When Bob got up in the dark cave, Larry was already doing his morning stretches. "What are you doing?" Bob asked while hearing Larry grunt with exertion.
"Oh great, you're up!" Larry exclaimed, "I'm just keeping the old muscles fresh. I read about this program in Veggie Beat magazine."
"Larry, we're vegetables, we don't have muscles", Bob pointed out with a tone of exasperation.
"Well then, how are we moving?" Larry replied, convinced he had won.
Bob retorted "I don't know, cartoon magic or something."
"Bob, you can't say magic. Parents won't like that." Larry said, changing the script.
"Oh, sorry, I just meant perfectly reasonable animation tools" Bob replied, trying to save face. "Anyways, our impossible physics aside, how are we going to get out of here?"
"I was just thinking we could follow the music" Larry nonchalantly answered.
"What music?" Bob asked. "What are you talking about?"
"I don't know," Larry replied "It just sounds like a choir or something. Can't you hear it?"
"No, I don't know what you're talking about. But what do you mean, follow it?"
Larry tried to find a way to put this. "Well, it sounds like it's coming from the back of the cave, so we cou—"
"Absolutely not!" Bob exclaimed. "I'm not going in any more caves, or chasing weird voices, or least of all following you out of here!"
"Come on, Bob," Larry replied, sounding hurt, "you have to trust me sometimes."
"Well, where has trust got me, huh?" Bob asked, with more venom in his voice than he intended. "This trip was your idea, you didn't even know where we were going, you were being obnoxious in the car."
"I found us this cave," Larry brought up, "and I've found us a way out of here."
"Well, that doesn't make up for your mistakes" Bob kept sounding angrier.
"But Bob, you already forgave me." Larry said.
"I forgave you, but I didn't forget what you did." Bob retorted. Larry looked hurt now, and Bob started to feel remorseful. But Larry's face hardened confidently, and he said "Well Bob, if you're not following the music, I'll go by myself. It has to be better than fumbling around outside."
Bob realized Larry was probably right, but his stubbornness took over. "Fine, then, we'll go our separate ways. When I find the real way out, I'll come back for you."
Larry's resolve cracked a little. "Bob, please, just trust me. I'm not making this up." Bob's resolve cracked too, but he answered "I'm sorry Larry, but I'm making my own decision. I'm not following your voices."
"They're not my voices, they're just… there" Larry replied, but Bob was already gone. Larry considered calling after him, but he decided it wasn't worth it. He turned around and marched further into the cave.
