sesshomaru cleared his throat. They were quiet for a moment and he knew she wanted to ask him something.
Luciana studied him quietly. "I had the pleasure of having an interesting chat with Miss Kimora."
Sesshomaru pretended to be impervious. But Kimora was quite the chatterbox. He hoped she didn't say something she shouldn't have.
"Oh?"
"Yes. I asked her what she wished for her birthday and you know what she answered? Oh, God, here we go.
Sesshomaru raised his brows in acknowledgement.
"For my daddy to come back and live with us."
Sesshomaru partially grinned.
"Lady Luciana, as you know, I travel a lot."
"Yes, I'm aware." Luciana probed him with her bright cyan eyes. "But I also took notice that you haven't been near your wife since we arrived. You both can't even hold a gaze for longer than a few seconds."
Sesshomaru pressed his lips tightly. Normally, he'd tell someone off for being so invasive but his father stressed that winning over the elders increased their chance on perpetuating their status on the throne. There was a small possible chance, that despite not having a son, he could persuade them to allow his daughters to lead one day. But there were series of tests they'd have to pass and one last unanimous approval by the elders.
"We had a small disagreement. I said things I shouldn't have and I'm waiting to reconcile our differences tonight."
Luciana smiled. "I love your honesty, Lord Sesshomaru. Everyone always puts up this pretense that marriage is perfect. No husband and wife always meets eye to eye on everything." She rested her hand on his shoulder. "I do wish you the best. Dealing with a woman scorned is much more challenging than battling the devil himself."
He and Luciana shared a private laugh and before she could walk away, she turned to him.
"Lord Sesshomaru, about Miss Kimora."
"Yes?"
"I would advise you and Lady Kagome to pay more mind to her. She exhibits a gift."
"A gift?"
"Yes," Luciana seemed lost in her thoughts. "I found out the other day, a dear friend of mine passed in a very tragic way. I haven't told anyone yet."
"My condolences, my lady, but what does this have to do with my daughter?"
"Well, she knew. I was trying to mask my sadness and she walked over to me, rubbed my hand and said she was sorry for my loss. She didn't say what it was but…I got this feeling that she knew."
Sesshomaru leered incredulously at her and glimpsed at his daughter. Lady Luciana smiled at him.
"She's special, Lord Sesshomaru. Heed my words. I've heard through the rumor mill that you have no intentions of having another child with your wife because you fear she won't survive giving birth. But I've watched your daughters grow and they are very strong little girls. If I am right about Kimora, it does give you leverage on convincing the council to let them lead. I mean, with a gift like that, why not? It's a new era anyway."
Sesshomaru bowed his head and scanned the room.
"She has my vote." Lady Luciana winked and walked away.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
The band played a nice piece of Mozart's Turkish March. Koga dragged Sara into the dance floor and began to lead.
"What are you doing?" Sara whispered.
"No, what are you doing?" Koga said, through clenched teeth. "I am so sick of counseling Sesshomaru's psychotic secretaries who can't take a hint. Look around you, what in your deluded mind believes you, his secretary, can come uninvited to his home, which he shares with his wife? Especially, after everyone knows what you did? Bearing your lady parts to a married man? Do you not even remotely find this action disrespectful? Not even a little shameful?" Koga twisted her body around and dipped her. He pulled her back into a tight embrace and they twirled along to the melody.
Sara rolled her eyes. "I wasn't thinking about anything. I was just-"
"Seriously?" he shook her lightly. "Look at what you are wearing. You're practically screaming to be her. I give you props; I think you may be the most psychotic yet."
"Stop calling me that." She growled into his ears. "You don't know me."
"I really gave you the benefit of the doubt when I caught you cyber-stalking them. Please allow me to save you from further embarrassment. Sesshomaru does not, and will not ever have any feelings for you."
"I think you're the delusional one." Sara laughed. "He barely talks to his wife. He lost interest in her. He keeps himself busy and regardless of what you believe, I saw the way he looked at me in Germany. We…we had a moment."
"Oh, dear God." Koga sighed as the music switched to something slower. "If only I had a dollar for every time one of his secretaries said that. You know who was great? Lana. But she quit."
Yeah, because she was in love with Sesshomaru, Sara thought. Don't fall for him, she remembered Lana's warning.
"Whatever." Sara frowned.
"Listen. Those two are my best friends and they belong with each other, no matter what kind of crap you heard or saw, it's not going to happen. People keep coming into the picture thinking they will break them apart and they're just wasting their time. I mean, open your eyes. Really, look carefully and watch."
Sara bowed her head and looked to the side. She watched Sesshomaru for a while, he was speaking to a group of people on one side of the room. But his eyes were always on Kagome.
"I know you see it." Koga said. "You see it, don't you?"
Sara shook her head. She gritted her teeth, fighting angry tears as she met Koga's piercing blue eyes.
"Does that look like a man that's leaving his wife? He loves her. He will always love her. He has zero feelings for you. I hate being mean but I need you to understand this. You are causing problems for this family by coming here. There are really important people in this room, and a lot of politics involved that are crucial and yet beneficial to Sesshomaru's status, and you will ruin it with your idiotic schoolgirl crush. I'm going to tell you what to do next and I really hope you do what I say."
Sara bit her lip as she absorbed Koga's words. She kept peering back at Sesshomaru and she could see the look of contempt on his face when he met her eyes. He did not want her there. People were looking at her, whispering and laughing. Other clan members joined them on the dance floor. She flinched when Koga nuzzled her neck and whispered in her ear.
"You're going to kiss me and then you will flirt with me for the next hour. You will then decide to leave on your own accord, you will say something like, 'I have to get up early for the gym.' You will leave and you won't be returning to work."
"How dare you!" Sara tried to pull away.
"If you care for him, you won't make a scene." Koga warned.
Sara stopped right away and allowed Koga to spin her around the dance floor.
"Trust me, judging by Sesshomaru's expression when he saw you, you're fired anyway. I'm saving you the trip to work."
"Why are you doing this to me? Is it because I'm a human?" Sara's voice trembled.
Koga scoffed. "You know Kagome's human too, right? I told you, I am not trying to be mean. But I am trying to protect my family."
"And what if I don't do what you say?"
Koga's face went dark. "You ruin my nieces' birthday; I will make it a mission of mine to make your life a living hell. I promise."
They were quiet and danced some more. The music finally stopped and everyone was called for dinner. After much dismay, Sara did what Koga asked of her for the rest of the night.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Inutaisho gave a lovely speech about the twins during dinner. After the cake was cut, the kids were taken to the entertainment room to watch Frozen, for the millionth time in their lives. All of the grownups stayed in the great room mingling. A few drunks were escorted to leave.
Sasuke stood by the banquet table while a few clan members surrounded him in conversation. His eyes, though, followed Kagome wherever she went. He kept inconspicuous by adding generic comments to the conversation, especially since he felt Sesshomaru boring a hole through his head with the daggers he glared.
He sighed, grabbing a glass of red wine and made his way toward Kagome who was sitting on the couch with Yura, Isabella and Inuyasha. Sesshomaru attempted to confront him again and was stopped by his father.
"Don't." his father whispered. "The elders are watching your every move tonight. I need you to be calm."
"How can I remain calm when the man clearly has an agenda? It's insulting." Sesshomaru's nostrils flared.
Inutaisho nodded. "I trust Kagome will take care of it."
Sesshomaru sneered. "I'm sure she will."
Inutaisho sighed and planted a fake smile when they were approached by a couple of cat demonesses.
Yura nudged Kagome noticing Sasuke walking their way. Kagome cursed under her breath, her eyes darting between Sesshomaru and Sasuke.
Yura smirked. "I think we should let these two talk."
Isabella frowned. "I am very comfortable where I'm sitting."
"Feh, same…" Inuyasha nodded.
Kagome sighed. "Actually, I do need to talk to him privately, guys. If you don't mind."
Yura grinned, leaving them. Giving Isabella and Inuyasha a derisive look as they followed her.
"Sasuke…" Kagome chuckled nervously. "What's up?"
"I just thought I'd chat with my old friend. Everyone is boring and, well, you look very lovely, I wanted to say." He took a seat beside her and she inched away.
"Ah-ha…." Kagome fidgeted with her fingers. "Sasuke…we need to talk."
"About?"
"About us…hanging out."
"Okay?"
"We can't do it anymore."
"But we're not doing anything wrong."
"It makes Sesshomaru uncomfortable." Kagome added and Sasuke's face became tight.
"You shouldn't condone his insecurities, Kagome. He's away all the time. Now, he is here for the night and makes decisions for you? He'll be gone in a few hours, I assure you."
Kagome bit her lip. "He's not making me do anything, Sasuke. I just know that if it were the other way around, it would make me uncomfortable too."
"Kagome, you're not happy with him."
"Stop that, Sasuke." She whispered. Sesshomaru was on the other side of the room but she could swear he heard that. His father seemed to have a tight grip over his shoulder, perhaps holding him back.
Sasuke lowered his voice. "Kagome, I am not trying to break your marriage, I promise. I just know, that you are not happy right now and I am getting the strongest urge to make sure you don't stay that way. I am here, as a friend or…whatever you need. But don't put yourself through this. Don't stay with him because you're worried what people will think of you."
"Sasuke, I am not worried about that. Please listen to me. Whatever we had in the past, is in the past. I am not unhappy with him; I am unhappy with the situation. I am still very much in love with him."
Sasuke took a deep breath. "Okay, Kagome. Whatever you say. I won't interfere but I just want to make it clear, that if it were me, I would choose you over anything."
Kagome didn't say anything further. Sasuke walked away, bade farewell to everyone and went to get Arahim before he left. Yura came back, holding two glasses of champagne and handed one to Kagome.
"How did that go?" Yura smirked.
"Eh…"
Yura shrugged. "Well, there are plenty of fishes in the sea. If not him, I'm sure someone else will come along. Sesshomaru will just have to understand."
"I'm not going to be with anyone else, Yura."
"But you are still going through with the divorce, right?"
"Well, I don't know anymore."
"Kagome, don't do this to yourself again. He shows up once in a blue and confuses you. But he's going to leave again, I mean, what about that secretary of his coming here? Something must have definitely gone on between them for her to think she can just come here?"
"Yura!" Kagome growled. "Why would you say something like that?"
"I'm sorry." Yura looked away. "I think it's just time for you guys to part ways, is all. Too much drama and you need someone physically here. Just think about it, okay? I know what's right for you and it isn't Sesshomaru. I've known you guys since you were in college. Yeah, you guys were awesome together then, but in the last year, all you guys do is fight. You complain that you're lonely and it doesn't make sense to me why he has to live somewhere else and sleep in a bed other than the one you both share. You know what? It's just an opinion of mine. I gotta go, I'll see you at work tomorrow."
Kagome glowered at Yura as she walked away. Why were Sasuke and Yura so against her trying to save her marriage? Did they see something she didn't? Was she really in denial about her relationship?
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
The guests had all left. The butlers and maids had started on the cleanup while all sentry went to their posts. Kimora and Samara had already gone to bed and it was close to one in the morning. Kagome didn't see Sesshomaru for the rest of the night so she assumed he left without saying anything to her. Her stomach was in knots. She hated when they left things unresolved. She took a sip of jasmine tea and set it by the nightstand. She took a seat by the ledge of her window and looked out into the courtyard. When did everything get so complicated?
She felt an ache at her temples and massaged it with her index finger. Her door opened and she looked over her shoulder with caution. When she saw it was Sesshomaru, it didn't put her at ease. Her anxiety worsened. Oh no.
He closed the door behind him and they stared at each other for a moment. He dropped a few files on his desk by their balcony door, well, it used to be his desk. Now Kagome's case files were on it along with a few chocolate wrappings crumpled on top of it. She was confused, at first, and stood up from the ledge.
"What—"her voice was low and hoarse. "What are you doing?"
"Setting my files on my desk. What does it look like I'm doing?" He said, bitterly.
"I don't under- I mean, what are you doing here?"
"This is my house, isn't it? I want to sleep in my bed, is that a problem for you? Because if so, you're more than welcomed to leave."
Kagome lowered her head, unable to take his harsh remarks. She tied her satin robe as she made her way to the door. He quickly grabbed her arm.
"Wait." He sighed. "Don't go. I'm…sorry."
She kept her back to him, biting the insides of her cheek. Not being able to look him in the eyes, she tucked her chin into her chest. He pulled her toward the bed, he sat down, and rested his forehead on her stomach. His hands gripped her thighs and caressed its way up her back.
"I didn't mean to say what I did earlier. I was just…really upset seeing you so close with him"
"No." she said, sheepishly. "You were right to feel the way you did and to say the things you said. I was being a hypocrite keeping him in my company. I was trying to make you upset and it was…immature of me."
"Are you unhappy?" he said, and looked up at her. His amber eyes that looked right into her soul, studied her face. "with me?"
"You heard him, didn't you?" she tilted her head back. "You know, nothing happened between us, right?"
"You didn't answer my question."
"Not with you. Without you. I'm unhappy without you. I can't help feeling like you're at the edge of my fingertips slipping away. You say it's because of work but then I see what happened with your secretary and it's hard to believe-"
"She's done. I'm letting her go. I should have let her go that night but…I was more focused on what was happening at work. Being away from you so long and hearing you were around him all the time, it was taking a toll on me so I was drinking…a lot."
Kagome closed her eyes and he gently shook her.
"But I swear, nothing happened. I know it's hard to believe, especially with pictures like that, I'd find it hard to believe too."
Kagome felt warm in the face, it was most likely the combination of having his hands caress her skin and having a few glasses of champagne at the party. But this happened before Christmas. She stayed the night with him, they were intimate and then he disappeared for the month, without so much of a word from him. This made her tense and she broke from his grasp.
"So…now what?" She paced around their four poster bed. "You go back to living at the DDC estate until this all blows over, in who knows how long? We go back to the vicious cycle of not hearing from each other? You and I pretend everything is great while scandalous photos surface making us question each other's loyalty? I just can't do it, I can't. I'm sorry. I want nothing more than to be together but not under those circumstances anymore. I'm not trying to be unreasonable, it's just too hard on the girls. I don't want a part-time husband."
Sesshomaru sighed. "So you still want me to leave my position?"
"No." Kagome exhaled a deep breath. "You're good at what you do and your people need you."
"But I need you."
They were quiet and Sesshomaru stared down at the floor. Everything in his gut told him that as much as it hurt, he shouldn't move back home. But the fear of losing Kagome outweighed that. Who knew how long it would take for him to find out who was threatening him? Was it really fair to have Kagome wait until that happened, with no guarantee it ever would? To miss out on watching his daughters grow up? And as much false threats she's thrown at him in the last couple of years, he could see that she was struggling whether to follow up with her decision regardless of how she felt for him. He wanted to make the decision right there but being around her clouded his reasoning.
"It's getting late." He looked at the clock beside the nightstand. It was almost two in the morning. They both had to wake up early for work. "Let's get some sleep." He reached his hand out, beckoning her to come back to the bed.
She stared at his hand and frowned. "I don't-"
"I won't touch you, if that's what you're concerned about."
She blushed. Seeing him sit on their bed, still wearing his suit. She always loved the way he looked in suits. It reminded her of when he'd come home from work. He'd get undressed as she bombarded him with her rants from work. How they'd get into bed together, cuddle and sometimes Kimora and Samara would burst through the doors and jump on top of them ending in watching a really bad movie on Netflix. How she deeply yearned for days like that again.
"If it is really a problem. I won't sleep here." He got up and she blocked him from heading to the door.
"No. Please, I want you to stay."
He towered over her petite frame, fighting off the urge to kiss her. That's all he wanted to do since he got back, even when he was mad at her. It bothered him that he had to refrain himself from touching his own wife.
After getting undressed, they both got into bed. Out of habit, he was about to put his arm around her but stopped when he reminded himself not to. It was awkward to lay there with her and not be able to feel the warmth of her skin against his. He could tell she was awake by the way she breathed. His arms were behind his head as he stared up at the ceiling. He intermittently glanced at her backside, her hair draping to the side revealing her neck. After much tossing around, and seeing the clock turn three, he sighed.
"This is ridiculous." He muttered under his breath, and rolled over putting his arm around her stomach. He buried his nose into her neck, kissing her shoulder gently. His arousal inevitable.
"You said you weren't going to touch me." She moaned, feeling him grind up against her. His hands rubbed her thighs and slipped under her nightgown.
"I know." he said, nibbling on her shoulder. "I lied. Forgive me."
"We shouldn't keep doing this." She breathed hard. "I.."
"How am I supposed to not touch you after being away from you for so long. How can you resist?"
Kagome cupped his hand as it moved up her nightgown, his fingernails trailing up her stomach making her shiver with excitement. She mentally argued with herself.
No, don't do it. Don't fall for it, Kagome.
But he smells so good.
No, stop it. He just wants to pleasure you senseless so you think twice about leaving him.
But he's really good at it.
You should let him suffer and not give him any. He needs to be punished.
But I haven't had sex in a month. I'm punishing myself.
You're a whore.
But he's my husband!
Whatever, you're on your own.
She gasped when she felt his fingers pull down her underwear and caress her opening. She grinded her butt into his pelvis and he let out a moan into her ears. That broke whatever discipline she had left holding her back. She turned around, got on top of him and started rocking her hips against his. He pulled off her nightgown and she bit her lips, containing the satisfaction of his ravenous lust for her. He wanted her badly. Feeling the pulsating ache between her legs, she wanted him too.
Sensing hesitation from her, Sesshomaru flipped her over, pressed his body against hers and opened her mouth with his, their tongues colliding in synchrony. With one hand massaging her breast, he pulled his hardened member out of his pants and forced it into her. She let out a whimper that ended in a moan. Deprivation had caused him to be extra sensitive that with each thrust, he found himself nearing climax. He was amazed by the level of determination he had to hold back, allowing himself more time to please her. However, it seemed she was nearing climax herself. Their libidos weren't how it used to be but then again, they were having sex a lot more often than once every other month. Feeling her body jerk and letting out a loud moan, he released himself into her. He gripped the sheets, thrusting a few more times before he finished. They were left breathless in each other's arms.
After the sensation left her body, regret started to seep in. She tried to break away from him but he pulled her closer. Fighting with himself as his thoughts ran amok about what to do, he resigned. He wouldn't give any more power to those that are trying to break him. You're not happy with him, he overheard Sasuke say. Although she clarified that she was, it was definitely a matter of time before she really had enough. He could feel her struggling in his grasp to break free. He gnawed at the mark behind her neck, the mark he left her on their first intimate night together.
"Alright." He whispered into her ears, his hands rubbing her arms for comfort. "You win."
She stopped moving, stared out into the dark room, her pupils dilating as she absorbed his words. Her eyes darted side to side as she questioned if she heard correctly.
"I will not ever leave you again." He confirmed and her body relaxed in his arms. She looked toward the window, the full moon appeared between spindly branches of the willow tree out front and her eyes welled up in tears. But no longer were they tears of sadness. They were tears of joy.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
"Kimmy, Kimmy, Kimmy!" Samara shook her sister vehemently. "Wake up!"
"Sam, leave me alone." Kimora murmured through her pillow. She glanced at the clock. "It's six in the morning, you nutball, we have one more hour before we have to get ready for school."
Samara scowled when Kimora nudged her and threw the covers over her head.
"Kimora! Father is in the kitchen. He stayed over last night! Now's the perfect time to tell him!"
Kimora's eyes widened as she threw the covers off. "Daddy's still here?"
"Yes!" Samara squealed. "He and mother are drinking their espressos, they're holding hands, Kimora!"
"What?" Kimora grinned at first but then it faded as she sat up. "But…but he's probably not staying."
"Which is why," Samara pulled her sister off the bed. "We have to go and put our foot down and demand that he can never leave us again!"
"Okay!" Kimora giggled. "Let's do it!"
They both scurried out their room in their pajamas and shuffled down the stairs into the kitchen. They slid through the revolving door and stopped in front of Kagome and Sesshomaru, panting.
Kagome chuckled while she sipped her espresso. "Wha—you guys are up super early? What's going on?"
Samara and Kimora exchanged looks. Both urging the other to start but Samara scowled noticing her sister cowering. Kimora twirled a silver strand of hair in front of her face and shrugged.
"Father…" Samara cleared her throat. "We have a…proposition that needs immediate attention!"
"Is that so?" Sesshomaru flashed a partial grin at Kagome.
Samara shifted nervously and sought help from Kimora.
"Daddy, you can't leave!" Kimora blurted. "We…are a family and…family sticks together!"
Samara squinted at Kimora and faltered a nod.
"If you leave again…I'm…going to quit school!" Kimora added.
Samara gasped.
Kagome bit her lip from laughing and shot a stern look at Sesshomaru.
"She sounds very serious."
"Kimora," Sesshomaru started, his face expressionless but Kagome could see a hint of playfulness in his eyes. "Are you threatening your father with your education?"
"Um…" Kimora stepped back and Samara held her hand.
"Me too!" Samara forced out. "I will quit school! I will quit sparring and we will...run away and we will take mom with us and we won't ever speak to you again!"
Kagome watched Sesshomaru and lifted her brows at him. "Wow…"
Averting Kagome's teasing look, he clenched his teeth from smiling.
"Well, I can't have that, can I?"
"We mean it, father!" Samara glowered.
"Alright, alright." He played along. "My apologies. I won't ever leave again, I promise."
Kimora jumped on her mother, squealing and then lunged at her father wrapping her arms around his neck. She started rambling about nonsensical topics to him. Kagome turned to Samara and tilted her head.
"So you'd run away and take me with you?"
Samara blushed and lowered her head. "Of course, mother."
Kagome smiled and pulled Samara into her arms.
"I'm sorry for the things I've said." Samara whispered into her mother's ears.
"What things…" Kagome rubbed her fingers through her hair and kissed her cheek.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
They all had breakfast together the way they used to. Kimora and Samara filled their parents' ears with the drama at their school. Kagome complained about her coworker Carl. Sesshomaru didn't utter a word about his job and for good reason, but they all enjoyed each other's conversation. Nobody wanted to leave but duties called for them to go separate ways. The limo dropped the girls at school with their sentry and then dropped Kagome at work with Haji.
Sesshomaru left on his own in his company's custom bulletproof Audi A8. He headed back to the DDC headquarters, dreading to see Sara but for the sake of his marriage, she couldn't continue to be a problem. He had to fire her. When he arrived, Koga was sitting at Sara's desk reading a newspaper.
Sesshomaru lifted a questionable brow at him and scanned the office.
"Where is she?"
"Yeah…" Koga droned, setting the newspaper on the desk. "I…kind of fired her."
"You fired my secretary? On whose authority? You don't even work here."
"Stop acting like you're mad."
Sesshomaru sighed. Well, he did save him the headache.
"And you're here, why?"
Koga smiled. "I hired myself."
"Keep dreaming."
"Oh, come on? Please? Give me a shot. I can't just keep staying home collecting royalties for the rest of my life! I need to do something. And besides, you can't hire women anymore. You make them bat shit."
Sesshomaru nodded. He had a point. He walked away, Koga following behind him as they entered his office. Inutaisho was sitting in the chair.
"I'm not giving the chair back until-"
"Relax, father. I've only come to collect my tablet. I have an investigation to follow."
"You do?" Koga and Inutaisho said in unison.
"Can I come?" Koga asked.
"No."
"Sesshomaru, I had a meeting with the elders this morning. They were very pleased with the girls. Their training has definitely caught their attention. They really put Reishu and Rani in their place." Inutaisho snickered.
"Did Lady Luciana mention Kimora?"
"No?" Inutaisho shook his head. "What about her?"
"Oh, nothing." Sesshomaru added, searching his desk for his tablet.
"You should take Koga with you." His father said, and Koga nodded smugly.
"He'll only be in the way. Besides, he is my new secretary. You should probably do secretarial duties, like fetch me coffee." Sesshomaru grinned.
Koga frowned. "Hey, I'm not your bitch."
"You wanted the position, didn't you?" Sesshomaru found his tablet in the drawer and scanned his fingerprint to unlock it.
"You're in a good mood today." His father teased. "Did you stay over?"
Sesshomaru cleared his throat while they both probed him for answers. Not making any attempts to give them any, he opened his DDC database program and entered Dmitri's information. His sister didn't know anything of his whereabouts. He ran his info through the database and saw that Dmitri had last used his credit card at a hotel in the Upper East Side.
"So is that a yes?" Koga continued to pry. "Did you and Kagome talk?"
Sesshomaru still didn't answer and left the office.
Koga looked at Inutaisho.
"He totally got some."
Inutaisho chuckled. "Go with him, Koga. Please. He's stubborn to go places without sentry and I don't feel comfortable about it."
"You got it." Koga left to catch up with Sesshomaru.
