Bucky POV
"We have received intel that the Hydra 's assassin Torment is going to be in these alleyways here." Steve explains pointing to the indicated alleyways on the map. "Torment is a super soldier with the power to make his victims feel pain. Bucky and I will go in from the right. Tony you take left. Nat and Clint I want you spotting take the shot if you get it. Suit up we leave in fifteen."
Everyone got up to get ready. I stayed watching Steve. He looked really worried about this mission.
"What's wrong?"
"Can't shake this feeling that this mission is going to go horribly wrong."
"We can handle this, we always do. You just gotta get out of your head before you get yourself hurt." I placed my hand on his shoulder to comfort him.
"Thanks, Buck." he patted my hand and we walked out together to get ready.
Steve and I locked eyes and nodded as we walked into the alley. We saw Tony coming towards us, I looked up just as a bomb went off pulling my attention towards Tony. The assassin dressed in all black came down on Steve pulling his shield off him and knocked him out. He threw the shield at me giving me barely enough time to block it with my metal arm. Clint shot him in the shoulder and then Clint and Nat started shooting at him in quick succession. He managed to dodge the rest of the bullets and arrows. I stood in awe. He was better than me and Steve combined.
Tony tackled him down and he then started to scream in pain.
"Guys what is going on?" Peter asked and I could hear the worry in his voice through coms.
"Spider you aren't supposed to be here." I answered and he dropped down beside me. Clint and Nat coming down to stand by me as well.
"Winter Soldier come with me quietly and I won't kill the entire city." the assassin said to me the whole time he admired Tony's suit as he used him as a human shield.
"Like you could do that." Peter said. To prove his point Torment made us feel the pain of all our bones breaking, making us scream. He quickly released us.
"Come back to Hydra and the city will be safe from me." he threw Iron Man down and must have released him because the screams stopped. I felt so angry with this assassin.
"Hydra can't be trusted." I spit out at him, raised my gun quickly aiming near his heart.
"I know." he said and smiled as I pulled the trigger. The bullet hit him exactly where I aimed; he didn't even try to dodge it. I cursed because I didn't want to kill him if we could capture him. I slowly walked over to him and pulled his hood off to see his face better. What I saw shocked me, Torment was a sixteen year old boy, still a kid. His long blond hair was a mess from being in his hood and his heterochromia eyes were unfocused because of his tears but they mesmerized me.
"Why?" I asked. I was so confused, he could have dodged I had seen him do it when Clint and Nat were shooting at him. He laughed which turned into a cough.
"I .. I want to be free. I was captured and experimented on by Hydra when I was seven during World War II. I am seventeen now and just got woken up to bring you back to them. I have been getting some of my memories back. I know from how everything is my family is dead, I just want to be with my family. Promise me I will be buried next to my father." my heart went out for him, the poor kid. He had such a hard life. No one should go through what he went through. I quickly reassured him,
"I promise. Who is your father?"
"I remember that he was a Sergeant and he left me to live with my Uncle. My name is Chaz." At that my world stopped.
"Ky, ucky, Bucky, Bucky. Can you hear me?" I saw Steve standing in front of me. I also just registered that he had his hands cupping my face. His blue eyes looked at me with such concern. I was sitting on a bed. I looked around as best I could with Steve holding my face. I saw that we were on the medical floor of the tower.
"Yeah I hear you Stevie." I finally answered him. He sighed in relief and let go of me. "When did we get here?"
"We have been here for almost three hours, Buck. You went into shock when you found out you shot, Chaz." I remembered then, shooting the assassin, finding out he was my son. My son wanting to die to be with his family and free of Hydra. Oh god I killed my son. I killed Chaz. I was crying and Steve hugged me.
"Buck, it isn't your fault." I shoved him away.
"Not my fault I killed him, Steve! I shot him! I shot my son! I killed my son!"
"No! Chaz is in surgery it is touch and go but until I get a time of death he is still alive. You hear me Buck, he is alive." He hugged me again as I broke down. I don't know how long we stayed like that but Tony came in.
"Capsicle and Manchurian Candidate, you will be happy to know that the surgery was a success and he is going to be monitored closely to make sure that he is alright."
"Can we see him?" I asked.
"Doc says it is fine."
I rushed to the room they had Chaz in. He was so pale and I felt anger when I noticed they had him restrained.
"Why is he chained up?"
"Torment is a dangerous assassin; this is for everyone's protection." Nick Fury said behind me.
I spun around "My son is not going to hurt anyone. He let me shoot him to get free from Hydra."
"We are running a DNA test to confirm that he is truly your son until the results are in. He is Torment, Hydra assassin. Even if it is confirmed he will stay in those restraints until I give the order to release him. He could have taken down the Avengers. He is dangerous."
I lifted my right arm to deck him when Steve grabbed me from behind. Pulling me away from Fury and out of the hospital floor.
"Bucky I hate this as much as you but hitting Fury will not help Chaz. Go cool off, I will get you if there is any change." I nodded my head and walked away.
Chaz POV
Beep. Beep. Beep. 'ugh someone turn the alarm off.' I thought as the incessant beeping was getting louder and more obnoxious by the second. I wanted to stay in the nice, quiet, peaceful darkness and being brought to the painful light was starting to piss me off. If this was heaven I would rather return to hell. I groaned and moved a bit and immediately stopped, hissing in pain as my stitches in my chest pulled. Oh god that hurt. I opened my eyes slowly trying to adjust to the light. I saw a door and white walls and turned my head to the left to see an African American man in combat style clothes.
"Torment, Hydra's second best assassin. I am Nick Fury. I am the former director of Shield before the Winter Soldier assassinated me. Or at least that is what everyone believes." I just blinked at him, I was frustrated why couldn't I be free like when I was a child before Hydra stole me. Why didn't they let me die? He leaned closer to me. "Why did they send you after the Winter Soldier?"
I tried to move and that was when I realized that I was chained to the bed. Even if I could muster the energy to move I wasn't going anywhere. "Answer me, Torment."
That pissed me off Torment was the name that Hydra gave me.
"My name is Chaz." I said with gritted teeth.
"Oh he can speak. So tell me why did they send you? Was it because you love to torment your victims with the most excruciating pain. I read the reports and saw the tapes you revel in the torture. You enjoy their deaths when they couldn't take the pain anymore."
I glared at the man and pulled on my restraints not caring if I hurt myself or not. I wanted to hurt the man but that was Hydra's way and I would never go back to that.
"I am not Torment. My name is Chaz! Chaz Steven Barnes!" I stopped in shock, I remembered my name. I knew my full name. The joy was short-lived when Fury started talking again.
"You mean to tell me that Torment is Chaz Steven Barnes the son of a war hero? Like that would happen. Admit it you just used the name to get access to Shield, so you can get intel for Hydra."
"I barely remember anything about myself. My brain has been fried again and again to keep me as Asset 358682 or Torment as you like to call me. I was a mindless killing machine. I started to get some memories back and I started to fight them. If you were so worried about me you could have let me die! I wanted to die! Why didn't you let me die! I set it up perfectly for you. The Winter Soldier kills a very bad assassin. All you had to do was let me die and you were set!"
A man came in sporting a syringe I felt the panic creeping in. Hydra always injected me with things to see how my body responded. I hated needles with a passion.
"No, no no no." I tried to move away but the restraints stopped me. I struggled but the two men worked together to hold me down. The syringe went in and he pushed the plunger. I could feel myself getting tired and tried to stay awake but the drug was too strong.
Waking up later to see that I was in a glass cell in a black room, I could feel that it was different from a normal cell. I couldn't feel my powers. They were like a current constantly humming through my body and now there was nothing. I guessed they deemed me safer without my powers because I wasn't chained to anything I had free range. I moved slowly worried about the pain to find out that there was no pain. I pulled the blue shirt that they put me in, off and saw that my wounds were healed.
"Do you know where you are?" a female voice said through speakers. I looked around the room and didn't see anyone.
"In the pen." I said in a duh tone.
"Yes, though I meant the location."
"Shield or Avengers' Tower. That doesn't really matter now does it? I won't ever see the light of day again, so why did you save my life?"
"You are important -"
"If you think for one moment that I will submit to being tortured and experimented on, you are cockeyed."
"We would never torture you. We would never experiment on you without your consent. We will also never use you as a killing machine." I chuckled.
"What I was saying earlier was that you are important to friends of mine. I am here to get rid of your trigger words."
I felt anxiety start to grip me. This had to be a trick. They probably just wanted to activate me and use me for their own missions. I could feel the panic crippling me. I fell to my knees hyperventilating. My vision started to blur. I saw someone coming near me. My mind was back at Hydra any time I panicked I was shoved into the chair and wiped.
"Please, not the chair." I wheezed out. They wrapped their arms around me holding me in an embrace. I started to struggle to get away but they held firm. They buried my head in their neck and when I breathed in I smelled the scent of peppermint and vanilla. It reminded me of my dad. He always smelled like that. I felt myself relax in the man's arms and when I had control I pulled away. My eyes widened as my eyes locked with blue that mine had matched before the experiment that changed my left eye brown.
"Dad?"
