Hey, fairy tail fans, welcome back to friendship, family love, and the fairy tail. So today, we have another short fic for you, and it's one that I honestly should have done years ago but better late than never; what I mean by that you ask, asking you haven't skipped this opening block it's going to have to read to find out. But that's enough time spent on my pointless rambling. Now let's get into the story

title: unofficial brothers

Summary: a tale of the strange yet somehow sweet relationship between fairy tails, the first two dragon slayers, Natsu and Laxus.

relationship: Natsu and Laxus(sibling)

Makarov

"Your nothing but a glory hog"

"Oh yeah, well, your nothing but a loud-mouthed punk."

Makarov sighed as he looked at Natsu and Laxus argue. What were they arguing over, you ask? well, at this point, it was anyone's guess as they stormed off in different directions; Makarov felt a smile tug on his lips through a part of him never realized it, but the reason they seemed to always bud heads was that they were one in the same both dragon slayers though Laxus may be off artificial means they still had that kinship as Natsu would often say to Wendy when he thought no one was listing it never really dawned on him that they were the first two dragon slayers to come to fairy tail, it explained so much about their relationship, why Natsu seems so determined to fight him yet was completely trusting of Laxus, why when he betrayed them he refused to believe it because in a way they were brothers

"You know," Makarov said, as Laxus took a seat next to him, "you shouldn't antagonize the poor boy so much."

"He started, old man," Laxus started.

"Oh, yet you entertained it," Makarov laughed "you used just to shoot him with lighting to get him to leave you alone."

"I didn't feel like it," Laxus said "going on a job soon don't want to waste the magic power."

Makarov let out a small hum while Laxus was too stubborn to admit it. He could tell there was mutual respect between the two, one that, despite their interactions in the past, is very strong "so you're saying that Natsu is a challenge."

"don't put words in my mouth." Laxus said defensively only to receive a smirk from his grandfather, "that kid is nothing but trouble strong sure, but he still has a long way to" he took a glance where he was talking with his team, most likely about their next job

"If you say so, boy," Makarov laughed, "if you say so."

"What does that mean, geezer," Laxus asked, only to get another laugh from his grandfather "what," Laxus said, "the kid is too reckless."

"Whatever helps you sleep at night" Makarov laughed

"Whatever, I got a job to get ready for," Laxus said as he stood up

"Goodluck," Laxus said, "don't strain yourself too much," Makarov said as he watched his grandson leave though he didn't fail to notice the smile on his face

Erza

It was no secret around the guild that Erza took extra care when it came to Natsu and his dragon slayer-related stuff. However, before no one paid attention to all but one that is in the past, Laxus didn't fail to notice the small things that went on with Natsu how at times he seemed to get sensitive to sound, how he seemed to react to large crowds only to be dragged another far more empty part of the guild at the time the old he just passed this off why should he care about that weakling yet no matter how hard he tried the back of his mind sympathized with him it was the main reason he wore headphones helped keep the noise down so maybe it was time he showed the pyro is a little trick

the guild was loud again. Erza could see it. Natsu looked uncomfortable when he came in. He was reaching his limit. That much was true. She should have told him to stay home. Still, he was insistent she stopped; however, when Laxus went up to him 'what is he" she stopped when he placed a pair of headphones over the dragon slayer who looked up in shock, almost surprised that all the noise was gone, he smiled as Natsu laid his head down Erza smiled as Laxus sat next to him as Happy looked over his best friend offering him a fish

after everything had calmed down, Erza went up to Laxus. "I should thank you, Laxus," she said as she looked over Natsu's resting form. "I didn't know you knew about Natsu's condition."

"don't forget red," Laxus said. "I'm a dragon slayer too, ya know."

"Yes, I guess it easy to forget that fact," Erza laughed

"Yeah, well, I should get going," Laxus said, standing up to leave "you can take it from here."

"Yes," Erza said, "and don't worry, Natsu will be fine in a day or two," Erza said, "but I take it to you already know that" she gave him a knowing smile as Laxus turned away a tiny blush forming on cheeks.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Lexus said. "I just saw the kid was in pain and figured I show him how I deal with it and see if it works," he said, "and from the looks of it, it did, so looks like my work here is done," he said

"And Laxus," Erza said, getting the lighting dragon slayer's attention as he turned to see scarlet knight smiling at him.

"Just know that Natsu thanks you too," she gave him a wink, "and your secrets safe with me."

"whatever," Laxus said as he started to leave the guild though one could notice the smile that had formed on his sure he would never really admit to caring for the dragon slayer, not yet at the very least, but maybe he didn't need to tell anyone that he did in face care, cause well that all there is to it you care for others cause there all family at the end of the day

Wendy and Carla

When she had first met Laxus, she was a bit nervous she had heard about what happened how he was kicked from the guild, yet when he came back, everyone was relived a part of thought it was because they were about to die. Still, it was a slow process even after people seemed happy that he was back, even going as far as to beg master Makarov to reinstate him back in the guild. However, she could tell that he missed being a part of this crazy family that washer and, by extension, Carla's thoughts on the matter they didn't know him they weren't in fairy tail when everything went down, so not their problem.

He's a good guy," Erza had told him "He just has trouble saying what he wants."

"The guy is a powerhouse," Gray would tell them "But he has his own way of caring," he laughed, "just wants all of us to do better. gotta respect for them"

"I used to think he was the scariest thing in this guild," was Lucy's comment "even after the phantom stuff," she shook her head, "but know that I know him" Lucy looked away. "I can say that I understand why everyone in the guild looks up to him so much." she laughed. "I guess what I'm trying to say is you shouldn't judge every book by its cover."

but the one person that surprised them the most was Natsu

"I respect him."

Now upon their first meeting, it was clear that the pair had beef and a history. Wendy knew that Natsu was the one to stop him during the harvest festival Carla also knew that Natsu and Laxus had several fights over the years, all of which ended with Natsu losing, and when he returned, Natsu mentioned that he owes Laxus 'a but kicking.' so in the mind she expected it to be similar to Natsu and Gray, but you know less violent and not always on sight

but his words here shocked them "maybe it was a dragon slayer thing," Wendy thought to herself, having learned that she Natsu Gajeel Sting and Rogue were in a way raised together she started to compare their relationship to that of Natsu and Gajeel, they only fight because that there was of showing that they care

"Yeah, the guy is a hard ass, and if I'm being completely honest with you, kid, he can be a huge jerk" Natsu then let out a laugh, "but he knows that, and I'll give him some credit. He loves this family, maybe even more than I do. He'll die for anyone in this family, and he'll push you to be your best," Natsu laughed, "though thankfully he's getting better at showing it." he then gave her a serious look "you are never to tell him I said that" to which Wendy nodded

it was odd looking at them from the outside. You'd think they hated each other, but in their own weird way, they cared for each other, and that was something you would never know unless you were on the inside part of the family

"That or maybe it was a dragon slayer thing."

Lucy and the thunder legion

"I'm telling you that doesn't make sense."

"Yes, it does."

"no"

"yes"

"no"

"yes"

"It makes sense."

"No, it doesn't, idiot."

they had been having this argument for the past few hours when Laxus had come up to them "see; it looks nothing like that," Lucy screamed, featuring to Laxus "why can't you just admit you wrong" Lucy said, "it would be nothing new around here." she said looking away "so just admit I'm right like always" that was all it took to light a fire under Natsu eyes he wasn't backing down now as he started to double down as Lucy also not backing down as they began to argue forgetting that Laxus as in fact next to him

"Hey, what are you two doing," Laxus asked, confused behind him; the thunder legion watched before walking up to the pair. They seemed to explain the situation though Laxus had stopped caring at that point before he saw Freed and Bickslow in his face looking him over "what are you two doing" Laxus asked through gritted teeth, "what? Have we talked about personal space?"

"I have to agree with Lucy here," Freed said, going back over there

"This is stupid" was all Evergreen muttered

"Naw, I'm with Freed and Lucy on this one," Bickslow said, "there's no way that's true."

"Hey, it must be true even Freed agrees with me," Lucy said, "you know, one of the smartest guys in the guild," Lucy said, "and Bickslow."

"hey"

"Naw, you guys just don't know what you're talking," Natsu said

"You are just stubborn," Lucy said

"What the hell is going on," Laxus asked, only to be still ignored

"I'm telling you it's true," Natsu said

"Hey"

"And I'm telling you you're full of it," Lucy screamed

"Yo, I'm right here," Laxus said again, his anger slowly building up

"Your just mad cause you can't see," Natsu said again

"You take that back," Lucy screamed. "I have great eyesight, thank you very much."

Evergreen massaged her temples "this is extremely stupid," Evergreen said, throwing her arms in the air, "what does it matter."

"principle" everyone shouted.

"Okay, tell what the hell is going on," Laxus screamed as everyone went silent.

"it's your eyes," Lucy said, "this walking bottomless pit has declared that it's orange," Lucy screamed, "and me with common sense mind, you say that it's yellow."

"And I think this whole conversation we're having is stupid," Evergreen said, sitting down blowing her hair out of her face, "but don't mind me."

Laxus let out a defeated sigh "the kids right," he said, getting a shocked look from everyone "well, more of a yellowish-orange but mostly orange."

"Thank you," Natsu screamed.

"what" Lucy Freed and Bickslow screamed as they fainted as Natsu and Laxus gave each other a fist bump as a look of realization came over Evergreen.

"you two are the worst; you know that," she said. All she got was two big smiles from the dragon slayers as she shook her head.

"Well, I must admit," Evergreen said, "it was a little funny."

We need more Laxus and Natsu interactions. It would honestly be the hilarious friendship in fairy tail coming to a close second to the chaos that Natsu, Wendy, and Juvia will bring when they hang out, but that's not important.
