Authors Note: Hi! This is my first story, but I'm excited to finally have some time to try this out! I do not own anything, and this story does not currently have a Beta. I hope you all enjoy some nice slice of life Avengers antics! Please review and let me know what you think!
BEEP BEEP BEEP…BEEP BEEP BEEP…. BEEP BEE-
The metal fist slammed into the nightstand and shattered the offending alarm
Shit.
Bucky thought as he peered up from his face down position on the pillow. His bleary eyes peered through the strands of his hair to see the mutilated appliance. He was eventually going to learn how to control his reflexes.
"That is the fifth one this week." Bucky glared over his shoulder at Steve. The captain was propped up on the pillows, chest exposed, with the covers stopping just at the top of his hips.
"Don't you think I know that?" He said sarcastically as he let his head fall back to the sheets. "What are you doing anyway?" He flipped his head over to stare up at his lover.
Lover. Savior. Best Friend. Everything.
Said person was currently staring down at his boyfriend in endearment, sketch pad firmly in hand. Now that the Winter Soldier paid attention, Steve's hand had never actually stopped moving as he smiled down at him.
Bucky lifted his head more so that he could just barely make out the elegant strokes that the pencil was making across the page. He was once again the subject of a picture that drew him in a better light than he would ever see himself.
"That's creepy."
"You like it," Steve smirked as he started filling in the background pieces of the image. Looking down at it, there was almost a complete image of Buck laying in bed, bed head fanned out, as he lay face down beside him.
Steve's smirk became a full smile as he sketched in a demolished alarm clock in the picture beside him.
"You are a work of art. Don't judge me for admiring." He closed the sketch book, threw it on his own night stand and got up to start preparing for the day.
Bucky rolled onto his back and watched the captain meticulously get ready as he did most days. With the sheets fallen away from his body there was nothing censoring the rest of the captains body from the appreciative eyes of his roommate.
Talk about a work of art.
Bucky stood from the bed and crossed the room to stand behind Steve as he rummaged through his closet. Pressing his equally nude front into Steve's back, he leaned forward to nestle his face into the side of his neck.
"What do you have planned for today?" Bucky asked Steve as he wrapped his arms around him, running his hands over the solid plains and ridges of his body slowly.
"Its Saturday. The new recruits are getting a break from training for the day." Steve turned in his arms, placing a quick kiss to his lips and leaning back to look him in the eyes. "I thought maybe we could go out for the day."
Bucky pulled back at this suggestion. It had been 6 months since Steve had successfully brought back his memory and convinced the other avengers to let him stay there with him.
Naturally, the team wasn't excited to have a murderer on the team. Or a skilled assassin. Or an ex-hydra agent. Especially not someone who had injured and attempted to end the lives of every member on the team…
And he was all of the above.
Natasha seems to be coming around, but the only reason she seemed to even pretend to be trying was because of her close friendship with Steve. Tony had to be convinced to not put additional security protocols around Bucky, which he was grateful for. Additional surveillance would have only made things worse. He already felt as if he was being watched all the time, the last thing he needed was for something to set off his paranoia and end up back at square one.
But so far so good. After being talked down by Steve and his fiancé Pepper, Tony had actually begun to act fairly normal around him. Of course this just means annoying. Tony was always poking around his arm to figure out the functions, mechanics, future improvements and uses. It irritated him no end when he would be trying to eat breakfast while also trying to swat off the mad scientist and his measuring tape.
Bruce, Clint, Thor, and Sam had all accepted him quite quickly. Sam said that if Steve was okay with him then he trusted his judgement. Clint was hilarious at some points but could be just as annoying as Tony at times.
Thor was extremely friendly, almost to a fault. One of the first setbacks that Bucky had in the Tower was when the Asgardian giant clapped him on the back a bit too hard and Bucky punched him through a wall out of reflex. Thor had laughed it off at the time, but he still felt pretty bad about it.
Bruce was above all Bucky's favorite. He wasn't like the others. Wanda and Vision were a bit off, given that one was experimented on by the same people who held his mind captive for years and the other one was grown in a pod with a rock in his head.
Bruce though…..
Bruce was the only one who knew what it was like. There was a dark side to him that Bucky understood too well. When the other side took over their control was stripped away, their mind was taken over, and they typically ended up hurting the ones that they loved the most.
Of course the mad scientist was the last person that Bucky thought that he would have a connection with. For all intents and purposes he had thought that Bruce would be more Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde anyway.
Instead the man had proven to enjoy the same things that he did. Silence, privacy, time away from all the chaos training and violence.
Bruce had even taught him some things.
Even though he didn't have to, a few weeks after Bucky started living on the base, Bruce had sat down with him one night and offered to teach him some breathing techniques and meditations to help him control his panic attacks.
Though skeptical at first, the lessons that he received were the main reasons that he had begun to get accustomed to living among regular people again. The meditation helped him clear his mind from the years of brainwashing that had cut out his memories.
Nothing cleared his head better than Steve though.
He was the first one to ever break through the Winter soldier to Bucky. He continued to do it too. Over and over, breaking away the hard shells that held him, the real him, underwater.
But even with all of the progress that he had made, Bucky hesitated at the prospect of being around the public.
It was thing to worry about being himself around the rest of the Avengers. But at least they would be able to protect themselves if he was to loose control. Civilians…not so much. And he would never be able to forgive himself, no matter how much Steve did, if he harmed and innocent person by being accidentally provoked.
This worry was clearly seen in his eyes as Steve peered into them.
"You are doing great," he said keeping his hands firmly around his waist and preventing his boyfriend from pulling away any further. "Buck, you are not the monster that they made you become. That is over and you are working on it."
Bucky sighed and bent his head forward, laying it on his shoulder. Steve cupped the back of his head and filtered his hand through his hair in a soothing motion as he continued. "Aside from your continuous assault of alarm clocks," he chuckled, "You haven't hurt anyone. I won't let you hurt anyone and you know it."
Bucky smiled at the promise in Steve's voice. How on earth did he end up with such a wonderful boyfriend. Lord knows that he didn't deserve him for all of the harm that he had done.
Given, he was beginning to stop blaming himself completely. Hydra was controlling him and it wasn't his choice. However, he couldn't help but feel guilty because it was his hands that had taken the lives of those people. Innocent or guilty, there was no justice in remembering the way they had all pleaded for mercy as he closed his metal fist around their throats. Cutting off protest. Cutting off life.
He shuttered momentarily before pulling himself up completely. Leaning in, he captured the captains lips with his own in an effort, trying to once again convey the gratitude that he felt for Steve pulling him away from that life and trying so hard to fix him and get him back to the way that he was.
Steve smiled into the kiss, returning the favor. Sometimes Buck would kiss him randomly with a passion that was completely unprovoked. He always went along with it, figuring that it was just a part of the inner turmoil that his best friend was experiencing. Honestly, he wasn't complaining.
Sliding his tongue past his lips he increased the intensity of the kiss. Dragging his along, around and under that of his partner.
This was one thing that Bucky had come to enjoy. Even after the serum, Steve would still blush like a maiden when they were together. It had always taken Bucky's charm to get him to calm down and continue without being to bashful. Now, Steve had thrown most of his shy demeanor aside. Instead, he now took charge of most things that they did. Making Bucky come out of his shell. Making him respond. Taking charge and making him learn how to breathe again.
Bucky pulled back, face flushed and licked his lips as he smiled at Steve. "Anything you want Stevie." He smiled as he pulled back, going to his own wardrobe to being dressing for the day.
